Speaking of French and France, it is the big election this weekend.

Who will be the new president of France?

There are not many people

who who might be elected.

I think most people seem to

think that Macron will be the president again.

However, there are some contenders every time.

Every time there is a French election,

they always talk about Marine Le Pen as well.

I don't know why, but the media becomes

almost insane whenever there is a French election.

They always seem to say things like Marine

Le Pen is getting a lot of support, as if somehow

that will scare people into doing something else.

So I suppose I suppose

it would be fair to say the election won't be close.

I don't think it will be close.

I think when people go to actually vote, I think they will make the decision.

That seems the most sensible

So I know sometimes human beings

can react with their emotions.

I have to be honest, I am feeling rather emotional today.

Doing this for various reasons, but I think it does happen.

Sometimes people do vote with their emotions.

However, if you are thinking that your country

is going to be run by a certain person with certain ideas or views,

then maybe that will be the thing that you make your decision on.

We will see what happens.

So it will either be decided today or this weekend,

or it will have run on for another vote.

We will see what happens.

I haven't seen the news today, so I'm not sure

what they are saying about it on the news.

It's a little bit chilly, but we are out here for a special reason because we are going to cut down

that is growing at the moment in the garden.

Well, the full name of the plant is a car.

And of course, we bought this particular plant

because it's got a mention of your name.

So I actually spotted this plant in the shop I said to Mr.

Steve, I said, Look, Mr.

Steve, this plant is called called don't kill us.

And my name is Duncan.

So I couldn't resist.

I said to Mr.

Steve, I said, Let's buy one, and then we can have

a dozen killers growing in the garden. Yes.

Mr. Duncan, you wanted to have a plant in the garden that sounded like it was named after you.

What an ego.

Of course, I couldn't resist buying it.

Because it's called Karl. Don't Kill US.

And my name is Duncan.

Mr. Steve is busy

pulling up the sticks that have been holding up

the don't kill us for so long

Come on, Mr. Steve.

Give it a good pull.

Because, of course, this is a very big plant.

Look at the size of it.

So what do you think, Mr. Steve? Do you think you'll be able to do it?

Yes. This plant needs it chopping down

because it's dies off in the winter.

And therefore, if we leave it out

it won't look very nice because you can see the one behind is already dying off.

This is what you call a perennial plant

which means that it dies off

during the winter months and comes back again in the spring.

So so this plant will kind of regenerate itself. Yes.

So so this plant here will die off.

So we will cut it away.

And then next year, a new plant will reappear as if by magic It's grown

this height in one growing season,

and the new baby plants are already present at the base.

That's incredible.

Well, first of all, what's happened to you?

Well.

Well, I thought I got a cold on to cut a long story short.

And if my sister's listening, do not tell my mother

because she thinks I've just got a cold.

I thought I'd just got a cold on Thursday,

and I was testing myself and everything was alright.

But then.

Then on Friday, I still,

you know, I thought, oh, this is going to be an annoying cold.

And then suddenly I thought, Well, our test is off again.

And it came up positive.

So positive you know, just goes to show those tests in the early stages.

Don't necessarily tell you, give you a positive result even though you have got the dreaded

C, sorry, you can't say COVID.

Yeah, well, I know so. Yes, so I was fell ill.

I've got symptoms and everything that it tested negative.

It took, you know, like a day for it to test positive.

So so Mr.

Steve now has as corona virus he has to go into isolation

and that's the reason why he's not here with us in person.

However, he is like like a voice from above.

He is with us.

I'm not a pretty sight at the moment, Mr. Duncan.

That is true.

That is another good reason for you.

Not being here on camera.

And obviously, I don't want people to see me.

They used to see me in my beautiful best.

And, you know, today I'm unshaven.

And I've got a red nose

probably set of red eyes.

It probably looks as though I've been had a night on the binge.

A night on the binge is when you go out and you get drunk and you drink a lot of alcohol.

But I can assure you it is not that so.

So I wanted to be sure everybody I'm quite well, but when I say quite well,

it's just felt like I've had a very, very heavy cold.

I was going to say, what are the symptoms then?

Well, it feels like a combination of somewhere between a bad cold and flu.

And, you know, it's

I've been so careful and it's very annoying.

I suppose it's only a matter of time seeing as it's everywhere.

I've never known so many people to be getting cold at the moment.

I don't know what it's like in other countries, but in the UK

it seems to be everywhere and everyone's getting it.

Half the people at work have got it.

Yeah, well, last month, Steve, last month

in the UK, it was, it was over 5 million people,

the highest ever so far.

Yes, I can believe it because, you know, even during the height of the pandemic, people weren't

getting it as much as they are now, but they all seem

to be reporting the same

outcomes i.e.

heavy, cold, somewhere between flu and

and and a bad cold.

But I feel a lot better.

I don't want to have known because I'm sure lots of people around the world are also getting it.

It's not like this is the trouble.

Now, you don't get any sympathy for getting COVID now

because it's you know, we're over two years into it

and, you know, it's just people are just treating it.

Certainly in our country.

They're just treating it a bit like a bad cold.

Well, I suppose one of the big changes that has occurred over

the past couple of years is is the introduction of the vaccines.

And I suppose that is something that is helping people, not necessarily

see to to be free of it and not get it,

but at least if, if people get it, such as you stave

the the effects are not as bad.

So so you are you are standing up at the moment

doing this and and you.

Well, maybe Steve is slightly

swaying from side to side. But

but at least you're here.

I'm here yes. Exactly.

So I presume it's the Omicron variant that I've got.

That's true.

I think the predominant strain in the UK at the moment I presume it's that one.

But as you say, Mr.

Duncan, as you just pointed out there, I wouldn't have liked to have had it.

I know this.

What if this is what it's like with vaccines?

I hate to think what it would have been like without them.

I'm assuming they've they are working

and I think that's why there are sort of so many cases in the UK, but not so many people going into hospital.

And because, you know, as you pointed out, we're all quite well vaccinated.

So that presumably is protecting us.

But then of course the end, the current strain isn't supposed to be quite as deadly now.

So, you know, we won't know whether it's that or whether it's the vaccines that are working.

But either way, I'm not alone.

The country's getting it,

but we're just sort of

that's the stage we've reached in the UK now where we're just getting on

and we just sort of accept it like a bit of a cold.

So I'm not going to get any sympathy.

No, I know that from where

by the way, just to let let your viewers

know, I can't I cannot see the live

lives.

I can't see the comments today

because I can't get it to work on my phone.

I wish you could have seen Mr.

Steve trying to get YouTube to open on his phone.

It was a bit funny.

You know, I didn't think about doing that.

You see, I just I just assumed

You see, I don't know whether I'm clicking on today's or last week,

so I just I'm still desperately trying to open it.

You see, this is, of course, what I've been trying to organise for for many, many years.

Some excuse for is not to spend very much time together.

It's been weird, though, because we can't actually see each other.

We can't.

We can't get close together. We can't chat face to face.

We have to always have have a big distance between us.

I am secretly enjoying it,

but I know that after two or three more days,

I might start to feel a little.

And no one's asking about me.

No one seemed to have asked.

Oh, Mr. Duncan, by the way, how are you, though?

Have you have you tested yourself?

And I have tested myself and I'm still negative, so I haven't got it.

I don't have coronavirus.

However, Mr.

Steve at the moment does.

So that's the situation as it stands.

Well, you see, this is this is my this is the big worry now that,

you know, there's about four day

isn't the four or five day lag or the incubation period there is.

There is a period of time, isn't there, between actually catching it

and the symptoms showing that's it.

So with this Omicron they, they,

they believe it's sort of somewhere between three and five days.

So we won't know if you're clear until Monday or Tuesday.

So for me, it's a waiting game.

So it's a bit of a waiting game.

And that because the problem is,

you know, we were spending obviously we were together on the Thursday

when I was testing negative, even though I had symptoms

well but can I just mention the story on Friday?

I did my live stream on Friday and

and this is this is how it turned out yeah.

I was talking on the live stream about Mr.

Steve being unwell.

And I said, don't worry everyone.

It's nothing serious.

It isn't COVID.

But at the same time, Steve

was in another room in the house giving himself a test,

and that's when he found out he did have it.

So the irony of me standing

here on Friday reassuring everyone that Steve was alright,

while at the same time Steve was in another room

finding out that he did have it.

So that was I remember your face, Steve,

when you came down and you said to me,

I I, I've got Corona.

Well, I've got it.

I've tested positive and I thought, Oh, here we go.

It was quite a shock, you know, because I've done lots of those tests

and I've never seen two lines on it.

And you suddenly looked at as anyone that's watching

will know if they've ever, ever done those lateral flow tests

and they've done a few of them, and you just see one line.

And then when you see if you do and if you see two lines, you think

oh my goodness.

Yes. It's a bit like probably it's a bit like the pregnancy test.

If you think you might

be pregnant and then you do the test,

you put a little bit of you wee wee on something and then it turns turns a certain colour.

I think it turns blue I've never taken a pregnancy test, to be honest.

I've never I've never had to think about that

for various reasons.

But but it must be a little bit like that.

So maybe if you want your baby or if you are excited about maybe being pregnant.

However, if you're not then it must be the same feeling

as seeing your your two little red lines

on your COVID test.

I guess yes.

So wherever you know where I'm fine,

I I don't think it's going to get any worse.

I feel a lot better today. Good.

Yes, it's cold, but it's nice. Yes.

It's it's going to be you know, interesting

that the way it's being reported here is that, uh,

uh, Marie Le Pen

or Marilyn,

I can't remember how you pronounce the name, but she might, you know, she stands a chance of getting

in, which would be a huge shock that they're reporting that I don't know how close in reality really is.

No. Well, you know, they do this every time.

Every time they have the French election.

They always say that the far right might, might,

might take the election, but it never happens.

And I think they do that just to scare people

into voting.

The other way.

Wow. That's well, that's why.

When do we get the result there, Mr. Duncan?

What are people saying? Well, I think they're coming through today.

But also, if there isn't a clear winner

then it will go through to a second round.

So we could get the result tonight.

Then we it could happen if if there is a clear majority

but if not, then it will go through to a next round.

The the elections in France of a little different from ours.

We just have one election and then whoever gets first

to a certain point, a majority, then they win and that's it.

But I think it's slightly different with the French election.

now the reason why I'm doing this is because of Lewis Mendez.

Lewis wrote to me and asked a question about the word

cut to cut out or to cut off.

Is there a difference and what are the differences?

So we are looking at that and many of uses of the word cut for.

First of all, the word cut can be used in many ways.

So there are many uses.

You often find in English the shortest words.

The words with the least amount of letters quite often

can be the most interesting, and that's what I've noticed anyway.

But what do I know

as a verb?

Cut means to use a sharp object

to dig into something so as to make an incision.

So you cut something as a verb, you are actually doing

the thing, you are creating the cut.

We often use the word incision,

and incision is the result of cutting into something.

So the incision is what is left.

When you cut into something, you make an incision

maybe if you are having surgery on a certain part of your body,

maybe you are having something fixed,

maybe you are having something removed.

It can be anything.

I suppose you can have something removed from your body.

Can you think of anything?

Maybe your appendix there was a woman last week

who was rushed to hospital

It's true.

I'm not making this up.

There was a woman last week who was rushed to hospital

after trying desperately to hold in her

and because of all of the gas
