Before we get any further into today's

live stream, I have a question for you.

Something we all have to do every single day.

No, not that.

And not that either.

Waking up.

Waking up in the morning.

Some people find it very hard to wake up in the morning.

Some people don't want to wake up too early, even though they have to.

Even though they have to go to work.

Or maybe they have an important appointment that they must keep.

Nobody really likes getting up in the morning.

However,

we must do it.

Even me

on average, I normally get up at around

about 8:00 in the morning.

However, this morning.

Can you believe this?

This morning I actually got up

at 5 a.m..

I came down here into my studio

and I did a little bit of preparation for today's live stream.

So I was up and about this morning at 5 a.m.

and the weather was absolutely glorious.

So that's one of the reasons why I got up early, because I couldn't resist.

I could see the sunlight starting

to come through the curtains of the bedroom.

However, sometimes it is not easy to wake up.

Sometimes we don't want to wake up in the morning.

We want to stay in bed.

We want to have a lovely lie in.

It is

that magic moment when you know that you don't have to go to work.

So a lot of people at the weekend, they will spend their mornings in bed.

Maybe they will have a cup of tea.

Perhaps they will read the daily paper in bed and then afterwards

maybe they will curl back up under the blankets

or under the duvet for another hour, or maybe 2 hours.

However, yes,

it is necessary for most of us to wake up at a certain time,

especially when we have to go to work, as I mentioned.

It is something we have to do in the morning.

However, how do you normally wake up?

How do you normally become

aroused in the morning?

When you open your eyes and the new day is beginning,

some people use an alarm clock.

Some people use

some other form of alarm.

Maybe they use their mobile phone.

Maybe they get some music

to play on their phone in the morning to wake them up.

Maybe something nice and calming.

Maybe a little bit of classical music.

Some people have a radio alarm clock next to the bed

so they can wake up to their favorite radio station,

or of course, the old fashioned way.

The alarm clock I used to have many years ago,

I had a mechanical alarm clock

and I would use that to wake me up in the morning.

But the only problem was it had such an annoying ring.

It really did.

And it used to ring ever so loud.

And I don't think I ever woke up

in a calm state.

So I think it is very important and in the morning to wake up

with a smile on your face and a positive attitude.

Although sometimes it isn't easy.

We can wake up in the morning.

Maybe we've had a bad dream or a nightmare

during our sleep time, or perhaps even.

And this is something that used to happen to me.

Many years ago I used to find it very hard

to get to sleep at night.

I used to find it very hard to actually drop off

and go into dreamland, to be honest.

But and this is always the way.

This is how it happens.

You can't get to sleep.

But when you finally get to sleep,

normally, there's only maybe an hour or 2 hours before you have to get up.

So I always used to find that I couldn't get to sleep.

I was restless.

I couldn't drop off.

I couldn't ease into that lovely, lovely land of slumber.

I found it very hard to do,

but I did manage

to solve that problem a few years later.

So I think it is a way of of bringing yourself

to a certain type of attitude to sleep because we do need it.

It is very important.

Some people neglect their sleep.

Some people can't get to sleep at night.

They become restless like I used to.

But these days I find that I do sleep very well.

But the problem now is waking up.

So I seem to have more difficulty these days.

Waking up in the morning.

So I normally use

some sort of method these days because summer has arrived.

I often find that nature wakes me up in the morning.

I think it's a nice way to wake up.

Actually, when you come round in the morning

and you realize that a new day has arrived and maybe the first thing you hear

is the sound of nature outside your window.

Or of course, as I said earlier, maybe the light,

the sunlight is starting to come through your curtains.

It does get light very early.

During the summer months here, So normally around about maybe 3:30,

4:00 in the morning, it will actually start to get light.

So we have very early sunrise during the summer months.

And of course, the sun

also disappears very late at night.

Normally around maybe 930,

945 at night, the sun will set.

So that is during the longest day, the longest day,

which I think is the 21st of June, if I remember correctly.

So what about you?

A lot of people were.

We're getting very excited here because we really did think that

because we were hosting the Eurovision Song Contest, we actually thought we might have a chance of winning.

We didn't.

We did not win

Sweden.

Sweden won.

I haven't actually heard the song because between you and me,

I know this might upset some people,

but I think we really feel very interested

in the Eurovision Song Contest.

If I was honest with you, I used to watch it many years ago

because it was a bit of fun, but now it's become so serious

and so political.

Originally, the Eurovision Song

Contest was all about people having fun, having a nice time

getting together and having some fun songs.

And then at the end of the contest, one country would win, and then the following year

the winning country would host the Eurovision Song Contest.

However, these days it has become too political.

It's just full of politics.

So there are always certain countries who will vote for their favored nation.

Whatever the song

sounds like, even if the song is the worst song ever.

Certain countries will vote for that one particular place.

So I have to say, I stopped watching the Eurovision Song

Contest a few years ago when it started to become political.

I didn't like it.

I think they actually ruined it, to be honest,

even though I'm sure it was very spectacular and a lot of fun.

And congratulations to Sweden, who will be the host

of next year's Eurovision Song Contest.

So how do you wake up in the morning?

Is there a method that you normally use

when you wake up in the morning?

Is there a way of waking up for you something special?

too. Of course, some people

find that in the morning they are disturbed, they are woken up.

I remember when I lived in China because lots of people

in China drive their cars

like crazy people.

They will often sound their horns

and quite often in the morning, the early morning

when people were setting off to work

for their their day, they would get in their cars and they

they would be so noisy with their engines and their horns.

And it always used to wake me up.

So I did find that the traffic

was quite annoying.

It would often wake me up even though I didn't actually always need to get up early.

To be honest.

So I think I think it is

a thing that some people find easy to do

and some people find hard to do.

They don't want to get up.

I remember when I used to work many years ago,

I had to get up quite early in the morning and I always hated it.

I hated it so much.

I really did not enjoy it.

I used to do that many years ago

So these days, I don't really listen to the radio very much,

which is strange because when I was very young,

I always dreamt of being a radio presenter.

I am normally back to sleep again.

Because a lot of people do that. I used to do it a lot.

I would wake up in the morning even if I had an alarm clock nearby,

I would sometimes wake up and I would press the button

on top of the alarm clock

and then immediately I would go back to sleep.

So I think if there was a contest between us,

who was the most patient, I think I would win.

Because you are quite impatient, especially when it comes

to things like technology and machinery.

I think maybe one of them or maybe two of them are the same cow as we had last year.

They came over to the fence of our house tonight.

That was an exciting high spot to the week.

And yes, I went out actually, because there's a on the border

on our border with that field, there is a hedge that I have to cut from the other side.

So in the field I have to stand in the field where the cows are

to cut it back successfully, which the owner doesn't mind, I hope.

But yes, I was looking out because normally when we get new cows,

they are very excited and they will sort of run up to you.

And I think they're just inquisitive.

I don't think they want to do you any harm, but it does make you feel a bit nervous.

So I was looking out to make sure when I was cutting back this hedge

that I wasn't being watched and pursued

by frisky young cows.

But anyway, they did.

Although I got over the fence,

I think they were looking at me because they came over mooing at me, didn't they? Mr.

Duncan They did, but as you say, they seem much friendlier because they normally

take a few weeks to settle down and get used to people, but they seem to be quite relaxed.

So we're very pleased about that. So that's the big news.

The cows are back.

We have some some new cows, some new bovine

animals to ride to watch, frolicking at the back.

And sometimes you might hear them as well.

You might hear the occasional news.

I think they're friendly because they came up to me

at when I was, you know, our side of the fence.

They came up to me, which then only takes them weeks and weeks to get used to that.

They came straight and they was looking at me

and in fact, they were inquisitive because they wanted to see what I'd done.

Because anything that looks like a plant, anything that looks like a plant that they could eat,

they get excited about it.

The longest clipping of all these things off the bush

and they must have thought they could eat them, which they can't.

So they were sniffing around, talking of nature.

So I was also another little moment of nature that we

we discovered by accident as we were walking along the road, we

we came across a little birdie,

a little tiny bird, this little chick.

But I suppose I might actually have a little contest here.

I might actually ask if anyone knows this small bird is.

So this is a chick that has come out of its nest

and it's having a little sleep there.

It thinks it's still in the nest, but does anyone know

what bird this is?

The little baby bird fresh from its nest.

Now, we weren't sure if it was if it was a bird

that came out of the nest too early, because it does look rather small.

And as you can see it, it doesn't seem to to want to be on camera.

And it certainly isn't aware how dangerous it is.

In fact, we found this in the middle of the road. Yeah.

Didn't mean its parents were trying to feed it.

Yes we have to talk about yeah, a couple of books by Richard Dawkins.

I'm a big fan of Richard Dawkins as well with his views, his also his his way

of explaining things such as because he is very much into

I know now what is his field now?

Is it is it biology?

It's I think it's it's animal biology or.

Yes, that's that's I think was his. Yes.

Because he always says that he's not a physicist.

It's a book.

I mean, biology is a broad subject, but I think it's well,

it's sort of its evolution, evolutionary biology.

so he

over the years, though, he's gone from that and he's become more

of a spokesperson for

how can I put this atheism, people who,

who are not religious.

Yeah.

And we've got a couple of books, the Blind Watchmaker,

which was a well-known book and also a TV series as well.

And of course, The God Delusion, which was a big bestseller.

And recently the I think it's something,

something about myths and fantasy

and the way all of these things came about as well.

So so Richard Dawkins has become quite an expert on many things,

but also he is quite often associated with the, I suppose, the atheist movement.

Definitely.

He's like this nice poster boy.

You would say that's a good phrase, a poster boy, somebody

that is sort of lauded and held up as a main proponent of something.

And in his case, it's atheist arguing

against the existence of a god.

But we've noticed.

Well, I was about to say he seems to have backed off

the interest, softened his approach to atheists now.

And I think this probably is for two reasons Steve he's he's getting on a bit.

I think the energy needed to debate this all the time.

And I think debating is a really hard thing to do.

It isn't easy to do that. Well, I yeah.

And also maybe because because he feels maybe threatened

by by what he says, maybe people have made threats towards him.

Well, he's a said that he can't feel as though he can speak out on certain issues anymore

because his life's been threatened, which is a very sad state of affairs.

I think we all know what's, going on there.

But, you know, it's interesting that we saw an interview with him recently

and rather than just in all previous interviews, okay.

If you you know, he's always vehemently says there is no God, that's it.

End of question. It's impossible.

But recently I've noticed he's saying, well, there's you know,

there's no

absolutes in science, which is what I've always said.

You can't absolutely say

that there isn't a God

where you can't you can't absolutely say anything when you think about it.

Yeah, well, that's it. So he we don't get into this subject today.

But it's interesting, not from Neeson's point of view.

If he if you read some of his earlier books,

he has softened his stance a bit.

So he's what he's sort of saying now.

It's well, that's what I think.

But it doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

Well, I just I think that's the thing I've just said.

He's he's getting on he's he's not as strong as at the stroke as well.

So maybe maybe he's just softening his approach because it is it is quite stressful doing it.

Or maybe he's softened his approach only from the public perspective

because he's very worried about death threats and things like that.

Yeah, and certain religion anyway. Oh, yeah.

to pay pensions for elderly people.

But wanting more young people is confusing, though, Steve, because if there are lots of elderly

people, how how does having young people, more young people help the elderly people?

Well, because it's the young people working

that pay the pensions for the elderly, the particular taxes, just a person.

Does it work until they're about 2021.

You've got to wait at least 21 years for that to come through.

Well, yeah, but then they've got 40 years of working and paying

taxes, paying for retired people's pensions.

So if you don't, this is what's going on in France at the moment.

This is part of the the problem with trying to raise the retirement age is what Macron

trying to do, because he can see in the future that is not the problem, by the way.

more people who are who are following your religion.

So so many, many religions do that.

They say, come on, more, more babies, five, ten, because it means 20.

It means that they could be a dominant religion because, you know, young people,

you're going to be, you know, dominant over over into the religion.

because all let's do it because the elderly people are still going to live longer anyway.

So if you're having more babies, it's just going to increase the population.

and lots of young people are coming along, it just

if you were on a boat and that was happening,

I think it's the other end of the scale that that might be the problem,

maybe there is a shortage of young people,

but also a lot of people are are living longer.

that is tipping over Asia in Asia, Japan,

shortage of young people, China.

There is a massive shortage of

of people under a certain age and they're doing the same thing.

They've actually got rid of some of the laws

that prohibit having more than one child.

So they're doing the same thing.

if you realized if if you're in your twenties and thirties now

if if you save a bit every month for 30 or 40 years, you'll have plenty

and you don't have to save much over that period of time.

to show that things, including, well, we have days.

I live this word, by the way, dazed, because it sort of

sounds like the feeling that you have when are dazed,

you are in a bewildered, semi-conscious state.

So if you are dazed, it means you are you're not quite

responding to the environment around you.

Maybe you are a little bit disorientated

or as they say in American English, disoriented.

Dazed? Yes. If someone hits you over the head, honk,

but you don't

fall unconscious, You will be dazed.

so you don't really know what's happening

Because if you lose touch with all that,
