I said I got a lot on my plate now.

지금 내 접시에 많은 것이 있다고 말했습니다.

Got a native speakers  pronounce this as gotta gotta.

원어민이 이것을 got got으로 발음합니다.

I gotta.

내가 해.

I got a lot on my plate.

내 접시에 많은 것이 있습니다.

The expression is to have a lot on one's plate.

그 표현은 자신의 접시에 많은 것을 가지고 있다는 것입니다.

It's very common.

매우 흔한 일입니다.

When you have a lot on your  plate, it means you're very busy.

일이 많다는 것은 매우 바쁘다는 뜻입니다.

You have many different tasks to complete.

완료해야 할 다양한 작업이 있습니다.

Now notice in my spoken expression, I used got.

이제 내 말투를 보면, 내가 사용했던 표현이 있습니다.

I got a lot on my plate.

내 접시에 많은 것이 있습니다.

I got a lot on my plate because native  speakers commonly replace have with  

원어민이 일반적으로

got in spoken English in a casual, informal way.

영어를 캐주얼하고 비공식적으로 대체했기 때문에 많은 것을 얻었습니다.

But in written English or more formal,  professional English, it's best to use have.

하지만 서면 영어나 좀 더 형식적이고 전문적인 영어에서는 have를 사용하는 것이 가장 좋습니다.

So let's see some examples.

그럼 몇 가지 예를 살펴보겠습니다.

I could say give the project to Isabel.

Isabel에게 프로젝트를 맡긴다고 말할 수 있어요.

Amar already has a lot on his plate.

Amar는 이미 그의 접시에 많은 것을 가지고 있습니다.

Now of course our verb is have, so you need to  conjugate it with the subject and time reference.

물론 동사는 have이므로 주어 및 시간 참조와 활용해야 합니다.

In this case Amar, third person singular.

이 경우에는 Amar가 3인칭 단수입니다.

Amar has in the present simple.

Amar는 현재 단순합니다.

And notice Amar has a lot on his plate because  the expression requires A possessive his plate.

그리고 Amar는 그의 접시에 많은 것을 가지고 있다는 것을 주목하세요. 그 표현에는 A 소유격 그의 접시가 필요하기 때문입니다. 과거에 바빴던 때를

We also use this expression to talk  about a time we were busy in the past.

말할 때도 이 표현을 사용합니다 .

So you have to conjugate that verb.

그래서 그 동사를 활용해야합니다.

We had a lot on our plate  because the subject is we.

주제가 우리이기 때문에 우리는 많은 일을 했습니다.

So now I need our plate.

이제 우리 접시가 필요해요.

And then you can use a past simple time  reference last week with the conference.

I got a lot on my plate right now I.

Just got a lot on my plate.

I said.

나는 말했다.

I'm thinking of taking up, sewing.

나는 바느질을 할 생각이에요.

Take up is our phrasal verb, and notice  I pronounced it as one taking up taking  

Take up은 구동사이며,

up because the preposition belongs to the verb.

전치사가 동사에 속하기 때문에 Take up으로 발음했습니다.

Native speakers may drop that taking that G  sound and it sounds more like taken taken.

원어민이 G 사운드를 취하는 것을 중단할 수 있으며, 이는 Take Take와 더 비슷하게 들립니다.

But then you have to connect the  preposition taken up, taken up.

하지만 그런 다음에는 전치사를 취함, 취함을 연결해야 합니다.

I'm thinking of taken up sewing.

재봉을 할 생각이에요.

You may hear that.

당신은 그것을들을 수 있습니다.

And did you get sewing?

Because of course the  pronunciation is the same as sew.

There's no sewing though, adding an ING.

바느질은 없고 ING만 추가됩니다.

So sewing is the activity, but the  pronunciation is the same as the word sew.

그래서 바느질은 활동이지만 발음은 바느질이라는 단어와 같습니다.

Let's talk about this phrasal verb.

이 구동사에 대해 이야기 해 봅시다.

When you take up an activity or  a hobby, it simply means start.

활동이나 취미를 시작한다는 것은 단순히 시작을 의미합니다.

And this is one of the reasons that students  you don't understand native speakers,  

그리고 이것이 학생들이 원어민을 이해하지 못하는 이유 중 하나입니다.

because our vocabularies are filled with phrasal  verbs, idioms, and expressions like this one.

왜냐하면 우리의 어휘는 구동사 , 관용어, 이와 같은 표현으로 가득 차 있기 때문입니다.

So remember our last expression?

그럼 우리의 마지막 표현을 기억하시나요?

I have a lot on my plate.

내 접시에는 많은 것이 있습니다.

Let's combine these together.

이것들을 함께 결합해 봅시다.

I'd love to take up sewing, but I  already have so much on my plate at work.

저는 바느질을 하고 싶지만 직장에서 이미 처리해야 할 일이 너무 많습니다.

Of course, take is a verb,  so you need to conjugate it.

물론 take는 동사이므로 활용해야 합니다.

I could say Max took up guitar  last year and he's already amazing.

Max가 작년에 기타를 시작했는데 벌써부터 대단한 사람이 된 것 같아요.

And the reason why this is  more advanced is because  

그리고 이것이 더 고급화된 이유는 발음에 있어서

I'm using an expression you may not  be familiar with for pronunciation.

여러분이 익숙하지 않을 수도 있는 표현을 사용하고 있기 때문입니다 .

I said have you, But a lot of native  speakers reduce you to just say yeah,  

나는 당신을 가지고 있다고 말했지만 많은 원어민은 당신을 그냥 예,

yeah, have you, have you, have you nailed.

예, 가지고 있어요, 가지고 있어요, 잘했어요라고 말하게 만듭니다.

So you might hear that now nailed.

그래서 당신은 지금 못 박혔다는 것을 듣게 될 것입니다.

Notice in the past simple that Ed  is a very soft D nailed nailed.

과거의 단순에서 Ed는 매우 부드러운 D 못을 박았다는 점에 주목하세요.

But we have nailed down O.

하지만 우리는 O를 못 박았습니다.

Because I have a D sound on  down and these two go together,  

D 소리가 아래에 있고 이 두 소리가 함께 있기 때문에

I'll pronounce it as one and  you'll only hear 1D sound.

Nail down nail down.

못을 박으세요. 못을 박으세요.

So it's pronounced exactly the same as nail down.

따라서 Nail Down과 정확히 동일하게 발음됩니다.

But if you say it together  that D is used for both.

하지만 함께 말하면 D는 둘 다에 사용됩니다.

Same with dates.

날짜도 마찬가지입니다.

Yet notice how that blends  into the ye for yet dates yet.

그러나 그것이 아직 날짜에 대한 예와 어떻게 조화를 이루는지 확인하십시오 .

And it sounds like one word dates.

그리고 그것은 한 단어가 데이트하는 것처럼 들립니다.

Yet dates.

Yet the phrasal verb here  is to nail something down,

and that's when you firmly  establish or confirm something.

So just think of it as 100% confirmed.

I could say I'm not signing the  contract until we nail down the terms.

Once the terms are nailed down, they're 100%  confirmed, so you can think of them as official.

용어가 확정되면 100% 확인되므로 공식적인 용어라고 생각하시면 됩니다.

So then I'm comfortable signing the  contract in a more everyday context,  

그러면 좀 더 일상적인 상황에서 계약서에 서명하는 것이 편합니다. 휴가 계획을 이번 주말까지

you might say, let's nail down our  vacation plans by the end of the week,  

확정하자고 말할 수도 있고,

and once your plans are nailed  down, they're 100% confirmed.

일단 계획이 확정되면 100% 확정됩니다.

So you can get excited about your vacation.

그래서 당신은 휴가에 대한 흥미를 느낄 수 있습니다.

Now notice my question.

이제 내 질문에 주목하십시오.

Have you nailed down the dates yet?

What verb tense is that?

It's the present perfect,  and I'm using the present  

현재 완료형이고,

perfect because this is an unfinished timeline.

If the person says no, it's still  possible for them to nail down the  

상대방이 아니오라고 대답하더라도 아직

dates to confirm the dates  because it's unfinished.

완료되지 않았으므로 날짜를 확정하기 위해 날짜를 확정할 수는 있습니다.

To reply, you can say no,  not yet because we use yet.

답장하려면 아직 사용하지 않으므로 아니요라고 대답하시면 됩니다.

With the present perfect.

현재완료로.

No, I haven't nailed down the dates yet.

아니요, 아직 날짜를 확정하지 않았습니다.

Or you could say yes, I nailed down the dates  past simple to show a completed past action.

Or you could say yes, I  have nailed down the dates.

This is the present perfect.

It's a completed past action  with a result in the present.

완료된 과거 작업입니다 .

Once we nail down our mission, I'm  just nailing down the specifics.

I'll nail it down this week.

Now notice can't in spoken English.

이제 영어로 말할 수 없습니다.

I'm not going to pronounce that hard.

그렇게 어렵게 발음하지는 않겠습니다.

Can't.

With the T You can can can't dodge.

T를 사용하면 피할 수 없습니다.

Notice here the D is silent.

여기서 D는 묵음입니다.

The middle D, Dodge, dodge,  dodge his calls forever.

중간 D, Dodge, dodge, 그의 전화를 영원히 회피합니다.

Now what does dodge mean to dodge?

This is when you purposely avoid or ignore.

So he's calling, but I'm not answering.

Notice I use dodge speaking because  you can dodge something his call,

or you can dodge doing something.

So the verb in ING dodge speaking, we  sometimes use this in a more positive way.

따라서 ING dodge speaking의 동사는 때로는 더 긍정적인 방식으로 사용됩니다.

I might say great job dodging that question.

나는 그 질문을 피하는 것이 훌륭하다고 말할 수 있습니다.

So maybe you were asked an inappropriate  question in an interview or a meeting,

but then you strategically  avoided answering that question.

So I might say, great job dodging that question.

Now let's do an imitation exercise.

I'm going to say each sentence again three  times, but I'm going to leave enough time

for you to repeat the sentence out  loud and imitate my pronunciation.
