Sometimes when we make just a little pronunciation mistake, 

گاهی اوقات وقتی فقط کمی اشتباه تلفظ می‌کنیم،

it can change the meaning of the whole sentence. When we put the wrong stress in the word, 

می‌تواند معنی کل جمله را تغییر دهد. وقتی استرس اشتباهی در کلمه وارد می‌کنیم،

it can create some kind of confusion. If I say: 

می‌تواند نوعی سردرگمی ایجاد کند. اگر بگویم:

This is because I put the wrong syllable stress in all these words. 

این به این دلیل است که من در همه این کلمات تاکید هجای اشتباهی قرار داده ام .

It’s an important lesson where you can enjoy some useful information. 

این یک درس مهم است که در آن می توانید از اطلاعات مفیدی لذت ببرید.

But do you know what a syllable means? A syllable is a small unit, 

اما آیا می دانید هجا یعنی چه؟ هجا واحد کوچکی است

a part of the word that has only one vowel sound. 

،  بخشی از کلمه که فقط یک صدای مصوت دارد.

Every word has one or more syllables. Syllables are stressed differently. 

هر کلمه یک یا چند هجا دارد. هجاها به صورت متفاوتی تاکید می شوند.

Now I’m gonna give you some words and I want you to say 

حالا من چند کلمه به شما می‌دهم و می‌خواهم بگویید

how many syllables the word has. If we clap our hands every time 

که کلمه چند هجا دارد. اگر هر بار

we hear a vowel sound, we can count the number of syllables. 

که صدای مصوتی را می شنویم، دست بزنیم، می توانیم تعداد هجاها را بشماریم.

Here we have four syllables A lot of people think 

اینجا ما چهار هجا داریم بسیاری از مردم فکر

that they need to pronounce all the letters in the word clearly 

می کنند  باید همه حروف کلمه را به وضوح تلفظ کنند

and emphasize each syllable because they want other people 

و روی هر هجا تأکید کنند زیرا آنها می خواهید دیگران

easily understand what they are trying to SAY. But this is not the case in American English. 

به راحتی بفهمند که چه می خواهند بگویند. اما در انگلیسی آمریکایی اینطور نیست.

When we have the word and we break it down into syllables, 

وقتی کلمه را داریم و آن را به هجاها تقسیم

then we can think about  which syllable is stressed. 

می‌کنیم، می‌توانیم به این فکر کنیم که روی کدام هجا تاکید شده است.

Stress is extremely important because some syllables are pronounced longer and louder, 

استرس بسیار مهم است زیرا برخی از هجاها بلندتر و بلندتر تلفظ می شوند

and some syllables are shorter and lower. 

و برخی از هجاها کوتاه تر و کمتر هستند.

So we have stressed syllables  and unstressed syllables. 

بنابراین ما هجاهای تاکیدی و هجاهای بدون تاکید داریم.

Why do we put the stress on  certain parts of the word?

the essential rules for word  stress in American English

Rule 1

In most two syllable-nouns stress is on the first syllable

Rule 2 Two syllable adjectives

have the stress on the first syllable Not always, not all adjectives,

but most adjectives. Let’s take a look at the examples

Most two syllable verbs have the  stress on the Second syllable

You know that most English  verbs have only ONE syllable 

شما می‌دانید که بیشتر افعال انگلیسی فقط یک هجا دارند،

for instance run, work, play, eat. But when we have the verbs with two syllables like 

به عنوان مثال اجرا، کار، بازی، خوردن . اما وقتی افعالی با دو هجا داریم مانند

admit refuse

You should be able to hear the  stress on the second syllable.

always be exceptions, for example – open It’s a verb, but We have the stress on the

Which one is correct? If the word is a noun,

the stress is gonna be on the first syllable 

if the word is a verb, the stress is on the second syllable. 

اگر کلمه یک فعل باشد، تأکید روی هجای اول خواهد بود، تأکید روی هجای دوم است.

insult – insult I didn't know if it was a  

توهین – توهین نمی‌دانستم یک

compliment or if it was an insult. I didn't know if it was a  

تمجید بود یا یک توهین. نمی‌دانستم این یک

compliment or if it was an insult. Insult is a noun, and stress is on  

تعریف بود یا یک توهین. توهین یک اسم است و تاکید

the first syllable - Insult This person insulted me. 

روی هجای اول است - توهین این شخص به من توهین کرد.

Insult is a verb, and stress is  on the second syllable - insulted 

توهین یک فعل است، و تاکید روی هجای دوم است - توهین شده است

A prEsent is a noun, the  stress is on the first syllable
