And when you have control.

So I suppose if you are driving a car, you are controlling the car.

an aeroplane, you are in control.

I'm always fascinated by the fact

that the thing you hold onto when you're flying a plane,

if you are flying an aeroplane, it is called a joystick.

We went out last night to do something

and they are actually house martins.

There are hundreds of house martins,

small birds that often nest

on or near people's houses.

And you might notice behind me right now they are flying all around.

They are actually feeding they are feeding on the flies.

So they normally fly around and whilst they are flying,

they will eat the flies that are in the air.

So you might notice behind me there are lots of birds

swooping around and they are the lovely house martins

which I am always glad to see here today.

We are talking about travel as well

because we are thinking of doing some travelling.

Sadly, we won't be going abroad.

We're not going to a foreign place overseas.

However, we might be going somewhere around

this country, maybe somewhere in England.

We were thinking of going to the south of England,

visiting somewhere around there, and I had the amazing thought

of travelling by train.

And I have to be honest with you, I haven't used the railway, I haven't used to train

for a very long time, so I thought it would be fun for us to go travelling by train.

However, when I went to the train website

for all of the tickets and the available services,

I was rather shocked to find out how expensive

it is to use a train

to travel by train around the country.

For example, where I live now

and it is a fairly rural area in the countryside

and I suppose I'm around 160, maybe 155

or 160 miles away from London.

However, in the past I used to travel to London

and it would only cost around about 20

or 25 or maybe £30.

The other day

I happened to look, I checked the price

and can you believe it? £100

to travel to London by train, which I thought was rather expensive.

So I have to be honest with you, I was

I was rather surprised to find out how expensive it is

to travel by train around the country.

I have to be honest, it was a bit of a shock, to be honest with you.

And if we want to travel to the south coast of England,

it was £147 for each person

to travel to the south coast of England by train.

Of course, that is also with the return as well.

So you are returning with the same ticket.

But I was I was I was a little surprised to find out

just how expensive travelling by train actually is.

So I suppose a good question in a few moments might be

have you ever travelled by train recently?

Is it an expensive way to travel?

Because it would appear that here in the UK

it is definitely a very expensive

form of transport, I think. So

And I am, of course, not working,

not today, although I am working hard in the kitchen. Yes.

So when you talk about working, you can be doing a sort of small job around the house

or of course, you can be in some sort of employment as well.

But Mr.

Steve is no longer in employment at the moment.

He's now taking it easy,

taking it easy, although it doesn't feel like it, because today I am making dams right there.

Oh, okay.

Then that was the next thing I was going to say. Right?

Okay. Was nice.

So this is what Steve has been wearing over the past couple of weeks.

As he was preparing to finish his work,

his job was coming to a close and you were going around.

2022 because I was saying goodbye to all my customers and Mr.

So I was too scared to wear this with customers

in case it created a bad impression, because I wanted to leave with a good impression.

farewell tour as he was preparing to say goodbye to his job.

So the joke is that's what rock stars do. Yes.

When they're about to finish their careers, they go on a farewell tour.

That's it.

And I did that, went to see all my customers that I've known for 20 something years.

Many of them, many of them more than 30 is in fact.

Yes, there was one particular customer I've known her for 33 years.

That's incredible.

I know in the job that I do, which was sales.

And so I was going on a fair it was a joke at work that I was. Yes.

Doing a tour of my customers.

I think, I think we, we realised that it was a joke.

Well just explaining it in case people aren't sure.

So even though Steve has finished his working

as well as it as in his career, he hasn't stopped doing this.

and we were very busy last night.

But here is a clue to what we were doing last night.

We were sneaking around the streets last night.

We were looking for

the elusive dams and

it's that time of year again, Steve, isn't it?

The only problem is we don't have any on our tree this year,

so we had to go around the streets, didn't we?

So that's our tree from probably last year

and this year, because I had it pruned,

cut back.

There were no dams this year because it didn't like that.

So it didn't create any dams.

And for as much because this area is well known for dams and growing,

you know, back in its heydays probably 50 years ago

or something, there are lots of dams and trees

growing wild in the area and you can just go and pick the wild dams.

And which is what we did is incredible.

And I'm going to make approximately

30 jars

of dams and jam straight after I've come off live stream.

Yeah, but we did have to do something.

Maybe, perhaps that may have been slightly

illegal or naughty.

We were taking some dams runs from certain places.

But as you said, you were right what you said yesterday, because I was worried

that maybe someone would call the police, but

those Amazons would just go to waste.

They would just go to waste.

They are effectively growing in the wild.

That's, let's just say, on walkways, pathways

leading to various beauty spots in this area and and sometimes people's property.

I mean, just it's not my fault if I wander into somebody's garden by mistake. Yes.

Which we didn't do.

It's very easy to get lost at night. It is.

There is lots of common ground, as they call it, in this area.

Common ground.

So that's areas of ground where anyone can go

a bit like a park, but not and there are dams and trees growing there.

And so we went out, but we didn't want to be seen.

So it was sort of dusk.

And as soon as a car came, we scuttled into the bushes so that people couldn't see us just in case

we were in trouble and shouldn't be doing it, even though it was perfectly all right.

But you know what?

What happens sometimes people people think you are doing something

wrong or illegal, even if you're not well.

They are slightly bitter, but I add less sugar so that it's healthier.

So today we are looking at being in control,

having control over things.

Sometimes it is hard to have control or to keep control.

Maybe if you are driving along the road and suddenly something runs out in front of you,

you might lose control of your car,

which means that suddenly the car is now driving by itself.

It is doing its own thing.

Maybe you are trying to move out of the way

or to avoid something in the road.

You might lose control.

So the word control can be used in many ways.

A lot of live chatters are here.

we are looking at control words and phrases.

We often say that a person is in control.

To be in control of something.

You can be in control of a vehicle,

you can be in control of a situation.

Something that is happening can be something

that you have control over.

You are in control.

We might say that you are in charge.

A person who is in charge

is a person who decides what happens.

Perhaps they are a manager or a supervisor to be in charge.

Maybe you are placed in charge.

So maybe normally you you are not in your control.

But perhaps someone has asked if you can be in charge.

So sometimes it is possible to do that

to take over from another person.

Normally, temporarily, for a short time

you might hold command to command.

Something is also to control.

You are giving orders, you are giving instructions,

you hold command.

We often say that the person will hold a certain position,

maybe a manager, as I mentioned

a few moments ago, or a supervisor.

You have control over a certain thing.

You have command.

Of course, the word command can often be used to show

that a person is telling someone what to do.

You will command someone to do something.

You are telling them to do something

to have authority.

This is a subject we talked about a few days ago, in fact,

on one of our other live streams, talking about authority,

being in control so quite often

when a person has authority, they are in control

to be at the helm.

So think of a person who is in

control of a boat or a large ship.

You are at the helm.

You are at the controls.

You are deciding which way or where

the boat or the ship will go.

You are steering the ship.

You are in control,

which just happens to be a phrase that we use in English.

So when a person is steering the ship,

it means they are in control.

Maybe a person is in authority, they are a manager,

they are steering the ship.

So we use this figuratively.

So this not being used literally,

this is being used figuratively.

So if a person is steering the ship,

it means they are in control.

They are the person who decides what happens.

They can tell people what to do because they are steering the ship.

There is another phrase we can use.

You can be sitting in the driver's seat as well.

You are in control.

Here's another one.

If you are in control, you are calling the shots.

To be calling the shots means that you are deciding what happens.

You are in control.

You are calling the shots

to take control of something.

So maybe another person has control.

But you come along and you decide that you want to be in control.

So you take control.

That means you are taking the control away from another person

you seise control.

So if you take something, we can use the word seise

to take to Seise control.

To take control, to assume command.

So maybe if you are taking over from another person,

we can say that you assume command

and you take over from another person,

maybe a manager retires.

So you take over, you assume control,

that person says goodbye and you become the new manager.

You assume command to take over

to overthrow.

Now this is something that is normally done without consent.

So normally if you overthrow Rowe, it means you take control

normally by force.

So you will take control from a manager

or maybe a group of people on a board.

If they are the directors of a company,

you might push all of those people out of the company you overthrow.

You take control of that thing.

That company

quite often.

If a if a country has a revolution

of some sort and we know in history there have been many revolutions

and of course quite a few have taken place more recently as well.

To overthrow is to take control.

If you take control well, it means you over throw, you might push out,

you might remove a person

who is in charge or in control.

You might overthrow a government

or some other type of authority.

You overthrow

rebel or rebel.

So this is a word that can be pronounced in more than one way.

A rebel is a person

who resists control or will push against authority,

but also as a verb to rebel

means to push against authority.

So a person who is doing it is a rebel.

The action is a rebel.

You push against the authority,

you resist against control.

You push against the authority,

that is to say, a rebel rebels against authority.

So a rebel is the noun, and they do that thing.

It names the action of forcing someone out,

someone that is normally in power.

You are taking control.

You push against authority.

We might describe it as a rebellion.

So when we talk about rebellions, we often mean

one group of people take control of something else

they push against, and then they eventually take over.

We call it a rebellion.

You push back against a government.

It is a phrase that is used quite often nowadays.

Oh, here's an interesting one.

This is a little bit of French for you.

If you like French, this is just for you.

Coup d'etat,

a seizure of control.

You are taking away control from a government,

a group of people that are in charge.

You take over, you seise control.

So very, very similar to what I said earlier.

When you take over from someone, you have a rebellion against someone.

We can often describe a political rebellion

as a coup d'etat or a seizure of control.

And this can take place illegally

or by force.

So by that I mean quite often you can push out a government that you don't want,

but you do it illegally but without violence.

However, also quite often a coup d'etat

takes place with force.

Quite often violence is used,

it is involved in the situation.

So to be in command is to be in control.

When we say that the person is in control,

it, they have the authority,

or maybe they are in charge of a certain thing.

They are in command and they are in control.

They have complete control over something.

As I said earlier, you can be in control of a thing,

a vehicle, a situation or even yourself as well.

We often use the term self control,

so a person who has to hold back

or resist doing something,

you have to have self control.

So when we talk about self-control, maybe in a situation where you want to eat

lots of food, maybe you want eat something unhealthy,

perhaps you are following a diet of some sort.

So you have to try and stay healthy.

But sometimes

maybe you open the refrigerator

and there is a big cake in the well, maybe

you see a bar of chocolate, but you have to stop yourself,

have to keep your self control,

you have to keep your control.

So quite often we use the term self control

when we are holding ourselves back from doing

something that might cause harm.

Quite often we will have to show self control.

So there are quite a lot of words that we can use

when we are talking about being in control.

A person might have control over a certain group of people,

maybe in a certain type of job,
