We are going to go shopping today.

우리는 오늘 쇼핑을 갈 것입니다.

We are in Bangkok’s busiest and most popular district, Siam.

우리는 방콕에서 가장 번잡 하고 가장 인기 있는 지역인 시암에 있습니다.

In fact, Siam was the old name of our country

사실 시암은 1939년 태국으로 바뀌기 전 우리나라의 옛 이름이었습니다.

before it was changed to Thailand in 1939.

So this is Siam Square where we are right now.

그래서 이곳이 바로 지금 우리가 있는 시암 스퀘어입니다.

Siam is known as the central business district of Bangkok.

시암은 방콕의 중심 비즈니스 지구로 알려져 있습니다.

It is home to hundreds of cafés and restaurants.

수백 개의 카페와 레스토랑이 있는 곳입니다. 고급 백화점뿐만 아니라 많은 상점이 있어

It is also renowned for shopping

쇼핑으로도 유명합니다

because there are plenty of shops as well as

posh department stores.

The word posh means expensive and of high quality.

포쉬라는 단어는 비싸고 품질이 좋다는 뜻입니다.

I don’t look posh today.

오늘은 고급스러워 보이지 않습니다.

Right, let’s go shopping.

그래, 쇼핑하러 가자.

So here we are in the heart of Siam Square.

그래서 여기 우리는 시암 스퀘어의 중심에 있습니다 .

Siam Square also consists of many alleyways,

시암스퀘어 역시 많은 골목길로 구성되어

and along each alley you can find a wide range of things,

있고 각 골목을 따라 다양한 물건,

everything you could think of.

생각할 수 있는 모든 것을 찾을 수 있습니다.

So if you are fashion-conscious, this is the place to go.

따라서 유행에 민감하다면 이곳을 방문해야 합니다.

If you are fashion-conscious, Siam Square is the place to go.

The word fashion-conscious means

유행에 민감하다는 말은

interested in the latest fashions and in wearing

최신 유행에 관심을 갖고

fashionable clothes.

유행하는 옷을 입는 것을 의미합니다.

I don’t think I’m fashion-conscious at all.

유행에 전혀 민감하지 않은 것 같아요.

As I have mentioned before, Siam is a really busy area,

so you can see many people walking around

and shopping around.

쇼핑하는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

If you shop around,

여기저기서 쇼핑을 한다는 것은 어떤 것을 살지 결정하기 전에 여러 상점에서

it means you compare the price and quality of the same

동일하거나 유사한 물건의 가격과 품질을 비교하는 것을 의미합니다

or a similar object in different shops

before you decide which one to buy.

Siam is a place

시암은

where people come to hang out after work or on the weekend.

사람들이 퇴근 후나 주말에 놀러 오는 곳입니다.

This makes Siam very vibrant.

이것은 시암을 매우 활기차게 만듭니다.

But let’s get away from the crowds.

그러나 군중에서 벗어나자.

I’m thirsty now, I need something to drink.

나는 지금 목이 마르고 마실 것이 필요합니다.

Come on.

어서 해봐요.

So now, we’ve just arrived in my favourite place in Siam.

이제 막 시암에서 제가 가장 좋아하는 장소에 도착했습니다.

It’s called WWA Café.

WWA 카페라고 합니다.

I need to change my glasses, I can’t see properly.

안경을 바꿔야 하는데 앞이 잘 안 보여요.

Right, this place is like an oasis.

맞아, 이곳은 오아시스 같은 곳이야.

Usually, the word oasis refers to a place in a desert

보통 오아시스라는 말은 물이 있는 사막의 한 곳을 의미하는데

where there’s water,

,

but here it means a calm and pleasant place

여기서는 분주 하고 불쾌한 곳 한가운데 있는 조용하고 즐거운 곳을 의미합니다

in the middle of somewhere busy and unpleasant.

So this place is like an oasis.

그래서 이곳은 오아시스 같은 곳이다.

The reason why I like it here is

이곳을 좋아하는 이유는 바깥의 번잡함에서 벗어나 휴식을

because not only can I have a break from the hustle

취할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 새 옷을

and bustle outside,

but I can also shop for my new outfits.

쇼핑할 수도 있기 때문입니다 .

Ooh, this shirt looks amazing.

오, 이 셔츠 정말 멋져요. 저에게

I think it suits me well.

잘 맞는 것 같아요.

If something suits you,

어떤 것이 당신에게 어울리면

it is right for you and it makes you look more attractive.

그것은 당신에게 적합하고 당신을 더 매력적으로 보이게 합니다.

I have to try this on.

Okay, you’re not allowed to see me in the fitting room.

Once you’re in this place it’s

like you’re not in Siam Square anymore,

it’s so calm and serene.

Oh, there is a drawback though.

아 그런데 단점이 있습니다.

You know what that is?

그게 뭔지 알아?

You can’t really find a bargain in this shop.

이 가게에서 정말 할인을 찾을 수 없습니다.

A bargain means something

흥정이란

that is on sale at a lower price than its true value.

실제 가치보다 낮은 가격으로 판매되는 것을 의미합니다.
