Have Yet to Do & Have Yet to Be Done - Formal English Grammar

Look at the structure I just used. I have yet  to cover modals of certainty. Have yet to cover.

What does that mean? In this lesson, we'll talk  about "have yet to do" and "have yet to be done."

Che cosa significa? In questa lezione parleremo di "deve ancora fare" e "deve ancora essere fatto".

A negative verb in the present perfect  allows us to express what we expect to do,  

Un verbo negativo al present perfect ci consente di esprimere ciò che ci aspettiamo di fare,

but haven't done yet. I haven't made  a video on modals of certainty yet.

ma non abbiamo ancora fatto. Non ho ancora realizzato un video sui modali della certezza.

I haven't taught that grammar point yet.

Non ho ancora insegnato quel punto di grammatica.

We haven't studied that together yet.

Non l'abbiamo ancora studiato insieme.

Okay. These sentences are what I'd say  in everyday English. I can restate these  

Va bene. Queste frasi sono ciò che direi nell'inglese di tutti i giorni. Posso ribadire queste

ideas using infinitives, and I'm also going to  change the position of the adverb "yet." Watch.

idee usando gli infiniti, e cambierò anche la posizione dell'avverbio "ancora". Orologio.

I have yet to make a video on modals of certainty.

Devo ancora fare un video sui modali della certezza.

I have yet to teach that grammar point.

Devo ancora insegnare quel punto di grammatica.

Do you see the pattern? First of  all, I don't use any contractions.  

Vedi lo schema? Prima di tutto, non utilizzo alcuna contrazione.

This is formal English, and I use "yet"  immediately after the helping verb.

Questo è l'inglese formale e uso "yet" subito dopo il verbo ausiliare.

Try this last one on your own.

Prova quest'ultimo da solo.

We have yet to study that together.

Dobbiamo ancora studiarlo insieme.

Get it? We can also use this  pattern with passive verbs.  

Prendilo? Possiamo usare questo modello anche con i verbi passivi.

It works well in official announcements. Look.

Funziona bene negli annunci ufficiali. Aspetto.

The next topic hasn't been decided yet.

Il prossimo argomento non è stato ancora deciso. Lo

I'm going to change that to: The  next topic has yet to be decided.

cambierò in: Il prossimo argomento deve ancora essere deciso.

Again, I avoid contractions. "Yet" follows  the helping verb. The passive infinitive  

Di nuovo, evito le contrazioni. "Yet" segue il verbo ausiliare. L'infinito passivo

is "to be" + the past participle.

è "essere" + il participio passato.

The filming location has yet to be determined.

You can have fun with this structure. It's  formal and perfect for moments of inspiration.

I have yet to conquer this  mountain, but one day I will.

Before we end, I'll share one variation  with the verb "be." The best is yet to come.

In this sentence, it's not about doing something  or making something happen. It's more about  

In questa frase, non si tratta di fare qualcosa o di far accadere qualcosa. Si tratta più di

waiting for it to happen or anticipating that  it will happen one day. The best is yet to come.

aspettare che accada o anticipare che accadrà un giorno. Il meglio deve ancora venire.
