It's not easy to become liked

it's quite hard to be wanted

the thought of people hating you

is not want to be confronted

you try to charm the crowd

you put on a really good show

but when the people look at you

they give a resounding no

you can't please all the audience

this much is very true

but there is nothing more disparaging

than when the crowd starts to hiss and boo

some of us have charm and wit

and always do things right

While others put off or divide the crowd

and are referred to as marmite

there is a very interesting expression

that is often used in British English

it is used to describe something

that is loved and hated in equal amounts

a thing that divides the audience

or Society might be described

as being Marmite

this particular product is a thing

that can be bought in the supermarket

some people love it whilst others hate it

some people enjoy the taste of it

whilst others find it disgusting

something that is described as being like Marmite

is a thing that is liked by some people

and disliked by as many people

it divides the audience

it is something that you  either enjoy straight away

or you hate

it is like Marmite

one of the things I've learned doing this

over the many many years

that I've been here on YouTube

is that I am a little bit like Marmite

some people hate me

and some people enjoy what I do in equal amounts

it is just like Marmite

you either love it or hate it

so in British English when there is something

that divides opinion

or maybe something that is

liked and disliked in equal amounts

we describe it as being

just like Marmite

you either love it or hate it.
