Learn the English Phrases IMPULSE BUY and BUYER'S REMORSE - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in this English lesson,

I wanted to help you learn the English phrase impulse buy.

An impulse buy is when you buy something

without actually planning to buy it

or thinking about it a lot.

Probably the best example would be

when you are at the grocery store,

and as you are going through the checkout,

there are all kinds of things that they have placed there

because they hope you will make an impulse buy.

There's chocolate bars there.

There's candies there.

There are all kinds of small things right at the checkout

where you can just grab it quickly and buy it.

So we would call that an impulse buy.

So again, an impulse buy is a purchase you make on impulse.

It's not something you plan to do.

It's something you do without thinking.

A lot of times when I'm at the grocery store,

I do buy a chocolate bar on the way through the checkout.

I do make an impulse buy.

I do purchase a chocolate bar

just because it's sitting there, and I can see it,

and I want it, so I make an impulse buy,

and then there's another thing

that you can experience after that.

Sometimes when you buy something, you have buyer's remorse.

Buyer's remorse is when you buy something,

and then a day or two later, you feel bad about buying it.

So you might purchase a new computer

that you really can't afford, and you order it online,

and then you are really happy, and then a day later,

you think why did I do that?

I don't really have enough money to afford that computer,

and so you start to experience

what's called buyer's remorse.

Sometimes, people have this after they buy a car or a home.

It usually happens after you make a really large purchase,

or sometimes, it happens after you make an impulse buy.

So sometimes after I buy a chocolate bar on impulse,

I have buyer's remorse.
