well to start we want you to tell us a little  about your story please how long have you been  

먼저 당신 의 이야기에 대해 조금 말씀해 주셨으면 합니다. 교사로 일한 지 얼마나 되셨나요?

a teacher well I have been teaching English  for about 17 years it was long time ago

저는 영어를 가르친 지 17년 정도 됐습니다.

wow you have a lot of experience  than you have had a lot of students

와우 당신은 많은 학생보다 경험이 많습니다.

yeah I don't remember the number but  I've had thousands of students I'm sure

네, 숫자는 기억나지 않지만 수천 명의 학생이 있었을 거라 확신합니다.

then can you tell me why do these students  take that decision of studying English

그러면 이 학생들이 왜 영어 공부를 결정하는지 말해줄 수 있나요?

why do they decide to study English there  are many reasons why people study English

왜 영어 공부를 결정합니까? 사람들이 영어를 공부하는 데는 여러 가지 이유가 있습니다.

some people need to travel to other country and  they need English to communicate with other people

어떤 사람들은 다른 나라로 여행해야 하고 다른 사람들과 의사소통하기 위해 영어가 필요합니다.

others only want to study English because they  like the language but the most common reason

다른 사람들은 언어를 좋아하기 때문에 영어를 공부하고 싶어 하지만 가장 일반적인 이유는 생활 방식을

it's because they need to speak English to improve  their lifestyle they want to earn more money

개선하기 위해 영어로 말해야 하기 때문입니다. 더 많은 돈을 벌고 싶어합니다.

and I think that's great because that was also  my case I studied English to become a teacher  

그게 좋은 것 같아요. 저도 그랬거든요. 선생님이 되기 위해 영어를 공부했어요.

I love being a teacher but before I became a  teacher I used to work as a construction worker

선생님이 되는 걸 좋아하지만, 선생님이 되기 전에는 건설 노동자로 일했는데

it was very tiring and also stressful so I decided  to study English to become an English teacher

너무 힘들고 스트레스도 많아서 영어 공부를 하기로 했어요. 영어 교사가 되었는데

and now I don't earn a lot of money but I can work  in different institutes and universities and I  

지금은 돈을 많이 벌지는 못하지만 다양한 기관과 대학에서 일할 수 있고 조국뿐만 아니라 전 세계의

love my job because I can help a lot of people  not only for my country but around the world  

많은 사람들에게 도움을 줄 수 있기 때문에 내 일을 사랑합니다.

that's great and you're right learn a new language  is a great way to get better opportunities  

맞습니다. 새로운 언어를 배우는 것은 더 나은 기회를 얻을 수 있는 좋은 방법입니다.

and tell me teacher what is the most difficult  thing about learning this beautiful language

그리고 선생님께 이 아름다운 언어를 배우는 데 가장 어려운 점이 무엇인지 말씀해 주세요.

well it depends on the student many  of them have problems with listening

학생에 따라 다릅니다. 많은 학생들 이 듣기에 문제가 있고

they can't understand what an advanced  English students speak or a native speaker

무엇을 이해하지 못합니까? 고급 영어 학생이 말하거나 원어민이 되거나

or when they watch a movie or listen to a  song they don't understand what they're saying

영화를 보거나 노래를 들을 때 자신이 말하는 내용을 이해하지 못하는 경우

some students have problems  with reading and writing  

일부 학생은 읽기 및

I know many students who hate writing and reading

쓰기에 문제가 있습니다. 쓰기와 읽기를 싫어하는 학생이 많은 것을 알고 있지만

but I think the most difficult part of learning  English is to be able to speak English very well  

제 생각에는 영어 학습에서 가장 어려운 부분은 영어를 아주 잘 할 수 있다는 것입니다.

I knew you were gonna say that and that's logical  since it's a language and we need to speak it

그렇게 말할 줄 알았고 그건 논리적입니다. 언어이기 때문에 우리는 그것을 말해야 하기 때문에

yes that's true many students have troubles  when they try to speak English fluently  

그렇습니다. 많은 학생들이 영어를 유창하게 말하려고 할 때 어려움을 겪는 것이 사실입니다.

and why do you think that is I mean is there a  special reason why they can't speak in English

그리고 그게 왜라고 생각하시나요? 그들이 영어를 잘 못하는 특별한 이유가 있는 걸까요? 저는

well I'm not a scientist but from my years of  experience teaching English I can say that yes  

과학자는 아니지만 수년간 영어를 가르친 경험으로 볼 때 그렇다고 말할 수 있습니다.

I think many students bail at learning or speaking  English because they feel afraid to speak this  

많은 학생들이 학습을 포기하거나 영어로 말하기  이 언어를 말하는 것이 두렵기 때문에

language they are afraid to speak English but  they do want to speak this language why is that  

영어로 말하기가 두렵지만  이 언어를 말하고 싶어하는 이유는

well they are not afraid to speak English  but to make mistakes at the moment they do it

영어로 말하는 것을 두려워하지 않지만 하는 순간 실수를 할까봐 아

oh I understand but that's understandable  speaking a new language is not easy

이해합니다. 하지만 그건 이해할 만합니다. 새로운 언어로 말하는 것은 쉽지 않습니다.

exactly it is a process you can't  become an expert in just weeks

단 몇 주 만에 전문가가 될 수 없는 과정입니다.

what I mean is if you really want to improve  your speaking skills the only way is to practice

즉, 말하기 능력을 정말로 향상시키고 싶다면 유일한 방법은 연습하는 것입니다.

because it's an active skill and  you need to practice it to improve  

왜냐하면 말하기 능력은 적극적인 기술이고 필요하기 때문입니다. 향상을 위해 연습하려면

and you need to make mistakes

실수를 해야 하고

you need to make mistakes but I can't  recommend students to make mistakes

실수를 해야 하지만 학생들에게 실수를 잘하도록 권할 수는 없습니다.

well that's part of the process I made a lot  of mistakes when I was learning this language

그게 과정의 일부입니다. 제가 이 언어를 배울 때 많은 실수를 저질렀을

let me tell you something when I started learning  English in an Institute we were like 20 students  

때 한 말씀 드리겠습니다. 저는 20명 정도의 학생이 있는 학원에서 영어를 배우기 시작했습니다. 그 중

and do you know how many of them got to  speak English fluently exactly just me  

몇 명이나 정확히 저만 영어를 유창하게 말할 수 있었는지 아시나요?

with this I do not intend to brag  about my achievements oh of course not

이것으로 내 성취를 자랑할 생각은 없습니다. 아 물론 아닙니다.

but I think you need to know the reason why I  was the only student who became fluent at English

하지만 알아야 할 것 같습니다 내가 영어를 유창하게 한 유일한 학생이었던 이유는

it wasn't by luck I wish it was  because of two important reasons

운이 좋았던 것이 아니었습니다. 두 가지 중요한 이유 때문이었습니다.

two important reasons well I think we  everyone want to know what those reasons are  

두 가지 중요한 이유가 있습니다. 우리 모두는 그 이유가 무엇인지 알고 싶어 한다고 생각합니다.

sure the first important reason was  the consistency that's really important

물론 첫 번째 중요한 이유는

during the time I was studying English  many of my partners quit seriously and also  

내가 영어를 공부하는 동안 정말 중요한 일관성 많은 파트너가 심각하게 그만뒀고 또한

when I started studying or practicing  English with friends they got bored very fast  

내가 영어를 공부하거나 연습하기 시작했을 때 친구들과 함께 영어를 공부하거나 연습하기 시작했을 때 그들은 매우 빨리

they got frustrated and gave up learning English  while I was still in the pad to speak in English

지루해했습니다.  내가 여전히 패드에 앉아 있는 동안 그들은 좌절하고 영어 학습을 포기했습니다. 영어로

what I really mean is that I was the only one  who never gave up that's why I could make it  

말하자면, 포기하지 않은 유일한 사람이 나였기 때문에 해낼 수 있었다는 것입니다.

the other important thing was that despite I was  afraid to speak in English because I was learning  

또 다른 중요한 점은 배우는 중이었기 때문에 영어로 말하는 것이 두려웠음에도 불구하고 어쨌든

I dared to do it anyway and I don't want  you to misunderstand me please I was afraid  

감히 해냈고 포기했다는 것입니다. 오해하지 않았으면 좋겠어.

I was afraid to make mistakes all the time  but I did it anyway I just spoke in English  

항상 실수할까봐 두려웠지만 그래도 했어. 그냥 영어로 말했어.

every time I was scared I remembered my father's  words he taught me how to drive my first car  

겁이 날 때마다 아버지께서 내 첫 차 운전을 가르쳐 주셨던 말이 생각났어.

he used to tell me you just do it  don't mind that others make fun of you

그냥 하면 된다고 말하곤 했죠. 다른 사람들이 당신을 놀리

after all the one who will benefit in the end  will be you because you will improve your English

더라도 결국엔 이익을 얻을 사람은 당신이 될 테니 신경 쓰지 마세요. 왜냐하면 당신은 영어 실력을 향상시킬 것이기 때문이고,

and yeah I spoke a lot and made  a lot of mistakes while speaking  

그래 나는 그동안 많은 말을 했고 많은 실수를 저질렀습니다. 말하기

but that is crucial to learn something new  

하지만 새로운 것을 배우는 것은 매우 중요합니다

that is what stops many people from learning  something new and this includes English of course

그것이 많은 사람들이  새로운 것을 배우지 못하게 하는 것입니다. 여기에는 물론 영어도 포함되므로

so my recommendation is it doesn't matter if  you make a lot of mistakes that's how you learn

제가 추천하는 것은 실수를 많이 해도 문제가 되지 않는다는 것입니다.

in fact I think that's the only way to learn  English by making mistakes and learning from them
