Where do I put the adverb?

A lot is an expression of quantity, it's an adverb of quantity.

It goes at the end of the sentence.

We do not say, "We liked a lot the movie."

On ne dit pas : "On a beaucoup aimé le film".

Right?

We should say, "We liked the movie a lot."

He is leaving for Japan today.

Today is an adverb of time, it belongs at the end of the sentence.

We do not say, "He is leaving today for Japan."

That might be used sometimes, but it is preferable to use all of these at the end of the sentence.
