Improve ENGLISH Speaking Skills with Listening and Shadowing English Conversation Practice

good morning excuse me do you know  where the Human Resources office

is morning yes I just came from  there it's next to the conference

room oh you just came out of the interview  right how did it go was it difficult

yeah I just finished it was  okay I guess the questions were

tough but I think I managed to give  decent answers I have a good feeling about

this that's good to hear I am also here  for the interview I'm Alex by the way

nice to meet you Alex I'm Mark so are you

nervous a little this is my first big  interview so I don't really know what to

expect don't worry too much what you  have to do is just be confident and

honest what's your background  did you study for this

position well I didn't go to college but  I've been working in this field for five

years I started as an intern  then worked my way up what about

you oh I went to University I  studied business management for four

years um so we're coming from  two totally different sites

huh yeah it seems like it well we know that it  is very important to have a University degree um  

maybe but look a University degree is great and

all but it's just Theory  experience teaches you the real

skills I've dealt with actual clients solve  real problems and I know how the industry

works the thing is that but you can't  learn that from books that's real

life I get your point but a degree  shows that you've put in the effort to

learn and specialize in something plus it opens

doors some companies won't even consider  you if you don't have a degree that's the

truth that's true for some jobs but not  all look at people like Steve Jobs or  

Mark suckerberg they didn't need a degree to  succeed it's about what you can do not what's on

paper yeah but not everyone  is Steve Jobs those are

exceptions for most people a degree is  a safety net it shows commitment and

discipline sure but it also puts you in debt  for years you spend money instead of earning

it not only that some sometimes you  have to ask for a loan to study in the

University meanwhile I was earning money and  gaining experience while people well still in

college that's a valid point but don't  you think University teaches you more  

than just the subject because it also helps  you Network think critically and develop soft

skills um maybe but I've  built my own network through

work and sof skills you develop those  when you deal with co-workers and

clients true but what if the  the job requires technical

knowledge like Financial modeling or Advanced  analytics that's where a degree comes in

handy I see your point but nowadays  you can learn almost anything

online you don't need a professor to  teach you there are tutorials courses and

forums well that's fair but a  degree is still a recognized

qualification it's proof that  you've been trained in something

plus you can't learn everything on  internet you need a professor to guide you

sometimes it makes it easier to realize  when you're making a mistake it's way

better maybe but when it comes  down to it employers want

results they don't care where you  learned your skills as long as you can

deliver so you think I wasted my time going to

University not at all I respect  that you studied hard that's

good but I do think experience is more  Val iable in the long run that's the

truth are you sure you're not more  nervous than you thought you look

worried maybe a bit it's just  that I know this job is a big

opportunity to be honest if I don't get  it I'll feel like oh my hard work was for

nothing I get that but don't  put so much pressure on

yourself you've got a solid background in this  field just focus on showing them what you can

do thanks Mark and honestly I  respect what you've done too

seriously starting for years and  committing to a degree isn't easy I think

so thanks Alex well I also have to be honest with

you sometimes I do wonder if I should  have worked instead of going to

University for years is a long time it  was very hard for me I had to study a  

lot and it was tiring um do you ever feel  like you're missing practical experience

though definitely that's why I took  some internship ships during my

studies they helped me connect Theory to practice  but still it's not the same as real world

experience for me it's been all  about hands on work I've had to  

learn on the job solve problems on the  Fly and figure things out without much

guidance that's impressive you've built a  lot of resilience which is important in any

job thanks man but let's be real  there's not perfect path that's the

truth the truth is that I would  have really liked to go to

university I could have liked to have a  University degree unfortunately I couldn't  

study I had to work to get money quickly  because I had no other option I had to do  

it and when I wanted to study I felt too  old to try and I also felt like I wasn't  

smart enough but that's not a problem  you can start now it's never too late to

study besides you already have the  experience you only need the degree  

it will be easier for you you're right I  suppose both pads have their advantages and

disadvantages I would like to know your opinion  is experience or University degree better I hope
