So what kind of an accent am I gonna teach you? A lot of people in the United States

have different accents – a Southern accent, a New Your accent,

a California accent, etc But today we gonna focus

on the most standard general American accent

that you can hear in movies, TV shows,  news reports and stuff like that

Of course if you want to sound like an American, you should not only have the right pronunciation,

but also use American vocabulary  instead of British vocabulary and

Ok my first tip to improve  your American accent and sound  

Ok, minha primeira dica para melhorar seu sotaque americano e soar

exactly like a native is 1. Use Common Reductions 

exatamente como um nativo é 1. Use reduções comuns  Os

Native speakers actually reduce everything and – n 

falantes nativos realmente reduzem tudo e – n

Instead of saying - day and night You can say day n night 

Em vez de dizer - dia e noite Você pode dizer dia e noite

for becomes fr Instead of saying - thanks for your help

para se tornar fr Em vez de dizer - obrigado pela sua ajuda

for – fer thanks fr your help 

para - fer obrigado pela sua ajuda

or becomes r or = r 

ou se torna r ou = r

coffee or tea coffee r tea

Instead of saying coffee or tea, say coffee r tea Also common reductions native speakers use

all the time lemme wanna gimme gonna

Let me tell you something I wanna do it right now

Also a useful tip that I use to sound like a native speaker is

2. Exaggerating the sound R Some people have problems making the R sound,

so they make a W sound instead. If you wanna speak English correctly

and improve your accent,  please don’t make that mistake.

3. Change your T sound into D sound Let’s listen to native speakers

it’s sounds like a British version The sound T changes into D sound

when they are between two vowels exciting

Well done! The sound T becomes D

and it may happen between words  in the sentence, for example: 

e pode acontecer entre as palavras da frase, por exemplo:

I’m not always perfect. We don’t say I’m not always perfect 

Nem sempre sou perfeito. Nós não dizemos que eu não sou sempre perfeito

We say: Im noD always perfect Do you feel the difference? 

Nós dizemos: Eu não sou sempre perfeito Você sente a diferença?

Change your Ts into Ds and it’s  gonna make you sound more American

Mude seus Ts para Ds e isso fará com que você soe mais americano

Another trick that you can use is 4. Practice Glottal T 

Outro truque que você pode usar é 4. Pratique o T Glottal

When T goes at the end or  at the middle of the word 

Quando o T vai no final ou no meio da palavra

You don’t really pronounce the sound T but it looks like the air stops  

Você realmente não pronuncia o som T, mas parece como o ar para   em

somewhere in the throat and it comes out of your mouth

tn You can feel the air stops right here

Glottal T is an interesting  thing that native speakers do

but if you say written this is NOT incorrect you’re not gonna have anyone misunderstand you

if you pronounce the sound T. But if you really wanna sound

like an American, practice this tip The same thing with the words:

To make sure that you’re doing it right try to play around with the phrase A-oh

What we say when we mess up something A-oh The sound A …is a glottal stop 

que dizemos quando estragamos algo A-oh O som A ... é um parada glotal

and you can feel it inside your throat A-oh

And you can practice it adding the sound

you will definitely speak like a native American The next tip is crucial if you wanna

sound natural in English 5. Open your mouth wide

as wide as you can This tip is kind of hilarious,

but if you watch American and Canadian speakers

you’ll see they open their mouth this is just the way they speak

and there’re some sounds and diphthongs that should be pronounced with

6. The next tip to improve your American accent is DROP the T

When you have N and T in a word, the T disappears wanted wannid

the best practice as I said before – shadowing. When I watch an American TV show or a movie

I just pause it and try to repeat  the sentences in the same way, 

apenas pauso e tento repetir as frases da mesma forma,

with the same intonation, and it’s an extremely helpful  

com a mesma entonação, e é uma coisa extremamente útil
