But maybe it is a little bit too early.

by talking about spring because we still have a few more weeks of winter

and then spring will slowly arrive already in the garden.

The daffodils are starting to come up.

But very soon as the weather gets better and the days become longer,

things will improve.

So I'm really looking forward to it.

I don't know why, but this year, even though

we've had a fairly mild winter

and a rather dry winter, I would say that

An old fashioned camera?

You open the back and you put the film inside

and then you close the box and you take your pictures

and then you send them away.

You send them off to be processed.

And it normally takes around about two

or maybe three weeks to be processed.

So you could go to you could go and get them done, like in a few hours.

You paid a bit extra for that suit.

But I'm all about genuinely, genuinely, you'd have to wait for a long time to get.

But nowadays, nowadays you can just use your phone, take a picture

and see the photograph just a few seconds later and it's amazing.

But we used to have to when we used to take photographs in the 1980s,

we would take the pictures and then we would have to send the film away

to be processed and that would take

normally around 14 or 15 days.

And then you would get your photographs back and you would be really excited to see them.

There used to be that little folder and inside you knew that

those photographs were in there when you couldn't wait to see them and.

Then when you get them out, quite often

you would feel a little bit disappointed

because a lot of them would be out of focus or too bright.

Or maybe the person

had their

eyes closed like this.

Yes, well, I don't think I think I would think that knowing a lot of people

watching as a sort of similar age to us, probably do remember that.

I would think we've got obviously a lot of young people watching as well.

But I was talking to a friend of mine the other day

in one of my music societies that I'm in, and she's 25. Wow.

And she said that she cannot now relate properly to

younger teenagers.

It's like that ten year gap now is so great that she said.

I can't relate to what they're talking about and she's only 25.

So I said to her, Imagine the problems I'll have relating to them, whereas I could relate to her.

She said she can still remember a time when there weren't mobile phones around.

So that just shows you how quickly technology, particularly phones, has advanced. Yes.

So we think of 1996 and we think of that as being for us, it's

well, it's it's not that long ago, but for some people it's probably before they were even born.

And that that is a very sobering thought.

So we can remember when the first mobile

phones were introduced and they were huge.

They were like giant house bricks.

And then people started having them in the car, didn't they?

Car phones. In fact, you had one.

I know I felt really trendy. That was probably

that was about through, I would say, about 26 years ago.

Well, it was it was a I can tell you when it was when I started with that,

you know, yes, I can tell you when it was I can tell you exactly when it was.

It was actually something.

1991.

1991 is when you got your car phone. Right.

You had a Ford Mondeo and inside it had a phone.

And I was absolutely blown away.

and then you walk around listening to the music in the streets.

Oh, my goodness cassette tape. I used to love cassettes.

I still use them, actually.

Still use cassettes because if I want to record something and then edit it later,

maybe I want to change it a bit.

Then a cassette is still quite useful for recording bits of dialogue

that I want to memorise and then later on you see the trouble with recording

something on your phone is you can you can only record that bit at that time.

You can't then go back and add something else to it.

So you end up with lots of separate recordings and then you can't put them together.

Yeah.

Whereas if you've got a cassette tape, I can record a bit of dialogue one day, then a song

the next, and then go back and correct it and you can edit on the phone.

Can you edit what you can the sound.

Well, now you can see you don't have to worry anymore.

called National Lampoon, and that's where he originally started as an editor.

And then later he started writing other things.

But he got comedians involved with the writing.

And that's where people like Chevy Chase

and John Belushi came into being.

And then from there, they started making movies.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

But this is called Eat the Rich.

It's it's a very good book, very famous book.

after not doing it for a long time?

Well, this is something we did talk about recently. Yes.

And we talked about reading and how it can be a thing

that can help you to understand English if you are learning English

or maybe you can read and then write what you are reading.

So that's another good way of doing it.

But I would say if you are going to start reading again,

read something short.

Now I know that sounds obvious, but it might not be obvious to everyone,

so read something short, something with maybe

50 or 60 pages, something that has maybe a brief description

of a certain subject or something that you are interested in.

So start with something short.

Don't don't pick up a huge book with hundreds of pages

and countless chapters because you won't finish it.

I can guarantee you won't finish it.

In fact, I think the book you've got there, Steve

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, is quite short.

Quite sure. That is a very good example.

Apparently, according to Tomic, it's good

to read the biography of Hunter Thompson.

So a might might look at that after I finish the book.

If I don't enjoy it, I won't read his autobiography.

If I do enjoy it, I'll read his autobiography.

to their level instead of coming down thinking of the people.

I think of all the people we know.

which sounds to the average person that sounds like a very simple thing.

You just look at some tires, you go, those tires are very nice

and I will buy those and have them fitted to my car.

Well, you would normally just go along to a tire specialist.

Quick fit is a common one here and they would say, yes,

your tires had worn down to the legal limit.

And you would say, well, what you know what, You either replace them with just the same tire.

This is just as

or you would just usually just trust their judgement.

They said, well, you can get a you can get a premium tire like a mitchell,

which would be more expensive or you can get a budget tire.

What do you want to spend, you know, two minute decision.

No, but not me, Steve. And that's a long time.

What most people do is they get in the car.

Steve, they go to a local tire place,

they whine the window down and they get they say, Hey,

mate, put some tires on this car and that's it and that's it.

The average person doesn't actually care.

However, for a mr.

Steve's world.

So in my world, yes, I have spent probably

the last week researching the best possible tires to.

Have them. So let's have a look. Show this to the camera.

So this that is a list

of all somewhere on there, the tires I've currently got on the car.

And then all of these are the potential candidates

for the tire that I could possibly put on.

And after one week's research and I found a wonderful website

that does tire tests, can you believe the tire test on YouTube?

It's fantastic.

This guy, he gets like 20 tires,

puts them on this golf, runs it round a track, all these testing conditions.

What braking, dry braking, wet handling,

aquaplaning noise, what it looks at all the different categories

that you would want in a tire and then concludes, which is the best one.

But my priority is Mr.

Duncan is not sportiness I could get a sport tire.

But the trouble with those is that they're a bit noisier, they're a bit more uncomfortable.

So I want like a touring tire, something more comfortable.

So have The disturbing thing is I can't read this.

It's like the crazy ramblings of a scientific genius.

Well, you see, you've got to know all about profile files and speed ratings

and whether you want extra load things like that.

Well,

that.

Well, that's the one I can speed ratings out of the research.

Can you go down a speed rating? No, you can't do that.

That's not safe.

Anyway, I finally made my decision, Mr.

Duncan, and it's unfortunately

going to be a mitchell in primacy for Mitchell in.

They've been making tires for years.

The trouble with a budget tires is you

that you suffer in terms of braking distance.

So you think you're getting less, you're paying less for them.

But if you had to do an emergency, stop it and some of them can take twice as long

for your car to stop.

So if you get a premium brand certificate, it's a good idea.

So you're saying that getting cheap tires is bad?

Yes, I do.

Yes, because it particularly if the weather gets wet,

which of course what we have in the UK is wet weather.

Lots of wet weather. So you want to anyway,

Why not why not promote in particular tyres.

Well yeah, it took me a lot of time to come up with this decision

which most people would have just gone to a tyre fitters

and said what times I put on and just done it, you know, they said, you know,

even if I was to buy a washing machine, I would do a similar thing.

I would go into all the tests.

I would because I don't like spending money, I don't like to.

That's the easiest.

Stomach says it's because it's fear of failure.

It's not that for me.

It's I don't like spending money unless I know I've made the right decision.

Nothing makes me feel worse than buying something.

And then I've made the wrong choice because.

Because I'm going to live with it for a long time.

Yeah, this is true, But I think do worry, though, afterwards,

whether you've made the right decision or true.

I worry about those sort of things.

But anyway, it's never going to go away.

And I don't think I've made many bad decisions over the years.
