Meaning of YOU'VE LOST ME and I DON'T FOLLOW YOU - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

Do you ever have it

where someone is explaining something to you,

and you're just really confused?

You don't understand what they're saying.

You could, in English, say to them, "Whoa, you've lost me.

"Stop for a minute and re-explain

"what you were just explaining to me."

In English, when you say, "You've lost me,"

it doesn't mean that they've actually lost you

out somewhere in the wilderness, like behind me.

It simply means that you no longer understand

what they are telling you.

Maybe someone is telling you how to make

a certain kind of food,

and they tell you what you need to do for step one

and step two and step three and step four,

and they're going really, really quickly,

and all of a sudden, you are a little bit confused,

and you don't actually remember what they told you.

You could say, "Whoa, just a minute.

"You've lost me.

"Please back up to step four and re-explain it to me."

So when you say, "You've lost me," in English,

you're saying that you're confused

and that you don't understand what they are telling you.

We have another phrase in English, I don't follow you,

which means almost exactly the same thing.

So if someone is explaining something to you

and you're having trouble understanding

what they're telling you,

you could say, "Whoa, wait a minute.

"I don't follow you."

Basically what you're saying is, "Stop.

"Re-explain, because I am not understanding

"what you are telling me."

So in English, if you say to someone, "You've lost me,"

it means that you don't understand

what they are explaining to you,

and if you say to someone in English, "I don't follow you,"

basically you are saying the same thing.
