here we are oh my goodness do you like surprises  i don't know about you but i love surprises  

especially when they are nice surprises for  example maybe your favourite youtuber decides  

to come on and do a live stream oh what a  lovely surprise here we are then yes it is  

english addict it is a special surprise live  stream i hope you are feeling good today hmm

i wonder how many people have realized that there  is actually a live stream happening today well  

it is a surprise i love surprises hi everybody  this is mr duncan in england how are you today  

are you okay i hope so are you happy i really  hope you are feeling happy today i'm feeling okay  

i was in a good mood this morning i thought um  what shall i do i know what i'm going to do i'm  

going to have a surprise live stream and here we  are now i have a feeling that there won't be many  

people watching but that's all right as long as  you are here that's all that matters to be honest

you see that's all it matters  it is you and i and everyone  

who has been notified by youtube and let's  be honest that is not many people oh oh we're  

actually broadcasting in full high definition  today i can't believe it now for the past couple  

of years i've actually been broadcasting in  720p but today we are in wonderful crisp 1080p

full high definition 60 frames per second i know  what you're thinking you're thinking mr duncan i  

don't care about those things i've just come here  to listen to you speak english i've just come here  

to improve my english i don't care what your  definition is or your resolution on your screen  

okay then okay calm down calm down it's a new year  let's all start off as we mean to go on which is  

in a lovely relaxed way one thing i've noticed  at this time of year you often find there are  

certain types of advertisement especially  on television and perhaps on the internet  

gyms there are many companies now trying  to get new members to their gymnasiums also

dieting yes i know it this time of year many  people are trying to lose weight and the reason is  

quite clear because during christmas and during  the seasonal holiday quite a few of you have  

i know what you're going to say you've eaten too  much and i am one of them i am i am one of them i  

have eaten far too much food during the christmas  period although surprisingly i haven't put put  

much weight on i've only gained a little bit of  weight so not much so i think for me it might  

be easy for me to lose the little bit of weight  that i've gained but at this time of year lots  

of people are thinking that maybe they need to  lose some weight perhaps they have to go to the  

gym or maybe they need to do some more exercise or  perhaps they need to change their diet completely  

so that's the thing i noticed just before starting  today i noticed there are lots of advertisements  

here on youtube encouraging people to go to the  gym to lose weight with a healthy diet and also

dating sites as well have you ever used a dating  site now come on be honest have you ever been on  

tinder or there is another one called harmony  e-harmony i think that's a very famous one  

there's also another one matchmakers where you can  match people together so what you do you go to the  

website and you put all of your information in to  the computer into their server and they will come  

up with the perfect match for you have you ever  done that have you ever gone on to the internet  

to find some true love have you be honest and i  i know i i will be honest with you in the past  

many years ago before the internet people  used to put things in the newspapers  

we used to call it the lonely heart column and  quite often at the back of the newspaper you would  

see lots of lonely people looking for mr or mrs  or miss right so when you are looking for mr right  

or miss right you are looking for that perfect  partner so i remember many years ago people  

used to search for their perfect mate or their  partner through an advertisement in the newspaper  

quite often at the back and it was all it  was always the same sort of thing gentleman

that's how that's how men would  normally start their advertisement  

in the lonely heart section gentlemen mid-40s  seeks woman around the age of 30 to 35  

so the man would always be looking for  a younger lady a younger woman to date  

you might notice this but the other thing of  course the other thing that happens quite often  

when people are dating is they will lie about  their age it happens a lot i think i think men

i know what you're going to say mr duncan  that's very cruel and unfair but i think men  

lie about their age more than women i know it's  i'm not trying to be controversial but i think  

men often lie about their age even though they  they say they don't but i think men are worse  

than women i think women quite often are quite  quite honest about their age if you ask them  

how old they are or if they are putting their  name and their details on a lonely heart club  

they will often be honest about their age but  i think men men often lie about their age they  

might be 50 but they might say that they are 42.  so men often will take about 10 years of their age  

if they are looking for a partner i think so it  does happen it does happen quite a lot maybe more  

often than we realize oh the other advert that  i'm seeing a lot on youtube i don't know why is

psychic services why why  are there so many psychics  

advertising at the moment on youtube i don't  know why i have seen lots of adverts for  

psychics so maybe someone who is starting the  new year and they're not sure what lies ahead  

for them maybe they will get in touch with  a psychic person or should i say a psychic  

person they are psychic they can see into the  future so there are a lot of people who might be  

a little unsure perhaps anxious at the start of  the year maybe they want to know what will happen  

what their fate will be during 2021 or by the  way happy new year if i haven't said happy new  

year to you already can i say happy new year  to you now yes we have a new year everyone how  

has 2022 been for you so far has it been good for  you or has it been a load of rubbish don't worry  

we are only five days into the new  year so don't worry things could  

get better yes we are all here  together again and yes it is wednesday

brand new year and apparently a lot of people  are already looking for that special person  

on the internet internet dating there is  also i suppose do people still have blind  

dates do people still go on blind dates have  you ever been on a blind date where you actually  

meet a person and you know nothing about them  you are just meeting them without seeing them  

without knowing them so you decide to meet up  and have a chat maybe you could call it a date  

i don't think you would call it a date  i think dating is when two people are  

going out together and perhaps they will  become closer but i think a blind date  

isn't really a date because you don't know the  person it's a surprise like everything today you  

see so so i don't just throw this together all  of this is carefully planned it really is it's  

like a rubik's cube you have to turn the cube  around and around until everything is revealed  

and that's what's happening today so a blind  date i have to be honest i've never been  

on a blind date never i have been on some  websites where people are looking for love  

don't tell mr steve will you but it was purely for  research honestly it was but don't tell mr steve

it had been the reason why i started learning  english oh i was looking for a partner and

but the new year starts relatively well although  in italy the government is deciding whether to  

force people to take the vaccine yes well i  suppose this is one of the things many people have  

been talking about over the past couple of weeks  certainly leading up to christmas as christmas  

was approaching lots of people were  wondering what would happen so here  

in the uk it would appear that very little is  going to change we have some lockdown rules  

some isolation rules but at the moment we  are not forcing people to have the vaccine  

we are not forcing them of course in certain  situations such as their job if a person has a job  

where they are dealing with sick people or people  who are elderly then they must take the vaccine  

but that is the same of course for people who  are traveling abroad if you travel to certain  

you have to take certain vaccines  

it is the law you have to take them so if you are  traveling to a country where a certain disease  

is prevalent or often occurs then you have to  take that certain vaccine before you can travel  

to the country so there are technically  travel passports that require vaccinations

but we are not talking about covid in that  situation we are talking about other diseases  

besides that palmyra says i like your blue  shirt i can't begin to tell you how much trouble  

this shirt and this hat has caused me a lot  of trouble as you know quite often i use  

my green screen in my studio and because  of these colours it was very hard  

to use the green screen today so i had to make  i had to make lots of technical changes so this  

lovely shirt and this hat have actually caused  lots of problems for me today lots of technical  

problems unfortunately oh we also have one  of our lovely regular viewers louis mendes

i had a lovely surprise last sunday after my live  stream finished i have received a lovely donation

you might be surprised to find out that many  of the clothes i wear are very old they're  

quite old so this shirt i've had this shirt for  maybe 10 years nine years perhaps so i've had  

this shirt for a long time the hat however is  only a couple of years old so i've had the hat  

for two years i've had the shirt for around maybe  nine years perhaps even 10. so quite a long time

victoria is talking about the vaccination program  probably in italy people over 60 will have to have  

the jab for covid yes it would appear that some  countries are taking stricter or stronger action  

some some countries are forcing people some people  are complaining about that so some countries are  

forcing mandatory vaccinations  that is a very interesting word  

mandatory if something is mandatory it means it  must be done you have to follow that rule or face

the consequences a very controversial subject  at the moment hello laura mr duncan you are  

a collector of clothing i'm not sure about that  i don't buy much clothing to be honest i'm not a  

person who always goes out to buy new clothes i  like to keep my clothes for as long as possible

decided not to have the vaccine some people have  decided not to have the third vaccine although  

our government at the moment is is trying  to encourage as many people as possible  

to have what they call the booster jab  booster i love that word by the way  

boost to boost something is to make  something larger or stronger or  

more effective so that's the reason why they are  referring to the third jab as a booster booster

i am not going to get into the the yes or the no  about vaccines i'm not going to state my opinion

but it is nice to have a choice hello also oh we  have oh we have luis mendes who says hello luis

apparently lewis is very glad to see everyone here  today well i i have a little surprise i don't know  

if you saw on sunday but i had a lovely surprise  last week i'm going to show the picture very  

quickly some of my lovely viewers got together  last week last thursday some of my lovely viewers  

got together beatriz claudia sandra and maria all  got together and met up and this gave me an idea  

in fact mr steve and myself were talking about  this last sunday we were talking about the  

possibility of doing some sort of get together so  when you have a get together we we use that as a  

way of describing people coming together meeting  up normally it is people who have never met before  

so we were talking about this last sunday and  perhaps we might do a meet-up or a get-together  

this year or more likely next year so i think it  is more likely that we will have a meet-up in 2023  

i don't think it's going to happen this year if  i was completely honest with you i don't think so  

but i think it's a good idea what do you think  having some sort of get together now i know  

for many years here on youtube many of the big  youtubers have had meetups sometimes five or ten  

twenty or maybe a hundred people all meeting up  together from youtube so we will see what happens  

we might not do it here in england but we might  actually do it somewhere in europe maybe france  

that is the place we were talking about on sunday  so we might actually do it in france we will see  

there is nothing and planned at the moment  there is nothing planned at the moment but  

at the moment it's in my  head we will see what happens  

christina mr duncan what about your new year's  resolutions which one did you choose from mr steve  

oh you remember yes last sunday mr steve gave  me some new year's resolutions that i have to  

choose well first of all i have been doing  exercise i have been taking walks so i am  

doing that as i said at the start of today's  live stream i am trying my best to to lose  

that little bit of weight that i've gained  

so i have put a little bit of weight on not much  just a little so yes i am having regular exercise

the only thing i'm thinking of at the  moment is whether mr steve will follow my  

suggestions to him so i also gave steve some  new year's resolutions as well one of them  

was to stop complaining about my snoring  and can you believe it this morning  

steve was complaining about my snoring he was so  he's not even following that and i think that's a  

very simple one that is a very simple resolution  it's nothing too difficult but steve said this  

morning duncan you were snoring i could hear you  the house was shaking your snoring was so loud

thank you that's very kind of you to say i try  my best after all that is all we can do all we

then we will get into today's subject which  is all about surprises do you like surprises

a lot of people are doing the  puddle dance at the moment  

mainly because we have had  so much rain here in england

i am going to get so many complaints mr duncan  why did you do a live stream without telling us  

i thought it would be a lovely surprise i  thought you would enjoy the surprise today  

so that's the reason why i'm doing it talking of  surprises we are talking all about surprises today  

words connected with surprise ways of expressing  surprise and more importantly have you ever been  

surprised by something so i suppose it's fair  to say that surprise is not always a good thing  

i will be talking about that a little bit later  on so we are discussing surprises which is why  

i've decided to do a surprise for  you today do you like surprises  

do you like to have a surprise maybe something  you weren't expecting a thing that suddenly  

appeared maybe something you heard you found  out or maybe something that was given to you  

maybe a special gift maybe a little treat  perhaps your partner decided to give you a nice  

surprise i think you know what i'm talking about  there do you like surprises do you like them  

have you ever received a nice surprise i suppose a  good example is last week when those lovely girls  

sent me a photograph of their little secret meetup  so i had no idea that that was going to happen i  

had no idea i didn't know about it i was really  surprised when i received a message telling me  

that some of my viewers were meeting up i was  so surprised in fact i didn't find out about it  

until after it had happened so it happened on  thursday but i didn't hear about it until the  

following day so i had no idea that those girls  those lovely viewers were going to meet up but  

it has inspired me and mr steve we  might do it ourselves we might arrange  

some sort of meetup some sort  of get-together either this year  

or i think it's going to be 2023 to be honest  i think it will be next year i don't think it's  

going to happen this year because things  are still a little bit crazy in the world  

i only like nice surprises says christina well i  suppose so i think most people prefer to have nice  

surprises so when we talk about surprise  we are we are actually describing an event  

that occurs without any warning so a surprise is  an event a thing that happens without any warning  

it happens it occurs but you were not expecting it  it is something that came as a surprise we might  

also say that a surprise is a moment where no  prior warning was given before that thing occurs

no prior warning you didn't know it was going  to happen it was a surprise i love the feeling  

of surprise i don't know why i think surprise is  not just something you see but it's also something  

you really feel as well so you might see that a  person appears surprised you might see something  

that surprises you and of course you will feel  it it is a very deep emotional feeling i think so  

so surprise is something that yes i think  it is something that happens with no prior  

warning the word prior means previous  so something that happened earlier  

something that occurred earlier is prior  prior before that moment or previous  

or before that thing occurred so maybe a  person knew about something or they know  

about something before it happens but if you don't  know about it you can say that you have no prior  

knowledge it means you didn't know i didn't know  that was going to happen i had no prior knowledge  

i had no knowledge before that event  occurred a surprise can be nice or  

unpleasant pleasing or distressing so there are  two different types of surprise a nice surprise  

something that you weren't expecting but it has  made you feel happy and pleasant and excited  

and of course you can have an unpleasant surprise  maybe something happens that that has made you  

feel unhappy or sad or upset so yes unfortunately  surprises can be good but sadly they can also be  

bad a birthday surprise might be a secretly  planned party or an unexpected gift from  

someone so you can have a surprise gift or  a surprise party to celebrate your birthday  

and lots of people do this especially if the  birthday is an important one maybe it is your  

18th so many people here in the uk will celebrate  their 18th birthday with a special party  

or maybe 21st birthday and of course we have  what we call landmark birthdays maybe you are 30

or like mr steve last year mr steve last year  he celebrated his 60th birthday last year 60  

mr steve was last year a lot of people don't  believe it but he is mr steve is now 60.  

he will be 61 in a few days time on i think it's  february the 16th is when mr steve's birthday is

so i gave mr steve a little birthday surprise last  year for his landmark birthday because last year  

he was celebrating his 60th birthday so quite  often we will do that we will have a special  

celebration for our birthday if it is a certain  age let's just say you might also have a surprise  

trip a surprise trip might be an unexpected  holiday to a far off place have you ever had  

a surprise trip maybe your partner or one of your  friends decides to take you away to a lovely place  

to take you on holiday it can happen especially  in relationships sometimes the husband might  

treat his wife to a surprise holiday or a  surprise trip to somewhere lovely and warm

the word distress yes it's a very interesting  word actually distress distress means upset  

something that upsets another thing you  cause distress maybe you are causing  

stress to something maybe your shirt or  maybe a piece of material you can distress  

an object you are pulling and pushing it you  are causing stress on that thing so distress  

can be something you do to an object or to a  person so a person can become distressed it  

means they become upset anxious and quite often it  is an emotional response to something unpleasant

you might have a surprise visit oh have  you ever received a visit from someone  

but you weren't expecting them to arrive or  visit you a surprise visit might occur where a  

person you've never seen in person or someone  you have not seen for a long time suddenly  

visits you so maybe a person you've never met  before you've only spoken to them through email  

or maybe you've only seen photographs of them but  then suddenly they come to visit you imagine that  

imagine having a knock at your door and then  you open the door and it's one of your friends  

someone you've never met before in person but  they are there in front of you it might be a  

nice surprise it might be a big surprise so yes  you can get all sorts of surprises i think so  

a nice surprise brings joy and happiness while  a nasty surprise brings anger and sadness  

so there are two different types of surprise  a nice surprise and an unpleasant or nasty  

surprise we often refer to a negative surprise as  nasty i had a nasty surprise sudden bad news is a  

nasty surprise you suddenly received some terrible  news news that you were not expecting maybe  

one of your friends has become ill maybe they've  gone into hospital maybe a member of your family  

has become ill or maybe someone you know has  passed away so sudden bad news is a nasty surprise  

a shocking discovery or revelation brings an  unpleasant surprise something you didn't know  

may be about a person and then you find  out about that particular thing we call it  

a revelation something that has that has been  revealed something that has been suddenly exposed

i'm not sure what i'm talking  about there a shocking discovery or  

revelation a revelation is something maybe  a secret maybe something you didn't know  

but now you do and you feel  shocked and surprised by it

so sometimes a surprise can be shocking

you might say that a surprise  comes out of the blue it comes from  

the sky or it appears to so we often say that  a surprise comes out of the blue it comes like  

a bolt from the blue it comes out of the  blue it was not expected so quite often a  

surprise is something that suddenly appears or  happens something you suddenly find out about  

a nasty surprise can be described as a  shock a blow a bombshell a shocker something  

is startling so a startling revelation is  shocking something you found out is shocking it is  

startling a nasty surprise is a shock and of  course we can say that it leaves you feeling  

shocked so the feeling of having a bad surprise  or a nasty surprise quite often is described as

shock you are shocked you are shocked by the news  you are shocked by the revelation the thing you  

have found out about you might say that someone  is full of surprises a person can be described as  

being full of surprises they have lots of hidden  talents or abilities so maybe a person who always  

manages to surprise you maybe with something  they can do maybe they have a hidden talent  

maybe there is something that they decide to do to  give you a surprise you might describe a certain  

person as being full of surprises you might  say that i sometimes can be full of surprises  

like today so you weren't expecting to see me  today here on youtube but here i am you might  

say mr duncan sometimes you are full of surprises  so what about you do you like surprises have  

you ever received a surprise a nice surprise a  surprise that has made you feel happy or cheerful

vitas has a joke i have noticed by the way over  the past couple of weeks vitas you have been  

telling lots of jokes on the live chat keeping  everyone here amused and cheerful for which i

will notice that many of the cars  on the road these days are white  

you will also notice that there are  many white vans as well who remembers  

the game that i used to play i think i played  it last year during one of my month of special  

live streams and we used to try and spot the  white van who remembers that that was last year
