This English lesson is all about auxiliary verbs

هذا الدرس عبارة عن الأفعال (لفرعية) المساعدة

or you might recognise them if I say "helping verbs",

أو انك تستطيع التعرف عليها إذا قلت لك أنها "أفعال مساعدة"،

verbs that help the main verb in an English sentence.

أفعال تساعد الفعل الرئيسي في الجملة.

So why are they so important?

إذاََ لماذا هي مهمة جداََ؟

Knowing a little more about auxiliary verbs

المعرفة أكثر عن الأفعال المساعدة

will help you to improve your English grammar

سوف تساعدك في تحسين قواعد الإنجليزية عندك

because the relationship between

لأن العلاقة بين

an auxiliary verb and a main verb

الأفعال المساعدة والأفعال الرئيسية

is very clear, plain and simple in English.

واضحة جداََ، عادية وبسيطة في الإنجليزية

The auxiliary verb, "do",

الفعل المساعد ، "do"،

exists in the simple tenses.

يكون في الأزمنة البسيطه.

The auxiliary verb, "be",

الفعل المساعد ،"be" ،

exists in the continuous tenses

يكون في الأزمنة المستمره

and the auxiliary verb "have"

الفعل المساعد، "have"،

exists in the perfect tenses.

يكون مع الأزمنة التامه.

Now before we do anything else this lesson,

الأن وقبل ان نفعل أي شئ آخر في هذا الدرس،

Now auxiliary verbs are a really interesting part

الأن، الأفعال المساعدة هي جزء شيق فعلاََ

of the English language.

من اللغة الإنجليزية.

There's quite a few things

توجد بعض الاشياء القليلة

that you need to know about them,

التي تحتاج أن تعرفها عنها

about grammar, about pronunciation,

عن القواعد ،عن النطق،

about writing, about speaking.

عن الكتابة، عن التكلم.

So I want to make three things clear to you first.

لذا اريد ان اوضح ثلاثة اشياء لك بدايةَََ

There are three main auxiliary verbs in English:

توجد ثلاثة افعال مساعدة اساسية في الانجليزية

"do", "be" and "have".

"do" ،"be" and "have".

Modal verbs are also considered auxiliary verbs

الافعال الشكلية تعتبر ايضاََ افعال مساعدة

but there are different grammar rules for modal verbs.

لكن هناك قواعد مختلفة للأفعال الشكلية.

In this lesson, we're focusing on

في ها الدرس، سوف نركز علي

"do", "be" and "have".

"do"، "be"و "have".

These auxiliary verbs can also be used

هذة الافعال المساعدة تُستخدم ايضا

as main verbs.

كأفعال رئيسية

She didn't do it!

هي لم تفعل هذا!

He's being annoying.

هو يكون مزعج.

I've had three.

أنا أملك ثلاثة.

Number two.

الثانية.

When you're using English verbs,

متي تستخدم الأفعال في النجليزية،

whether it's a sentence with

اذا ما كانت الجملة بها

only a main verb or there's an auxiliary verb,

فعل رئيسي فقط او فعل مساعد،

they must agree with the subject.

يجب ان يتوافقوا مع الفاعل.

You need to choose the right verb form

يجب ان تختار شكل الفعل الصحيح.

for the subject in your sentence.

للفاعل في الجملة الخاصة بك

He is leaving.

هو يرحل

They are leaving.

هم يرحلون

I am leaving.

انا راحل

The auxiliary verb

الفعل المساعد

must match the main verb.

يجب ان يتوافق مع الفعل الرئيسي.

ثلاثة

Auxiliary verbs in positive sentences

الأفعال المساعدة في الجمل الإثبات

are function words,

هي كلمات وظيفة،

not content words.

لا كلمات محتواه.

This means that they're usually

هذا يعني أنها عادة

unstressed when they're spoken.

غير مضغوط عند التحدث بها

Unstressed words in English are often

الكلمات غيرالمضغوطة في الإنجليزية غالباََ ما تكون

reduced or contracted

منخفضة او مضومه (مضغمة)

when they're spoken out loud in English

عند التحدث بها بصوت عالي

so they can be difficult to hear.

لذا من الصعب سماعها

I'm shopping with my friends.

انا اتسوق مع اصدقائي.

He's taking his time.

هو ياخذ وقتة

I've bought you some fruit.

انا اشتريت لك بعض الفاكهه

Now in negative sentences,

والآن جمل النفي،

auxiliary verbs are usually stressed

الافعال المساعدة عادة ما تكون مضغوطة

but often, they're contracted with "not".

لكن علي الأغلب، تكون مضغمة ب "لم".

I didn't like it.

أنا لم احبه

We haven't been there yet.

لم نصل هناك بعد

Notice that when the sentence is negative,

لاحظ انة عندما تكون الجملة منفية

you can contract the auxiliary verb with "not"

تستطيع ان تضم (تضغم) الفعل المساعد مع "لم"

or you can also contract the auxiliary to the subject.

او تستطيع ان تضم الفعل المساعد للفاعل.

We've not been there yet.

لم نصل هناك بعد.

Learning how to contract auxiliary verbs in English

تعلم كيفية ضم الأفعال المساعدة في الإنجليزية

is instantly going to make you sound

سوف يجعلك فورا تشعر

more relaxed and natural when you speak.

براحة اكبر وان تكون طبيعياََ اثناء التحدث

It's much more natural to say

لهو من الطبيعي أكثر أن تقول

"He's not coming."

هو لن يأتي * لاحظ كيف تم ضم الفاعل "He"مع الفعل "is" "He's"

or "He isn't coming."

أو هو لن يأتي *لاحظ كبف تم دمج الفعل "is" مع النفي "not" "isn't"

than "He is not coming."

عن ان تقول "هو لن يأتي"

Okay! Time to look at some examples,

حسناََ، حان وقت النظر الي بعض الأمثله،

starting with "do".

بدايةَ ب "do".

"Do" is the auxiliary verb

"Do" هو فعل مساعد

used in the simple tenses in English.

يستخدم في الازمنة البسيطة في الانجليزية

"do" and "does" in the present tense

"do" و "does" في الزمن المضارع

and "did" in the past tense.

و"did" في الزمن الماضي

In the future forms, with "will" and "going to",

في المستقبل مع "will" و "going to " ،

we use the infinitive form only,

نستخدم في الاثبات فقط,

"do".

"do"

We eat fish on Fridays.

نحن نأكل الأسماك يوم الجمعة.

They don't want to.

هم لا يريدون.

He doesn't eat meat.

هو لا يأكل اللحم

Did you like it?

هل أحببتها؟

Doesn't Paul know about it?

هل بول لا يعلم بشأنها؟

I'll do it later.

سوف افعلها لاحقاََ

She will do it first.

هي سوف تفعل ذلك أولا.

Now take a moment

الأن خذ لحظة

to think about these examples

لتفكر بشأن هذه الأمثلة

and to think about what I mentioned earlier.

والتفكير بشأن ما ذكرتة سابقا

The subject-verb agreement rules.

قاعدة توافق الفاعل والفعل

How the verb form changes depending on the subject

كيف تغير الفعل اعتماداََ علي الفاعل

and the contractions.

والتقليصات (الدمج)

What you hear so often in spoken English

ما الذي تسمعة أكثر في الانجليزية المنطوقة

and what you see in informal writing

وما تراة في الكتابات الغير رسمية

are these contractions.

هذة التقليصات

Also notice that in the very first example

ولاحظ أنه في أول مثال

we can't see the auxiliary verb "do".

لا نري الفعل المساعد "do"

In the present tense,

في الزمن المضارع

in negative sentences and in questions

سواء في النفي أو في السؤال

then yes - of course - you must use the auxiliary verb

و بالطبع يجب ان تستخدم الفعل المساعد

"do" or "does"

"do" أو "does"

or "don't" or "doesn't".

أو "don't" أو "doesn't".

We don't eat fish on Fridays.

نحن لا تأكل الأسماك يوم الجمعة.

Do you eat fish on Fridays?

هل تأكل السمك يوم الجمعة؟

But in positive sentences

ولكن في جمل الإثبات

in the present tense,

في الزمن المضارع

the auxiliary verb is often omitted.

غالبا ما يتم حذف الفعل المساعد.

It's often left out because it's unnecessary.

غالبا ما تترك لأنه لا ضرورة له.

The sentence, "We eat fish on Fridays"

جملة، "نحن نأكل الأسماك يوم الجمعة"

is exactly the same as the sentence

هو بالضبط نفس جملة

"We do eat fish on Fridays"

"نحن نأكل الأسماك يوم الجمعة"

Often when "do" is included,

في كثير من الأحيان عندما يتم تضمين "do"

it's to add emphasis to the sentence,

انها لإضافة التأكيد على الجملة،

to make something clear.

لتوضيح المعني

Like in this context,

مثل هذا السياق

"You guys don't eat fish."

"يا رفاق ألا تأكلون الأسماك".

"We do eat fish! We eat it every Friday!"

"نحن نأكل السمك! نحن نأكل كل يوم جمعة!"

Okay! Let's move on and talk about "be".

حسنا! دعونا ننتقل ونتحدث عن "be".

"Be" is the auxiliary verb used in the

"be" هو الفعل المساعد المستخدم في

continuous or the progressive tenses.

الأزمنة المستمرة

"Am", "are" or "is"

Am"، "are" أو "is"

in the present continuous tense

في زمن المضارع المستمر

and "was" and "were" in the past continuous tense.

و "was" و "were" في زمن الماضي المستمر.

In the future forms, we only use

في صيغة المستقبل نحن فقط نستخدم

the infinitive "be".

صيغة المصدر "be".

Of course, the main verb in the continuous tenses

بالطبع، فإن الفعل الرئيسي في الازمنة المضارعة

is always using the "ing" form.

يكون دائما متبوع بصيغة " ing"

But the "be" verb, the auxiliary verb,

ولكن الفعل "be"، والفعل المساعد،

will always be there, helping out.

دائما سيكون موجود للمساعده

We are following your brother.

نحن نتبع أخاك.

I am trying to call him now.

أحاول أن أتصل بة الآن.

It isn't raining at the moment.

انها لا تمطر الآن.

Is he bringing his friend?

هل يجلب صديقة ؟

Aren't we taking Sara?

ألن نأخذ سارة؟

He will be presenting at 3:00 p.m.

سيقوم بالعرض فى الساعة الثالثة بعد الظهر.

Will you be going to work today?

هل ستذهب للعمل اليوم؟

Again, stop for a moment

مرة ثانية، توقف للحظة

and have a look at these examples.

وانظر إلي هذة الأمثلة

The subject-verb agreement

توافق الفاعل مع الفعل

so how the verb form is always changing

إذ كيف يتغير شكل الفعل دائما

depending on the subject and the tense

اعتماداََ علي الفاعل والزمن

and the contractions.

والتقليصات (الدمج)

Often in spoken English or informal writing,

في كثير من الأحيان في الإنجليزية المنطوقة أو الكتابة غير الرسمية،

you'll see these contractions.

سوف ترى هذة الإختصارات.

Now the "be" verb is also used as an auxiliary verb

الآن الفعل "be" أيضا كفعل مساعد

in the passive voice

في المبني للمجهول

in sentences like

مثل

"I was given three minutes to finish."

أُعطيت ثلاث دقائق لأنتهي

So it's not always with a verb that's in

لذلك ليست دائما مع الفعل الذي في

the continuous form.

الصيغة المستمرة

Here, the "be" verb

هنا، الفعل "be"

is used with the main verb in the past participle form.

يستخدم مع الفعل الرئيسي في صيغة الماضي.

Lastly, "have".

اخيراََ "have".

"Have" is the auxiliary verb used in the perfect tenses.

"هل" هو الفعل المساعد المستخدم في الأزمنة التامه.

"Have" and "has" in the present perfect tense

"Have" و "has" في زمن المضارع التام

and "had" in the past perfect tense .

و"had" في زمن الماضي التام.

In the future forms, we use the infinitive form only.

في صيغ المستقبل، نحن نستخدم صيغة المصدر غير فقط.

"have"

"have"

with "will" or "going to".

مع "will" او "going to".

Now, of course, the main verb in the perfect tenses

الآن، بالطبع، الفعل الرئيسي في الأزمنة التامه

is in past participle form.

في صيغة الماضي .

So in the present perfect tense,

لذا في المضارع التام،

your main verb is in the past participle form

فعلك الرئيسي يكون في صيغةالماضي( التصريف الثالث للفعل )

and the auxiliary verb "have"

والفعل المساعد "have"

is always going to be there, helping out.

يكون دائماََ موجود للمساعدة

Kate has taken the car.

كايت اخذت السيارة

We have tried it many times.

لقد حاولنا مرات عديدة

It hasn't arrived yet.

انا لم أصل بعد

Have they brought the umbrella?

هل اشتروا الشمسية؟

We have been waiting for hours!

نحن ننتظر لساعات

He will have finished by 3:00 p.m.

هو سوف ينتهي بحلول الساعة 3:00 بعد الظهر

Again, let's check what's happening here.

مرة أخرى، لنرى ماذا يحدث هنا.

The subject-verb agreement.

توافق الفاعل مع الفعل.

So the verb is always changing

إذاََ الفعل دائما يتغير

depending on the subject

تبعاََ للفاعل

and the tense

والزمن

and check out these contractions.

ولنفحص هذة التقليصات (الدمج)

Kate's taken the car.

أخذت كيت السيارة.

We've tried it many times.

لقد حاولنا ذلك عدة مرات.
