Hello guys, today we’re gonna be talking  about tricks to IMPROVE your American accent.

I'll give you some tips that you would  probably not study with your English teacher.  

Je vais vous donner quelques conseils que vous n'étudieriez probablement pas avec votre professeur d'anglais.

English is my second language, and I've been learning it for several years, and I've never

Now I ll share with you the tricks that  will help you to master the American Accent.

Trick number 1. Use phrasal verbs Americans do not use academic verbs on a day to  

Astuce numéro 1. Utilisez des verbes à particule Les Américains n'utilisent pas de verbes académiques au jour le

day basis, Instead of saying Leave, they say Get out, instead of saying accept, they say take on 

jour. Au lieu de dire Leave, ils disent Get out, au lieu de dire accept, ils disent take on

Or for example Americans would never say something like… My car stopped working.  

Ou par exemple, les Américains ne diraient jamais quelque chose comme… Mon voiture a cessé de fonctionner.

They would say – My car broke down. So use phrasal verbs as much as possible.

Ils disaient : Ma voiture est tombée en panne. Utilisez donc autant que possible des verbes à particule.

Trick number 2. Phrases only Americans use. If you wanna sound more American,

it’s important to use Vocabulary that  is used by Americans and avoid the

expressions that are used only by the British. For instance, Americans always use Take out  

expressions qui ne sont utilisées que par les Britanniques. Par exemple, les Américains utilisent toujours Take out

instead of take away when they buy some food at the restaraunt and they want to take it home.

Trick number 3. Contractions with Will Americans use contractions all the time,  

Astuce numéro 3. Contractions avec Will Les Américains utilisent des contractions tout le temps,

and there’re two ways to pronounce them – in a clear way and in a very relaxed way 

et il y a deux façons de prononcer eux - d'une manière claire et d'une manière très détendue

So, You will. You can say  You'll in a clear way "youuuul".

Alors, vous le ferez. Vous pouvez dire Vous allez clairement "youuuul".

and "yull". It's pronounced in  a very relaxed way.

et "yull". Il se prononce de manière très détendue.

Let’ read them together: we'll have, they'll have, you’ll have. Well done! 

Lisons-les ensemble : nous aurons, ils auront, vous aurez. Bien joué!

It's okay to say we will have and they will have, but we want to sound a little bit more natural,  

C'est bien de dire que nous aurons et qu'ils auront, mais nous voulons avoir un son un peu plus naturel,

so we use them in a natural  way: you'll, we'll have, they'll have.

donc nous les utilisons de manière naturelle : vous, nous aurons, ils auront.

Let’s move on to the next trick. 4. Linking Consonant+ a Vowel. 

Passons à l'astuce suivante. 4. Lier Consonne + une Voyelle.

Let’s listen to the sentence. He's at home. He's at home.

Écoutons la phrase. Il est chez lui. Il est chez lui.

We don’t say He’s at home. We say He’s at home. What about this sentence? 

Nous ne disons pas qu'il est chez lui. Nous disons qu'il est chez lui. Qu'en est-il de cette phrase ?

She wore an exciting dress.  She wore an exciting dress. 

Elle portait une robe excitante. Elle portait une robe excitante.

These two sentences have a  consonant and then a vowel. 

Ces deux phrases ont une consonne puis une voyelle.

And when we’re speaking quickly, the words are linking together and it makes us sound  

Et lorsque nous parlons rapidement, les mots s'enchaînent et cela nous donne un son

a teacher, a coach, a native speaker who would help you and correct your mistakes.

When we speak we don’t hear ourselves and when we listen to ourselves speaking on a recording

or the video we can hear so many things and it’s very important to have someone
