Meaning of IN THE BALLPARK - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So a ballpark is the stadium that you play baseball in.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the sport of baseball, but you play it in a ballpark.

But when we're talking about the cost of things or the price of things, if you were to guess

at the price of something and if your guess was close we would in English say that you

are in the ballpark.

So a good example would be, maybe I'm looking at buying a new car and I'm not sure how much

that new car costs and I say to the salesman, "Is this car about $25,000?"

He might respond and say, "You're in the ballpark."

And what he would mean by that is that my guess, my guess of $25,000, is very close

to the actual park, actual price, sorry I'm having trouble talking today for some reason.

Anyways, in the ballpark means that your guess is close.
