We all know someone who has a test coming up,

हम सब किसी को जानते हैं जिनका कोई इम्तिहान आने वाला है।

and there are different kinds of tests in life.

ज़िंदगी में कई तरह के इम्तिहान होते हैं।

In this English lesson, I will teach you

आज की कक्षा में मैं आपको अंग्रेज़ी के ऐसे चार वाक्य सिखाऊँगा जिन्हें आप

four English phrases that you can use

to say something to someone

किसी से उनके आनेवाले इम्तिहान के पहले कह सकते हैं

who maybe has a test coming up like an English test,

or maybe they have a test coming up

या तब जब किसी की अस्पताल में कोई जाँच होने वाली हो।

like a test at a hospital.

So, stick around and I'll teach you

four English phrases so you know

जो आप ऐसे समय पर इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं।

what to say in those situations.

that you can use to be able to say something

nice to someone before they go

and write a test like an English test,

or maybe go to a hospital for tests

या तब जब किसी की अस्पताल में कोई जाँच होने वाली हो।

because maybe there is something wrong with their body.

The first English phrase that I want to teach you

पहला वाक्य जो मैं आपको सिखाना चाहता हूँ वो है

is "I wish you all the best"

"I wish you all the best"

or, there's a shorter form, "all the best."

या इसका छोटा रूप, "All the best."

We would use this phrase for someone

हम इसका इस्तेमाल तब कर सकते हैं जब कोई

if they were going in for a medical test.

अपना मेडिकल टैस्ट कराने जा रहा हो।

By the way, I just had a medical test

कल मेरे दिल का मेडिकल टैस्ट हुआ था।

done yesterday on my heart.

I had an angiogram,

मेरा ऐंजियोग्राम हुआ था। सब कुछ ठीक लग रहा है। ये अच्छी बात है

and it looks like everything is looking good,

so that's nice.

But, if you had known that earlier in the week,

लेकिन अगर आपको ये बात पहले से पता होती

you might say to me,

तो शायद आप मुझसे कहते,

"Hey Bob, I wish you all the best

"Hey Bob, I wish you all the best

on your test on Monday"

on your test on Monday"

or you might say,

या फिर,

"Hey, Bob, all the best on your test on Monday."

"Hey Bob, all the best on your test on Monday."

And that would just be a really nice way

मुझे हौसला देने के लिये आप ऐसा कह सकते थे।

to encourage me and make me realize that people

इससे मुझे मालूम होता कि टैस्ट के दौरान लोग मेरे बारे में सोच रहे हैं।

are going to be thinking about me

while I go through that test.

So, you could say, "I wish you all the best"

आप कह सकते हैं, "I wish you all the best"

or, the shorter version of it, "all the best."

या इसका छोटा रूप, "All the best."

The second phrase that I wanna teach you

दूसरा वाक्य जो मैं आपको सिखाना चाहता हूँ वो है,

in this English lesson is the phrase,

"I hope things go well."

"I hope things go well."

You could also say "I hope everything goes well."

आप "I hope everything goes well" भी कह सकते हैं।

This would be a great phrase to say to someone

ऐसा कहना तब सही रहेगा जब किसी का ड्राइविंग टैस्ट होने वाला हो।

who you know is going to do their driver's test.

Maybe you have a friend or family member

हो सकता आपका कोई दोस्त या परिवारवाला है जिनको अपना ड्राइविंग लाइसैंस चाहिये

that wants to get their driver's license,

and you know that the next day,

और आपको पता है कि अगले दिन वो अपने ड्राइविंग टैस्ट के लिये जा रहे हैं।

they sre going for their driver's test.

A great thing to say to them would be,

उनसे ये कहना सही रहेगा,

"I hope things go well during your test tomorrow"

"I hope things go well during your test tomorrow"

or you could you say, "I hope everything goes well

या आप ये भी कह सकते हैं, "I hope everything goes well during your driver's test tomorrow."

during your driver's test tomorrow."

That would just be a really nice thing to say to someone

ऐसा किसी से कहना बहुत ही अच्छा होता है

because what it does, is it communicates to them

क्योंकि आप किसी से ये ज़ाहिर कर सकते हैं कि

once again, that you are thinking about them,

आप उनके बारे में सोच रहे हैं और आपको उनकी फ़िक्र है।

that you care about them, and that your genuine hope

आपको ये उम्मीद है कि वो अपने आनेवाले इम्तिहान में अच्छा करें।

is that they do well on the test

that they are going to do the next day.

So, for me, I hope for you that things

मैं ये उम्मीद करूँगा कि आप अच्छा करें जब भी अंग्रेज़ी सीखें।

go well everyday while you're studying English.

So, that was the second phrase that you can use in English.

तो ये था दूसरा वाक्य जिसका इस्तेमाल आप अंग्रेज़ी में कर सकते हैं।

You can say to someone, "I hope things go well" or,

आप किसी से कह सकते हैं, "I hope things go well"

"I hope everything goes well."

या "I hope everything goes well."

The third phrase that I want to teach you today is,

तीसरा वाक्य जो मैं आज आपको सिखाना चाहता हूँ वो है,

"good luck" or "best of luck."

"good luck" या "best of luck."

You might have heard the first phrase before.

आपने पहला वाला वाक्य शायद पहले सुना हो।

We say "good luck" to people a lot in English

हम अंग्रेज़ी में लोगों से "good luck" अक्सर कहते हैं।

and a more formal version of it would be to say

इसका थोड़ा और औपचारिक रूप है "Best of luck."

"best of luck."

This would be a great thing to say to someone

ऐसा आप तब कह सकते हैं जब किसी का स्कूल में कोई क्विज़ हो

if you are in school and you have a little quiz

or a little test that day in whatever subject

या फिर किसी विषय का इम्तिहान हो।

you are studying.

You might say to your friend,

आप अपने दोस्त से कह सकते हैं,

"good luck on your test today"

"Good luck on your test today"

or you might say, "best of luck on your test today."

या फिर, "Best of luck on your test today."

Basically, you are wishing them luck.

इसका मतलब है कि आप उनको शुभकामनाएँ दे रहे हैं।

Hopefully they've studied a lot.

उम्मीद है कि उन्होंने ख़ूब पढ़ाई की होगी।

Hopefully luck or chance doesn't factor in

उम्मीद है किस्मत उनके इम्तिहान पर उतना दख़्ल न दे

as much as you would think it would.

जितना आप सोच रहे हैं।

Hopefully, they are really prepared for the test or quiz

उम्मीद है उन्होंने अपने इम्तिहान या क्विज़ के लिये बहुत अच्छे से तैयारी की होगी

but you still might say to them

लेकिन आप फिर भी उनसे कह सकते हैं,

"hey, good luck on your test today."

"Hey, good luck on your test today."

Or, "best of luck on your test today."

या, "Best of luck on your test today."

Again, just wishing them well and letting them know

इसका मतलब है कि आपको उनको शुभकामनाएँ दे रहे हैं और

that you're hoping that they do well

उम्मीद कर रहे हैं कि वो अपने आनेवाले इम्तिहान में अच्छा करें।

on the test that they're going to do.

So, I hope that you guys have good luck

मुझे उम्मीद है कि जब आप अंग्रेज़ी पढ़ें तो आपकी किस्मत आपका साथ दे।

when you're studying English and I wish you best of luck

मैं आपको अपनी शुभकामनाएँ देता हूँ।

as you continue to study English this year.

The fourth phrase is a phrase that you would use

चौथा वाक्य वो है जो धार्मिक लोग इस्तेमाल करते हैं।

if you are a religious person.

So, let's say you are going into the hospital for a surgery.

चलिये मान लेते हैं कि कोई सर्जरी के लिये अस्पताल जा रहा है।

That's something really really serious,

ये बहुत ही गंभीर स्थिति है।

you certainly wouldn't want to say,

आप ऐसी स्थिति में "Good luck with your surgery" नहीं कहना चाहेंगे।

"good luck with your surgery."

That's a little too light hearted,

ये थोड़ा अजीब लगेगा।

but religious people sometimes will say,

धार्मिक लोग ऐसी स्थिति में कह सकते हैं, "I will be praying for you."

"I will be praying for you."

So, basically they are a religious person

इसका मतलब है कि वे धार्मिक व्यक्ति हैं।

and they engage in the act of prayer,

वे प्रार्थना कर रहे हैं।

many religious people pray.

धार्मिक लोग प्रार्थना करते हैं।

And they are saying to you,

वे आपसे कह रहे हैं कि

you are going in for something serious,

ऐसी गंभीर स्थिति में आपको सामर्थ्य देने के लिये वे आपके लिये प्रार्थना करेंगे।

what I will do to support you is I will pray for you.

So, that's the fourth phrase.

तो ये है चौथा वाक्य।

Even in Canada, people who are not religious

कनाडा में अक्सर जो लोग धार्मिक नहीं भी है वे भी इस वाक्य का इस्तेमाल कभी-कभी करते हैं।

will sometimes say this phrase,

especially if someone is having something serious

ख़ासकर कि तब जब कोई आनेवाले समय में किसी गंभीर स्थिति से गुज़रने वाला हो।

done the next day or later that week.

They might say, "our prayers will be with you"

वे कह सकते हैं, "Our prayers will be with you"

or, "I will be praying for you."

या, "I will be praying for you."

So, that's the fourth way to encourage someone

तो ये है चौथा वाक्य जिसका इस्तेमाल आप किसी को हौसला देने के लिये कर सकते हैं

or to say something nice to them before they have a test

या किसी के इम्तिहान से पहले शुभकामनाएँ देने के लिये कर सकते हैं

or before they have something major, like a surgery.

या तब कर सकते हैं जब कोई किसी के साथ कुछ गंभीर होनेवाला हो, जैसे कि सर्जरी।

"I will be praying for you."

"I will be praying for you."

Another phrase very similar to "I'll be praying for you"

"I'll be praying for you" के जैसा एक और वाक्य है

is something that's used by non religious people

जो ग़ैर-धार्मिक लोग इस्तेमाल करते हैं

and that's the phrase,

और वो है,

"I'll be thinking of you."

"I'll be thinking of you."

So, they'll directly tell you that when you are going

इसका मतलब है कि जब आप किसी मुश्किल घड़ी से गुज़र रहे होंगे तब वो आपके बारे में सोचेंगे।

through with whatever serious thing is happening

they will be thinking about you during that time.

So, they'll kind of in their minds be thinking of you

वो आपका ख़्याल करेंगे जब आप उस मुश्किल घड़ी से गुज़र रहे होंगे।

at the same time you are doing that stressful thing or

experiencing that stressful thing.

And that is another way that they will show their support.

किसी को ऐसा कहकर हम दिलासा दे सकते हैं।

So, they might say, "I'll be praying for you"

आप कह सकते हैं, "I'll be praying for you"

or, they might say "I'll be thinking of you."

या फिर, "I'll be thinking of you."

The fifth thing you could say to someone

पाँचवाँ वाक्य जिसका आप इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं जब

as they head into a test or some other

किसी का कोई इम्तिहान आनेवाला हो या कोई किसी मुश्किल घड़ी से गुज़र रहा हो।

stressful situation is you could say,

तब आप कह सकते हैं, "Oh, I'm sure things will go fine."

"Oh, I'm sure things will go fine."

This is probably the lightest most light hearted way

ये किसी को दिलासा दिलाने का शायद सबसे हल्का-फुल्का तरीक़ा है

of letting someone know that you

are thinking about them when they go through something

that might be a little bit challenging.

जब कोई थोड़ी बहुत मुश्किल से गुज़र रहा हो।

Whenever my son has a test at school

जब मेरे बेटे का स्कूल में कोई इम्तिहान होता है और अगर वो उसको लेकर बहुत फ़िक्रमंद हो

and if he is really stressed about it,

often times Jen and I will say the night before,

तब मैं और जैन इम्तिहान से पहले उससे अक्सर कहते हैं,

"just study hard, I'm sure things will go fine,

"Just study hard. I'm sure thing will go fine.

I'm sure things will go really really well for you

I'm sure things will go really really well for you

tomorrow when you write that test."

tomorrow when you write that test."

So, it doesn't necessarily make the person

ज़रूरी नहीं है कि ऐसा कहने से उनकी चिंता कम हो जाए

more relaxed but it does let them know

लेकिन उन्हें मालूम जो जाता है कि

that someone else is thinking about them

कोई उनके बारे में सोच रहा है

as they study for and as they go through something

जब वो किसी कठिनाई से गुज़रें, जैसे कि कोई इम्तिहान।

that is difficult like a test.

So, I'm sure things will be fine for all of you

तो मैं भी उम्मीद करता हूँ कि आपका ये हफ़्ता अच्छा गुज़रेगा।

as you go through this week as well.

Well, hey, that was five things

तो ये थे पाँच वाक्य

that you can say to someone before they have

जिनका इस्तेमाल आप किसी से उनके इम्तिहान से पहले कर सकते हैं

something like a test at school

or before they have maybe a test at a hospital,

या अस्पताल में किसी गंभीर जाँच से पहले।

a serious medical test.

I think that these are very helpful phrases.

मुझे लगता ये वाक्य बहुत ही मददगार हैं।

They are very common English phrases.

ये वाक्य अंग्रेज़ी में बहुत आम हैं।

So, generally when I teach an English lesson to you,

आमतौर पर जब मैं आपको अंग्रेज़ी में कुछ सिखाता हूँ,

I look for the things that I would say as a

तो मैं वो वाक्य चुनता हूँ जो एक अंग्रेज़ी ज़बानी होने के नाते मैं ख़ुद इस्तेमाल करूँगा

native English speaker and these are all sentences

और ये सारे वाक्य वही हैं जिनका मैं ख़ुद अंग्रेज़ी बोलते वक़्त इस्तेमाल करता हूँ।

and phrases that I have said and do regularly say

when I am speaking English.
