Learn the English Phrases AS CLEAR AS MUD and AS CLEAR AS DAY - An English Lesson with Subtitles

So we have this really funny phrase in English

where we describe something as being as clear as mud

which means that it's not easy to understand.

Imagine maybe that someone gives you directions

to get somewhere, maybe you are traveling

and you ask how to get to the train station,

and the person gives you a very complex response,

and then says, "Do you understand

"how to get to the train station?"

You could say, "No, I don't, it's as clear as mud."

Because mud is something

that you find at the bottom of a puddle.

When it rains a lot, the ground gets really muddy

and mud is not clear at all.

So if someone explains something to you

and you don't understand it, you can jokingly say

that it's as clear as mud.

This isn't something formal that you would say,

this is very informal,

and I hope that when I teach you my lessons,

that you don't react by thinking that they are clear as mud.

Hopefully you understand them completely.

Hopefully they are as clear as day.

So the other phrase that we use

when we want to describe something

that's easy to understand,

or something that we understand completely,

is we say that it is as clear as day.

So I hope that my lessons, I hope that my English lessons

are as clear as day.

I hope that when you listen to me talk,

when you listen to me speak in English,

that you can understand all the words

and that it is as clear as day,

and if it is as clear as mud,

I hope that you can turn on the subtitles

or slow the video down just a little bit

so that when I speak English it is as clear as day.
