Well, it's not hyperbole, because remember,  spelling and pronunciation are not the same.

In English, you cannot learn  pronunciation from the spelling.

영어에서는 철자법으로 발음을 배울 수 없습니다.

So this isn't hyperbole.

It's hyperbole.

Hyperbole.

So listen to that syllable.

Hyperbole is a way of speaking  where you make exaggerated claims,

If you've ever said I didn't sleep at all  last night, of course that's just hyperbole.

I slept for three hours.

Our next word.

This is one that I didn't know how  to pronounce when I first saw it.

처음 봤을 때 어떻게 발음해야 할지 몰랐던 단어입니다.

Do you know how to say this?

이것을 어떻게 말하는지 아시나요?

When I first saw it, I said Quay Quay.

처음 봤을 때 퀘이 퀘이(Quay Quay)라고 했어요.

But it isn't.

하지만 그렇지 않습니다.

There's no qua sound in it.

그 안에는 아무런 소리도 없습니다.

It's simply key.

그것은 단순히 핵심입니다.

Key.

열쇠.

Like a key to your house.

So that one's easy.

Now what is a key?

It's a stone structure, and boats are tied to it  so they can load and unload goods and passengers.

Well, it's not segue.

It's segue segue.

So the syllable stress is on segue, segue.

Now I said this is an important  communications technique.

and then someone asks a question and  the question is about expense reports.

The presenter could say that questions a great  segue to our next slide on filing reports.

The question act as a way to transition  from one topic to another topic.

A lot of native speakers have  no idea how to pronounce this

because it isn't a word of English origin.

So they'll say a Kai or a si, but that's not it.

그래서 카이(Kai)나 시(Si)라고 부르겠지만 그게 다가 아니다.

It's Asayi asayi repeatant asayi.

아사이 아사이 반복 아사이입니다.

Now this is a Berry,  

이제 이것은 베리입니다.

a Berry from Brazil that's very popular  in North America for its health effects.

건강에 좋은 효과로 북미에서 매우 인기가 높은 브라질산 베리입니다.

A lot of restaurants and cafes serve this  Berry commonly in smoothies or breakfast.

So you might say I'll have a  smoothie with acai and pineapple.

MMM Yum.

That sounds delicious.

음 냠냠.

맛있을 것 같네요.

And acai berries are a total scam.

그리고 아사이베리는 완전 사기입니다.

How about this one?

이건 어때?

Every time I see the spelling, it confuses me.

맞춤법 볼 때마다 헷갈리네요.

So I have to think about how it's spelled  phonetically, because it's not Colonel.

그래서 Colonel이 아니기 때문에 철자를 어떻게 발음해야 하는지 생각해야 합니다 .

Colonel.

대령.

It's Colonel Colonel.

대령입니다.

Repeat that, Colonel.

반복하세요, 대령님.

And of course, a Colonel is a position, a  high-ranking position in the Army or the military.

그리고 물론 대령은 육군이나 군대에서 고위직에 해당하는 직위입니다.

But when I hear Colonel, I always  think of Colonel Sanders from KFC.

하지만 Colonel이라는 말을 들으면 항상 KFC의 Colonel Sanders가 생각납니다.

Did you know that Colonel Sanders  founded KFC when he was 62 years old?

샌더스 대령이 62세에 KFC를 설립했다는 사실을 알고 계셨나요? 정말

Isn't that incredible?

And it just goes to show that it's  never too late to start our next word.

Sometimes native speakers and students confuse  this syllable stress and they say artisanal,  

때때로 원어민과 학생들이 이 음절 강세를 혼동하여 장인적이라고 말하고

and they put the syllable stress  on zone, which isn't correct.

음절 강세를 구역에 두는 경우가 있는데 이는 올바르지 않습니다.

The correct pronunciation is artisanal,  tisanal, that's the syllable stress.

올바른 발음은 artisanal, tisanal, 즉 음절 강세입니다.

Artisanal.

Now artisanal represents goods  that are made in a traditional

way by someone who is skilled with their hands.

I always think of bakeries that  sell artisanal bread, for example.

Our next word.

This is one that is debated by native speakers  because some native speakers add an extra  

원어민은

syllable and they say realtor, realtor, and  they say it with three syllables realtor,  

음절을 추가하여 부동산업자, 부동산업자라고 말하고

when in fact it's two syllables, realtor, realtor.

실제로는 2음절인 부동산업자, 부동산업자인 3음절 부동산업자로 말하기 때문에 원어민들이 논쟁을 벌이는 문제입니다.

So if you hear a native speaker say realtor, just  know that that's an alternative pronunciation.

따라서 원어민이 realtor라고 말하는 것을 들으면, 그것이 대체 발음이라는 것을 알아두십시오.

But some people get really annoyed  by it, some native speakers.

하지만 일부 사람들은 그것에 대해 정말 짜증을 냅니다 . 일부 원어민은요.

So stick to two syllables because that's the  correct way, and say realtor, repeat realtor.

And of course, a realtor is someone  who sells your home for you,

This is something that I eat  frequently as part of my diet.

Many native speakers have no idea how to say this.

I've heard some funny pronunciations like  quinoa, quinoa, but it's actually quinoa, quinoa.

So that emphasis on Keene quinoa.

Now quinoa is a grain and you can  cook it very similar to rice and

This is another one that really annoys some native

speakers when all their native  speakers pronounce it incorrectly.

Do you know what the issue is?

Some native speakers will say it with an X sound,  espresso, espresso, espresso, espresso, espresso.

And it really bothers some other native speakers  who know it should be espresso with an S sound.

Now, As for me, I don't like espresso.

I find it's too strong.

But I love cappuccinos, which is espresso  with some steamed milk, our next word.

하지만 저는 에스프레소에 스팀 우유를 곁들인 카푸치노를 좋아합니다 .

This is also one that I frequently  don't know how to pronounce.

이것은 제가 자주 발음하는 방법을 모르는 것이기도 합니다.

When I see the spelling of it and it confuses  me and I forget the actual pronunciation when  

철자를 보고 헷갈리고 실제 발음도 잊어버릴 때

I see the spelling, I want to say  Peony Peony, but it's Peony Peony.

철자를 보면 Peony Peony라고 말하고 싶은데 Peony Peony입니다.

So emphasis on that Peony.

그래서 그 모란을 강조합니다.

Repeat that Peony.

그 모란을 반복하세요.

Now, if you didn't know, Peony  is a beautiful flowering plant.

자, 모르셨다면 모란은 아름다운 꽃 피는 식물입니다.

I have 3 peonies in my garden.

내 정원에는 모란 3개가 있습니다.

I love watching them bloom in early summer.

나는 초여름에 꽃이 피는 것을 보는 것을 좋아합니다.

I have two white peonies and  one pink Peony, our next word.

흰 모란 두 개와 다음 단어인 분홍색 모란 한 개가 있습니다.

This is another one where native speakers commonly  add an extra syllable when it's not needed.

And technically it's incorrect.

It's incorrect pronunciation, so native speakers

Now this is an important  one for language learners.

Verbiage is language that is unnecessarily

complicated and contains a  lot of unnecessary words.

So this is a negative thing and it's  used to criticize a communicator.

Someone might complain and say  his explanation contains so much

technical verbiage that I couldn't understand it.

Our next word, one I hear many different  pronunciations of for native speakers.

I hear almond, al, but it's not al.

It's al, almond, almond.

알, 아몬드, 아몬드입니다.

And the emphasis is on that al almond.

Repeat that almond.

And of course an almond is a type of nut.

In North America right now is  very popular to offer almond

milk as an alternative to dairy to cow's milk.
