Meaning of THAT'S THE WAY THE COOKIE CRUMBLES - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So sometimes when you eat a cookie, it crumbles.

Little crumbs fall from the cookie and land on the floor.

And that's the way the cookie crumbles,

but that's not actually how we use this phrase in English.

We actually use this phrase when we're talking

about when things don't go the way you wanted them to.

Right now, in Canada, a lot of the leaves

are turning color and the leaves are falling off the trees.

And people will be raking their yards.

And sometimes when they rake their yards,

they get their yard all cleaned up.

And then their neighbor's leaves blow onto their yard.

And that would be a great time to say the phrase,

"Well, that's the way the cookie crumbles."

Basically, describing a situation as fairly normal,

even though that would be a little bit

of an annoying situation.

So when you bite a cookie, sometimes it crumbles,

but there are also situations in life where you can say,

"That's the way the cookie crumbles."

You won't hear this phrase a lot in English.

It's little bit of an older phrase,

but I just heard someone say it today.

came from the other day.
