maybe perhaps I'm not sure at the moment we will go outside at some point today

course it is very sunny outside the Sun is very bright on my very sensitive eyes

also mr. Steve this week I just tell you though because I'm very excited mr.

Steve this week was rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars

well one Hollywood star so this week mr. Steve I'm not kidding I'm not joking mr.

Steve this week was rubbing shoulders do you like that expression the expression

rubbing shoulders or rub shoulders means to be near someone so if you are very

close to someone we can say that you are rubbing shoulders

so this week mr. Steve he was away staying at a big hotel a big posh hotel

I don't know why but this week mr. Steve was rubbing shoulders he was near a very

famous celebrity that's all I'm saying for now I'm sure mr. Steve will explain

later on what it's all about but yes mr. Steve was was was rubbing

shoulders with Hollywood this week Wow I can't wait to find out about that so

it's live English live on YouTube of course there are many people on YouTube

doing their live streams besides me there is one particular guy on YouTube

at the moment now I must be honest uh I have I have become addicted to watching

this particular guy it's a man on YouTube and let's just say let's just

say he's very very large okay he's fat he's very very fat and he he

appears in a live stream now this live stream is always on so it's on for most

of the time and quite often when he's at home he's doing general things like

sitting in front of his computer or playing computer games but sometimes he

gets very angry with the people on the live chat and he starts shouting and

screaming at them so there is a chap living in where does he live he lives in

New York in the Bronx and his name is Erik and now he's quite well known on

the Internet so what he does he sits in his house and

his house is very small it's just a very small room just one room that he lives

in but I must admit I have become a little bit addicted to watching Erik

he's a very large man that's all I'm saying

live-chat is up in running but first of all this week something happened in the

UK that's very very exciting we have a new ten pound note oh wow mr. Duncan

that's so exciting yes would you like to see the new ten pound note here it is

this is the new ten pound note that has been issued this week in the UK in fact

it only became available two days ago so this is the brand-new ten pound note now

a lot of people were were complaining about the British notes the British

money because people were complaining saying why aren't there more women on

the notes now my my take on that particular argument is the fact that

there's always a woman on our notes and that's the Queen I mean the Queen ism as

a woman isn't she the queen is a woman I'm sure she is so there there has

always been a woman on the banknotes here in the UK so on the back we have we

have a new lady on the back and also a new look for the ten pound note so there

it is the brand-new ten pound note has been released this week do you know who

the person is though on the back do you know who it is

on the back of the new ten pound note if you know please let me know as well and

of course the saga of mr. Duncan's new neighbour my new neighbour

do I have a new neighbor yet very soon I have a feeling I have a strange feeling

I don't know where it's coming from I think maybe I might be a little bit

psychic but I have a feeling that my new neighbors will be moving in next week I

have a feeling I don't know why sometimes you do don't you you get a

feeling you get a strange feeling that something

is about to happen some people believe that it is supernatural some people

believe that they can read other people's minds or see into the future or

talk to dead people and that happens to be one of today's subjects so there it

is this word is a word this is often misspelled it is psychic psychic a

person who is psychic is a person who can see into the future or maybe read

people's minds or quite often a psychic is a person who can talk to dead people

complaints we were complaining we were moaning we were talking about things

that annoy us and one of the things that we mentioned last week was cats now

yesterday we went on a walk mr. Steve and myself we went walking

around the local area and we saw a very friendly cat now last week mr. Steve and

I we were both complaining about cats because sometimes people who own cats

also put bird feeders outside and of course cats quite often will kill birds

so we couldn't work out why that was so we couldn't work out why someone who has

a cat also would attract birds to their garden so here is the cat that we saw

yesterday

cats is that once they start meowing they don't stop so there it was the cat

have big baby they have fleas they have little things

last week we had the mystery idioms now last week I didn't give you the answer

to both of the mystery idioms because I wanted to keep them until this week so

today we are going to show you the mystery idioms again the same ones as

last week because I didn't give you the answer to last week's so here they are

again these are the mystery idioms all you have to do is say what you see these

are well-known English expressions these are expressions that are very commonly

used in English but what are they today's mystery idioms and here is the

other one so these are today's mystery idioms now last week I was talking to

mr. Steve so much and for so long that I completely forgot about the mystery

idioms so this week we are showing the same ones again so what are the mystery

idioms there is the first one and there is the second one I will give you a clue

they are both well-known English expressions expressions that are used in

English and there is the other one that's nice if you think you know what

they are please let me know so let's have a look at some of our past lessons

I have been making lessons on YouTube for over 10 years and now we are going

to take a look at one of my special lessons that I made during October

October in 2013 and we called these lessons a dunk towba so we all shared

our knowledge we all learnt a little bit of new English together by watching my

dunk towba lessons now here is one of my dunk Tober lessons and this is October

lesson number nine 31 days of dunk Toba j9

good morning everyone hello and welcome to day nine of 31 days of dank Toba as

you can see I am in my garden hanging out some wet washing hopefully it will

dry today because it's very windy the wind is very strong it's great weather

for drying clothes I have been asked a few times to explain why I am making

these special lessons during October well the reason is that on October the

31st I will be celebrating my seventh year of making video lessons here on

YouTube on October the 31st 2006 I formed my youtube channel this occurred

while I was still living in China so the 31 days refers to the date my channel

was created and dunked oba well that is just a fun play on words October becomes

dunked over

I thought today we would look at some idioms as they always help to live in a

per sentence today's first idiom is off the cuff this

idiom refers to a comment or something that has been said with little or no

preparation the things said has not been thought out and off the cuff speech is

one that is being made up as it is being given the speech can be described as

impromptu it is being said on the spur of the moment an off-the-cuff remark

means that something was said without thinking sometimes an off-the-cuff

comment can get you into a lot of trouble

the phrase refers to the curve found on the end of a shirt sleeve our next idiom

is splitting hairs or to split hairs if someone is splitting hairs than they are

arguing or complaining about something small and trivial oh how you just loved

splitting hairs if you split hairs then you actively look for something small

and trivial to complain about he always wants to split hairs about the food if

someone is losing an argument then they might start splitting hairs so as to try

and win another great phrase is nitpicking this means that you are

focusing on the small thoughts of something and being over critical a

fussy person will always find fault even if there appear to be none know what a

nitpicker

there are lots of longtail tips feeding above me can you hear them hmm how

lovely today's final idiom is heads up to give someone a heads up or to get a

heads up means to give or receive a warning of some approaching danger or

problem you give someone a heads up to warn them you give them a chance to

react before an event occurs you can give a heads up to one or more people if

someone helps you out by giving you a warning then you can thank them for the

heads up hey thanks for the heads up yesterday if

someone did not warn you then you might say hey a little heads up might have

been nice to warn someone is to give them a heads up

can you see who are back the Sheep they're back in the field well I don't

think they're the same sheep as last week but it's still nice to see them

isn't nature lovely so there it was one of my special October lessons that I

made way back in 2013 now quite a few people have asked mr. Duncan October is

coming very soon we will be in October but what will I be doing for my

anniversary because this year I will be celebrating my 11th year on YouTube 11

years I've been here teaching English on YouTube and of course you can find all

of my lessons under this video right under this video all of my playlists all

of the lessons that I've made over the past 10 nearly 11 years nearly 11 years

I've been doing this I can't believe it I really can't have you seen the new

movie the movie that everyone is talking about starring the scary clown Pennywise

it it that's the name of the movie it is based on a story by Stephen King he is

the master of horror stories and this is a new version of it because of course

originally it was made as a TV movie in several parts but now it is a proper

official movie it is in the cinemas right now very scary one of the

questions today are you afraid of clowns do you like clowns are you afraid of

them so what do you think are you afraid of clowns and what do we call the fear

of clowns so do you like clowns some people are very scared of clowns

they find them very frightening but are they really scary what do you think are

you afraid of clowns do they scare you and what is the fear of clowns called

there is a word it is a certain type of phobia so what is the name of the fear

of clowns so do you like clowns are you afraid of them a fear of clowns is

called what what is it called do you know and do you believe in

psychic abilities can a person talk to their dad do you believe in fortune

tellers now of course fortune tellers are very

similar to clairvoyance so when we talk about fortune tellers we talk about

clairvoyance a person who is clairvoyant can see the future they can see what is

going to happen next so there we go clairvoyant and also a

person who is psychic a psychic person quite often claims to be able to speak

to people who have died the spirit world as they call it I will hopefully tell

you a story later on about one of my relations who apparently used to be

clairvoyant she used to be clairvoyant she could

talk to the future she could receive messages from the future and also she

said she was psychic as well so that's a little bit later on I will be doing a

live reading I am going to see if my my genetic family history has made its way

to me so I'm going to find out today if I have

the power if I am psychic so I'm going to do a reading on mr. Steve a little

bit later on we will see how well I do also we'll be going into the garden

because we are going to to have a look at some animal sounds and what I want

mr. Steve to do is to tell me what the animals are that make those particular

sounds so that coming a little bit later on talking of mr. Steve we have been

busy in the garden filming some flash phrases and also flash words would you

like to see today's first flash word from mr. Steve okay here it comes now

allocate the word allocate is an English word that means to distribute resources

or duties for a particular purpose to give individuals items or tasks for a

specific reason is to allocate for example the government plans to allocate

the money fairly tomorrow we will allocate the new working hours to put

something aside for a particular purpose or use is allocate the past tense of

allocate is allocated the noun form is allocation for example the employees are

not happy with the latest shift allocation to allocate is to assign

designate distribute disperse give out handout give deal out or issue the word

allocate derives from the medieval latin word allocate which means allotted

acceptable it means that general society accepts it they see it as something that

is okay to do now one of the things that I've noticed here in the UK something

you used to be able to do but you can't do now because it is no longer socially

acceptable is pick your teeth you know what it's like you go for a meal in a

lovely restaurant and you have something to eat and maybe you have some meat

maybe you have a a nice big juicy steak and afterwards you get lots of things

stuck in your teeth between your teeth you get lots of food lots of debris

stuck between your teeth and of course I can't stand it I really hate it so what

I like to do is to pick my teeth I like to to get the pieces of food from my

teeth I like to pick my teeth now apparently nowadays in the UK it is

no longer socially acceptable you cannot do it but I want to yesterday I was

having my Saturday lunch in Much Wenlock and afterwards I had lots of chicken

stuck between my teeth and I really wanted to pick my teeth but apparently

it is no longer socially acceptable you cannot do it anymore

you cannot pick your teeth anymore I do miss my days in China because when I was

in China it was socially acceptable that means you could do it you could pick

your teeth as long as you covered your mouth up so you could pick your teeth as

long as you covered your mouth like this

got it so picking your teeth is no longer

socially acceptable here in the UK but what about where you are

is it still socially acceptable can you go for a meal and then pick your teeth

it's horrible so now I have to walk around much when lock on a Saturday

afternoon with lots of pieces of food stuck between my teeth I don't like it

wristwatch there it is now can I just say that this rich

wristwatch is not new I've actually had it for about three years so I've

actually had this maybe longer in fact I think I've had this for more than four

years now the reason why I'm wearing this and not my other watch my little

calculator watch is because my calculator watch has died the battery

has run out so there is no power left in my old watch so instead I'm wearing this

one it is amazing what people notice I'm always amazed that the small details

that you notice in my videos or in my live streams I'm always amazed by by

called it so I watched it last week it is an excellent movie but I don't like

clowns Thank You Randall for that yes the the new movie starring Pennywise the

clown that the picture there is not penny wise that that particular clown

you can see there is a lot more friendly so clowns are they scary are you afraid

of clowns and what is the word that means the fear of clowns what is it a

fear of clowns is called what what is it called I will let you know later on and

dunk Toba day 11 hello and good morning welcome to day 11 of 31 days of dunk

Toba how are you this morning you know some days you just have to take

it easy and do nothing really what could be better than just lazing in bed all

snuggly and warm under the duvet that wonderful cozy feeling of being in bed

is the best of all they say that sleep is the most important thing a person

needs to stay healthy and alert well I have had a busy few days so a little

lying will do me good having a lion means to stay in bed longer than you

normally would sleep those little slices of death how I loathe them that is a

quote by the playwright Edgar Allan Poe he was not a big fan of sleep as it

reminded him of his own mortality some people have difficulty sleeping

they find themselves lying wide awake right through the night and the more

they try to get to sleep the harder it becomes this condition is called

insomnia there are many reasons why a person might have insomnia the most

common one being stress and anxiety it is very hard to relax when you are under

pressure you feel restless and troubled your mind will not quiet him if

untreated the long-term effects of insomnia will eventually creep into your

daytime activities there are many words for sleep you take a doze you have a Kip

you slumber you go to the Land of Nod you are in dreamland you are out like a

light a short light sleep can be described as 40 winks a nap you take a

nap you grab 40 winks if you have had a good

sleep then you can say that you slept like a log if you got off to sleep

quickly then you can say I went out like a light let's be honest sharing a bed

with someone and snuggling up to them is the best feeling in the world but it can

also be the most annoying especially if your partner snores how annoying is that

sound very the ironic thing is that the person doing the snoring gets the sleep

while the one who has to listen to the terrible racket gets little or no sleep

at all another annoyance that can occur in a

shared bed is when you get someone who fidgets lying next to you their arms and

legs constantly move and twitch if you combine the snoring and the fidgeting

then you might have to think about separate beds or separate rooms or

perhaps even separate lives and favor so many videos 31 days

towba do you ever dream while sleeping I do my dreams tend to occur when I'm in a

very deep sleep sometimes I have many dreams one after the other the strange

thing about dreams even the most clear and vivid ones is that the next morning

they rapidly fade from your memory do you have dreams what do you dream about

do you ever have bad dreams or nightmares I do but fortunately not very

believe I can't believe it to be honest I still find it amazing that I've been

for you for the past 11 years I can't believe it we were talking about licking

your teeth is it socially acceptable to pick your teeth because apparently here

in the UK you can't do it anymore it is no longer socially acceptable in the

past you could you could sit at the dinner table in a restaurant and you

could pick your teeth using a little toothpick but nowadays you can't people

don't like it they say it's rude and dirty

franceska says well mr. Duncan picking your teeth is not so socially acceptable

especially among young people I think so but there are still old people who

always who always pick their teeth after lunch

weekend when I go to town maybe I will take my own toothpick maybe I will make

one myself and then after the meal I will sit there picking my teeth and all

to mention because because I have it on good authority I've heard that you this

shoulders with celebrities a big Hollywood movie star and let's just say

this particular movie star can cast a spell over people see what I did there

so so this week a big a big Hollywood movie star ladies and gentlemen this

week mr. Steve was having evening dinner with Harry Potter himself Daniel

Radcliffe well Daniel Radcliffe mr. Steve was sitting

actually sitting down at the dinner table they were talking and maybe they

were picking their teeth is well I'm not sure around that but yes so mr. Steve

what was it like what was it like sitting with Daniel Radcliffe Harry

Potter himself tell tell us all about it well I've got to be honest with you here

mr. Duncan um he was in the hotel yeah but I didn't actually come into contact

with him somebody told me they saw him in the hotel so I'm very perfectly

honest here I did not talk to him I didn't even seem I certainly wasn't

rubbing shoulders with him so he was in the hotel but sadly probably in an

exclusive part of the hotel that I wasn't staying in this only reserved for

stars and I'm only I'm obviously a minor star and I wasn't even despite the fact

I've got my sunglasses with me and I was wearing all the time I could have been

mistaken for a star but sadly I wasn't and I never actually came to contact

with him so it's a bit of a non-story really so let it see Tom Jones once in

in in an airport let me get this right mr. Steve you didn't meet Harry Potter

no no he was in the hotel that's the closest I've ever come to a star apart

from Tom Jones he passed me in an airport does anyone know who Tom Jones

is and does anyone care Tom Jones the famous singer who's been going for since

probably the early 60s I would say and he's still going now famous British

singer powerful voice Tom Jones it's not unusual yes okay it certainly is unusual

sometimes it's very unusual why-why-why Delilah why indeed reversing

it I ask myself that question many times well I can outdo you you've met Tom

Jones I have met also met a big celebrity I've met Elspeth

Valentine there I am look way back in 1989 that's me believe it or not that is

actually me on the right honestly that is me when I was 24 years old and there

Elspeth ballantine yeah so there I I think that beats Tom Jones to be honest

well yes she was a big star in her time and what show was she in she was in many

shows many Australian movies and also a very famous TV show that was set in a

women's prison called prisoner cell block 8 I remember that that was a good

show it was a compulsive viewing a soap opera if you remember we used to sort of

set the video record every single day to make sure that we didn't miss a single

episode of prisoner cell block 8 Judah thought that a soap opera set in a

woman's prison would be compulsive viewing but it was very lucrative but

they've remade it now it's now called Wentworth so Wentworth is just a remake

of prisoner cellblock H so that is now a current TV show called right went

Wentworth there won't be as good as the original they never are okay so you're

looking a bit annoyed today is there is there a reason why you are looking

Steve I am going to do a psychic reading a psychic reading so we need we need

psychics well I've never let's put it this way I'm not saying that it's all

rubbish but I've never experienced it where it's you know somebody's done a

psychic was right but it probably would have happened anyway I mean they don't

ever say to you at ten past four you're going to fall down the stairs or

something there's never specific it's always very vague yes very very vague

things that could apply to many people do you know what they call that they

call it a cold reading a cold reading so a cold reading is when you just go up to

a person and you you are supposed to to know things about them without knowing

who they are or any information about them so it's called a cold reading so so

some people are very skeptical of the the the the clairvoyance and the

psychics and the mediums that's another expression you can use

medium as well psychic so what are you going to why why do you want to do a

psychic reading I just imagine we'll have a go cuz apparently my great

grandmother my great grandmother had the gift she did she had the power of

psychicness she was

psychic she wants and and people in the neighborhood used to come to my great

grandmother's house and she would sit with them at a table and she would read

their hands and she would read the cards and she had this crystal ball a large

crystal ball and and this this is the story that I was told about my great

grandmother I don't know if it's true because I never saw it for myself

I was only very little at the time I was just a little baby but apparently she

used to take the crystal ball she used to take it in her hand and then the

crystal ball would go up her arm and over her shoulders and then down the

other hand so it would go from this hand to this hand on its own sounds very

scary to me and there are people who witness this the nays they said even my

mother my mother told me this story you see she said your great grandmother she

she had some strange abilities and she used to do this and people would come to

the house and sometimes the windows would open on their own they would

suddenly open and the curtains would blow they would move by themselves

sounds a bit scary so what I want to find out is if I if I have a little bit

of this if I have some of the the psychicness in my gene but you know a

lot about me anyway so that's going to be interesting if you come up with

something new mmm I think so so here we go

ago with a clown in it that went around murdering people

that story has just been released in the cinemas called it and it's a killer

clown a killer clown if somebody makes a program about a

clown and turns them into a murderer then people are probably going to be

afraid of clowns there's a pretty good chance that you're going to be afraid of

clowns yes I think so yes sir so if you show a clown and doing horrible things

some people might be afraid of clowns I think it's similar services I think it's

similar to somebody wearing a mask I think with somebody a clown has got lots

of makeup on so the expressions are a mask they've got a funny wig on so you

can't really tell what they're like underneath so it's the same as somebody

wearing a mask in a way so I think maybe a bit of fear comes from that is fear

the unknown something a bit different that's my theory so the fear of clowns

fads if somebody says to me if I read in a magazine that something is good for me

I'm a sucker for that and I'll often try it out pomegranate juice is supposed to

be full of antioxidants like blueberries that's another one or prunes and that's

supposed to keep you young that's the idea behind it the problem with prunes

if you eat too many prunes youuuu let out a lot of a lot of gas not on this

show no I just hold it in until it goes up into my stomach and then he goes yeah

you ought to your hey mr. Duncan after this show he's been holding in a lot of

gas for two hours and believe me it all comes out right I literally fly around

the room like a whoopie cushion I'm holding you and all all the gas you

see you can see its stomach now it's inflating okay I think we've suitably

lowered the tone yes Tommy granite pomegranate juice is what I've been

drinking this week a lot of it and as a result of that I am now full of energy

of course it's not that it's the six cups of coffee I had before I came on I

think so so we can we can officially say now that you didn't actually meet Harry

Potter star Daniel Radcliffe you didn't I didn't he was in the hotel somebody

saw him from the party I was with but I didn't actually meet him I don't know

what I would have said to him anyway I'm not a particular fan but I don't think

I've ever watched a Harry Potter but Harry Harry Potter Harry Potter though

that's a very different movie Harry Potter that is that's a very different

movie I must have must have poof on the brain

again again we've got down to poop everybody we we made it we made it

one hour 25 minutes we made it that far without saying poop do you think people

know do you know what a potty year do you think people know what that is potty

is is what a baby does it's poop and pee pee into so when a baby is learning

not an actual baby of course nada not a baby but but an infant so when an infant

is learning to use the toilet they sit on a little potty yes

going to give you the names of the sounds I'm just reaching over to get the

pieces of paper I've spent I spent many hours this morning preparing this so I

an animal makes right and maybe we can even do the sound as well if it's

anything like your horn impression we're in trouble

animal or animals because it might be more than one animal so what animal will

bleat that would be a lamb I believe that right a baby sheep a lamb yes but

there's this not just not just not just a baby lamb baby horse baby horse baby

porcupine any baby anything baby anything you're saying baby anything

okay so bleat bleat is an a sound that's made this is going well so far isn't it

in the grass as I was walking around this golf course for some exercise you

but it was in the rough grass so anybody who went to Bagshot hotel this week

played golf and lost a golf ball I've got it so once again mr. Steve mustard
