here we go again yes it is Sunday there was a young man from Dundee who sat on a

giant garden pea he showed it to his mum as it stuck out his bum and his mother

yes it is here we go again boys and girls

here we go again am i late today I think I'm a little bit late I'm

sorry about that I don't know why I have no excuse for being late but I am about

two minutes late I apologize for that profusely hi everybody this is mr.

Duncan in England how are you today are you okay I hope so

are you happy well are you happy I really really hope so what a week it has

been first of all do you remember last week we were on talking about humor and

jokes and comedy things that make us laugh and things that don't make us

laugh well after just after we finished the livestream last week there was a

drama taking place at the back of the house so mr. Steve and myself we were

feeling quite happy and Merry but then we looked out the window towards the

back of the house and there was an ambulance there and there were lots of

people crowded around and there were flood lights every everywhere was lit up

at the back because it was very dark normally by the time we finish our

livestream it's normally dark outside and there was all sorts of chaos going

on on the field behind us and it turned out that a gentleman had been walking

through the woods where all of the trees are he'd been walking through the woods

and he'd actually hit his head on a low branch so a branch was in the way and of

course because it was dark he couldn't see it so he walked straight into it and

knocked himself out so he was unconscious on the floor so just as we

finished the livestream last week that's what was happening behind the house and

we had no idea all of this drama was taking place until we looked out the

window and then we saw all of the chaos taking place at the back of the house

there was an ambulance there was loads of people there was a little bit of

chaos and eventually we saw this elderly gentleman

being taken down the hill on a large stretcher and he was put into the back

of an ambulance so yes a lot of drama taking place last week after we finished

the livestream so how is your week being have you had any dramatic moments during

the week I hope not so here we go it is the 13th of January 2019 happy new year

I'm sure you've heard that too many times already

when is it too late to say happy new year so we are now into the second week

of January so is it too late to say happy new year so when do you stop

saying happy new year so is it two weeks three weeks or maybe

a month into the new year so can you still say Happy New Year in February or

March I have no idea anyway if I haven't said it to you yet

happy 2019 everybody and I hope this year will be a good one for you the big

question today is what was wrong with mr. Steve last week Hey

now normally this is what mr. Steve looks like this is what mr. Steve's

expression is normally like he's quite a happy person but last week I don't know

why his face looked like this he didn't look very happy last week what was wrong

with Stephen I feel as if I have to find out I have to find out what happened

last week because mr. Steve during the past during the last twenty thirty

minutes of last week's live stream he looked a little bit miserable and upset

now I was wondering whether I said something to upset him last week so

there is mr. Steve usually normally that's what he looks like but

last week he he looked a bit miserable during the live stream so later on we

will find out what was wrong with mr. Steve last week I

have no idea I don't know what the problem was to be

honest I really have no idea I have received some lovely comments this week

thank you very much we will go to the live chat in a few moments but we do

have some comments as well now can I first mention something now Sergio

Sergio was a little bit sarcastic last week he sent me a message and I think he

was being sarcastic mr. Duncan if you were to get paid one pound for each time

you say I hope so and Tatar for now and I've been to China you would have got a

hundred and fifteen million pounds a long time ago this time you've hit your

personal repetitive repetition record of the repetitiveness repeating this some

of the win oh I see so I think Sergio is actually saying that sometimes I do

repeat myself well as I always say part of learning is repetition so sometimes

you do have to repeat things if you are teaching or if you are doing something

on a regular basis so quite often to learn something you do need to repeat

yourself so I think Sergio might be suggesting that sometimes I say the same

things again and again for example I always like to say I hope so because I

do I genuinely hope you are okay and I hope you are happy also to repeat things

is part of teaching and of course learning so sometimes you do have to

repeat yourself and yes I admit quite often I do mention my time in China

because that is the thing that got me into teaching that is the thing

it encouraged me to continue with my teaching after I returned to the UK so

China and by teaching in China really did change my life a lot and I love

sharing those experiences with you so I'm sorry if sometimes it's a little bit

boring but I do feel quite excited about my time in China because it changed my

life and I think it's nice sometimes to share

our experiences of life and as I always say travel really does broaden your mind

you learn so many things not only about other people and the way they live and

the way they they live their daily lives but also you find out a lot about

yourself as well so that's one of the reasons why I mentioned my time in China

quite a lot and can you believe it just to give you an idea of how time

passes by so quickly it really does this March it will be 16

years since I went to China I can't believe it all that time ago it will be

16 years since I went to China and I stayed there for over four years

I think Sergio is probably getting very annoyed because I'm talking about it

again so sometimes yes you do have to repeat things if you are teaching I

think it's a very big part of the process of both teaching and learning

also we have chef our med or Ahmad I think your lessons are useful but I

objected to some of the words spoken in this video because you are a respectable

teacher and we hope that this will not happen again thank you well I'm sorry

chef if I said something that's you objected to I do apologize for that

sometimes you have to say things that some people might not like it's all part

of life maybe in your day to day life you might

hear someone say something that you object to and that is just a part of

life so maybe sometimes I will say things that you disagree with but I will

also say things that you agree with so we can't always agree on everything so

sometimes I might say something I might also sometimes play devil's advocate ooh

that's an interesting word if you are playing devil's advocate it means you

are going for the opposing view or you are saying something to create debate so

it might not be my own opinion but I'm I'm putting that argument forward

because I want to create debate and also sometimes it's good to put both sides of

a story forward so if you are talking about a certain subject sometimes it is

good to talk about both sides of a subject so maybe sometimes I will say

things that you don't agree with but you will also find that quite often I will

say things that you do agree with it is all part of this wonderful rich tapestry

we call life isn't it firm so I'm sorry chef armed' if I upset you

crawl crawl hello crawl there is a theory about why

it seems like time is pressing by faster oh I see so I think this is relating to

my lesson that I did on New Year's Eve when you are six and one year seems to

be never-ending sometimes it is because this one year is one sixth of your whole

life and maybe half of your life you are able to remember how I see yes well as

you get older I think your memories sometimes fade away so maybe as you get

older it would appear that many of your memories disappear now I'm not sure how

true that is but I really do think sometimes because your brain and this is

what I think because your brain can only hold so much information I think

sometimes the memories fade away to make room for new memories that's what I

think anyway also the other thing is your brain cannot remember everything

that's ever happened in your life so perhaps the the illusion is that because

you don't remember everything time seems shorter or it seems to go much faster

for example I can't remember everything I did last year

so to me 2018 went very quickly because the memories from last year are very few

because not all of them have been stored in my brain so that's how I see it

anyway that's the illusion of time passing faster then it does that's what

moment also protests taking place at the moment in Argentina there are mass

protests taking place at the moment in that country in response to austerity

austerity so the word austerity means to cut back so maybe if you spend so much

money on one thing or two things or many things there might come a time when you

can't spend that money so you have to make cutbacks you have to cut back on

the amount of money you spend on something so yes there are protests also

look outside the window because this morning it was a beautiful morning a

beautiful day a lovely way to start the day this morning

it was absolutely gorgeous would you like to have a look right now okay let's

have a look outside and there it was this morning so that is the view that I

woke up to this morning as I opened the curtains of my bedroom

isn't that lovely it's a rather grey day or at least it was this morning but this

afternoon it's turned quite nice we actually have a lot of sunshine even

though it's very windy outside so there it is the view this morning looking out

across the landscape and you can see also the Sheep for those who are

wondering about the Sheep yes they are still here and there they are this

morning at the back of the house they were feeding on the field in the back of

the house and now we we will have a closer look at the Sheep and can you see

there is one black sheep and also there is something else that you will see in a

moment look out for mr. pheasant where is mr. pheasant he is about to

appear there he is mr. pheasant he's always in hurry of he goes so you can

see there are lots of different sheep who are black sheep white sheep there is

some very unusual looking sheep they have white fleece and black legs isn't

that strange and you can see there there are some people walking their dogs now

there is one thing I've noticed that sheep do not like dogs they are not fans

of dogs and there they go you can see they're running away from

the dogs they don't like the docks at all

so there it is the view this morning out of my window I hope you enjoyed that

because it was a nice way to start the day I thought there is nothing nicer

than looking out your window and enjoying the view what about the view

now well this morning it was quite bright and breezy outside but now once

again it's gone very dill so there is the view now looking outside at this

very moment in time but this morning it was actually quite nice the view this

morning was lovely but now it's a little dull that is the way the things go at

least we've had no snow at the moment because in some parts of Europe they

have had lots and lots of snow so can I say a big hello to those who have at the

moment not just a little bit of snow but lots of snow but here in the UK we

haven't had much snow at all even though having said that next week there might

be some snowfall so we will have to wait and see what happens there shall we have

a look at another message oh okay then now I do like receiving your messages so

your wife doing do I need to answer them about my wife or can I just say hello

it's good to see you well as you can see I have replied to that question there

are many ways to reply as a positive response you can say you can say she's

okay thanks she's doing great she's well you can also ask about the other

person's wife husband or family after replying you can reply with she's okay

thanks how's your family she's doing great

how is Mary keeping so there are many of responding to that particular

question and of course it's always nice to say that if you meet a person in the

street you might ask them how they are you might also ask how is your family

how is your wife mr. Steve will be here in a few moments but first we are going

to take a look at one of my full English lessons this is an excerpt taken from

full English number six if you are a regular viewer then you will know that I

love food can you guess what my most favorite snack is the thing I like to

nibble on the most the one food I often get a craving for okay I will tell you

my most favorite snack is cheese yes it is true I love to nibble on cheese there

are many reasons why I love cheese firstly there are so many varieties so

many flavors of cheese from mild to extra mature cheeses can vary in shape

and color too some are round and white while others can be square in red some

cheeses have a strong odor cheese is made from the milk of a cow or goat each

type of cheese has its own name this name normally relates to where it was

originally produced for example cheddar cheese was first made in cheddar

Somerset which is in the UK red Leicester cheese was first made in

Leicestershire and is red in colour one of the smelliest cheesy

must be the variety known as stinking Bishop this cheese is also produced here

in the UK in the county of Gloucestershire each country has its own

famous cheese France has its camembert cheese Greece has its feta cheese which

is made from goat's milk Italy has its Parmesan cheese which is normally grated

and sprinkled onto pasta or you could try some mozzarella cheese which is used

to make pizza topping there are many hundreds of varieties of

cheese around the world all of which I would love to try but sadly I cannot as

I would put on weight and get very very fat when people take photographs of

their friends and family they normally ask the subjects to say cheese as it

encourages everyone being photographed to smile cheese I must say all this talk

of cheese is making me feel quite hungry

I love the fact that mr. Steve is already producing the show is only just

walked in the room and already he's telling me which buttons to press he

just said I can't see myself where am i I can't see myself on the screen

get through today and always we run out of time every week we run out of time

but last week first of all we had a bit of a drama last week didn't we did we

did you see the drama I've mentioned I was already in the back of the house

with all going on right behind us yes someone was injured at the back of the

house there we think that they hit their head on a low branch from a tree so

maybe they were walking along and he hit their head and they were unconscious and

then the ambulance came lots of people were helping it looked like an elderly

man who had injured himself and all of that happened during the last few

moments of last week's live stream and we went out we went through to the

kitchen I was going to make the the tea cakes and the cup of tea

there they are for later and we saw an ambulance in the field behind the house

lots of drama it was getting dark and yes because there is a path that goes

right up through the woods and we have for some time we've been walking through

that path and a branch fell over in the wind last year and you had to duck

really low underneath to go through and where every time we've gone up there we

said oh we must get a saw and cut that branch away because it's quite dangerous

and annoying and oh it's not our fault but if we

probably could have removed that some poor gentleman went down there and hit

his head anyone could have removed it I could

have done my god I can't believe Steve is kind of taking the blame for it not

taking the blame but we could have prevented it if we'd actually removed it

but every time we went to walk up there we forgot to take the saw with it so

could somebody else I know anyone could have yes it's their own stupid fault for

not looking where they were Gary yes who takes so well who takes a walk through

the woods in the dark well it was yes it was getting dark wasn't it just yes it

was start to get dark so who does then we hope they're all right we don't know

it wasn't a local person so we haven't found out whether they are in fact all

right yeah so we don't know we don't know we never found out it didn't look

very well on the stretcher right another thing I want to point out last week mr.

Steve this is what you normally look like every week so this is this is what

mr. Steve looks like normally oh he looks like such a happy-go-lucky guy so

chirpy so happy but last week well this is what you look like last week what was

wrong with you last week you you look so miserable I was in a bad mood normally

you look like this so this is what mr. Steve normally looks like but last week

we had this looks all oh it doesn't look like you who is that who is that movie

grumpy old man there's some grumpy old man there so what was the problem Steve

uh although I just I was just didn't feel as cheer Pete as usual mister do

you know what I think I have my own results I have no I think I think I

upset Steve last week I didn't even realize I didn't realize

that I'd upset you but if you remember last week we were talking about comedy

humor jokes but strangely enough I managed to make mr. Steve very angry

because I I we were talking about types of humor and why some people are a

offended by humor and some people aren't and Steve gave his opinion and I said

you you're wrong you're wrong about that and because I said that mr. Steve you

became so upset oh let us move on mr. Duncan assisant move on you know that

was last week it's all over it's in the past

what but the funny thing is I didn't even realize I didn't realize that I

died upset stage fuming inside fuming I know that means I'm very angry we can

tell look this mr. Steve last week your face if I could sum up in one word angry

angry that's one word that's just that's the word I want to use to describe your

face last week you look so so angry but it's all over now I'm fine today mr.

Duncan its unless of course you say something that annoys me again that

never happened I'm which case I shall just walk off someone asked this week by

the way how long we've known each other and and I told them that this year it

will be 30 long this year it will be 30 years 30 not 13 not 13 not three but

thirty thirty years we've known each other you don't get that long in prison

for murder you don't get that for murder if you murder someone in the street you

only get about 10 or 12 years so twice so this is like this is like a death

sentence really isn't it this is like being on death row waiting to be

strapped into the electric chair well we had a few shocks last week well I'm

referring to what you were just referring to oh I see my moment of anger

yes oh by the way someone said last week that I look a bit like Freddy Krueger

from Nightmare on Elm Street so just to put this that's how I thought yes

actually you're right I do look a bit like him don't I

yes yes looking at that yes I can there is a resemblance yes because of the

t-shirt that I'm wearing someone said I look like Freddy Krueger from a

Nightmare on Elm Street and yes there might be a slight similarity there not

necessarily a reference I did something right that way you would actually like I

did something really stupid this week only one only one thing so normally

during the week I do two or three things that are really stupid but this week I

did something very stupid I decided to do some cosmetic surgery oh yes some

cosmetic surgery on myself just just just stopped I have anyway did do I'm

gonna get a bed next week next week we're gonna have mr. Steve lying in a

bed because he always he always starts to get very comfortable here he starts

to sort of lean on the furniture but what he doesn't realize is when he does

that he blocks my light and then you can't see my lovely beautiful face see

although today it might be a good thing because during the week I decided to

give myself some cosmetic surgery now I thought it was a good idea at the time

but I'm regretting it now because I decided I wanted to get rid of these

strange spots on my face I have these little spots on my face

so I decided to put some acid on my face

mr. Duncan gets these strange ideas sometimes I thought it would be a good

idea and in the past I would have tried to prevent him but this time I just

thought now I'm just gonna let him get on with it

and and see what happens so yes you bought a product that is normally don't

mention the name I'm not gonna mention the name no but normally you do mr.

Duncan bought a product that you normally use for getting rid of warts or

verrucas on your feet yeah and he decided that he would apply it to his

face in order to remove some cosmetic spots that you don't like them look

automatic spots is a setting that you don't like the look of on your face this

is the opposite of cosmetic it's ugly spots okay yeah they were ruining up

ruining my beautiful face so we thought I know I'll apply a product which

specifically tells me on the instructions not to apply to my face is

just say that it says in big letters in big words on the back of the box it says

do not apply this product to your face so what did i do what did I do Steve

you thought well if it can get rid of verrucas on your feet it can probably

burn off spots on my face yes so that's what I did that's what I did I put some

acid on my face and now it's it's bird big holes I've

got big holes in my face so I'm I'm hoping that that they will heal up you

will look more like Freddy Krueger if you keep on a plan no I think what you

can see already you know I look like him already so there he is

so there's Freddy that's Duncan Krueger from from a nightmare on English street

see the back of the hand there that's what your face will look like I know so

I've learnt a very valuable lesson this week and the lesson is don't put acid on

your face well when you say acid well it is acid but yes but it's not you know

the way you say it as though you've got a solution of acid that you were pouring

onto your face well it's a kind of acid okay for a rose if Mateen but I dropped

I dropped some of it on the floor and it burnt all the way through the floor and

then it went into the ground and I think it's still melting the earth no like

aliens blood you know that if you give you cut an ad in the blood cut that's

what you want that's what would have got rid of them what an alien from the film

alien the blood of alien is like acid and it burns through anything okay so

maybe a few drops of that would have done the trick yeah I will go to the

chemist next week and I will ask them if they have some alien blood interesting

to see what the live chat is saying how many people have used

products in an inappropriate way he's doing it again I'm going to how many

people have used products stand up on areas of your body that you're not

supposed to I'm going to get a bed next week's next week trust me I'm doing this

this is happening they're getting to annoy mr. Duncan next week mr. Steve

will be in a bed I'm going to get a bed I might put it in here I might put it in

another room but mr. Steve next week we'll be in bed well you see I used to

be in a chair very comfortably sitting if viewers that have been watching us

for some time he can't stop himself realize that I used to have a nice

comfortable chair to sit in now I'm have to stand up for one and a half hours

what are you you not make my feet and legs oh you poor thing you're not you're

not an old man are you you're not 70 but I'm not 20 either no

well that's true I think we all agree on that

it also says in that product do not use on genitals I hope you haven't been

using it other parts of your body mr. Duncan do not use on face and genitals

well I haven't that there is nothing that I want to get rid of on my willy to

be honest there's nothing this unless it makes it larger of course in which case

I'm all for it I don't think acid is going to have that effect I don't think

no don't don't put acid on your willy any rate or on your face for the viewers

should mr. Duncan keep on applying a product to remove verrucas onto the

spots on his face haven't got any doctors watching no I think certain

advisors it's a terrible idea well I didn't want to say I just I didn't

bother saying anything because if I say something don't do that it's like a

child they'll just do the opposite it's true so I just thought yeah just let him

get on with it history I am basically a child in a

man's body who knows a lot about English I'm thirsty already I just hope that's

screen now Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife Mackenzie are to divorce after a

25-year marriage the pair announced the move in a joint statement on Wednesday

on Twitter what a strange place to announce your divorce on Twitter mm-hmm

after a long period of loving exploration whatever that is and a trial

separation we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends

the couple said in a statement rich friends now Amazon was formed 25 years

ago but this week Amazon eclipsed Microsoft but to become

the world's most valuable listed company so it's more valuable than than

Microsoft or Apple so mr. Bezos who is 54 he founded Amazon

is the world's wealthiest man according to Bloomberg's billionaire index I don't

think we're on that are we Steve no yet not yeah no with an estimated wealth of

137 billion dollars now that's a lot of money now he's actually forty five

billion dollars ahead of Bill Gates so Jeff Bezos is

now the richest man in the world but he's getting a divorce so what does that

normally mean Steve that means that they'll have to split the assets of

their marriage and depending on whether they've got any agreements prenups or

it'll all be probably be decided in court hmm the wife will probably get

half so quite often in law if there is a divorce normally they have what they

call a settlement settlement so both halves of the relationship the husband

and wife they will agree or quite often nowadays it is actually in law isn't it

so you have to split all of the assets all of the things they own all of the

money they have fifty-fifty well it's strange that you should say

that because my somebody I know who's going through a divorce with their wife

at the moment okay there's lots of negotiations that

seemed to take place between the various lawyers husband and wife have their own

lawyers and they have to thrash out some kind of deal threat yeah and it often

depends it's quite strange that sort of one will offer something then the other

one will go back with a counteroffer

but I think yes it just depends on the circumstances I think but I think in

this country pretty much even if the I think if the husband is the one that is

let's say causing infidelity in the relationship okay so when we say

infidelity because we're using lilting so infidelity just means to go against

the marriage the rules of the marriage well yes you're having a relationship

with somebody else so so they are married but the husband or of course

let's be equal here the wife can also run off with someone maybe the milkman

maybe every morning he gives her more than a pint of milk if you get my

meaning so yes so the divorce can be because of the man or the woman so yeah

and normally they split everything in half yes but if you are very wealthy

sometimes they they have to have a contract that they sign what do they

call that well it's a prenup so every in America it's called I don't

know what we call it we call it that here do we write okay I think you have

prenuptials here so a prenuptial agreement agrees it is a contract this

says what will happen if they divorce isn't that great so you you enter the

marriage and before you can get married you have to sign a contract that talks

about what happens when your marriage ends I don't think many people do that

they're only wealthy people it only tends to be yes people well where

there's an inequality in the assets of one partner over another when they're

getting married and what the say one's much much wealthier than the other

millionaire and then he meets somebody or she meets somebody who's worth a lot

less than them they want to be certain that they're getting into a relationship

for the right reasons ie that person isn't marrying them because they've got

lots of money and so to protect themselves they often set up these

agreements so that if they get divorced the person with all the money can keep

all the money all these keep most of it or they they agree on a settlement yes

so maybe the wife only gets 10% or maybe 20% and not not 50 so yes so it does

depend but divorce is something that is very common nowadays maybe maybe in some

cultures it isn't but I think it's fair to say and I'm not being unkind but it

would be fair to say that many marriages nowadays don't last very long

I think the divorce I think about it I think it's approaching 50% yes in this

country of people who get married do eventually get divorced so in all

fairness definitely in Western cultures maybe here in

UK Europe and also in the United States you might find that divorce is a very

common thing now your parents aren't divorced but mine actually are my

parents got divorced many years ago when I was about 15 or 16 so my parents got

divorced quite a few years ago when I was a teenager so yes it's so so I have

some personal experience of this I mean it used to be that people was very rare

for people to get divorced because of course traditionally you're getting

married in a church aren't you and you have to read to go through a ceremony

which is you're getting married in the eyes of God aren't you people get back

that's what people go to church and they have to recite lines and of course so a

lot of people of older generations they will never break these vowels because

these vowels they make you know to God so a lot of people won't get divorced

because of that reason but of course nowadays you can just go to a registry

office you don't have to go through a religious ceremony to get married and

therefore there's no particular reason not to get divorced if things go wrong

hmm you haven't got that in the back of your mind think we went to a church and

you're not going to be worried about retribution from above but you know what

I think but but the problem is nowadays and I don't think marriage is taken as

seriously as it used to be no I I have my own solution which is not get married

then get married that's a great solution so you can have a relationship but maybe

you can give it some time and and and not rush into things but I think at the

moment marriage has become like a status symbol it's something that you you have

to have a very big wedding with with a really big cake in a lovely wedding

dress and everything is big and lots of money is spent on it so I have seen in

my life many people spend a lot of money on their wedding

and a couple of years later they get divorced so all of that money all of

that expense all of that grandeur all of that that pomp all of that that ceremony

everything's sort of big and grand and then two years later they get divorced I

think it would be fair to say are not not being sexist here but anybody that I

know of man and woman that have got married usually it's the woman that

wants to have a big wedding white dress a traditional white wedding yeah in a

church with everybody there I think most men probably couldn't be bothered with

that I might be jumped generalizing here and I don't want to seem sexist but I

think most people that I know have got married the man probably given the

choice wouldn't have gone for the big splashy wedding where you spent that

tens of thousands and that what weddings cost a fortune yes well you can spend

ten ten thousand pounds on a fairly sort of average wedding so yes it's very in a

very expensive thing but of course they always say it is the bride's day so the

bride is the the person getting married the female so quite often they say it is

her day yes yes so I think so but my point is that a lot of people spend a

lot of money tons of money on their big lavish wedding and then they get

divorced so all of that effort all of that work all of the money that's being

spent traditionally of course it was the far it went in out in in certain Western

culture it was the tradition that the father of the bride would pay for all

the wedding yes or all the parents of the bride yes the parents of the bride

would pay for all the wedding but now nowadays that tradition has largely gone

and I think they sort of split it 50/50 yes

now of course going back to divorce again

talking to this friend of mine who's getting divorced I hope your friend

isn't watching this well I haven't said his name nope almost that the the

lawyers are getting something like 20% of all the money that is exchanging

hands between the between him and his wife that the the fees incurred when you

have to get lawyers involved well in anything everybody knows this if you

want to get divorced you know if you're going to split up a hundred thousand

pounds between the two of you probably twenty thousand if it's going to the

lawyers well it's even even if you want to get something notarized it's it's

maybe four or five hundred pounds so all you need is is a signature on a document

to make it a legal document it's it's four or five hundred pounds and all the

lawyer is doing or the solicitor is signing their name it's incredible and

putting a stamp on it and that's it so once you involve lawyers or as we call

them here solicitors it becomes a very expensive thing so getting married is

still probably less expensive than getting divorced I think so well just

don't get married that's it clogged problem solved yes exactly well it's up

to individuals it depends on what view sort of do you have a romantic view of

marriage how realistic you are about how things will go in the future we could

talk about this a lot couldn't we because mr. Duncan but yes you have gone

through I was I saw a program recently about marriage and about what about

divorce and the effects on the children if you have children I come from a

broken home you do I come from a broken home it probably explains many the rest

of your life it probably explains many things about me

in Russia as well so Sergio says today is the old new

so that is the new year but from the old calendar and he's saying happy New Year

Happy New Year I thought yes I think about July if you're still saying happy

new year in July you should stop well you see I'm in

sales and I like to make my customers feel good so I really say things to them

themselves in a relationship don't they there they tend to make themselves look

as regularly I'm generalizing here but if you let yourself go it means you

don't look you don't attend to your appearance as well I have never heard

you let yourself go okay it means you stop taking you stop making yourself

that single people have a great time when they are single but some people

believe that they should also be able to have a great time when they're married

so maybe in some relationships the partners will have an open relationship

having an affair with somebody else and not only having an affair where they've

had a baby by somebody else while you've been married to them that must be very

hard to accept hmm I think for me that would that would cross the line I think

divorce for me but that depends on every relationship you might be willing to

forgive that's it and in fact you might be friends with the this other person

and you might know there's a children who I mean this does happen oh you know

what they call that there's an old word a lovely old English word they call it a

tryst do they a tryst it's a great it's a word you never hear anymore I think

it's archaic now so I don't think you ever hear it but as I understand it a

tryst is a relationship that involves three people and I think sometimes the

relationship is also within an established relationship maybe a

marriage and then there is another person involved so maybe the three

people live together in the same house well of course so yes I think it's

called tryst in many cultures around the world it's perfectly acceptable to have

more than one wife but of course it doesn't work the other way round I

haven't heard of a culture anywhere in the world where the wife can have lots

of husbands yeah well haven't heard of that one maybe the

then I need to go and take my neighbor's dog for a walk because I'm being very

lives on her own so her dog isn't getting walked so I'm going to go and

neighbor for a walk no just her dogs she's got a lovely dog

tea cakes and now one thing it's very boring taking a dog for a walk it is

I've discovered you know we thought we've often thought about having a dog

mr. day it's not much fun for the dog either and then after I've been taking

this neighbor's dog for a walk yeah I'm just bored stiff of doing it

because the dog keeps stopping every few yards to sniff something yes I just want

to go for a walk and it just keeps stopping and sniffing everything and

that you know for me that's a good reason not to have a dog because I think

walking your dog very boring unless your course meeting other people

here's the first word mr. Duncan which will all be familiar with but I'm going

to mention it a words these are words now I'm going to start off with words

connected with days of the week and the first one is Black Friday now Black

Friday officially I was looking this up it's the first day of Christmas of the

Christmas shopping season traditionally starts in America and it starts one day

after a particular festival called Thanksgiving that they have in America

which is a sort of a you're sort of giving blessing for for the harvest so

we were over in England we would call it a harvest festival where you're giving

thanks it's a sort of religious has religious undertones where you're you're

saying thank you God for the all the the bounty of the land the wheat the fruit

so that's what Thanksgiving is about and in America it happens to fall on the

fourth Thursday in November in Canada I think it's on different days and I think

they celebrated in the Caribbean and interestingly enough in Liberia as well

but it in the fact that the harvest festival celebrating the harvest in the

UK is normally done in September because it's winter in October so if no point in

having a harvest celebration of the harvest yeah

in November because nothing's growing over here so it's all to do with that so

it's the the Friday after Thanksgiving that we don't never use to celebrate it

here in the UK but Black Friday is something that we now talk about a lot

because normally in the UK we don't tend to reduce the price of goods in the

lead-up to Christmas we tend to have our sales in January but in America they

they tend to start discounting all their goods in the lead-up to Christmas to

encourage people to buy things and the black in Black Friday apparently refers

to black in terms of an accounting black I'm talking about accounts money so if

you are in the black in terms of accounts it means that you have made

money you're not losing money if you're in the red like if you're in the red

with your bank it's a phrase would means that you're in debt so Black Friday

means it's a chance for companies who have probably been making a loss all

year to get into the black ie to make a profit as opposed to being in the red

which means if you're in the red at the bank it's a phrase we always used to use

here oh I'm in the red it means that you're in debt to the bank means you've

got less money in there than you're earning next I think that's all I want

to say about that one yes there we go so that's Black Friday there's another one

which is crept in recently called Cyber Monday and that's the Monday after Black

Friday and that is when I don't know how long that's been going again it's a

probably something that started off in the US and it just means

the sales for online retailers as opposed to retailers who have got

buildings where you would go and buy things so it's places like Amazon or

anybody that trades online that's when they do their discounting they call it

cyber monday obviously cyber referring to cyberspace now we talked about Black

Friday in a positive way means getting into the black means you're making a

profit you're making money but of course black can mean the opposite it can mean

something not so good so if you have a black day have you ever had a black day

mr. Duncan and I think you've had a few Steve I don't know what you're referring

to mr. Duncan a black day or a dark day is a day where something goes wrong or

something catastrophic happens it could be an anniversary where something very

nasty happened something that you would really remember because it was so bad

unfortunate or sad event the start of a war for example you could say that was a

black day another example it was a black day for this area when the steel factory

closed down so the steel factory closed down everyone's losing their job

thousands of people it's a black day something you'd remember the year after

and the year after that it can also be used to describe a financial meltdown

you can have a black Friday or a Black Monday or whenever the the financial

stock markets crash that is a black day something bad has happened so sometimes

for Black Friday something good happens you discounting and making lots of money

a black days when something bad happens would you agree with me Buster Duncan

yes good he's a phrase that is used quite

commonly these days TGI Friday TGI Friday now TGI Fridays if you put an

on the end of Fridays is an American restaurant chain but the TGI and that

refers to thank God it's Friday so the initials TG I stand for thank God

it's Friday and it's a reference to the fact that the working week has ended and

we've been working hard from Monday to Friday and thank goodness it's the

weekend and we can rest and relax thank you can say thank goodness it's

Friday thank goodness it's Friday we can all have the look forward to the weekend

so even though that is the name of a restaurant chain it is now used in

everyday speech just a mean you would say people say Oh TGI TGI Friday oh

thank goodness everyone says that tends to say that on

a Friday now it just means thank God it's Friday or thank goodness is Friday

the weekend is here and I can party and play now of course you've had a nice

time over the weekend that I've gone to various parties or whatever you've done

over the weekend spent time with your family Monday morning the start of work

soon comes around and you may get that Monday morning feeling that Monday

morning feeling when and that might start on Sunday night you might get that

horrible feeling in your stomach that's sad

feeling that you know you've got to go to work in a few hours time on Monday

morning that Monday morning ever had that Monday morning feeling particularly

if you don't really like your job just that feeling you get in your stomach or

the weekends over I've got to go to work on Monday just in a few hours time and

you get that month at listlessness you feel listless which means you don't have

much energy and you're unhappy about having to start the working week all

over again another a similar phrase to that would

be the Monday morning blues the Monday morning blues

now if you get the blues generally that just means you're a bit unhappy

depressed sad lacking in energy you get the blues and there's a whole musical

genre based on the blues sad music if you're feeling sad

you've got the blues and if you get the Monday morning blues you wake up on

Monday morning well I've got to start work I've got the blues

Monday morning blues apparently I was looking at this if you want to not get

the Monday morning blues you're very close to mr. Duncan then there are a few

little things that you can do to help mitigate that or to help it go away get

a good night's sleep on Sunday night go to bed early Sunday night eat breakfast

on Monday morning plan ahead on Sunday night so you know what you're doing on

Monday morning and don't live for the weekends ie just live or during the week

and don't think that just the weekends that's all you've got to look forward to

apparently these are little ways that you can overcome those Monday morning

blues

so that's phrases associated with week the week mmm now we've got ones or days

now we've got ones to do that do you want a break yes do you want to do your

poem because I cuz Steve Steve actually has a lovely poem all to do to do with

everything do I it's best one here a days of the

week yes now I'm gonna put it on the screen

as well because it's quite a nice poem this you can read it from your paper

a bit blyve I don't know when I was born but what what what is Blythe it's again

it's one of those archaic words that you never hear ship no because it's in many

songs I think it isn't it why the bird isn't it bright could be isn't good

right bright and uplifting I'm sure it is you should know this mr. Duncan

before you it's not a word I've ever used in my life maybe somebody can look

it up on Wikipedia live or google it and tell us what Blythe means or a

dictionary dictionaries are useful you don't always have to look for things on

it's just a general term but I think I think it means uplifting somebody tell

us yes it's not it's one of those old-fashioned words they're very

old-fashioned we don't really use it anymore there was a movie called Blithe

Spirit which was all about a car of the same name blithe spirit wasn't it about

a boat was it a boats I thought it is about a car oh you're doing well today

mystic it's really about a boat is it happy in without worry you were right

yes sir cheerful yes thank you very much yes who wrote the poem mr. Duncan I

don't know you read it out where you gave it me to read answer I don't know

who wrote it always see I'm not sure actually who wrote the because I think

that's actually a very old poem it almost comes across like a proverb

do you think if it's got the word gay in it it's quite old because we don't tend

to use that word anymore I mean happy but it's not gay with the y-ye

well that's a girl's name isn't it but I think it's also the the old spelling

they alts pay spelling of the word to be happy so it's maybe maybe blithe to be

happy to be cheerful yes I think I think maybe the meanings are very similar I

with our talk of relationships although I want to save most of that because we

have Valentine's Day coming next month and we will discuss similar topics then

it's already Monday in Japan yes it's already tomorrow how is tomorrow in

Japan talking of Japan there is something I want to mention and I think

Sergio will get really annoyed now because I'm going to mention China when

I lived in China and it's nearly 16 years Steve 16 years since I went to

China got somebody in China watching us by the way I noticed earlier I can't

believe it's been 16 years but when I was there there was one particular type

of food that I used to love eating and I'm going to show it to you now can you

guess what it is Steve sushi sushi in China

oh no that's Japan isn't it yes so yeah yeah was it pickled garlic no you're in

the right area but I did I did like pickled garlic they used to they used to

put garlic in in vinegar and and it would go soft and I used to eat that all

the time when I was in China but here's something else that I used to love as

well and it is a thing I'm very very keen on it is not a Chinese product it

is actually a Japanese product and I'm sure if you are watching in Japan you

will know straightaway what this is so this is something called QP Kewpie

mayonnaise and it's actually made in Japan but it is sold widely across China

as well and I used to absolutely love this

product so much I used to put it on everything especially on bread hosed to

have bread and I would put loads of Kewpie mayonnaise and there were two

types there was a there was a salty mayonnaise and that's the one on the

left and on the right my favorite which was the sweet of course we know how you

like sugar sweet mayonnaise and the sweet mayonnaise was my favorite I used

to love that I used to eat so much of the sweetness taste like mayonnaise we

have here no and the reason why it tastes different is because this

particular mayonnaise you can see now is made only with egg yolks oh so they use

just the yolk not the whole egg so the taste is very very delicious it has a a

very specific taste very it's much nicer than the mayonnaise here I'll be honest

but you can't get it here in this country so they make it in Europe but I

think it's manufactured in I want to say the Netherlands I think they make it

there but it isn't available here in the UK so I'm very disappointed so that's

that's probably that one of the things that I miss most of all from my time in

Japan China is is that particular brat and the pickled garlic

oh yes pickled garlic my gosh absolutely gorgeous so I thought I would share that

with you now Steve you have some some words to do with month on your couples I

believe but thank you brother Wei Sergio for your comment oh what's that just

between me and Sergio don't worry what did Sergio say I think nothing I'm

think sometimes you have to repeat things Steve is enjoying that by the way

yes that's what we would say this sort of

this sort of top you would say it was a short sleeve shirt yes

so the t-shirt has short sleeves I mean I'm wearing short sleeves yeah yes means

as opposed to long sleeves whereas I I'm wearing my Freddy Krueger

shirt today so I have a t-shirt with a long shirt underneath so long sleeve but

normally when we say shorts these we're referring to it more and more about like

a work shirt with a collar it would put a tie on and but you can get like a

white shirt for work I cut with a collar and a tie but if you work in hot

climates you would have short sleeve shirts you would probably wouldn't call

this a short so you sure to search no nobody call out a tee shirt it's just a

t-shirt which generally have short sleeves anyway when we refer to a short

sleeve shirt or wearing short sleeves it normally means a traditional collar

white shirt with a collar you would normally wear a tie with yeah which you

can get with long sleeves and a cup and a cuff yes or you can get in short

sleeves which you would wear in the summer so normally so you wear a shirt

and tie but in the summer just to just so you don't get too hot you wear a

short sleeve and of course children the when you go to school you would wear a

smart shirt with a collar and you would describe that as being in short the

children were in short sleeves right yes I have a couple of words to do with

month good ok then we will would you like to

go on to your your private camera tell me when to move so it looks professional

ok you mean you may move across right now just trying to look cute

right what's the first one flavor of the month flavor of the month this is or in

the US you would not spell flavor like that that is the the UK spelling you

would just miss out the he would just be Fla vor if we were in the United States

of America so there we go so a flavor of the month refers to something or someone

that enjoys a short period of great popularity flavor of the month so it's

transient so you you're popular or something's popular for a short period

of time might not be a month but we'll say it that's that that's just what the

phrase that's just the phrase flavor of the month something that's transient

something that doesn't last very long that's celebrity for example that

celebrity is on every TV show at the moment oh she must be flavor of the

month so a celebrity that you suddenly see everywhere and then in a few months

time or a month time that you don't see them anymore

because they're not popular anymore that new English teacher on YouTube is flavor

of the month at the moment but it won't be long before everybody returns back to

watching mr. Duncan do you like that thank you see you're

not flavor of the month you're there all the time you're popular all the time

this is true I am definitely not flavor of the month been around for 13 years

yes early this year 13 years yes bobby's flavor flavor of the month at the office

at the moment because he got that new big deal with the company so he's

popular at the moment because he had some success but if he doesn't have any

more success he won't be popular flavor of the month

are you flavour of the work month there we go so here's another phrase a month

of Sundays a month of Sundays so this is like a you

can prefix this with with never or not and it's a phrase used to suggest

something it's a is to suggest that something may not happen or there's a

very low chance of it happening so for example well our son ever clean out his

room not in a month of Sundays could be your reply so you mean that he's

probably never going to clean out his room obviously a month of Sundays is

four weeks but it doesn't literally mean four weeks it can mean never so here's

another example never in a month of Sundays did I think our team would win

the World Cup or never in a month of Sundays did I think we'd win the lottery

just means something you never thought would happen but it can mean it can

means a shorter period of time so you might say what haven't been to that part

of town for a month of Sundays or I haven't been to that shop for a month of

Sundays so it doesn't mean you've never been and it just means you haven't been

for a few months maybe so it literally could mean it never it never literally

means for weeks but it could mean short period of time or it could mean never a

month of Sundays that's the two words I've got mr. Duncan but I've got one

little controversial thing okay controversial now I was talking about

this earlier sometimes we say things that some people might disagree with so

I don't know what Steve is about to say I so I feel a little nervous I'm being

I'm being risky here because we've had arguments over this before mr. Duncan

we're thinking about days of the week we have Oh No Oh No put me back to the main

camera mr. Duncan oh no I know what Steve is going to say do you oh yes I'm

going to pose the question on which day of the week does the week start

on which day of the week does the week start ah look at mr. Duncan

well we've had arguments about this before is it Monday

or is it Sunday the first day of the week is Monday well according to the

international standard you are correct mr. Duncan Monday is the start of the

work according to the international standard oh so I'm right yes

but depending on your culture depending on your tradition or where you

live or your own personal choice Monday can be the start of the week but if you

it depends on religious aspects as well because traditionally Sunday was the day

of rest in the Christian Church and it's the Sabbath it's the Sabbath it well

exactly the Sunday so some a lot of people including my mother for example

will still recognize Sunday's the first day of the week but if you look at most

printed calendars in Europe the Week starts on a Monday the calendars start

on a Monday following the international standard but in America in most of

America if you look at a calendar although the the start of the working

week may be a start of the week maybe a Monday the calendars tend to start on

Sunday as being the first day the week apparently that's just the printed

calendar it's it's confusing yes the Bible says it's Sunday mr. Duncan of

course we're not necessarily following religious but yes because that orders

that seen as the day of rest the Sabbath well in Portugal Sunday's seen as the

first day of the week so all religions have their own holy days as it is in

Australia and in the Jewish calendar yes but the Sabbath is Saturday but in

some cultures in the - in Judaism the Sabbath is Saturday yeah but the

first I'm just talking about April we're arguing already I'm just talking about

what is classes the first day that we yes but in josh'll standard is Monday

okay fine but depending on on what you believe in or religious connotations or

your tradition you might think of it as being Sunday yes think of it - yeah

bit of an act and of course Saturday and Sunday I'm known as the week and yes we

are trying to say that the last day of the week in in religious term so Friday

on Sunday in Christianity generally we see that as the Sabbath

I think Catholicism as well yeah anyway it depends on where you what if you're

an atheist if you're in America apparently most is there anyone from

America watching what's your printed calendar yes start

on Sunday because according to what I've read it does well if that doesn't mean

it's the start of the week no no it just means the calendar is print if you can't

get a bit confusing if explain this already I'm explaining it now mr.

what about atheists when when does the working week start for them that would

be Monday when they're following the international standard okay so the

international standard would be the same thing okay then we don't all follow

true the Ides of March okay now nobody really referred to this

everyone it's seen in in Julius Caesar which is where this phrase

comes from in one of Shakespeare's plays the Ides of March refers to the 15th of

March mm-hmm and when we say the Ides of a month we mean the middle The Ides

means the middle of a month it's not a phrase that we use anymore it's a very

old-fashioned phrase of course it was used in in Julius Caesar's in the play

Julius Caesar to describe a because the 15th of March in Roman times was a

significant day for various religious region reasons and it was the day when

he had to pay all your debts off yeah so it was a specific day it's not not

something that we use anymore today but it was never seen as being anything

dangerous but of course in Julius Caesar the play it was seen as a warning when

Caesar is going to die it was a warning from a soothsayer yes like a medium

somebody who thinks I can see into the future fortune-teller yeah somebody who

thinks they can see into the future bit of Shakespeare where the Ides of March

but of course it wasn't used to signify anything bad taking place before

Shakespeare wrote that play so if you hear the phrase the Ides of March

it's nothing significant apart from in Shakespeare's play yeah it's a Caesar

yeah Julius Caesar is that I digress Caesar oh dear is that a dagger I see
