Of course if you want to sound like an American, you should not only have the right pronunciation,

but also use American vocabulary  instead of British vocabulary and

Ok my first tip to improve  your American accent and sound  

Ok, mon premier conseil pour améliorer votre accent et sonorité américains

exactly like a native is 1. Use Common Reductions 

exactement comme un natif est 1. Utilisez des réductions communes

Native speakers actually reduce everything and – n 

Les locuteurs natifs réduisent en fait tout et - n

Instead of saying - day and night You can say day n night 

Au lieu de dire - jour et nuit Vous pouvez dire jour et nuit

for becomes fr Instead of saying - thanks for your help

pour devient fr Au lieu de dire - merci pour votre aide

for – fer thanks fr your help 

pour - fer merci pour votre aide

or becomes r or = r 

ou devient r ou = r

coffee or tea coffee r tea 

café ou thé café r thé

Instead of saying coffee or tea, say coffee r tea Also common reductions native speakers use  

Au lieu de dire café ou thé, dites café r thé Aussi des réductions courantes que les locuteurs natifs utilisent

all the time lemme wanna gimme gonna 

tout le temps laisse moi veux donner je vais

Let me tell you something I wanna do it right now

Give me some water, please I’m gonna eat a sandwich

Also a useful tip that I use to sound like a native speaker is

2. Exaggerating the sound R Some people have problems making the R sound,

so they make a W sound instead. If you wanna speak English correctly

and improve your accent,  please don’t make that mistake.

That sound is very strong when it goes before the consonant

3. Change your T sound into D sound Let’s listen to native speakers

how they pronounce the phrase exciting opportunity It’s NOT exciTing OpporTuniTy,

it’s sounds like a British version The sound T changes into D sound 

cela ressemble à une version britannique Le son T se transforme en son D

when they are between two vowels exciting

Well done! The sound T becomes D 

Bien joué ! Le son T devient D

and it may happen between words  in the sentence, for example: 

et cela peut se produire entre les mots de la phrase, par exemple :

I’m not always perfect. We don’t say I’m not always perfect 

Je ne suis pas toujours parfait. Nous ne disons pas que je ne suis pas toujours parfait

We say: Im noD always perfect Do you feel the difference? 

Nous disons : je ne suis pas toujours parfait Vous sentez-vous la différence ?

Change your Ts into Ds and it’s  gonna make you sound more American

Changez vos Ts en Ds et ça va vous faire sonner plus américain

Another trick that you can use is 4. Practice Glottal T 

Une autre astuce que vous pouvez utiliser est 4. Pratiquez le T glottal

When T goes at the end or  at the middle of the word 

Quand T va à la fin ou au milieu du mot

You don’t really pronounce the sound T but it looks like the air stops  

Vous ne prononcez pas vraiment le son T mais il a l'air comme l'air s'arrête

somewhere in the throat and it comes out of your mouth

tn You can feel the air stops right here

Glottal T is an interesting  thing that native speakers do

but if you say written this is NOT incorrect you’re not gonna have anyone misunderstand you 

mais si vous dites qu'écrit ce n'est PAS incorrect, personne ne vous comprendra mal

if you pronounce the sound T. But if you really wanna sound  

si vous prononcez le son T. Mais si vous voulez vraiment sonner

like an American, practice this tip The same thing with the words:

To make sure that you’re doing it right try to play around with the phrase A-oh

What we say when we mess up something A-oh The sound A …is a glottal stop

and you can feel it inside your throat A-oh

And you can practice it adding the sound

as wide as you can This tip is kind of hilarious,

6. The next tip to improve your American accent is DROP the T

When you have N and T in a word, the T disappears wanted wannid

We all have accents and that’s totally normal but

I don’t really like my Russian  accent and I hear it when I speak

the best practice as I said before – shadowing. When I watch an American TV show or a movie 

la meilleure pratique comme je l'ai déjà dit - l'observation. Lorsque je regarde une émission de télévision américaine ou un film,

I just pause it and try to repeat  the sentences in the same way, 

je fais une pause et j'essaie de répéter les phrases de la même manière,

with the same intonation, and it’s an extremely helpful  

avec la même intonation, et c'est extrêmement utile
