A conversation about how to improve your English ability.

why isn't my English improving that's the  topic of this conversation let's take a look  

at a conversation and it starts with why isn't my  English improving and then the next person says  

what do you mean if you  practice English all the time  

like I know you do then your English is improving  

right well it doesn't feel like it's improving  it doesn't feel like it's improving at all

it's probably that the Improvement  is not as fast as you want it to be

why does my progress seem to  be moving at a snail's pace  

snails pace very slow there's got to be  something I can do to speed things up

well for starters you're just  passively watching videos aren't you

passively what's passively without taking action

sure but there's nothing wrong with  that right there's nothing wrong with  

that I'm studying English come on yes but  if you wanted to learn a martial art like  

would you just watch videos  to learn different techniques  

would you just watch videos to learn different  techniques is that what you would do of course not  

after watching those videos I would then  spend hours practicing those techniques  

I'm not stupid I know what to do I would  then spend hours practicing those techniques  

well learning a language  is the same don't you think

I believe that acquiring Proficiency in the  English language is not a physical activity

proficiency fluency ability  to do it smoothly and well  

so I believe that acquiring getting fluency in  the English language is not a physical activity

I agree it's mostly about using your brain right  

but this is true improving your speaking  skills requires consistent practice  

do you want to improve your speaking skills it  requires consistent practice don't you agree yes  

I agree yeah I suppose speaking is a skill  that needs to be trained for it to improve

I'll admit I don't practice speaking not myself

I need to be looking for more  opportunities to practice what I've learned

after we learn a new word or a new expression  we should try to do something with it

aloud there's lots of great online dictionaries  that will give us great example sentences we

keep practicing you'll lose it you'll  lose it the ability to speak smoothly

I need to make an effort to write down sentences  that are important to me and review them daily to  

help with retention retention remembering them I  need to review them daily to help with retention  

retention that would definitely help definitely  reviewing is a key part of the process  

and it is a process right it's a daily continual  process and reviewing is a key part of the process

I suppose the obvious solution  here is just to keep reading  

books watching videos listening  to audio and writing things down  

and then don't forget to top it off by  articulating that information verbally
