English Speaking Practice for Daily Use (Public Transport) Improve Speaking Skills

excuse me sir excuse me I'm new  here and I need to get to work  

this is my first time taking public  transport in this city I'm kind of

lost could you help me understand how to do  it please if you have some time of course

of course I'd be happy to help  first things first do you know  

where you're heading I mean which bus  or train do you need to take do you

know let's see uh all right I  need to get to an office on Main

Street I was told I should take the  number seven boss but I'm not really  

sure where to start oh Main Street yes the  number seven boss will take you there and  

but you need to buy a ticket before you  board the bus do you see that kiosk over

there which one oh the one over  there yes I see it how do I buy a

ticket just go to the kiosk select single  ride if you're only making one trip or you  

can choose a daily or weekly pass  if you're planning to use the boss

open the machine takes both cash and cards  after you've ped it print out a small ticket for

you okay got it so I'll just buy  the ticket and then wait for the  

bus right that's right you want to check  the bus's schedule to make sure you're on

time there's usually a schedule posted at  the bus's STP it shows what time the bus

arrives the number seven should come  every 15 minutes during rush hour remember

that what if I'm not sure which direction the  bus is going I don't want to end up going the  

wrong way that's a good question make sure  you're standing on the correct side of the

street facing that direction you want to  go the bus stop sign usually shows the

route and the final destination if you're  unsure you can always ask the driver before  

you get on Just say something like is this  boss going to Main Street they are usually very

helpful and one someon the bus do I  need to do anything with my ticket I  

don't know actually yeah when you get on  the bus there's a small machine near the

driver you'll need to insert your ticket  into it this machine will make a small

noise and then the driver will know you've  bet if you have a pass just show it to the  

driver as you board I see what about when I  get close to my stop how do I make sure the  

bus stops for me there are bottoms on the poles  inside the bus when you're getting close to your

stop just press one of those the bus will  stop at the next stop and you can get off  

if you're not sure where to get off you can ask  the driver to let you know when you're near Main

Street oh I see that's really  helpful thank you so much really

oh one last thing what if I need to  ask for directions or need help what  

should I say if you're lost or need  directions you can ask someone nearby  

just say excuse me can you help me I'm  trying to get to and then say the place

most people here are friendly and  will help you out on the bus you can

say could you please let me know when  we are near Main Street that's good

too people will understand that you need  assistance I am sure they are going to help you

this is a lot to remember but I think  I've got it but a ticket check the  

schedule what else oh ask if I'm not sure  and press the button when I need to get

off that's it I really appreciate your  help I was feeling a bit overwhelmed

don't worry you'll get the hang of it  quickly everyone feels a little lost the  

first time but soon enough you'll  be riding the bus like a pro I am

sure I hope so I guess I should go  buy my ticket now it's getting late

bed okay I think I understand and just to be  sure this ticket is only good for one ride  

right I'll need to buy another ticket for the  trip back I'm sorry but I don't know how this

works yes that's correct if you're only making a  oneway trip now you can purchase another ticket

later however if you think you'll be  making sever trips today or in the coming

days a daily or weekly pass might  save you some money it's really

helpful a daily pass is $5 and gives  you unlimited rights for the entire

day I see I'll keep that in  mind for for the future for

sure I'm still getting used to the idea  of taking the bass everywhere back home

I didn't miss it should I ask the driver I  think I'm getting close to Main Street but

bit worried I'm new to the city and I'm trying to  get to Main Street have we passed it already or  

is it still coming up hello no need to worry  my friend we haven't reached Main Street yet  

it's a few stops ahead you're on the right bus  and I'll make sure to let you know when we are  

getting close thank you so much I was starting  to get a bit anxious I'm not used to public

transport especially in a big city like this  back home everything is much smaller and I  

usually drove everywhere I understand it can  be a bit overwhelming at first but but you'll  

get the hang of it riding the bus has its spks  you get to relax avoid traffic and sometimes  

even have interesting conversations with other  passengers plus you don't have to worry about

parking that's true I hadn't thought about it  that way I guess I'm just not used to relying  

on someone else to get me where I need to  go I'm always in control when I'm driving  

but here I'm just along for the ride  it's a different experience for sure  

but it's also a chance to see the city  in a new light you can take in the sides  

listen to some music or even catch up  some reading while you're in the bus

and you'll save money on gas and  parking fees which is always a plus it's

useful that's true and it's nice not having  to deal with the stress of driving especially  

in a city I'm not familiar with oh and by the  way are we getting close to Main Street please

yes we are in fact your stop is the next  one coming up you'll want to get ready  

to disembark oh just press the button  on the poer and the bus will stop for
