British Bitesize Lesson #3: HAND

hello today is the third part of my bite

sized lessons as my gift to you this

Christmas so today we're looking at the

word hand now there's lots of different

uses for the word hand the most obvious

use is this thing only end of my arm my

hand or my hands

you can also give someone a hand which

means that you help them out so if my

dad is building a shed and I go and help

him build the shed i am giving my dad a

hand to build the shed or might say hey

Dad can you give me a hand with this

and while we're working on the shed

I might ask him to hand me a hammer

this means to pick something up and pass

it to someone could you hand me that

hammer please

of course when someone's finish the

performance we give them a big hand so

to give someone a big hand or to give

them a hand if someone staged means to

give them a clap or a round of applause

sometimes we'll use the phrase it's out

of my hands and this means it's no

longer my problem or responsibility so

if I'm dealing with a leak in the roof

and my housemate says to me what's

happening is the roof of coming over to

fix it i'll say it's out of my hands

because I'm no longer responsible my

other housemates is dealing with the

problem it's out of my hands

nothing I can do about it now so hand

give a big hand a helping hand hand me

something and it's out of my hands
