English Vocabulary: Pedestrian

Hi, everybody. My name is Esther.

And in this video, I'm going to  talk about the word ‘pedestrian’. 

E neste vídeo, vou falar sobre a palavra 'pedestre'.

Now, I think this is a really important  word for all Koreans to know because there  

Agora, acho que esta é uma palavra muito importante para todos os coreanos saberem, porque

are many pedestrians in Korea. Well, what is a pedestrian? 

há muitos pedestres na Coreia. Bem, o que é um pedestre?

A pedestrian is somebody who is walking. They might be walking on the street. 

Um pedestre é alguém que está andando. Eles podem estar andando na rua.

Or on the sidewalk where all  the stores and restaurants are. 

Ou na calçada onde estão todas as lojas e restaurantes.

The sidewalk or pedestrians might be  crossing the street on a crosswalk. 

A calçada ou os pedestres podem estar atravessando a rua na faixa de pedestres.

That's the section with the white lines where you  have to go if you want to go to the other side. 

Essa é a seção com as linhas brancas onde você deve ir se quiser ir para o outro lado.

So let's look at these example sentences. “Don't hit the pedestrian.” 

Então, vamos ver essas frases de exemplo. “Não bata no pedestre.”

Okay. So in Korea there are  

OK. Portanto, na Coreia há

very many cars and drivers and they have to be  careful not to hit the people that are walking. 

muitos carros e motoristas e eles precisam ter cuidado para não atingir as pessoas que estão andando.

The pedestrians. So don't hit the pedestrian. 

Os pedestres. Portanto, não bata no pedestre.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk. Again, the crosswalk is where the white lines are. 

O pedestre atravessa a faixa de pedestres. Novamente, a faixa de pedestres é onde estão as linhas brancas.

You have to walk there if you  want to go to the other side. 

Você tem que caminhar até lá se quiser ir para o outro lado.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk. The last example is there are  

O pedestre atravessa a faixa de pedestres. O último exemplo é que há

many pedestrians on the sidewalk. Remember, ‘sidewalk’ is the area next to the  

muitos pedestres na calçada. Lembre-se, 'calçada' é a área ao lado da

street where pedestrians should walk. It's safer, right? 

rua por onde os pedestres devem caminhar. É mais seguro, certo?

So there are many pedestrians on the sidewalk. Okay. 

Portanto, há muitos pedestres na calçada. OK.

And so that's how we use ‘pedestrian’. Remember, it means somebody who's walking. 

E é assim que usamos 'pedestre'. Lembre-se, significa alguém que está andando.
