see if we can have some fun today I want to talk  about uncertainty because this is a huge problem  

for pretty much everybody I help but I'll also  be answering questions if anybody has any I'll  

take a little bit of time for people to join  me but I hope everybody especially if you're  

watching this later that you enjoy watching  this video so I got an interesting question  

from a learner we get questions all the time from  premium members who are enjoying our programs and  

this one was asking about the difference between  so two words is an interesting question nice to  

see you there our turbo thanks for for your time  as well thanks for joining me I'm always happy  

especially because I don't teach in the classroom  anymore right now I get to help people all over  

the world and this is a good way for me to still  connect and enjoy working with people like this

uh uh asked me what's the difference if there's  any difference uh between let's see uh intuition

so intuition oh no let me make sure I got  this let me put this lower down so intuition

and instinct

so what's the difference between intuition  and Instinct now this lesson is not really  

about teaching these specific words it's  more about how you should learn and this  

is why I'm always teaching people about how  to become fluent so this uh video began with  

someone feeling uncertain so they're always  usually you begin with some kind of doubt

pardon me is there's always a fire truck  or something whenever we do these lives  

that's the cost of enjoying this beautiful space  where I can speak with you guys but anyway so most  

Learners they have difficulty speaking because  they feel doubt about something they are uncertain  

about maybe their pronunciation or grammar point  or vocabulary am I using the right word or will  

someone make fun of me or they'll laugh at my  pronunciation or something like that so people  

experience doubt about learning so this doubt  was about the difference between intuition and  

Instinct and now what excuse me people would often  do is just tell you a definition so intuition  

means this an instinct means that they're trying  to give you a definition for something when this  

is really not how natives learn the language and  the important thing about learning the language  

the native way is that it removes the uncertainty  from speech so it removes the uncertainty from  

your pronunciation or your grammar or your  vocabulary so the better way to think about  

about this I think we actually just gave a very  quick answer in uh in the comment system uh when  

we were responding to this but I wanted to give  something a bit more thorough so I go back I can't  

respond to everybody we get thousands of uh you  know comments and and people asking questions and  

stuff so I can't answer everybody personally but  when we do get answer uh get answers for questions  

I like to go back and see how everybody  is doing making sure everybody is learning  

and improving so intuition and instinct so the  better way to think about this is when you get  

naturally varied review and this just means  you're getting lots of examples of something  

the same way that natives are getting this so when  natives hear the word Intuition or hear the word  

Instinct the kinds of examples they're getting are  like this so intuition I had a feeling yesterday  

I could tell my my intuition was speaking to me  intuition was speaking to me that I should take a  

job in a different country I should take a job in  a different country so my intuition was speaking  

to me I could just feel something my intuition  was speaking to me people will also talk about  

a woman's intuition a woman's intuition a woman's  intuition is saying men don't really have a good  

sense for things women just have a good sense for  how things should be done so they'll just say well  

I don't know how I did something it's my woman's  intuition so if I'm talking with my wife or you  

know my sister or somebody they will say well  it's just it's a woman's intuition women kind  

of know how to do things without thinking about  it a woman's intuition or I might think about  

well my I don't I don't have a logical reason I  don't have a good reason why I should uh I should  

quit my job but I just feel like I should it's  like it's it's coming from my intuition I have  

a sense for having to do something all right so  these are the kinds of examples you would get  

when natives are talking about intuition but what  about Instinct so Instinct this is where we're  

talking about like animals or something that you  do just automatically so the fight or flight so  

the to like want to fight or to run away Instinct  of an animal there's a surprise in the Instinct  

that you have is to move right at that moment to  do something you do it instinctively instinctively  

so when you hear the different examples about  these so I'm talking about Instinct uh like I  

just like to I like to sell kind of on Instinct I  I've developed a an ability to do this over many  

years or I like to to fish on Instinct you know I  just kind of like do something I I notice the fish  

and I just grab it like that that's how I'm able  to do so so the difference is when you're learning  

these by getting different examples of them is  going to be much more powerful and memorable for  

you because your brain is trying to figure out  what that word means all right so if I just say  

well intuition is like a sense and uh instinct  is like a sense also then you're still you don't  

really know when natives use these and remember  natives are always thinking about vocabulary as a  

situational thing so they're connecting situations  with vocabulary rather than connecting definitions  

with vocabulary and the reason we do that is  because it depends on the situation almost  

every word has maybe multiple meanings where  the meaning could change in different situations  

like I gave the example to my daughter a while  ago so she wrote the word bark on a piece of paper  

bark and I said what does bark mean and she said  oh you know like a dog bark bark like the sound a  

dog makes and I said oh that's correct but it also  means uh like the bark is the outside of a tree  

kind of the you can think about it as like the  skin the bark on the outside of a tree so when  

we think about a word like this this is why you go  to a d like a dictionary and you get definitions  

of words and it will just say you know it'll say  here's this meaning and that meaning and that  

meaning and it's not very helpful for you really  understanding what the words mean it's only from  

getting the examples the varied examples different  examples again I call this naturally varied review  

but it's only by getting these different examples  that you really understand how these words work  

and this takes a little bit of time and it  takes uh usually someone either there to to  

teach you things like this or you're able to go  out and just find lots of examples on your own  

but the best thing to do when you are trying to  learn vocabulary and maybe you don't remember  

something or you can't understand it quite well  then look for many examples of this don't go to  

the dictionary and look for a definition you want  to look for lots of different examples like if  

I go just type in the word intuition in Google  then it will give me a definition first I want  

to scroll down below that and I want to look  at different examples of when people are using  

that so they're talking about intuition and the  key you kind of understand the key over time the  

key is intuition is really talking about a sense  that you have but it's it's maybe something that  

develops and you have time to act on that so you  get a sense for something like right now I just I  

feel weird about something I don't know why or  I feel good about someone or something I just  

have it it's my in my intuition all right I feel  something about that but when I do something on  

instinct it's right now all right so generally  this is the difference between these two words  

but rather than give you a definition it's much  better for you if you can understand huh just from  

the different examples okay so the goal again  is to remove doubt to remove doubt thank you

does this make sense so far I want to  make sure people are are following this  

and understanding what I'm saying  I know the the typical idea when  

people are learning is just give me more  vocabulary but most people again if you  

continue to get more vocabulary but  you don't really understand it then  

you won't feel confident about using it in  conversations okay so if I have two people

let's see one person over here they know a  lot of words so this is like they have like  

a thousand word vocabulary so they know  a lot of words as a person one person two  

they know fewer words okay so maybe they know  100 words but this person actually speaks better

than this person so if we're going to talk about  their ability to speak the actual speaking ability  

is like up here in this person's speaking ability  is like over here now why does that happen this  

happens even if this person knows more words  if this person feels more confident about  

using their vocabulary they will speak better  all right now you see this all the time really  

this is a an English learner often

and this is a native chat

okay so you will have excuse me an English learner  who knows a lot of vocabulary but still has doubt  

and it's the doubt that really stops you from  speaking it's not how many words you know okay  

I really want to make this point clear because  everybody is always interested in learning more  

words but if you can't fluently use the words  you already know why are you trying to learn more  

okay it's like for me as I'm trying  to learn Japanese when I was first  

learning Japanese I was like this it's like  okay I'm gonna study and I'm gonna use my  

flash cards and try to remember as many  words as I can but I still couldn't speak  

it was only when I started learning like this  that I really felt certain about my vocabulary  

and that's where the confidence comes from  the confidence to speak comes from certainty  

all right so remember if you're getting  just a definition so definition by itself

definition I'm going to write  these I'll write this more clearly

d-e-f-i-n-i-t-i-o-n definition definition  all right now here's another example of  

that naturally varied review in a slightly  different way for pronunciation purposes  

you start to notice patterns like this  like into where should intuition definition

this is how children are actually developing their  reading ability much faster with Frederick so this  

is the app we built rather than me telling them  words and what they mean or word pieces and what  

they mean all right but this is very important  you're essentially building a uh like a web  

or a network and all these different Pieces  come together to build your fluency it's not  

about just learning more words or getting  definitions or translations for those words  

all right now stop uh because I wanted to make  this just a very quick lesson but I want to make  

sure I'm answering any questions people might  have so I'll look back through the chat if you  

do have questions I'm here to help remember the  kinds of things that I want to help you with are  

are really building fluency and understanding  the particular bottlenecks I'll give an example  

of this this is a really good word another  great vocabulary word for you so bottleneck

and rather than just seeing the word it's  important to understand you know you have a bottle  

like if we're going to have a bottle right here

so this is my kind of Badly Drawn bottle  but the bottle this is the neck of the  

bottle just like your your neck like this so  the neck of the bottle all the flow is going  

this way but now the flow gets constricted  over here and so this is where a problem  

usually happens and so usually what happens for  Learners is they will have a particular issue  

they will think oh no I can't speak fluently but  really the problem is maybe their pronunciation is  

the bottleneck so the pronunciation or maybe  even a limited vocabulary they don't know  

many of the conversational words that natives  would use all right so again you could be you  

know whatever your problem happens to be my my  focus the thing I like to do is helping people  

find what this is because if you can find your  bottleneck that's when you can become a fluent  

speaker much faster basically you open this up  so you don't have a bottleneck anymore you just  

have good flow of your speech all right so let  me look at chat if anybody has any questions  

go ahead and put those in let's see all right so  uh popinka says exactly everything is clear glad  

here I have from El Salvador and Brazil how to  speak without pauses how to speak without pauses  

all right so you can give me an example of that  let me know what you what you mean by speaking  

without pause is if you mean uh like you're saying  something you you say a few words and then there's  

a gap and then you say a few more words is  that what you mean speaking without pauses

this is something I actually teach in speak  like me so that's another program I have and  

when you when you have this problem here usually  the the problem of speaking with pauses you can  

think about it again like the bottleneck idea or  so we use the bottleneck idea there's something  

where you're in this case the the problem with  the pausing is usually because you're trying to  

recall a specific word or phrase that you want  to use all right so what happens usually I keep  

saying is you're going to hear that again and  again uh for me uh so Pierre do I do lessons in  

English well this is a lesson in English right  here but yes most of the most of the things I  

do on YouTube are trying to help people understand  uh principles and and that's really what can help  

you get fluent much faster the the vocabulary  and things like that that people learn that's  

kind of the easy part after you understand how  to learn all right but let me just address this  

point about pauses that people struggle with  the natives will also have this same problem  

all right so let me erase this part over here this  is a good topic this is a thing that again people  

struggle with because they know the vocabulary but  often they still get stuck in conversations they  

still have these pauses so here's the example  of a native versus a learner a native lesions  

like a lesion like a cut on myself a legion all  right so let's do this example of uh here's we'll  

just put a big n up here for Native and we'll put  the L down here for English learner all right so  

what happens with the native so they're they're  speaking about something and they can continue  

speaking and speaking and speaking and speaking  and a learner over here usually they get again  

that that bottleneck idea the bottleneck over  here for this situation about pausing is usually  

because people are trying to think of a specific  word to say and when they can't remember that  

word that's when they pause and stutter and I I  don't know what to say all right so it could be  

maybe pronunciation or something but typically for  this so you're you're speaking and then suddenly  

there's a pause right here so that's what creates  the bottleneck so why is there a bottleneck here  

and not a bottleneck for the native speaker and  how can you move from this to this all right who  

would like to know how to do that it's actually  quite simple all right so I'll do this right  

quick just to show you what natives are doing  because and I want to make this really clear  

make it important for you natives also struggle  with what to say it happens all the time I I speak  

for a living so like I you know I'm good at being  able to do this and I'm very good also at watching  

other people especially professionals speakers and  I can see when they're thinking of one thing and  

they switch to something else all right so this  is the cool thing uh again a difference between  

Natives and Learners so what's happening when  they're when they're both learning so natives they  

have a much wider vocabulary because they'll have  like a word uh let's say a word like like begin

so there's a word begin we can  think of many different ways to  

say this we could think about start or  go forward or advance or step forward

or commence

so I'm just thinking about these words right  now okay a native is in in a conversation with  

something there's a flow of vocabulary but  suddenly they can't think of exactly how  

to say something they want to think of a  different way to say it so what happens is  

they are thinking about one thing and then  they immediately switch to something else  

they immediately switch to something else okay  so the difference is that while natives have many  

many different words and phrases they can learn  with or they can use in a conversation natives  

typically are Learners excuse me typically  just have one so they'll think about begin  

maybe start but the other ones  you don't really think about them  

let me know if you if you knew to think of like  go forward or Advance or commence so we're moving  

forward or approaching something there are many  different ways to say something and typically  

Learners just have a more limited vocabulary and  the reason is because they're typically learning  

from their native language into English so they  have one way of saying something usually in their  

native language they have many ways of saying that  just like there are in English but a native again  

they're learning all these different things from  the naturally varied review so naturally varied

I think naturally varied review may be like  the most important thing I ever discovered  

about language learning even more important  than that you have to understand like a native  

to speak like one so the naturally varied review  is the important thing that actually builds your  

fluency so you can learn something but you quickly  forget that information if you don't review it but  

information is very boring if you just repeat  it again and again so if I teach you a new word  

like the word start and I just say that word  again and again you will probably remember it  

but you really won't feel confident about using it  it's really the idea just like we talked about at  

the beginning of this video um for for intuition  versus uh Instinct so intuition and Instinct you  

don't learn just one definition for those things  you get lots of examples of them and that's how  

you build fluency all right and the Very like  probably the coolest thing is you can do this  

all by yourself all right all right so again  this basic difference is natives are they just  

know uh way more vocabulary that they can say and  they can switch from word to word but you don't  

really see this in conversations because they do  it so quickly natives often see this they can tell  

when someone was thinking about saying this but  they decided to switch to something else instead  

but Learners again usually just have one thing  and because they only have that one thing that's  

where they get stuck so if you want to remove  the pauses you need more naturally varied  

review in your learning and you need to build  your vocabulary kind of expand your vocabulary  

naturally this is why I call it naturally varied  review this is the same way natives are learning  

so knowing more than just one way to say something  and often uh you can do this I talk about this and  

speak like me also but you can do this it's just  you know imagine like water flowing in a river  

just like speech flowing in your mouth so you  have a rock here that's you know something you  

kind of get blocked from that the native can just  kind of go around that but the learner gets stuck  

right here thinking I want to use that specific  word something like that all right so they're  

thinking uh how can I express a particular thing  that particular thing and when they can't think  

of just that thing they don't think about how I  could use something else so a basic way even just  

one different way of saying this is like not  something so if I can't think of the word hot  

I can think of not maybe I think I can remember  the word cold so I can think of not cold and this  

is just one way of of of using more vocabulary  that you already have even if you can't find  

the perfect word for that situation so you don't  need to think about the perfect word and natives  

are often not finding the perfect word but they  are finding something to use in the conversation  

and that's how they keep the words flowing all  right so this is what I do in Japanese even  

though my vocabulary in Japanese is not that  big I'm able to take things so other words and  

just use them if I can't remember something or  explain something from one thing in a different  

situation all right so if you want to if this is  your problem you are speaking and then you have  

these pauses in conversations you're missing  naturally varied review all right so you need  

to build your vocabulary but actually make  it memorable all right good question let's  

go back and see if we have all right so we have  all right a whole bunch of people uh let's see  

so what are the most common bottlenecks  and how to overcome them all right so as  

far as most common most of the things most  of the problems that people have in English

come from how they learn in general so if  you're learning if you're learning like a  

student then you're going to have problems like  a student when you speak but if you learn like a  

native then you express yourself without having  these problems so you'll have like a grammar  

bottleneck or a pronunciation bottleneck or a  vocabulary bottleneck the same thing like this  

it's it's usually the just the main things that  people have the different pieces of communication  

so pronunciation listening is another one so if  in a conversation you could know a lot of words  

I think maybe have I talked about uh probably  not lately I'll do another example of this

so I have a program called the native  fluency blueprint that covers this  

but uh and speak like me talks about this as well

so one two three four five six seven oh no I drew  it too hot let me angle the camera up for you guys

okay so this is just a very simple drawing  of the what I call the uh English fluency  

profile English fluency profile now each one  of these is actually a different skill when  

you talk about fluency I know I'm gonna put  this down here so when you talk about fluency  

fluency is actually it's a bunch of different  skills together okay you don't just like have  

fluency you actually are using a couple of  different things together and that's what  

these are I don't want to talk about each one of  them individually because I've done this in other  

videos if you go to the English anyone uh just  a YouTube channel and type in uh English fluency  

profile you will find out about this but basically  you have things like your grammar ability  

you're listening your vocabulary your confidence  like that so each one of these things we can draw  

it like that now what most people think is  happening when they're learning languages is  

like like I mentioned before about the  bottleneck this is the same bottleneck  

idea it's just drawn in a different way all  right so it's the same idea of a bottleneck  

so the bottleneck for most people is  their weakest habit very important

Kyoto says can you give me a shout out a shout  out all right there you go shout out for you  

so the weakest habit that you have is the thing  that's actually your level of fluency all right  

I know this is it sounds a little bit weird  uh but the basic idea is that let's say let's  

say your your weakest habit is your listening so  that's your bottleneck here if you know many words  

if you feel confident if your pronunciation  is good your vocabulary is good but you  

can't understand what people say this is the  limiting thing here this is your bottleneck  

does that make sense so your fluency is actually  a collection of skills so if this is why you can  

have like a big vocabulary so someone could have  let's say this is like a big vocabulary you know  

thousands of words but if you have zero confidence  you won't speak all right so your level of fluency  

is actually this right here it doesn't matter how  many words you know if you don't feel confident  

so this is why the idea of a fluency profile is so  important because you can usually each individual  

has one thing that they that they really struggle  with and so if you if you look at this idea if you  

try to learn more words it won't help you speak  because of the real problem the bottleneck is  

your confidence all right let's see pretty clear  pretty clear so not absolutely clear we want  

Crystal Clear absolutely all right so confidence  is a psychological problem yes but again all  

of these things the the communication is a is a  mental activity it's all psychological all right  

so it's all using your mind I'm not really doing  anything physical other than moving my mouth or  

maybe my hands or something but the basic idea is  that even if a lot of people know many words but  

the problem is they lack confidence and it's the  confidence that stops them from speaking all right

what Fabiano says yes kind of like playing a  musical instrument same idea so if we have the  

ability to to speak just like if we're thinking  about a musical instrument if maybe some people  

uh like they know they can read music really well  but they don't actually practice their instrument  

then this is their level of of ability to  communicate ability to play the instrument  

okay so when people talk about bottlenecks these  are these are the bottlenecks it's just the uh  

uh the problem with with whatever you  know whatever that issue is so if it's  

listening maybe you can't hear very well  or you just lack native vocabulary or  

you lack confidence or whatever okay so  that's the particular bottleneck you have  

uh make sure and hopefully that makes sense to  people but this this this one idea this is also  

very very important if you understand this all  right let's see what else we have here uh when you  

think of any English word or find the best word  to describe something I feel like I have a frontal  

oh when you can't think of that you feel like  you have dementia yes and so this is what I  

just talked about before where again if you have  a specific word you're looking for but you can't  

find that it's really frustrating but natives  I'm saying natives have this problem also the  

interesting thing is that natives are just  able to to switch from one thing to another  

so Learners get very specific about a word they're  saying ah why can't I remember that one word from  

something but usually it doesn't matter from from  a conversation you know people will use things  

even when I'm speaking right now I might think of  one thing switch to something else and most people  

can't tell the difference all right so let's see  here so I have from Mexico how can I improve my  

fluency I have very good vocabulary but I can't uh  be as fluent as I wish again same idea so this is  

another perfect example of someone who has a good  vocabulary and probably can understand what I'm  

saying in this video but they lack fluency because  one of these things is actually a bottleneck for  

them so vocabulary is not a bottleneck for some  people for other people it is this is a personal  

thing that you know because of how people learn  some people spend a lot of time listening their  

listening is really good but they lack confidence  because you know maybe they worry about their  

pronunciation or or something like that how about  your Japanese fluency I follow you for a long time  

if you have a question about that I'm happy to  talk about me learning Japanese let's see here  

they'll make sure I didn't uh phrasal verbs  are a big problem who invented that mister  

phrasal verbs are a big problem who invented  phrasal verbs well this is something actually if  

you go to my website and you get either fluent for  life or the visual guide to phrasal verbs it shows  

you the three simple steps to learning phrasal  verbs they're actually very easy and they're  

really the most important part of conversational  speech for English Learners to learn so phrasal  

verbs these are things like pick up put down  spin around turnover just the things that even  

a native child would learn from a very early age  so this is really the the beginning of starting  

to make phrases for young children so I highly  recommend people learning phrasal verbs and it's  

the one thing phrasal verbs are great for actually  improving all of these skills so they build your  

vocabulary they build your confidence your grammar  all of these so it's really if you if you want to  

do one simple thing uh like unlike fluent for life  which is going to teach you a bunch of different  

things just focusing on phrasal verbs will improve  all these skills all right all right here we go  

so so thank you for helping me reach fluency what  you've done for me as Priceless glad to hear it  

remember I'm I'm I'm trying to be invisible as  a teacher really I want to help you understand  

the language and when you think this way you can  become fluent all by yourself without me having  

to you know do anything for you so really you guys  are doing a fantastic job so let's see confidence  

comes from practice the more you practice the more  comfortable you'll feel using what you practiced  

y'all I can talk about confidence uh let's see  I got point six and speaking how can I improve  

this at 0.7 uh it's the same the same thing you're  getting naturally varied review uh if you if you  

go to english91.com I can't put a link in this  video because it's a live uh but if you learn  

about fluent for life it explains how that works  so we just had uh one of our students uh Sheba got  

an 8.5 on the speaking for IELTS an 8.5 so that's  one half a point below expert level and just from  

using our lessons all right let's see what else we  have here uh so Fabiano continues I don't believe  

in pure talent to get good at anything you have  to have sweat many times literally yes I try to  

make it easier than that and the great thing about  like the or maybe the difference I should say is  

is like if you go to the gym and you're you're  trying to exercise you have to do all that work  

but me as a teacher I can make the lesson either  really good and understandable or really bad and  

and not understandable and so the the learner you  can teach yourself obviously uh but the the more  

important thing is the teacher's job in being able  to make the language understandable so if I do a  

good job then you learn and get fluent faster  without all the sweating that's part of the the  

nice thing about what I do so I can't do that  as like a Gym trainer all right let's see what  

can I do to increase my vocabulary importantly  remember when I need to use the word so remember  

the increasing your vocabulary this comes from the  naturally varied review from the way you learn as  

a uh as a native so you're learning as a native  even though you are not a native you're still  

learning that way that's what we talked about at  the beginning of this video but the basic idea

I think Ian maybe two weeks  ago we talked about this  

but there are two ways that you're learning the  language the first one is your you got like we'll  

just call this the learner and we'll call this  the native over here so the learner gets a word  

like uh let's see uh what's a good word all right  well I think we I think we did maybe we did over  

two weeks ago I'll just use that example  again because it gives you even more review  

so we have a word like over and what happens  when a learner is learning this word they will  

usually get a definition maybe a definition  in English or they will get a translation

so you're getting a definition or a translation  of that word and that's how you're learning it  

and because you learn that way remember  how you learn is how you speak I'll put  

this down here again as well how you learn is  how you speak how you learn is how you speak  

so if you learn through translations then when  you speak you will think through translations  

okay how you learn is how you speak if you  learn through translations you will speak  

through translations as well so learners and this  is this is the learning way so not not everybody  

who is a is like a second language learner  what people call a second language learner  

is learning this way many of them are my students  who do this over here so you get a word like over  

and you don't get a definition for it you get  lots of examples all right so over we might have  

a basic example like this this is when I gave  last week so the ball or the circle or whatever  

this is up here is over the square and then  we're going to compare this with something else

so just by looking at this this circle is  over this Square over but this circle is on  

this Square and I'm not trying to give you a  definition I want to give you examples and build  

that Network in your mind that you're that you're  trying to use okay so that way you don't have a  

particular thing that you're like ah okay there's  one definition for this okay let's see here

so we have over and on and again I'm not  trying to give you a definition I want to  

give you uh examples of that and so  we begin with something simple that  

a child might understand and then we move  to something more complex like overthink

and when you hear again this version of over we're  moving each time you get another example of it  

another example another example another example  this is where we're feeling more confident okay  

this is called naturally varied review so we're  going to hear not a definition not a translation  

of something I'm going to give you more and more  examples of something in different ways or I might  

use this in maybe different stories or I might  uh think about uh like different people giving  

you that same idea so somebody somebody else like  you hear a different voice saying the same kind of  

thing all right so to overthink something if  we imagine like I'm just thinking right here  

right now you know I'm just thinking about  something I'm thinking I'm thinking about a  

girl I like I'm thinking about a girl I like um  but now once I once I I start getting worried  

about that oh no I'm wondering oh no does she  like me maybe she has a boyfriend maybe she maybe  

she thinks I look stupid or something oh now I'm  overthinking overthinking all right now sometimes  

we can't use we don't usually say like under  think I suppose you could say that and people  

would understand what you mean by that but same  idea under think overthink and we also had another  

example uh from then and it's good I'm reviewing  these but you're getting them in different ways

overpaid if I go to a restaurant and pay just  the right amount so if I buy this marker at  

a store and the marker is one dollar then I  pay one dollar but if I pay a dollar twenty  

I overpaid Overkill perfect Overkill if you think  about Overkill like killing is the same idea

if I take someone in and like shoot them like  I you know shoot them in the head I just kill  

that person but in in an example like that  to Overkill means I'm shooting hundreds of  

bullets into them even though they're already  dead that's that's Overkill I'm doing too much  

I'm overdoing it okay so your job is not to  get a definition it's it's really to build  

a sense for what's correct now you can get a  definition but of like usually it's the the  

thing that that like native children and you'll  see this in your native language as well like  

most people are not giving definitions to their  kids all the time they're just using vocabulary  

and because the children are naturally building  a network in their head of all these different  

things like over this over that over this they  generally develop a sense for what's correct okay  

all right so that's how you're building a  vocabulary like a native and if you do that  

uh you will become much better at using uh your  particular vocabulary all right see if I can

all right if I'm scroll back through these make  sure I'm getting everybody all right so but you  

always have to do the heavy lifting yes in my case  I've I've taken the like the heavy lifting of of  

people learning and made it as easy as possible  by preparing everything for you now if you have  

to go to a gym or something and you have to lift  all the weight yes you have to actually do that  

kind of thing but with a good teacher who's  able to make something clear you can easily  

see the difference between a good teacher and a  bad teacher so a good teacher makes the language  

clear and removes the doubt from you but a  bad teacher creates doubt all right you can  

actually feel the difference as you learn so if  I'm not helping you then I'm a bad teacher you can  

actually feel that and if you go on YouTube and  just look and I'm not saying if people are good  

teachers or bad teachers or not but you notice  the difference when you look at people and just  

get definitions or examples if you don't feel more  fluent then you're probably wasting your time okay  

all right let's continue here I think I  may be taking too long on these uh on these  

questions over here all right let's see you  got more hellos a lows face the music was a  

good example yes you remember that from last  time to face face the music face the music  

all right so how you learn is how you speak  yes that's correct oh my God I'm leaked can you

best I'm sure everybody comments on you know  everybody's teaching videos like wow like you  

are the best or whatever but for you as a learner  out there really just remember if you're feeling  

it or not do you feel the lesson do you feel the  Improvement or do you not that's how you know it's  

actually a good lesson for you uh English anyone  are you from the US yes I am I live in uh Japan  

though Maria thank you for your videos they are  great glad to hear it all right let's see I have  

been reading uh English novel for a long time some  vocabularies I've seen 50 times and finally I got  

the real meaning and speak to my real language  exchange partner I always give it a try anyway  

I feel fine yeah so the more again that's a  perfect example of naturally varied review  

the more examples and different examples this is  the important part about that the more different  

examples you get of something the more likely  you will improve your fluency so each time you  

hear over it will change the definition a little  bit in your mind it will expand it because the  

definition is it's not like a a perfect thing it's  not like here's just a a perfect square and that's  

the definition of something definitions of words  are kind of like this like the word might it might  

mean a little bit something different over here  and that's why it's surprising when you hear that  

I think on that video last week I gave an example  about going to my accountant here in Japanese uh  

here in Japan and uh she talked about like the  head of the month like it's like atama atama and  

I was like oh I and I understood what she said  it was naturally varied review I had not heard  

head used in that way but I understood what she  said okay so that's how you're building fluency  

like a native rather than learning like a student  all right let's see here uh so people has to be  

aware that you will make it easier not effortless  well a really a good teacher I I don't want to  

like fight with Fabio I love Fabio very much and  Fabio's been awesome and I'm really glad that he's  

improved a lot and he knows like you do have to  put in some effort this is true but the the value  

of a teacher is is tremendously different in the  results that you can get from one learner versus  

another or one teacher versus another what time  is it in Japan it is almost 11 A.M here in Japan  

all right how does your eraser stick to the  board that's a mystery a mystery how does the  

Eraser stick to the board it's magnetic magnetic  eraser all right let's see all right so Maria  

says no you're the best teacher okay fine I'm  the best thank you very much Maria are you too  

all right so how all right so all right you guys  are too kind over here all right the funny thing  

is that's how I built my vocabulary yes and this  is exactly how everyone built their vocabulary  

as a native learner the thing this is the so I I  often tell people how you learn is how you speak

and I will tell you another one of my my sayings  

another one of my sayings  is uh you don't have to be

you don't have to be a native to get fluent  like one you don't have to be a native to get  

fluent like one so most people so they they  are a non-native so they think they have to  

learn this way but the truth is that anybody can  learn this way anybody can learn this way and we  

just proved it on this video all right so most  teachers are teaching like this because that's  

what they think you have to do oh it's a second  language so we have to teach it in a second  

language way no no no it doesn't work like that  that's not actually what's happening all right  

all right let's see uh I'm H my I don't know if  you spell that correctly my my role uh from I have  

been learning English for more than four years I  can understand all the things that you have said  

but I still find it difficulty to talk again uh  if you're not getting naturally varied review and  

you're not you're not getting that same kind of  review it's going to be difficult for you to speak  

you will understand a lot but that's why most  people have trouble uh being able to speak do I  

do live videos every Wednesday uh lately I've been  doing them uh but I hate having a schedule I know  

people are like wait when is the schedule when do  you do these but it's just like whenever I feel  

like it and I actually should probably do them  at different times because I know not everybody  

can join me at a specific time so it's whom you  learn from not what you learn or why has said  

that yeah and I have no words enough to thank you  no Fabio you were great and again I'm uh happy to  

have helped you learn but really the my job is to  make the language easy it's actually not to teach  

you I know that sounds like a funny thing but my  job is not to teach the language it's to help you  

understand the language and that's an important  difference all right let's see here so one of  

the most difficult part of English are phrasal  verbs all right so phrasal verbs are not difficult  

let me let me show you how I how I teach phrasal  verbs since people keep asking about phrasal verbs

so I gave you an example about this um like  teaching the word over so usually children  

when they're learning the word over for the  first time they're learning a physical like a  

preposition they're showing something and they can  usually understand it physically and this is why  

phrasal verbs are actually easy to understand  as well so I did this actually when I was in  

Vietnam teaching some students over there I was  doing examples of phrasal verbs and let's see  

so I had a like a pitcher of water on the  table this is a not so good picture of water  

and we were talking about just phrasal verbs  uh phrasal verb examples with putting water  

into a pitcher so I said okay what if I if I'm  pouring in water so I'm going to pour in water  

now what's happening as the water level is  increasing right now so the water level is  

increasing I keep on putting more water in I'm  using a kind of more advanced vocabulary less  

like like increase increases a word you can  use but the water level what do we call that  

can you think of any phrasal verb where we talk  about the water level so as the water goes in  

what's happening to the picture what's  happening to the picture so I put the  

water in that's another phrasal verb you can hear  it I'm taking something to put in I'm going to  

put in put in the water so what's happening  the water level is going up going to fill

so the pitcher is filling up with  water yeah so overflow that's where  

we get to the top and the water comes  back out you can think about flow  

over and here's that usage of over again  and every time you hear it you think ah  

your brain remembers all right so the water  could pour over it could flow over different  

ways of Express explaining this depending on  the strength of the water it could gush over

so to gush is like wow like the water really  comes out like a like a fire hose it's gushing  

out to gush out but the point is when we're  starting to learn phrasal verbs phrasal verbs  

are not difficult it's just how people learn it's  because of traditional lessons that teach people  

in a traditional way so they say okay here's a  phrasal verb you know we're going to teach you  

some some verb and now we're going to give you a  translation or a definition and you're going to  

repeat that but natives don't learn that way okay  so spillover is another thing we could use as well  

so we have the water is filling up right now I am  filling up the pitcher I'm filling up the picture  

all right so we can see feel like it's just to add  something to fill just like if I have a hole in  

the ground and I put a bunch of rocks or something  in it I'm filling up the hole to fill up the hole  

all right so same idea again it's the naturally  varied review where your number one you're seeing  

visual examples of stuff and when you understand  it just like like I talk about in fluent for life  

where I'm explaining the program to people uh uh  like an example I gave I think maybe a week ago  

or two weeks ago or a while ago I teach so many  lessons I I forget sometimes when a particular  

thing was but I talked about my daughter Noel so  my daughter Noel is uh she's a three years old  

she'll be four in January and I had a fan out in  the summertime make sure you can see that on there  

and I noticed Noel was touching the the fan  with her you know just like touching the fan  

with her hand and I said Noel don't touch the fan  you're going to hurt yourself all right so that's  

me trying to give her a lesson don't touch  the fan so the teacher just gives the lesson  

like that don't touch your fan don't touch the  fan or you'll hurt yourself something like that  

so don't touch the fan but she's not  really listening to what I'm saying  

all right so don't touch the fan and she's  not she's not really listening and so I  

say okay fine you will learn the lesson  yourself again learning like a native when  

you discover something yourself it's much more  powerful for you and it's much more memorable  

all right if someone just tells you something  you're like ah you know screw that teacher I'm  

not listening to them even if it's good advice  even if your parents tell you something that's  

helpful for you I'm telling my daughter hey you  should not touch that you could hurt yourself  

and then I just said okay fine if she's not going  to learn this lesson she will learn this lesson  

and my family was just in the living room and and  we heard a few minutes later just like a little  

you know and Noel pulled her hand back and we all  looked over and we knew it was that sound of a  

child like it's you know putting their their hand  in a fan it was a like a safer fan it's not like  

some metal blades that cut her something like that  but you know she was curious she wanted to know  

what will happen if I do this what will happen  if I do this all right and so there are two ways  

to learn that I can just tell her something or she  can Discover it herself and my job as a teacher is  

to give you enough information that you understand  something and you discover it for yourself rather  

than you trying to just again get a definition  or translation all right so if you're thinking  

about definitions and translations it's not your  fault this is just the way most people teach  

and they think they have to teach this way  because that's the way everybody does it and  

most people do what people just do normally  they're not thinking about how do we solve  

the actual problem and when I started learning  like this I said why can't I do the same thing  

why can't I learn this way why can't I teach this  way that's and that's how I got fluent in Japanese  

so I I struggled for 15 years trying to learn the  traditional way and I made very quick progress  

once I started learning like a native this way  and that's how I teach and that's that's why I  

teach this way so going back very quickly to  phrasal verbs so I'm giving this example I'm  

like pouring pouring water into this picture  right here so I'm pouring in or putting in  

and not all of these will be phrasal verbs  but the point is that you're you're making  

the connection you're you're doing  some action and then a Direction  

you know like I'm pouring something into that  and now it's flowing out so it's going in and  

out even a child understands those basic words and  then it's just like how is it moving in and out  

okay so fill up the same kind of example  and then when you once you understand this  

very well then you move to the next logical step  which is the more figurative meaning of something  

it's basically the same idea but like my heart is  filling up I'm like filling up with love right now  

for all of my students I'm filling up with love  so you can imagine just like a picture you know my  

heart you know my actual heart my heart probably  looks more like this you know it's some like  

know whatever a heart looks like like a real  heart you know with little lines and and stuff  

growing out of it but we'll imagine it like this  like a nice cheerful heart my heart is filling up  

with love like it's filling up so we take a  physical idea like this most phrasal verbs  

can be understood and they have some kind  of uh phrasal verb understanding like that  

so too abstract for me all right but this is  how uh natives are learning so another example  

I'll try to make a little less abstract one  but my heart is filling up it just means I'm  

you know like feeling full of something like  my stomach is filling up after I put a lot  

of food in it you see how I continue to give  you more examples and each time I give you an  

example you feel a little bit more confident  about that vocabulary so another phrasal verb  

we imagine some water like this and there's a  boat on that water and then there's a crazy storm  

and suddenly oh no there's some lightning  comes down and breaks the boat and and ah  

and we can just imagine this racer  is the boat right here and then oh no  

what's happening to the boat this is our boat  right here what's happening what's going on  

how can we describe that and there are many  ways to describe this but what's happening  

so like a child would look at this so  you have a boat up here and then oh  

it's sinking yep we can call  it sinking or we can just say

It's Going Under

so phrasal verb way again phrasal verbs the  the reason we we use phrasal verbs is because  

it gives us simple vocabulary and that we can put  these together in different ways so if you forget  

the word sync you can take phrasal verbs and  then we can just combine them in different ways  

so instead of go up or go across we  have go under so the boat is going under

my heart fills up with love when  I hear my wife's name there you go  

very good so it's filling up with love or you go  to the gas tank and like fill it up yep so the  

boat is going down and we think about it you know  it's like typically this is a trickier idea with  

water uh but this is like going under something  like that I'll explain Underdog in just a second  

but this idea does everyone understand this so the  water the boat is going it's really going under  

kind of the surface of the water that's why we  call it going under does everybody understand that  

oh my goodness Maria with kindness all right  fantastic if you know other people I can help  

please send them my way does this make sense so  I want to make sure before we go to a bit more  

abstract level that we have this idea cleared  so we have a boat and some water and oh no it's  

sinking It's Going Under it's going under okay  everybody got that going on I know this is a  

simple example but I want to make sure I want  to make sure everybody is clear yeah okay it's  

a good way to learn all right now from this  this is what natives are doing first example  

natives are understanding oh it's going under  even a child can understand that it's going  

under now usually when they get older they  might hear a business example of a company

going under what do you think that means a  company going under a company going under

what happens when a company is going  under can you imagine that same kind  

of thing you've got like a company  almost like a boat it's doing well  

but it's going under something's happening whoa  Jamie got it broke bankrupt yes okay so you can  

think about it the same kind of way people talk  about these so no it's not mixed with a company  

it's going bankrupt they're losing money  financially they're losing money okay they're  

going under so the business oh no something's  happening they're going under so it's the same  

kind of thing like syncing it just means like  maybe they are profitable up here but now they're  

below profitability they're going under oh no that  business in the past tense we can say oh they went  

under so business went bankrupt that's a way  of explaining that but again a child doesn't  

know the word bankrupt they probably wouldn't use  this example anyway this is a bit higher level but  

again it's a more abstract way of understanding  the same idea something is going under something  

is going under and you'll hear lots of different  examples of phrasal verbs like this but again if  

you learn phrasal verbs the typical way then of  course it will be hard to remember them but if  

you learn them uh the native way you get lots of  examples and you see how these work and that's how  

you really understand them so how not to forget  vocabulary I don't know if that was a question  

uh or or a comment but so this is how you don't  forget the vocabulary again it's it's all the same  

idea I really teach one thing it's understanding  like a native when you understand like a native  

you can speak like a native and you don't have  to be a native to do that okay all right you  

got it I already got that one all right so making  sure everybody everybody understands this if you  

want to learn only phrasal verbs like this get my  get my phrasal verb training so visual guide two

yeah phrasal verb so I call it the visual guide  to phrasal verbs because it's showing you how  

they work and I take you from that level to the  more abstract level it's a very simple formula  

for helping you understand the vocabulary I  did not mean to teach a bunch of phrasal verb  

things but just so uh teach one more well I  can't understand newspaper what do you mean  

you can't understand it ah okay so that's  a question about vocabulary but if you're  

curious about phrasal verbs and you want to learn  them the same way natives do that's how you do it  

so how not to forget vocabulary I have a program  about that too about uh not forgetting words how  

to remember any English word you can learn more  about that englishany1.com I'm sorry this is a  

live video so I don't have any links but if you  just go to englishanyone.com and click on the  

courses you will find links to all those programs  uh so someone mentioned Underdog before I'll  

just address that very quickly so an underdog  usually you have like uh like the powerful if  

you're going to have a fight or you know there's  like one guy who's got the big muscles over here  

and there there's going to be a boxing match and  then the other person over here like the smaller  

one that probably won't win we call this one the  underdog the underdog you can picture it like the  

higher level this one is kind of low below that  one the underdog you can think about these not  

as people but as actual dogs as well so I imagine  this is like a dog there we go and this is a dog  

too so let's say there's a fight between these  two dogs uh same kind of idea so we might have  

you know this one is everyone fixed this one  is going to win this one this is like the over  

dog and the underdog we don't typically say  over uh dog but that's a more in like German  

you would have something like that I think  I think but in English we just have like the  

smaller one so the underdog is the one who would  probably you know people want to to cheer for  

the underdog because they they know this guy is  going to win so we want this one to win instead  

all right someone mentioned another let's see  what about screw up ah so as as far as uh phrasal  

verbs to screw up something and you can think  about these in different ways there might not  

be one definition or one story or something  sometimes people will have their own way of  

you know thinking about a particular word or  something like that uh David versus Galactic  

similar kind of idea but the underdog just  means the weaker like the seemingly weaker  

one so we like the underdog to win because  the underdog probably will not win all right  

so there's typically the champion usually in  races or things like that we have underdog

and then we have like the favorite

or the favored

so like one guy is favored  and the other is the underdog  

all right but notice as you get more examples  you're you're learning it you're building a  

network rather than trying to think about  it as just an individual word so uh screw up

very quickly

so screw up you can think about  like unscrewing something uh or  

to mess something up so if you imagine  like a screw going into a piece of wood  

so you lock it down there if  you screw in so you screw in

so you screw in something in the other screw  down there it's holding it tightly but if we  

pull the screw up you can think about this  as becoming loose and creating problems  

all right so that's how you can just use a simple  story to help yourself remember something if you  

can't ever think of a visual way to do that do  that but to screw up like oh no I just screwed  

something up I broke something or I dropped  some water on my computer I just screwed up  

all right yeah Dark Horse is a  similar similar idea Dark Horse  

all right let's see but I don't I don't want  to get see this is this is the problem with  

these you start going off on a tangent about  specific vocabulary but I'm really trying to  

help you guys understand the the deeper lesson  here all right let's see if we have uh uh let's  

see also why can't I understand newspaper that's  usually because you just don't know the vocabulary  

all right so classes thank you very much you're  uh yeah very okay here more than welcome uh he

don't be ungrateful in the chat all right let's  see I got a thanks could you explain how does uh  

how does it work out of can you explain how does  up work as a phrasal verb so the same idea so up

if we're going to learn just like the  word up so children learn the word up  

and okay we're gonna move in the same direction  and again it's not it's not always perfect the  

point isn't to be like ah okay we're a robot and  we do something uh perfectly every time but moving  

up if we think okay like children understand  the word up and they're moving something is  

like moving in an upward Direction and  then they learn down at the same time  

so if I have as an example I'm sleeping and  my mom comes in and she says get up get up  

now people Learners will have maybe a little  bit of difficulty with this but we have wake up

and then get up these are two  different things I can wake up  

so I'm sleeping and then I wake up it's like  I'm in the dream world and I move up from that  

back into into the the conscious everyday  World we're in now so I'm waking up first  

after I wake up so usually people wake up and  they're still lying in bed for a little bit  

but then they get up all right so you can think  about them like physically moving up in their bed  

getting off the bed and you know I get up and  go do something so it's time to wake up what  

the market just flew out of my hand there and then  we have it's time to get up and go do something

hopefully that makes sense all right I've been  talking for almost an hour when is my next life  

I have no idea maybe next week maybe never who  knows but the people who do enjoy these lessons  

if you'd like to learn with me you notice  that I don't need to be live some people  

will be watching this actually most people will  be watching this uh later they'll be watching  

the recorded version on YouTube not live but you  don't need a live teacher to get fluent you don't  

need a live teacher to get fluent all right let's  see what's the difference in fill in and fill out  

it's basically basically the same thing again  it's it's you don't have to think of just one  

word or one definition for something or one usage  you can think there might be some like fill in

you have to listen carefully to how natives are  using these just as an example so let's say I give  

you a four all right the definition of in if we're  if we're really thinking about something let's say  

you got name and address and other things there's  a bunch of things on this form if I say fill in  

your name fill in your name it means like just  like we're filling in with water I'm going to  

put name in this space so I'm going to fill in my  name fill in all right but fill out typically Out  

means we're kind of moving in a broader Direction  so moving from one place to another so I'm going  

to take it and apply that to the whole thing  I'm going to fill out the form okay fill out

so I might you can you can say please fill in  this form it's the same idea where it's like we  

want you to put in in each one of these things  so please fill in this form okay and fill out  

all right I'm not going to go through more  phrasal verbs because I've done this like tons  

of times but hopefully this makes sense all right  so it's it's not an exact science all the time but  

the basic idea is that like when you think about  filling something in it's like putting something  

in something else to fill in so fill in the form  means like fill in each of these little little  

areas but to fill out the form means we're like  filling something out another example of fill out  

is if I have like a really thin person  

and he's got some really big pants on  let's see these are the pants right here

it's a very thin person very thin waist  but as he starts eating more he fills out  

okay so he's taking up more space moving  outward not moving in okay it's a small  

thing but this is when we talk about  wow like somebody really filled out  

okay same idea but you don't get the definition  from one word or one usage the point is to use it  

in different situations to hear it from different  speakers it's a naturally varied review it gets  

you fluent so Learners are still thinking like  what is the definition of fill in it depends what  

do you mean by that and and like what exact usage  because this where you put your name in something  

it's still really the same thing as filling some  like a gas tank or a water pitcher something  

like that you're still filling some space you're  filling in or if I'm going to fill out usually I'm  

filling some space but I'm moving outward rather  than moving in okay so it's small things like this  

that you understand these are the nuances of the  language that you understand when you learn like  

a native rather than learning like a student all  right and that's why I don't on these videos I  

like to answer questions but if I start people  like what about this word and that word and that  

word and that word if you try to do all of these  individual words you won't remember anything  

so it's much better to focus on a thing learn  it in different ways and then once you feel  

confident then you move on to the next thing  so that's how I teach in fluent for life and  

again similar I think a similar thing in  the visual guide to phrasal verb so fluent

so fluent for life is like having me right  there with you as you learn in this same way  

but I'm teaching you the things you want  to learn so you can jump to lessons about  

business English or things about you know pets or  love and relationships or whatever the thing is  

you're interested in but I'm giving you this the  naturally varied review and the the understandable  

messages so that you can really become a fluent  speaker without needing anyone to practice with  

so when you understand you can practice if you  like but again the understanding is the thing  

that really gives you the confidence to speak  if you learn a word like fill out or a phrase  

or whatever and you don't really feel confident  about using that then that vocabulary is wasted  

it's much better to learn something to know  it really well and then get out and use that  

vocabulary all right let's see if we got anything  let's are you Latin are you asking me no I'm not  

I'm not allowed that's interesting maybe if I get  a tan I could look a little bit Latin uh so how to  

put vocabulary in use the right way all right so  oh so I always have trouble with the words in and  

on and again you you learn these things you you  won't have trouble with them when you're learning  

like this so again a a like a traditional typical  language class is going to give you a word like on

and then they're going to say okay here are some  examples of that but I really want to give you a  

lot of examples and then in different situations  so not just a physical thing but like something  

else like like on the marker is on my hand  or it's over my hand above my hand right now  

but the more examples you get that's how you  really get those so you don't have to think about  

um like in versus on so if I have a box here so  right now the ball is on the box or right now  

the ball is in the Box all right and so that's  one basic example usually when when children are  

learning this for the first time and then they  start learning things like well am I am I like  

on the parking lot so here's some cars or am I  in the parking lot you really could be either  

typically the you have to as you start  thinking more like a native as you learn  

like a native and so you can be on the parking  lot or you can be like inside it's almost like  

an invisible box and this is what natives  are thinking like oh I'm in the parking lot  

or they're thinking about the flat space like this  like being inside that area so I'm on the parking  

lot or I'm inside the parking lot same kind of  thing all right so it's not like one is correct  

and one is incorrect it's just different ways of  thinking and you learn that you develop that sense  

of thinking like a native when you learn like a  native all right so this is using vocabulary uh  

I think it's okay to make pauses native speakers  are friendly and very understanding they get it  

listening to Broken English they help us find the  word uh thanks for all you do yeah again this is  

for people who want to speak and be able to make  their conversations flow the same way natives do  

without having to pause and think about things but  yes natives do pause as well and many of them are  

very friendly and they'll be happy to help you out  with that uh what level should be at to apply for  

college that's beyond the scope of this video in  the grass and on the grass yeah same kind of idea  

so you can think about like standing on the top  of some area of grass or you can think about like  

from the side you know like your feet are in the  grass just like they're in the water same idea  

all right hopefully this makes sense the basic  idea if you learn like a student you will struggle  

uh to speak like one and then if you have let's  see if you have any uh trouble communicating it's  

really just because you're not understanding like  a native okay so how about talking in an advanced  

level so I recommend people understand like  this and that's where your speaking gets to an  

advanced level Advanced speaking doesn't come from  Advanced vocabulary it comes from Advanced use of  

the language even a basic language so you could  have basic vocabulary but children like I talked  

about at the beginning of this video can often  speak better than many adult Learners because they  

have a more advanced really just more practice  and more more time spent learning like a native  

rather than adult Learners who are trying  to learn like students so you might have  

someone who knows a lot of advanced vocabulary  but they often can't communicate naturally  

so Advanced vocabulary doesn't make you an  advanced learner it just means you know some  

Advanced vocabulary so the difference is can  you use the vocabulary you know all right to  

be honest with you when I want to speak English I  forget everything I learned and I become stressful  

yeah so that's again the reason that happens to  people is because they're not learning like this  

all right all right I think that should be it I'm  gonna lose my let's see how to use might well I'm  

getting to the end of my voice over here but I  might I might cover that next week if I have a  

video I might do that maybe I might do that again  might we're we're looking at a word like that when  

people say how do you use might what do you mean  by that okay a student says how do you use might

and a native speaker says what do you mean by that  

what do you mean might do you mean maybe do you  mean strong like oh that's a mighty warrior okay  

just like the example of bark I gave earlier  what do you mean by that and this is why when  

you understand vocabulary like a native you're  not thinking about like what does that mean  

you're hearing situations and connecting the  situations with the vocabulary I'm just trying  

to reach the highest level I can all right  here's a here's a last secret for everybody

make sure you can see this  final final secret for the day

so let's say this is like the fluent level up  here gonna Advance the intermediate uh basic  

level down here now if you want to build your  fluency and you want to get to the fluent level  

the best way to do this what we say in English  make sure I can fit this in here the broader

the base

you can read that so the  broader the base the taller

so if I try and this is what  a lot of students try to do

their idea is that they will learn a  little bit and develop a lot of fluency  

but again like a tower that's  going to fall down pretty easily  

so the broader the base you have to make your  base broad the people who speak well mastered  

the basic language this is why children speak  so well even though they don't know a lot of  

advanced vocabulary they speak better than  many adults because they have a broader base  

a solid foundation just like you're making a  building a broader the base the taller the tower  

if you have a broad base you can have a  tall tower that's how you get to fluency  

so fluency happens automatically as you as  you perfect this it doesn't happen by trying  

to learn a bunch of vocabulary up here that's  not what fluency is fluency has nothing to do  

with with how many words you know okay let's  think over our heptagon and go ahead all right  

so hopefully that makes sense so uh you can  learn like a student and learn like a native  

and you don't have to be a native to do that  all right all right let's see here this might  

a future tense of me yeah we're not yes we're not  we're not talking about like the the future tense  

this isn't even uh like a like a verb like that so  I might I might go like I'll possibly do something

but again maybe or strong depends all  right so remember if you want to think  

like a native and you want to learn like a  native that's how you're going to become a  

fluent speaker much faster do you have class  every day this is my first day how to remember  

vocabulary all right all the questions  people are answering or asking I should say

are found in fluent for life if you want lessons  every day you could learn with me for hours and  

hours every day in fluent for life it's the  same video training like I'm doing here but I'm  

actually uh that the fluent for life is actually  better than these live videos because I can take  

time and really plan how the lesson is and just  deliver the naturally varied review and just make  

it very easy for you to learn so I know people  like live lessons but I'd much rather have a  

structured bit of content it helps you learn much  faster a door Advanced vocabulary but I forget  

a lot of that yeah so again it's okay to learn  Advanced vocabulary all right Sam well amazing  

the founder of Walmart very cool all right so what  are what are chunks it just means pieces of things  

but it's much better like go to Google and  do an image search for chunks and you will  

see lots of different chunks you'll see  chunks of cheese chunks of I don't know  

rocks or other things like that all right so  if you would like to become a fluent speaker  

going for life all right so this is learning  with me anytime you want and learning whatever  

you want depending on what you're interested all  right so I built this whole program so people can
