But now onto homonyms.

하지만 이제는 동음이의어에 대해 알아보겠습니다.

So, these words are called homonyms.

그래서 이런 단어들을 동음이의어라고 부릅니다.

That means they have the same pronunciation or spelling,

즉, 발음이나 철자는 같지만

but they have a different meaning.

의미는 다릅니다.

For example,

'new' and 'knew'.

'새로운'과 '알았다'.

'Bat' and 'bat'.

'박쥐'와 '박쥐'.

'Park' and 'park'.

'To' and 'two'.

There are a lot of examples in English.

For example, the word 'saw' has a lot of meanings.

There's 'soar', the verb that means fly like a bird or a ball through the sky.

There's 'saw', the past tense of the verb 'see',

and there's 'sore', the adjective, like pain.

pain과 같은 형용사인 'sore'가 있습니다.

So when we have 'is sore', the meaning can only be pain,

따라서 'is sore'가 있을 때는 '아프다'는 의미밖에 없습니다.

because 'sore' is an adjective.

왜냐하면 'sore'는 형용사이기 때문입니다.

Here, the verb 'is' before it.

And how about 'is soaring'? Well, there,

it's a verb in the present continuous form.

There are lots of homonyms in English, so learn some and practise using them.
