Live from England - What is the worst drink on a hot day?🥤

Well, it has happened

this morning.

We had the highest temperature ever

in England.

I've been told that I can't mention how hot it is.

Well, I think it's going to be very hard not to mention it, because basically

this is what this particular live stream is all about.

Welcome to the hottest day ever in England.

If you were watching yesterday, I did mention that it might be getting hotter.

Well, today, apparently, we are having the peak of the hot weather.

We are now hitting the peak of the heat,

which means that I couldn't resist coming outside and doing a live stream.

I hope you can see and hear me all right.

We did have some technical problems yesterday because my phone was overheating.

It was getting so hot, my phone would not function.

Anyway, I've decided to do something very brave.

I've come outside.

It is now around 37

degrees, 37 Celsius near where I'm standing.

Isn't that lovely?

But somewhere in England

we have had the highest temperature ever.

30? No, 35? No.

40.2 cells.

Yes. Was recorded this morning.

In fact, when I woke up this morning, I noticed that the temperature was already 20,

28 or 29 degrees, and that was at around about 8:00 this morning.

It was so hot.

Right now it is around 37.

It's pretty hot.

It feels unbelievably hot.

Can I just say in the house, it is unbearable.

Absolutely unbearable.

Now, I have received a few emails from people.

Some of you have been criticising me saying, Mr.

Duncan, if you think you are having hot weather,

you should come to our country.

So I have received some emails and some messages

saying that I should stop complaining about the weather because it's not really hot.

Well, I suppose

the reason why we are all talking about it

is because we don't normally get such high

temperatures here in England.

So I think that's the reason why.

And also, I suppose you could you should remember

that there are people around

who are not used to this type of temperature.

The elderly. The very young.

And don't forget the animals.

One thing you will notice, there are no birds anywhere.

That shows you how hot it is because there are no birds anywhere.

Even the pigeons are having a rest

from their mating.

Even the pigeons have given up.

So, you know, it's hot because at this time of the year, all of the male pigeons

are really, really horny and they won't stop trying to find

their perfect girl pigeon.

And that is the reason why you cannot see

or hear the pigeons at the moment, because they are nowhere to be seen.

All of the birds are hiding in the trees, in the shade.

They are keeping themselves away from the hot sunlight.

Another thing I want to mention yesterday.

Can you believe it?

During my few minutes out here underneath the gazebo.

So I was in the shade yesterday.

I actually got sunburnt on my neck.

The back of my neck became a little sore.

In fact, it is at the back.

So even though I wasn't actually in the sunshine yesterday.

So it is possible to get sunburned

without actually going into the direct sunlight.

So that is something I learnt

yesterday.

I know that sunlight can travel.

Or should I say the UV light can bounce off the surface of things.

But I was quite surprised yesterday.

Well, yesterday evening when I realised that I had sunburn

and I hadn't spent any time in the direct sunlight.

Very strange.

So it is hot today.

We have well here not as hot.

It isn't 40 degrees here.

But apparently down at.

Where was it?

I think it was Heathrow Airport.

Now, I think that is cheating.

If I was honest with you, I think that is cheating

because when you think about it, airports are normally large

open spaces, especially where the runway is.

So I would imagine it always gets hot there,

even when you have a normal summer day.

But apparently 40.2

Celsius is the temperature at the moment.

Or it was earlier at Heathrow Airport.

The question today, I suppose, is what is the worst thing

you can drink on a hot day?

I can think of at least two things that are really awful.

If you if you are thirsty, even if you are gasping

for your last ever breath,

you will not drink these particular things.

Now my choices are

pineapple juice.

I don't know about you, but I hate pineapple juice.

I think pineapple juice must be the worst thing ever invented.

It is. It's horrible.

I think pineapple juice is so disgusting.

So imagine on a hot day like this,

if you are outside and you are feeling thirsty.

I would not.

I wouldn't.

I wouldn't drink pineapple juice even if my life depended on it.

The other thing that people drink at this time of year and I don't know how they do it.

Ginger beer,

I think Ginger beer is one of the worst things ever.

It is horrible.

It's like drinking curry.

Ginger beer is very spicy.

It's it has a very strange flavour and also taste

and the effect as you swallow it is also rather unpleasant.

So two things I would never drink on a hot day.

Pineapple juice, which is horrible.

Especially warm.

Pineapple juice. Can you imagine that?

I think

I would definitely say no.

No, thank you. I do not want.

I do not want your pineapple juice.

And I do not want your ginger beer.

But I do have my drink here.

You can see here I have some lovely blackcurrant juice

and I put the blackcurrant juice in water.

And also it is straight from the fridge.

So this has been in the fridge all night

and now it is ice cold.

So that is what I'm drinking today.

Not only is it cold, it is also

fresh juice as well with a little bit of water.

Also very important on a day like this to drink plenty of water.

And that's what I'm doing at the moment.

That is amazing.

So I think this is one of the nicest things to drink.

Maybe some fresh orange juice,

perhaps with some water and maybe some ice cubes.

You definitely have to have ice

cubes in your drink, whatever

it is.

We have had

the hottest temperature ever recorded added.

So don't forget this is just recorded temperatures.

I'm not sure.

When we actually started recording the temperature in this country,

but this apparently is the hottest ever recorded.

Now, I remember way back in

1976.

I know it's a long time ago, but I remember in 1976

we had one of the hottest periods of weather ever.

But it wasn't as hot as this.

I think it was around 33 or 34 Celsius.

But that was way back in 1976.

And here in the UK, everywhere was hot

and the heatwave continued for many, many days.

I think it was three or four weeks or maybe five weeks of intense heat

and the situation was so bad

we had to we had to ration the water.

There was a water shortage in 1976.

Fortunately, things at the moment are not that bad,

even though in some parts of the country there is a slight

shortage of water in certain places.

But certainly nothing as serious as it was in 1976.

So that was the last time we had any serious drought.

I like that word drought.

If you have a drought, it means you have a shortage of water,

normally drinking water.

It's not good.

You do not want to be in a situation where there is not enough water to drink,

especially when the weather is like today.

It will try to cool down, which normally puts a lot of stress on your body

and it can cause you to become dizzy,

disorientated, or even collapse

to the ground.

It can do that.

there is a large hill.

there are no people there at the moment.

I had a look just before I started my live stream.

I had a look and I noticed that there are no people

at the top of that large hill.

No one is up there.

I had a little look through my binoculars

about 20 minutes ago and there was no one there.
