Learn the English Phrases BEAR WITH ME and BEAR A GRUDGE

- In this English lesson I wanted to help you

learn the English phrase bear with me.

When you say to someone, bear with me,

you are asking them to be patient with you.

Here's a great example.

You'll notice that on this YouTube channel,

I often reply to all the comments,

but yesterday I didn't and today I didn't,

because I'm really busy because school is starting again.

So a great thing for me to say to you right now is

"I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond to all the comments.

Please bear with me because I'm very, very busy right now."

So again, when you say to someone,

please bear with me or bear with me,

it basically means please be patient, please just relax

and don't get upset.

For me in my case because I'm really busy right now.

I didn't realize how busy the start of school

was going to be.

By the way students come back next Tuesday.

But we have been in meetings all week.

So please bear with me.

I'll start responding to all comments again

in the near future

because I don't want you to bear a grudge.

When you bear a grudge, it means that

you get upset with someone and you remain upset with them.

So when you bear a grudge, it means that

maybe you and a friend got along really well.

Maybe your friend did something that you didn't like,

and now you don't like talking to your friend anymore.

And you're actually not friends

because you are bearing a grudge.

Basically, whatever your friend did has upset you so much

that now you don't want to talk to them

because you are currently bearing a grudge.

So I hope that you can please bear with me.

Please be patient.

And please be kind as I will be having trouble

responding to all comments for the next few days.

And please don't bear a grudge.

I know you won't.

I know from the comments in the past

that all of you who leave comments regularly

are super nice people.

I really appreciate the comments that you leave.

So again, please bear with me

as I go through a very busy week or two in my life.

So please be patient and please don't bear a grudge,

which means please don't be annoyed or angry

or upset with me because I'm not responding to comments.

By the way, it is one of the highlights of my day

to respond to comments on this channel.

On my bigger channel, I try to respond

to comments for the first hour or so

after a video comes out, but there are so many comments.

It's hard to keep up, but on this smaller channel,

it is kind of fun just to have a smaller group of people.

So let's look at a comment.

This comment is from Roberto and Roberto says,

"Talk the talk and walk the walk.

It reminds me of put your money where your mouth is."

And my response was "Yes, exactly.

Nice work, Roberto."

Well, thank you Roberto, for that comment.

And yes you are exactly right.

The English phrase, he needs to put his money

where his mouth is or put your money where your mouth is

means that if you are gonna say

you're gonna do a certain thing,

make sure that your actions are related to

or actually model what you have been saying.

Sorry, that sounded a little complex.

Basically, if you say you're gonna do something, do it.

Don't just talk about it,

actually go out, do it.

Hey, I'm going to spend the last minute here

just telling you a little bit more about my life.

I will be completely honest with you.

And if my boss is watching this,

I hope he doesn't I get upset.

We really aren't ready to start school here in Ontario.

We are really rushing the start of school.

Teachers are frantically trying to learn

how to do a whole bunch of new things.

We have students that will be in the classroom,

students that will be learning from home,

students that will be learning from other countries,

students that will be learning from other rooms

in the school because we don't have enough space

to socially distance everybody.

And I know that in Ontario, Canada, we're doing it badly.

I'll be honest.

I know that some of the teacher unions

feel like we should not be starting school on Tuesday.

I know that in other parts of North America,

like New York city, they actually decided to delay

the start of school by a week or two

because teachers need time to get ready.

So I'm feeling really rushed, but you know what?

I think it'll work out. We'll see.
