Meet our guest presenter LoukGolf | Learn English with Cambridge

Hi, everyone.

Allow me to introduce myself really quickly.

My name is Kanatip Soonthornrak.

You can simply call me LoukGolf,

which is my nickname.

The first fun fact about Thailand is

that almost every type of person has a nickname.

A word here,

which means an informal name for someone or something,

especially a name

that you are called by your friends or family,

usually based on your real name or your character.

Our real names are used for formal occasions.

Even though I’m proud of my real name,

my close friends never call me Kanatip.

I was named LoukGolf because of my little, round head as a baby.

LoukGolf means golf ball.

Next time you meet a Thai person,

you can ask them how they got their nickname.

I am an English teacher based in Bangkok, Thailand.

No matter where you are watching this video,

I am so delighted to talk to you,

to share my teaching tips,

and to show you a little bit of my beloved country.

I’m so overjoyed to be a guest presenter

on Learn English with Cambridge,

and before I take you around Bangkok,

I want to give you a tour of my language school Angkriz.

This is it, ta da.

So, this is our reception.

My two lovely assistants are willing to help you

with any information about the school.

The word willing here means to be happy

to do something if it is needed.

Hi, are you willing to help the students?

Yes.

Ooh.

So, this is the first classroom.

Do you like it?

Hmm, smells good.

All right, follow me.

This is the second classroom.

And this is the third classroom,

which is also the biggest.

Uh, huh.

Welcome.

I like teaching

in this classroom because it’s so cosy,

a word here,

which means comfortable and pleasant, especially

of a building because of being small and warm.

The animals on this wall represent the diversity

of our students.

We have a duck,

we have a sloth, a sloth, we have cat, we have an owl,

we have a rhinoceros,

and we have a hare,

we have a dog, we have a meerkat,

we also have an octopus, okay.

And I also have a runway, so this is my runway.

I walk on this runway almost every day.

See, every day is a runway.

And this is my office.

Well, it’s a little bit messy today,

so you’re not allowed to see my office today.

Maybe next time.

I love to be in this building

because it’s so gorgeous

and I really want to show you want you can do

on this floor apart from learn English with me.

If you’re fond of dancing, that dance studio is for you.

Can you see that?

People are dancing now, yes.

Go there, if you are fond of dancing.

You can also work out in the gym.

There’s a gym.

It’s not ready yet, but it will be soon.

There’s a gym right there.

If you love sweating, you know,

if you like to sweat, go there.

What else?

Ooh, you can go boxing, okay.

You can also appreciate art.

I told you,

I love this building because it’s so gorgeous.

What else can we do on this floor?

You can buy tickets for,

you know, lots and lots of major events in Bangkok,

and stationery.

Stationery, there.

So, basically, we have everything on this floor,

and also, there are plenty of incredible restaurants above us.

There, you go there, if you’re hungry.

If you’re hungry,

you are peckish, you are starving,

you go up and eat.

And this floor also has me.

You know, people love taking pictures with me,

I don’t know why.

And that’s all for today.
