If you can connect the take on, my take on this

Now a nice idiomatic expression,

which is also a phrasal verb, is to boil down to, right?

Boil down comes from when you

have a sauce or a soup and you're boiling the liquid

you might be asked if you like something.

So often we would make a noun phrase.

to express that confusion.

Now in IELTS Speaking Part Two,

sometimes you have to talk about a person,

maybe a person you know or a famous person, right?

And very often you may say,

"I'm going to talk about..."

Well, there's a nice little idiomatic expression

음, 여기에서 사용할 수 있는 약간의 관용적 표현이 있습니다.

you can use here, which is,

"The person I'm going to talk about

"내가 이야기할 사람은 바로

is none other than my father."

우리 아버지입니다."

None other than is just,

다름 아닌 그냥,

it's used usually when the person you introduce

소개하는 사람이

is gonna be a surprise for the listener, right?

듣는 사람을 놀라게 할 때 주로 쓰죠?

"The person I'm going to talk about

"내가 이야기할 인물은 바로

is none other than Donald Trump."

도널드 트럼프다."

Ooh, what a surprise.

오, 정말 놀랍습니다.

Now the thing is, because whoever you talk about

문제는 당신이 누구에 대해 이야기하든

is gonna be a surprise for the examiner,

because they don't know you.

So in fact, you can use this for anybody, right?

Absolutely fine.

Just notice the pronunciation,

We normally link none other than.

Now we talked about IELTS Speaking Part Two,

you may have to talk about a person.

But you may also have to talk about a thing or a place.

Now, if you want to describe a person,

a thing or a place as being very good,

사물 또는 장소를 매우 좋다고 설명하고 싶을 때

there are a number of different idiomatic expressions

you can use.

사용할 수 있는 다양한 관용 표현이 있습니다.

Let me take an example.

예를 들어 보겠습니다.

I'm gonna talk about a celebrity,

유명인사,

a famous football player, Harry Kane.

유명한 축구 선수인 해리 케인에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

Who else?

그밖에 누가?

None other than Harry Kane.

다름 아닌 해리 케인.

I could say, "Harry Kane is hands down

"해리 케인은 손꼽히는

the best football player in the world."

세계 최고의 축구 선수입니다."

"Harry Kane is second to none."

"해리 케인은 누구에게도 뒤지지 않는다."

"He is a cut above the rest."

"그는 나머지보다 한 컷입니다."

"I think the world of Harry Kane."

"나는 해리 케인의 세계를 생각한다."

So all of these expressions mean, you know,

그래서 이 모든 표현들은 아시다시피,

he's very good or he's the best.

그가 매우 훌륭하다 또는 그가 최고라는 것을 의미합니다.

You could also use these for places or for things.

장소나 물건에 사용할 수도 있습니다.

Maybe your favourite restaurant, right?

What's your favourite restaurant?

"Oh, McDonald's is second to none."

Really?

Which is your favourite restaurant in your city?

Now, if you want to talk about things,

자, 그냥 평범한 사물, 장소, 사람에 대해 이야기하고 싶다면

places or people that are just normal, right?

, 그렇죠?

Nothing special.

A really nice idiom is to say,

정말 좋은 관용구는

"Run-of-the-mill."

"평범한"이라고 말하는 것입니다.

"Run-of-the-mill."

"공장의 실행."

Can you say that?

그렇게 말할 수 있습니까?

"Run-of-the-mill."

"공장의 실행."

Run-of-the-mill just means ordinary,

run-of-the-mill은 그냥 평범하고

nothing special, right?

특별하지 않다는 뜻이죠?

"I went to a restaurant last night in my neighbourhood.

" 어젯밤에 우리 동네에 있는 식당에 갔습니다.

It was okay, but it's a run-of-the-mill restaurant."

괜찮았지만 평범한 식당입니다."

"I've got this new game on my phone.

"내 휴대전화에 이 새로운 게임이 있습니다.

Yeah, it's okay.

예, 괜찮아요.

It's a run-of-the-mill game, like all of them, really."

정말 그들 모두와 마찬가지로 평범한 게임입니다."

Nice expression to use.

사용하기 좋은 표현.

So we've looked at something that's very good,

그래서 우리는 매우 좋은 것,

something that's normal.

What about if something is not so good?

Again, we might want to say, for example,

"It's not a patch on..."

Can you say it?

And here we're comparing two things, right?

So for example,

"I saw the latest Marvel film the other day, right?

Or, "I saw a film and I've also read the book.

I mean, the film is okay, but it's not a patch on the book.

The book is much better."

책이 훨씬 낫습니다."

It's not a patch on, nice expression.

패치가 아니라 멋진 표현입니다.

Similarly, another expression is,

마찬가지로 또 다른 표현은

"It can't hold a candle to this one."

"It can't hold a candle to this one"입니다.

Again, meaning it's not as good as.

다시 말하지만 그만큼 좋지 않다는 의미입니다.

So the latest Marvel film was okay,

그래서 최신 Marvel 영화는 좋아요,

but it can't hold a candle to the very first Marvel film.

하지만 최초의 Marvel 영화에 촛불을 붙일 수는 없습니다.

Right?

맞죠?

"I mean, Spider-Man is good,

"내 말은, 스파이더맨은 훌륭

but he can't hold a candle to Batman."

하지만 그는 배트맨에게 촛불을 붙일 수 없다는 것입니다."

So you can use it with things, with people,

with places as well.

Yeah?

예?

"I mean, Manchester is a nice city,

"제 말은, 맨체스터는 좋은 도시

but it can't hold a candle to London."

지만 런던에 비할 바는 못 됩니다." 맨체스터가 제 고향이기

I shouldn't say that, because Manchester's my hometown,

때문에 그런 말을 하면 안 되지만

but it's true.

London I think is a nicer city than Manchester,

사실입니다.

런던 제 생각에는 맨체스터보다 더 좋은 도시지만 내가 그런 말을 했다는 사실을

but don't tell anybody I said that.

So we've talked about people, places and things

that are very good, normal and not so good.

아주 좋고, 평범하고 좋지 않은 것에 대해 이야기했습니다.

Let's move on.

So remember, just pick out one or two idioms from these,

start practising them and slowly build up your base,
