Work Place Schedule

okay that's right we are going to do some  phrases Expressions vocabulary this is a  

vocabulary lesson we're just going to take  a look at some workplace schedule related  

items vocabulary let's look at this here to  show up a more formal way of saying arrive if  

you arrive you show up when are you going to  show up when are you going to [Music] arrive  

two people didn't show up for the meeting two  people didn't show up didn't arrive for the

meeting the bus showed up 20 minutes late that's  right the bus arrived showed up 20 minutes

late to be away to not be at your  workplace because of a vacation or  

maybe work related reasons so if you're  not at work you are a away to be away

Mara Mara is away on maternity leave maternity  leave is when you have a baby and you want to  

be with your baby after you have the baby so you  take some time away from work you are away from  

work so you Mari Mara is away on maternity leave  that's a difficult preposition you're on maternity

leave Brian is away on on a business  trip yeah he's away on a business trip  

business business trip I'm away from the  office right now please leave a message

beep hello this is Chad I'm away from the  office right now please leave a message  

at the beep beep all right that's  my message my message machine not  

really all right to be off to not be at your  workplace so you're not working you are off  

because you want to rest or relax I'm off work  today I'm going to go golfing next month I'll  

be off for two weeks I'm going to Hawaii yeah  I'll be off so if you're off you're not going  

to work you're going to take a break you are  not on anymore you are off I'll be off for two

weeks Jim and Karen are off this Tuesday are Jim  and Karen working this Tuesday no they are not  

they are off they are off this Tuesday all right  to cover for someone if you cover for someone then  

you do a person's job for them because they are  away or or they are off if they are away or they  

are off you can cover for them you can work for  them in their place I'm covering for Valeria on  

Wednesday because she has an appointment  I'll be teaching her classes instead of

her so instead of Valaria teaching I'll  be teaching I'll be covering for Valaria  

I'll be covering for her will you cover  for me on Wednesday I have an appointment  

no I will not cover for you I'm tired  of covering for you all right can you  

cover for me on Tuesday sorry no I've  already covered for you three times this

month okay back to back now this could be  for many different things it could be for  

meetings back-to-back meetings backtack lessons  backtack patients maybe you're a doctor and you  

have lots of patients and back-to-back  patients that means they happen one after  

the other without a break no breaks back to  back I taught four English classes back to

back I have back-to-back patience all morning so  many patience not just one two or three but maybe  

many with no breaks in between back-to-back  patience all right a break a time to rest at  

work you know this word this is an easy it's a  noun easy to use every day I have a 10-minute  

morning break and a 45 minute lunch break 45  minute lunch break that's nice nice all right  

to be ahead of schedule ahead of schedule that  means to work faster than planned you had a plan  

but you were going faster than you had planned so  you are ahead of schedule the construction project  

is two months ahead of schedule ahead of schedule  so they are moving along moving fast there has  

been no rainy days lots of sunny days and so  the construction project is 2 months ahead of

schedule it's 11:00 a.m. and I'm already  30 minutes ahead of schedule this is  

great I might finish work early today  he's going to finish work early today

of the month I have a dental appointment to  clean my teeth a dental cleaning cleaning is  

where they just clean your teeth and check  make sure everything is good I'm booked  

in for dental cleaning on the 9th my entire  family was booked in to get their V vaccines

I thought it said vacations for a second there  and then I saw it well no that's not vacations  

that's vaccines I don't want to get booked  in for a vaccine I want to be booked in for  

a vacation all right to cancel an appointment  I need to cancel that vaccine appointment and  

change it to sorry I'm going I'm I'm going on  and on to cancel an appointment flight class  

to end your appointment this is too easy  everybody knows cancel can we please cancel  

our next lesson I have a doctor's appointment  on that day sure no problem we had to cancel  

our flight due to health issues that's too bad  I'm sorry to hear that to reschedule reschedule  

is to move your original appointment time to a  new time you reschedule it to a new time right  

you know this reschedule maybe you don't can  you pronounce it right reschedule reschedule  

now if you want a British accent I can't help you  there I'm an American I say schedule or for this  

word schedule schedule can't remember how British  say it they say it they say it weird reschedule I  

was originally booked in for a dental cleaning  on the 9th but I rescheduled it for the 15th
