English Vocabulary: Pedestrian

Hi, everybody. My name is Esther. 

안녕하세요 여러분. 제 이름은 에스더입니다.

And in this video, I'm going to  talk about the word ‘pedestrian’. 

그리고 이번 영상에서는 '보행자'라는 단어에 대해 이야기해보려 합니다.

Now, I think this is a really important  word for all Koreans to know because there  

이제 한국에는 보행자가 많기 때문에 모든 한국인이 알아야 할 정말 중요한 단어라고 생각합니다

are many pedestrians in Korea. Well, what is a pedestrian? 

. 글쎄, 보행자는 무엇입니까?

A pedestrian is somebody who is walking. They might be walking on the street. 

보행자는 걷는 사람입니다. 그들은 길을 걷고 있을지도 모릅니다.

Or on the sidewalk where all  the stores and restaurants are. 

또는 모든 상점과 레스토랑이 있는 보도에서.

The sidewalk or pedestrians might be  crossing the street on a crosswalk. 

보도나 보행자가 횡단보도로 길을 건너고 있을 수 있습니다. 반대편으로 가려면 가야 하는

That's the section with the white lines where you  have to go if you want to go to the other side. 

흰색 선이 있는 섹션입니다 .

So let's look at these example sentences. “Don't hit the pedestrian.” 

그럼 이 예문들을 봅시다. "보행자를 때리지 마세요."

Okay. So in Korea there are  

좋아요. 그래서 한국에는

very many cars and drivers and they have to be  careful not to hit the people that are walking. 

차량과 운전자가 매우 많고 그들은 걷는 사람들을 치지 않도록 조심해야 합니다.

The pedestrians. So don't hit the pedestrian. 

보행자. 그러니 보행자를 때리지 마세요.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk. Again, the crosswalk is where the white lines are. 

보행자가 횡단보도를 건넙니다. 다시 말하지만 흰색 선이 있는 곳은 횡단보도입니다.

You have to walk there if you  want to go to the other side. 

반대편으로 가려면 거기까지 걸어가야 합니다.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk. The last example is there are  

보행자가 횡단보도를 건넙니다. 마지막 예는

many pedestrians on the sidewalk. Remember, ‘sidewalk’ is the area next to the  

보도에 보행자가 많다는 것입니다. 기억하세요, '보도'는

street where pedestrians should walk. It's safer, right? 

보행자가 걸어야 하는 거리 옆의 영역입니다. 더 안전하죠?

So there are many pedestrians on the sidewalk. Okay. 

그래서 보도에 보행자가 많습니다. 좋아요.

And so that's how we use ‘pedestrian’. Remember, it means somebody who's walking. 

그래서 우리는 '보행자'를 사용합니다. 기억하세요, 그것은 걷고 있는 누군가를 의미합니다.
