and in this video I'm gonna tell you about the  most common English mistake in the universe.

이번 영상에서는

세상에서 가장 흔한 영어 실수에 대해 말씀드리겠습니다.

Now even native speakers make that mistake.

이제는 원어민들도 그런 실수를 합니다.

My mother makes that mistake.

우리 엄마가 그런 실수를 해요.

And to be honest, sometimes I do.

그리고 솔직히 말해서 가끔 그럴 때도 있어요.

Its not so much a speaking mistake. It's a writing mistake.

그다지 말하는 실수는 아닙니다. 글쓰기 실수입니다.

It's actually to write the possessive  adjective 'your' instead of

실제로는 'you are'의 축약형 'you're'

the contraction 'you're' from 'you are'.

대신 소유 형용사 'your'를 쓰는 것입니다 .

This is the most common English mistake

이것은 가장 흔한 영어 실수입니다.

But you need to fix it if you want to speak proper English.

하지만 올바른 영어를 말하고 싶다면 고쳐야 합니다.

Okay, so let's take a look at a  few example sentences together.

좋습니다. 그럼 몇 가지 예문을 함께 살펴보겠습니다.

"Your daughter is pretty."

"당신 딸은 예뻐요."

So 'your daughter'.

그래서 '당신의 딸'입니다.

This is the possessive adjective of 'you'.

'너'라는 소유격 형용사입니다.

Whose daughter?

누구의 딸인가요?

Yours.

당신 것.

Okay?

So the daughter belongs to you.

좋아요?

그러므로 딸은 당신의 것입니다.

That's a possessive adjective.

소유격 형용사입니다.

So the sentence is correct.

그러니 그 문장이 맞습니다.

In the second sentence,

두 번째 문장에서는

"You're a pretty daughter."

"당신은 예쁜 딸이에요."

See the difference?

차이점이 보이나요?

Now this is not a possessive adjective.

이제 이것은 소유격 형용사가 아닙니다.

This is the verb 'to be'.

'되다'라는 동사입니다.

But it's the contraction, so it's "You are a pretty daughter."

그런데 축약형이니까 "너 참 예쁜 딸이구나" 입니다.

and the contraction is "You're a pretty daughter."

그리고 축약형은 "당신은 예쁜 딸이에요."입니다.

The problem here is that 'you're' - possessive adjectives and

여기서 문제는 'you're'(소유 형용사)와

'you're' - contraction of the verb 'to be'

'you're'(to be 동사의 축소형)가

have the exact same sound in  many English-speaking regions.

많은 영어권 지역에서 똑같은 소리를 낸다는 것입니다.

Okay it's very similar.

좋아, 아주 비슷해.

So when we speak, it's the same.

그래서 우리가 말할 때도 마찬가지입니다.

People don't hear the difference.

사람들은 차이점을 듣지 못합니다.

So the very important thing  is to write it properly.

그래서 가장 중요한 것은 올바르게 쓰는 것입니다.

And there are so many spelling mistakes.

그리고 맞춤법 오류가 너무 많아요.

If we look at the third sentence:

세 번째 문장을 보면

"Your a nice person."

"당신은 좋은 사람이에요."

What do you think?

어떻게 생각하나요?

Is the sentence right or wrong?

그 문장이 옳은가, 그른가?

Well it's wrong.

글쎄, 그건 틀렸어.

"Your a nice person."

"당신은 좋은 사람이에요."

"You are a nice person."

"넌 좋은 사람이야."

So it's the verb 'to be'.

그래서 '되다'라는 동사가 됩니다.

Okay, so it's not 'your'.

좋아요, 그럼 '당신'이 아니군요.

This is the possessive adjective

이것은 소유격 형용사

and it should be "you're"- you apostrophe 're'.

이며 "you're"가 되어야 합니다. - you 아포스트로피 're'입니다.

Okay?

좋아요?

I hope you understand the difference between the

소유 형용사 'your'와 동사 'to be'가 축약되어 'you're'

possessive adjective 'your' and the verb 'to be' contracted so "you're".

의 차이점을 이해하시기 바랍니다 .

Okay so spelling is key here.

좋습니다. 여기서는 철자가 중요합니다.

And when you speak English, people don't hear the difference.

그리고 영어로 말할 때 사람들은 그 차이를 듣지 못합니다.

so it's fine

그러니 괜찮지

but it's important to know how to write it and in fact if you look at Facebook

만 어떻게 쓰는지 아는 것이 중요하고 사실 페이스북 페이지나 트위터 계정을 보면

pages or Twitter accounts, even from native speakers,

원어민이라도

you will see this mistake.

이런 실수를 볼 수 있습니다.

Don't hesitate to correct native speakers. Okay?

주저하지 말고 원어민을 교정하세요. 좋아요?

Everybody should stop making that huge mistake.

모두가 그 큰 실수를 멈춰야 합니다.
