Of course if you want to sound like an American, you should not only have the right pronunciation,

but also use American vocabulary  instead of British vocabulary and

Ok my first tip to improve  your American accent and sound  

Ok, il mio primo consiglio per migliorare il tuo accento e suono americano

exactly like a native is 1. Use Common Reductions 

esattamente come un madrelingua è 1. Usa le riduzioni comuni I

Native speakers actually reduce everything and – n 

madrelingua in realtà riducono tutto e - n

Instead of saying - day and night You can say day n night 

Invece di dire - giorno e notte Puoi dire giorno n notte

for becomes fr Instead of saying - thanks for your help

per diventa fr Invece di dire - grazie per il tuo aiuto

for – fer thanks fr your help 

per – ringrazia per il tuo aiuto

or becomes r or = r 

o diventa r o = r

coffee or tea coffee r tea 

caffè o tè caffè r tè

Instead of saying coffee or tea, say coffee r tea Also common reductions native speakers use  

Invece di dire caffè o tè, dì caffè r tè Anche le riduzioni comuni che i madrelingua usano

all the time lemme wanna gimme gonna

Let me tell you something I wanna do it right now

Also a useful tip that I use to sound like a native speaker is

2. Exaggerating the sound R Some people have problems making the R sound, 

so they make a W sound instead. If you wanna speak English correctly

and improve your accent,  please don’t make that mistake.

{ r } This sound is like a grawling dog rrr

That sound is very strong when it goes before the consonant

And it’s also pronounced  at the end of the word like

3. Change your T sound into D sound Let’s listen to native speakers

how they pronounce the phrase exciting opportunity It’s NOT exciTing OpporTuniTy,

it’s sounds like a British version The sound T changes into D sound

when they are between two vowels exciting

bottle Now try these words with me

Well done! The sound T becomes D

and it may happen between words  in the sentence, for example: 

e può capitare tra le parole della frase, ad esempio:

I’m not always perfect. We don’t say I’m not always perfect 

Non sono sempre perfetto. Non diciamo che non sono sempre perfetto

We say: Im noD always perfect Do you feel the difference? 

Diciamo: non sono sempre perfetto Senti la differenza?

Change your Ts into Ds and it’s  gonna make you sound more American

Cambia la tua T in RE e ti farà sembrare più americano

Another trick that you can use is 4. Practice Glottal T 

Un altro trucco che puoi usare è 4. Esercitati con la T glottale

When T goes at the end or  at the middle of the word 

Quando la T va alla fine o al centro della parola

You don’t really pronounce the sound T but it looks like the air stops  

Non pronunci davvero il suono T ma sembra come se l'aria si ferma

somewhere in the throat and it comes out of your mouth 

da qualche parte nella gola e ti esce dalla bocca

Glottal T is an interesting  thing that native speakers do

but if you say written this is NOT incorrect you’re not gonna have anyone misunderstand you

if you pronounce the sound T. But if you really wanna sound

like an American, practice this tip The same thing with the words:

To make sure that you’re doing it right try to play around with the phrase A-oh

What we say when we mess up something A-oh The sound A …is a glottal stop

and you can feel it inside your throat A-oh

6. The next tip to improve your American accent is DROP the T

the best practice as I said before – shadowing. When I watch an American TV show or a movie 

la migliore pratica come ho detto prima: lo shadowing. Quando guardo un programma televisivo americano o un film lo metto

I just pause it and try to repeat  the sentences in the same way, 

semplicemente in pausa e provo a ripetere le frasi nello stesso modo,

with the same intonation, and it’s an extremely helpful  

con la stessa intonazione, ed è estremamente utile
