English Phrasal Verbs: Mess Up and Sort Out

Hey, what's up everyone. Chad here from RealLife English and today I have another kickass video

lesson for you guys. So you all probably all know that phrasal verbs are very, very important

for achieving English fluency, and they are a huge pain in the butt to learn and remember,

but no need to worry because I am going to take that pain away from your butt and help

you understand all the most common, the most used phrasal verbs in the English language.

I'm not going to be teaching you them all at once, that's why I am making this series,

this series for phrasal verbs, remember subscribe to these videos and you'll get them as soon

as I release them. But, there is a special way that I am going to be teaching these phrasal

verbs and if you want to understand more about that, and how you can really take advantage

Ok, so today's two phrasal verbs that I will be teaching you are to...

So first lets understand the phrasal verb, mess up. Or first let's understand mess. Mess

to mess, to make a mess, is to leave your things very disorganized, to mess your room

up. This comes from the adjective messy, a messy bedroom. Maybe a childs bedroom is often

very very messy. Messi is also a famous Argentinian soccer player, but he's not going to be relevant

in this video.

To mess up in this case is the action to make a mess. I messed up the room if I was to mess

up my hair, make it all disorganized. Mess up can also mean to make a mistake, I messed

up on that exam, I messed up with that girl, I messed up at my job, it means you made a

big error, you commited a mistake, you messed something up. And when you pronounce mess

in the past, it just takes on a 'T' sound. I mess(t) up.

Man, I really messed things up at work. Man, I really messed stuff up with that girl. And also

we have the phrasal verb to sort out. Sort can be used as a noun, it means a type of

something, some kind of something. What sort of food do you eat in your country? What kind

of food. What sort of beer do you like? Or, whatever.

But in this case to sort something out would mean to resolve the problem. Or, fix whatever

went wrong. In this case if you had a problem in your relationship you might want to try

to sort things out, sort your relationship out, sort your life out, it's to resolve all

the problems, and fix whatever is broken, fix whatever is not working.

Now, it's time to use both of those phrasal verbs on one phrase, and this is really going

to help you memorise the two phrasal verbs. If you don't remember anything from this video,

except for this phrase I am about to say, then you will have learned these two phrasal

verbs. So today's phrase you have to remember is...
