Meaning of TO THEIR FACE and BEHIND THEIR BACK - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

When someone does something that you don't like you really have two options, three actually!

I'll tell you the third one at the end of the video.

But you really have two options.You can tell them to their face that you don't like what

they're doing.

This means that you can go right up to them, in person, and have a conversation and tell

them that they're doing something that you don't like.

Or, you can talk about it behind their back.

When you talk about someone behind their back it means that you talk to other people about

what they are doing, but you don't actually go and talk to the person about it.

So you can talk to them face to face, you can go and tell them straight to their face

that they're doing something that bothers you.

Or, you can talk about it behind their back.

But there's a third option.

My mom always used to say, "If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything

at all."

So you could just not say anything.
