I'm having trouble with my computer at the moment.

I've had it for over four years, and I have used it a lot

to the point where

parts of the computer are now starting to wear down.

And some parts of the computer are not working properly.

So the computer that I used to live stream

and also to do all of my video editing on is not feeling too well.

So what I'm doing over the next few weeks I will try

is to buy some new parts for my computer.

And if you are a person who knows all about computers,

you will know that certain parts of a computer are very expensive,

incredibly expensive to replace.

So that is what I am doing at the moment.

If there are problems today with my live stream, don't worry,

I will try to fix it as quickly as possible, temporarily

For a short time I will try to fix it, but hopefully over the next few weeks

I will be able to update and upgrade my computer

and repair all the bits that are not working very well.

And then I can be with you

all the time.

Did you have any damage during the storm?

Well, that is a great question.

We had three,

three huge

severe storms last week.

Three in one week.

We had storm deadly.

We had storm

units and then we had Storm

Frederick.

That is the south, right?

So many of them.

I can't remember them all, but yes, around here,

there has been a lot of damage, a lot of fallen trees.

But also because besides

the wind, we also had a lot of rain as well.

So a lot of rain did fall.

And what you find when you have a lot of rainfall, it will take two or three days

for all of the water to move

from the high ground to the low ground.

And because of that, the main river that runs through Shropshire

called the River Severn,

has now become flooded.

It has it has burst its bank.

And in certain areas there is severe, serious flooding,

a place called Ironbridge, very close to where I live

was on the news last night on the BBC,

on lots of regional news programmes,

everyone talking about eye and bridge because the flooding

is quite serious in that particular place.

So yes, we have had

a lot of damage and sadly also some lives

were lost as well during the severe storms.

But it was bad fortunately here

we don't seem to have suffered much damage around here.

So we seem to be okay even though one of our fences

at the side of the house has disappeared,

it's vanished.

So, so I don't know where it is.

Maybe it's on one of my neighbour's roofs

maybe the rooftop of one of my neighbour's

house now has one of our fences.

So yes, we did have a little bit of damage, a few trees fell,

but nothing more serious than that.

Despite the terrible flooding,

a lot of flooding taking place around here.

And if there's one thing you can't

do much about, it's flooding.

If you live on on low ground or maybe you live in a valley

it is very hard to avoid

the water when there has been a lot of rain.

And let's just be honest, we've had a lot of rain.

A lot of countries

have had a lot more rain than they normally have.

So it's been quite serious.

I think it's safe to say it's being very serious.

if that person is maybe attractive, but also someone you want to be near.

Love is blind.

It doesn't care. It doesn't judge.

So quite often we talk about love being blind

because it can it can hit you at any time.

But also, it is your own perception.

It is your own feelings.

Love is blind.

It draws you towards another person.

Sometimes there is no explanation.

There is no way of explaining why

people fall in love.

It just happens.

And that is why we often say that love is blind.

It doesn't seem to have any any logic

you can fall in love with another person and you maybe you don't even know why.

It might not just be their appearance, it might also be their characteristics.

The way they behave.

So that's the reason why we often say love

We are talking about a subject today

something that exists in most languages.

So I'm not saying that this is only something that exists

in English but also in many other languages as well.

We are talking all about opposites using opposite words.

Now, I think that this is quite a big subject.

And I'm going to warn you now, I'm going to tell you now that I won't be covering everything

because I

would be here for about three or 4 hours, but opposite words.

I always find this to be a very interesting part of English,

because sometimes times opposite words can be a little ambiguous.

Very interesting word.

Ambiguous. Not clear

So sometimes using opposite words can be a little bit

confusing or knowing which opposite word to use.

When you want to reflect the meaning or the emotion of a certain situation.

So I suppose, first of all, we should say

for every defining word, there is quite often an opposite.

So you will find many words in the English language,

have some sort of opposite

whether we are talking about a single word

or maybe a phrasal verb.

Quite often you will find there is an opposite

one thing that means that

and one thing that means this.

And sometimes they reflect

or they turn the meaning around,

which makes them opposites.

Opposite words, an opposite word is often referred

to as an antonym and antonym.

So in English, we often say that an opposite word,

one word that means the opposite of another

is an antonym.

The word antonym derives from Greek

and literally means against the name.

So whatever the word is,

the other word is against that particular word.

Hence Antonym.

That is the reason why we use the word antonym.

It is against that particular word.

But not always true, though.

It's not always true.

Common opposite words will often express

either a positive or a negative meaning.

From that, I mean, one word will have a positive meaning,

or it will be seen as a positive word.

And the opposite to that word will often be seen as a negative word.

But again, it's not always the case.

quite difficult to explain quickly.

It's very interesting, and that's one of the reasons why sometimes English

can be confusing as a language to learn.

For example, here's a good example.

Down is the opposite of

but it is not always used as a negative opposite.

So down and up are opposites,

but they are not necessarily negative and positive.

So that's when it becomes a little bit more confusing when we are talking about that.

For example, you might go down to the shops

or you might trip up and fall.

So you can see that those two words are being used

opposites as opposites.

Down in this particular sentence is positive.

And in the other sentence, up is negative.

However, you might feel down and moody.

So instead of down being positive, you can say

you feel down and moody.

So suddenly the word down becomes negative.

You might pick up your dog you lift your dog.

You are you are picking up your dog.

So that is not negative.

In fact, you might say that that particular use of the word up is neutral

because it is describing an action.

Sit and stand are opposites,

but can both express positive and negative meanings in a sentence.

Sit down.

Stand up.

So they are opposites,

but neither has a positive or negative meaning.

However, you can change the context of those words

to give them a different meaning.

So it is worth remembering

that that can be the case.

And I suppose it is fair to say that opposite words

do not always reflect a positive or negative meaning in the same way.

So opposite words do not always reflect a positive

or negative meaning in the same way they can change

depending on the situation and also the context of the sentence

down can be direction as an up,

move down, pushed down, sit down

move up, push up, sit up.

So we are using exactly the same words.

However, we are changing the second word.

We are using the opposites.

Move down.

Move up.

Push down.

Push up.

So you can use that sentence

in a positive way or a negative way, depending on a situation.

You might hear some good news and then you react, Oh,

You are excited.

However, you might have some bad news.

You might receive some disappointing news, some news

that makes you feel upset or unhappy.

So you might be sarcastic towards them.

You are saying that to be sarcastic towards someone

And yes, I think it might be true

that very often in English, especially with British

English and people who live in this country,

we can sometimes be

a little sarcastic
