OK, so did Helen say the same thing twice or was it,

It's different.

The first one is, I think, active sentence and the second one is passive form.

The two dialogues had the same meaning, but the grammar was slightly different.

Helen said the robbers stole over £20,000 in the first one,

but in the second one, she said over £20,000 was stolen.

So, what's the difference between active and passive simple tense sentences?

Well, an active sentence has a subject, verb and object, in that order.

Bem, uma frase ativa tem sujeito, verbo e objeto, nessa ordem.

Here's Helen.

Aqui está Helena.

The robbers stole over £20,000.

Os ladrões roubaram mais de £ 20.000.

So, subject — the robbers.

Então, assunto – os ladrões.

Past simple verb — stole.

Verbo passado simples - roubou.

And object — £20,000.

E objeto – £ 20.000.

But, if we want, we can put the object at the beginning of the sentence, like this.

Mas, se quisermos, podemos colocar o objeto no início da frase, assim.

Over £20,000 was stolen.

Mais de £ 20.000 foram roubados.

Now, this is a passive sentence, in a simple tense, and it works like this.

Agora, esta é uma frase passiva, no tempo simples, e funciona assim.

The object goes first.

O objeto vai primeiro.

Then, the verb 'to be' — present or past,

Então, o verbo 'ser' - presente ou passado,

for example, 'is', 'was', 'were', et cetera.

por exemplo, 'é', 'era', 'eram', etc.

After that, you need the past participle of the verb.

Depois disso, você precisa do particípio passado do verbo.

In Helen's sentence, the verb is 'steal', so it's 'steal', 'stole', 'stolen'.

Na frase de Helen, o verbo é ‘roubar’, então é ‘roubar’, ‘roubar’, ‘roubar’.

you could say,

How about, 'lots of people visit the park every year'?

Somebody cleans my office every day.

Very good, you don't need to say 'somebody', do you, because it's obvious.
