The sun is out.

The birds are very happy because the weather is lovely.

It's not too bad.

And guess where Mr. Steve is at the moment?

He is outside in the garden and doing some work.

I'm sure he will tell us all about that a little bit later on.

And yes, we are coming to you live from the birthplace

of the English language, which just happens to be England.

I hope everything in your world is super duper.

My name is Duncan.

I talk about the English language.

You might say I am an English addict.

We have lots of things to talk about.

A big subject, a big topic,

and also one that might be interesting to some of you

if you are learning English or of course, if you are learning anything,

because in this world there are many interesting things around.

Maybe something that is not interesting

to one person might be interesting to another.

So because human beings are all different, maybe we have different likes,

different interests, different things that we enjoy.

And of course, maybe things we are interested

in learning more about.

So that is one of the things we are looking at today.

Learning, I think,

and this is my

own opinion, by the way, it doesn't have to be true.

It is just what I feel.

And who knows? It might be real.

It might be true.

It might be very, very important even.

But I think we never stop learning.

I don't think there is a period in our life where we stop learning

something new.

I think today you might learn something new

and perhaps I will learn something new as well.

So every day is a new XP areas

and of course new opportunities

to learn new things.

And I think it is true a day without learning

something new is a day wasted.

And I think that is a very good phrase to remember.

So whenever you go outside,

whenever you explore somewhere new,

I can guarantee I am pretty sure

you will learn something new.

I think so.

So as we all go through life, there are things that we don't know.

Things we are unsure of.

And of course, these days it is so easy to get

hold of information.

You can find out things very easily.

We have the Internet.

We have many places where you can find out about things.

I used to spend

a lot of time

at the library, so where I lived,

I was very lucky because just a few yards from my house there was a library

and it was filled with all sorts of books,

stories, novels, fiction, non-fiction.

And of course, lots of great information

was contained within that library.

So I used to spend a lot of time in the library,

and also I used to take some books out as well.

And that is the great thing about libraries.

You can borrow the books,

you can take them home with you, you can read them whenever you want.

So I still think there is a certain amount of value

in things like or places such as libraries, places

where you can go along to spend time

without having to stare at the internet.

And I am a very big believer

in books and also things that can give you information

in a different way besides the Internet.

But of course, I suppose it's worth mentioning Also,

if you go to the local library, you will also find these days

that many libraries will have computers in them as well.

So some of them will be connected to the Internet and some of them

will have their own database, which will allow you to find out

where certain types of information

is contained within that place.

So I am a very big believer in encyclopaedias.

Any sort of book, any sort of exercise

book, something to help you learn something new.

That is one of the reasons why I always say

one of the best things to have is a dictionary, an English dictionary.

If you are learning.

It is a great thing to have, and I would always recommend

that you buy maybe a large dictionary.

But of course these days, if you want to be able to walk around

and carry something in your bag,

you can also buy a concise

English dictionary as well.

And of course, you can buy one that easily translates

between your local language or your native language

and the other language you are learning,

which in this case will be English.

So there are many ways of learning, many ways of picking up information.

You pick up information.

I like that expression.

So if you pick up something,

it means you are gathering

or you are absorbing some sort of information.

And I think every day we

learn something new, even as an adult.

And I know it is a cliche,

something that lots of people say all the time.

But I do believe you are never too old to learn.

And I do know that I have lots of people

watching on here today who are learning.

They continue to learn and they want to learn more.

Always be hungry.

That's what I say.

Not just food, but also information.

Things you can learn.

It makes the world a little bit more interesting

when you learn more about it.

So today we are looking at learning, learning things, learning new things,

or maybe learning one

particular thing subjects.

There are many subjects around.

It is amazing.

What sort of things people become interested in.

We all have different interests, but I'm always fascinated

by some of the more a unusual interests that people have.

So we can think of lots of things, maybe things genuinely in the world,

maybe if you are interested in a particular type of thing or subject,

maybe you are a very big fan of of nature.

Maybe you love nature very much, maybe a certain type of animal.

Maybe you are crazy about a particular type of animal such as a dog.

Maybe you are a dog owner,

maybe you have a cat,

maybe you are interested in all sorts of animals.

Maybe you have a general interest

in nature like I do.

I'm very interested in nature.

And I was looking out of my window this morning and I noticed.

Well, first of all, I suppose I should explain yesterday, because we did

have a nice event take place yesterday,

a lovely natural event yesterday.

We had some snow. And guess what?

I couldn't resist filming it for you.

there it was, The View.

Yesterday morning I woke up to snow fall

and I was very excited,

as you can probably imagine, because I like snow.

I like being outside in the snow when it is snowing.

But I also like to be in the house

looking out of the window when it's snowing as well.

I have to say, sometimes it is a nice place to be when you are in the house.

It is nice and warm and you can look out and watch

the weather

taking place and doing its thing.

And nature is one of the things I am fascinated by.

Animals, plant life, weather events, anything really.

I woke up this morning and I noticed in the distance

there was a lot of snow that had fallen on the mountains in the distance.

So near where I live, there are also mountains.

I know, Beatrice, You like going to the mountains, but guess what?

I have mountains near my house.

And this morning I noticed that some of them

were covered with snow.

so that is what I woke up to this morning.

The weather is rather nice. Lots of sun.

And in the distance we have snow as well.

English addict is with you today

and I shall give you your five minute warning

to be prepared because in around

about 5 minutes from now, this guy will be on your screens.

What has Mr.

Steve been doing this week?

So there he is, warming up, getting himself in the mood

to join us all on the live stream in a few moments.

I suppose it is unusual to have snow at this time of year,

but to be honest with you, we can have snow much later than this.

So it isn't unusual to have snow in early April.

So it is possible to have snow quite late.

I think in the past we've had snowfall

around Easter as well.

I know a lot of you will wait patiently for Mr.

Steve to arrive.

We are looking at learning today, learning things.

My own experience of learning, Mr.

Steve and his experience of learning.

And also another question I will be asking today, quite a serious one.

We like to look at all sorts of things.

Another thing I would like to ask today is

why can't we all just get along

to get along?

Means to be friends.

To be acquaintances.

You get along.

And to get along means to be in a situation

where you both feel comfortable.

Why can't we all just get along?

And when I say that, I mean human beings.

Me, you, everyone.

The whole world.

Apparently.

Very.

Quite a few people on this planet, around a billion people

right now

are all walking around, breathing, eating.

However, quite a few of us

don't get along.

And I think it is an interesting question

because, well, why?

Why can't people just get along?

Why can't we all just agree that we are on the same ride?

We are on the same trip,

we are all experiencing

the same exist stance in different ways.

And talking of learning, I suppose we can all learn from each other as well.

There are things we can learn from each other.

So I think it is a great question and it might be one

we will be talking about a little bit later on when Mr.

Steve joins us on the live chat.

Another thing I was quite excited

yesterday for a certain reason.

Can you guess why I was excited yesterday?

There is one particular reason

and it has something to do with food.

I know what you are going to say.

You are going to say, Mr.

Duncan, you always talk about food.

We think

you might be addicted to food.

I have been outside in the gorgeous spring sunshine

because I think it is officially spring

after the 1st of March.

And it's gorgeous out there.

We had a frost this morning.

It's about minus one around here last night.

But that frost has gone and I've been wading through mud

and cutting back plants

before the weeds cover them, trying to do some some good work out there.

I've had some really good exercise. Mr. Duncan.

I feel fighting fit, ready to tackle whatever

the live chat will throw at me today.

Well, you know what it's like, Steve.

Sometimes the the live chat can get quite, quite busy,

and there is always something to talk about.

Today, by the way, we have a very interesting subject.

We are talking about learning how to learn.

And I know it seems like an obvious subject,

but actually we very rarely talk about it.

You and I, and here on the live chat,

we rarely talk about how we learn

and and the things we enjoy learning

and when we learn.

Now, as I said earlier, Steve wasn't here,

but as I said earlier, we learn all the time.

I think we never stop learning.

I think learning is something we constantly do,

even if we don't think we're doing it, we are learning.

Things may be something you you overhear in a conversation.

You might find out something new, maybe some information you

you weren't aware of before, or maybe a little bit of local gossip.

Even so, learning is not just about knowledge.

Remembering things. It might.

It might also just be something that you didn't know before

about a certain person or maybe something like that.

Today, we might reveal something about ourselves

when we answer these questions about what we learn and how we like to learn.

Can I just say you look so, so radiant.

It's because I've been outside.

I love to be outside in the garden and Charlotte.

I've just been in the garden.

We didn't have any snow, although we did have sleet yesterday.

But yeah, I'm feeling fighting fit.

The great thing about Laurel is you can cut it right back and it grows back again.

Even during the winter, So you wouldn't think that

things would grow during the winter.

But they are sort of some things carry on growing,

especially evergreen trees, trees that are always green.

So they are always doing something.

Even during those cold winter

It was merely a disagreement on the

And the big question today is

a big question that lots of people ask for those wondering.

Apparently, according to Steve.

A big question today, Steve, is

why can't we all just get along?

Do you ever ask that question?

Yes, I think we we often do that, don't we?

Particularly when there's conflicts around the world,

we say, why just why can't we all just get along?

Why can't we all just get along and be friendly?

There's a great film that was released many years ago,

I think it was in the 1990s called Mars Attacks.

Do you remember that film? I do, yes.

I think a lot of people have forgotten it, but it's Tony Jones in that

it's sorry.

Did Tom Jones make make a cameo appearance in that?

He did didn't he was only singing a song. Yes.

Tom Jones was in Mars attacks.

Okay, good.

I'm glad we've established that Jack Nicholson was also in it.

And I think if I remember rightly, he he played

the president of the world or the US that he did didn't do.

And there were always all these aliens came from Mars.

And I think it's a great story

because there is a wonderful scene towards the end of the film

where Jack Nicholson is his character

just wants everyone to live in peace,

and he asks the aliens

who who seem to have

a habit of Vaporising people,

and he asks, Why can't we all just get along?

And guess what the alien does?

It kills him.

Vaporises him.

Yeah, because.

Because you have

sometimes enemies like those aliens.

And maybe in other conflicts that we have around the world.

Sometimes your enemy is like a crocodile.

You try to be nice to a crocodile,

and it would just sit there and look at you and take no notice whatsoever.

And eventually, given the chance, it'll just bite your head off

because some people are just bad and they have no feeling.

Also for other human beings or anybody else,

and you can be as nice to them as you want and as tolerant of them as you want,

and they'll just laugh behind your back and given the chance,

I'll bite your head off.

So and that's the problem we've got.

I like that film in particular, that film in particular, Mars attacks.

If you ever get the chance to see it, watch it.

I think most people have almost forgotten about it.

But it is a very good study

of relationships between people

who don't understand each other

and that that can happen in any situation.

You see any situation with human beings between humans,

but also in in nature generally,

there might be misunderstandings between animals when when you watch

feeding in the garden, you might think, why can't they all just stop fighting?

Because there's lots of food there in the garden.

But the birds will still fight each other,

even though there's lots and lots of food around in the garden.

You can't reason with animals, unfortunately.

And I think sometimes you can't reason with other people.

Yeah, but some some other human beings are like

animals and behave like animals. And.

And that's why you can't reason with them.

And my they unfortunately

sometimes have to be eliminated.

Sorry.

Because you can't reason with them. Yes.

Well, I'm not talking about eliminating anyone.

I'm just talking about the reason why that that happens.

So apparently in the movie they're saying that.

Yes. Yes, that's right. Yes.

The alien does kill the president.

He does Nick Trump. It does happen.

Maybe slightly misremembered the film, but it doesn't end well.

That's what I'm saying.

But I think it's a good way of looking at misunderstandings between people

and I think it happens between human beings.

Generally speaking, I don't think people

are as sociable

as they like to pretend they are.

I think we all enjoy our own space.

I know I do.

I love my own space.

I like being in a situation where I have my environment around me

and sometimes I get very annoyed when when that environment is invaded in some way.

You do. That's very true.

Dogs barking, for example.

Maybe if you want to sit outside in the garden and there is some noise

coming from somewhere else and it can be annoying.

It's not the worst thing in the world.

I do understand that there are worse things happening on the planet,

but it can be annoying.

Why can't we all just get along?

Because people are selfish.

That's another reason people are selfish.

They lack

respect for other people that live around them

and near them.

And I think that causes a lot of problems with

not just neighbours but also with other countries

and other people because people lack respect.

But then of course, if the if they if the people that

in other countries don't see your point of view

or don't don't share your values,

then you've got a real problem.

so jeez.

So do you think that's one of the reasons maybe.

Maybe people each person has their own individual view of the world. So.

So maybe sometimes conflict

can come from from one person's view of the world

being different from someone else's.

So maybe that is one of the main reasons why you can have conflict.

One of the places that I often think of when I think of conflict

between people is the workplace.

I think that has to be

one of the worst places for human behaviour.

What do you think, Steve?

Yes, it can be.

I mean, you've experienced

the worst forms of human behaviour because at work now

there are lots of rules and regulations, which means it does

tend to kerb people's bad behaviour

because you can just go along to the human resources department.

Yes. H.R.

and complain, particularly for sort of sexist remarks

or misogynist remarks or

inappropriate sexual advances, things like that.

Workplaces are quite good at protecting their employees.

They have to by law, that's it.

But then when you, for example, you've often told me

stories of when you used to work in a shop,

you used to be treated appallingly by a lot of members of the public.

You came in. Yes.

And also other members of staff, people I worked with.

right.

So is one particular woman a lady who was really she was always so mean to me.

And I don't know why I didn't do anything to her.

I never did anything to harm her or hurt her.

But she was always so nasty to me.

In fact, I was transferred to another place

because she had moved to another place

and I went to work in the same place and I couldn't stand it

because she was even worse there towards me.

She kept picking on me and bullying me

and I don't know why So I actually went back to where I was.

I went to the back to the original place I was working because I couldn't

stand working with this particular person because she made my life so difficult.

And even to this very day.

Now, as I stand here talking to you,

I still don't know why she was so horrible to me.

No idea.

I never found out.

Yes. What I've always found.

And that was your manager, was it Mr. Duncan?

She was actually a supervisor. Supervisor?

Then she went to work somewhere else.

So from the place I was, I was actually at, she went somewhere else.

And then I went to that place as well to work.

And once again I was working with her.

But this time she was a supervisor and she was above me

and she used to treat me really badly.

And even now, sometimes at night

I wake up and I think to myself, Why was she so horrible to me?

I still don't know.

And yes, that is one of the things.

So I think sometimes conflict between people, sometimes you can't even it.

It just happens.

It's organic, it just happens.

It's working on a level we don't understand.

And sometimes, I mean, I find that sometimes I just

I meet somebody and I just don't like them

and I don't know why, but sometimes

it's almost like a gut instinct.

I think we make when we meet people.

We make very, very quick

judgements of them based on our own experience of the world.

I think we make very, very within a few seconds

we pretty much judge people and buy them

and put them into some kind of pigeonhole within our brain.

Yeah.

they're that type of person or they're that type of person.

I think we automatically do it.

Our brains are gathering lots of information about

people's expressions, the tone of their voice,

their mannerisms, or even their appearance and their appearance.

And we very quickly make an assessment of that person as to whether we like them

or not based other people that we've met in the past that are like them.

I think we always do it automatically.

We're often wrong, of course, but often right.

Yeah.

So so I think that this is

a type of defence mechanism.

I think we are all protective of ourselves to a certain degree.

Some people are very protective

and maybe they don't want other people to know about their

their private life or the things they do and others are quite open.

So, so it is strange when you meet another person

and sometimes you like them straight away and other times you might be a little

maybe suspicious of them or maybe you don't like them at all,

even if there is no reason.

You just you just don't get along.

If you you're referring to your supervisor.

I know in my line of work, probably in most people's

work environment, if you've got a manager you don't like or a manager

that doesn't like you, then you're going to have a pretty miserable time at work.

And that is in my line of work,

particularly if you've got a manager, a direct line manager

that you don't get on with and doesn't like you,

then it's pretty much over you.

Unless they do something that warrants a complaint, then

then in my experience, you're better off just leaving because

it's all it's just going to be miserable otherwise.

Yeah. Like your situation. Yeah, I would.

Can I just.

Can I just say I always feel bad

when I'm defeated by those situations.

So I will try to to stay in that situation,

even though it's making me feel uncomfortable or awkward.

But after a while you have to give up.

And that's what happened in that situation.

So this woman was so this she was so cruel to me, horrible

that I had to go back to the other place I was working at.

I just and I told people why I didn't

keep it a secret, but I actually did complain about this person.

I said this person was was literally bullying

me and harassing me and making my life really difficult.

And that's the reason why I went back to the other place.

And and it did caused quite a stir at the time.

But I never found out why.

She was like towards me.

I it but it happens.

I know that there are people watching now

who might not like me.

They might just be watching because maybe there's something interesting happening.

But surely not Mr. Duncan, who couldn't like you.

You might not like me.

You might go, no, not him, not that guy.

He's been on YouTube for so many years.

So many years. Many, many years.

Not him again, is he still is he still around?

He certainly can't.

So I think it's a it's a pretty big subject.

I know it's a big subject, but I do worry sometimes why people don't get along.

And it can be misunderstanding.

It can also be different points of view, I suppose when we talk about things

like politics as well, political points of view,

your way of looking at the world around you.

So from your own,

your own perspective, which I think is a great word,

perspective is just the view that you have,

the way you see the world around you through your eyes

and also the way you process everything you see around you appear in your brain.

It's a lot of things going on at the same time.

So maybe that's another reason why people don't get along.

That's right. Yes. A lot of times

you take your

opinions and values from your parents, don't you, Quite often. yes.

And so pretty much if your

I mean, your parents have a huge influence on you.

Good one. Much,

you know, whatever your parents are telling you

before the age of seven, your is hardwiring itself

into your brain.

So yeah.

So if they're in there, they're pretty much going to stay there. Yes.

Unless you are the sort of person who's prepared to read

and take a broad perspective on the world

and what is happening in the world

and which is something often

we see that religious people often don't do.

Well, that's interesting things before you go on stage.

Very narrow perspective.

Steve, wait, though, before you go on.

When we talk about things you've learnt as a as a child,

I think that's very important.

I think that is so.

So maybe the things that your parents instruct to you as a child

can have quite a long lasting effect on your life.

And you did briefly mentioned religion, but it can be anything really as well.

Maybe the politics of your family.

Yes, maybe, maybe that can have an effect on you.

However, the effect

can either be negative or positive.

So something that your parents do

won't

necessarily mean that you will follow it.

You might actually go the opposite way.

A very good example, I suppose, is both of my parents used to smoke all the time.

My father would smoke, my mother used to smoke all the time when I was younger.

She would always have a cigarette in her hand.

Now you would imagine that that would

encourage me to smoke because that is the thinking.

Most people think if your parents smoke, there is a good chance

that your child will eventually take up smoking.

In fact, it has the opposite effect.

It put me off smoking,

so I did not smoke and I didn't start smoking at all.

I've never smoked in my life because of my parents.

So it doesn't necessarily mean the things

that your parents do or tell you or the things you will follow.

You might actually still go the opposite way, which I find even more fascinating.

Yes, that that yes,

that might be a bit different because that's something

that obviously, you know, you find out later on in life is bad for you.

Well, habits are learnt, habits and learn, but

things like opinions and and and

sort of political bias and things like that, you're

definitely going to pick those up from your parents.

But yeah, I mean they do say

that if your parents smoke, you are more likely to smoke.

Definitely.

But I think yeah, pretty much.

I mean parents have a huge responsibility,

to, to teach their children the right way to live.

But I mean,

I'm, I'm hearing cases now of teachers.

We know people who are teachers and the children now are going to school

and they don't even know how to use a knife and fork

or they don't know how to write or clean their teeth or clean their teeth.

Yes, I know.

They want to now have people go into the schools here in the UK

to to teach children

how to clean their teeth because because a lot of kids

now are going to school and they're not even cleaning their teeth.

So we have to then teach them once more all of these basic

things that you would expect the parents to actually teach.

So I think teaching comes from it comes from all over the place.

So learning and being taught

or being a teacher, of course, they all have their own,

their own successes and their own failures

and also their own strong points and also weaknesses as well.

So I think I think it is difficult these days being a teacher,

but parents are very influential.

I think.

So one of the things I always remember about my parents is

they were quite open minded with other things.

So even though they like smoking all the time, they were quite open

minded with other things.

They never pushed me in any particular direction with with thought

or how to think maybe religion that you mentioned a few moments ago.

I was never really pushed in any direction with religion.

Even though my parents would sometimes go to church, I would go to church

and I was aware of religion

and Christianity, for example, but it never caught on.

I never felt anything from it

because my parents never really pushed me towards it.

So I was able to to look at all aspects

of that particular subject, not just one.

And then you come to your own conclusion.

So that's what happened to me.

I know in your family, Steve, your mother, your mother was quite, quite religious.

She was a very committed Christian woman.

All her.

But my father wasn't.

So Mum used to go to church on Sunday.

Dad didn't go.

He wasn't a believer.

But so I got both perspectives in my family.

I got my father's.

I mean, my father never used to denounce religion.

I don't really know what my father's view was.

I think he was an atheist, but I don't know.

He never really voiced it.

It's probably an agnostic, but I mean, certainly

my father thought my mother right to the end

was a true believer.

but then that's how she was brought up.

You know, have mother instilled that very strongly

into her and took them to church.

And so, you know, if your parents are very religious,

then chances are if you take it to church from an early age

and that's drummed into you, chances are that's how you're going to be as well,

because it'll be hardwired into your brain.

Yeah.

but I did sort of

go to Sunday school like you and I went to church a bit, but it was,

I don't know when I stopped going, actually, I don't know.

You know, I think I got both influences

with my parents.

Yes, it's quite interesting. So.

So these things are all there in your past

and they do have the ability to form

you as an individual

and maybe those, those differences of opinion

or feeling or perception

is actually what causes the conflict.

So I find that I find it quite an interesting subject.

We're going to talk a little bit more about learning in a few moments.

something arrived yesterday, didn't it?

Steve We went out for a meal in town

and we were very pleased to find out that

they all back.

The hot cross buns have returned.

Everyone.

I'm very pleased to say that my favourite snack,

other than cheese scones,

have returned the hot cross burn.

Of course, as we approach Easter, a lot of people will be

will be making and also buying

and preparing hot cross buns.

They are absolutely delicious.

And yesterday in our local cafe we were able to sample them

and I can safely say they were as nice as they always are.

And Mr.

Steve, I think you are at some point, maybe next week

you're going to try and make a large hot cross bun.

That's right.

I'm going to I did make it last year.

The mixture.

You can just you don't

I mean, the bun itself is is a religious sort of symbol isn't it.

For Easter with a cross on it.

But the actual recipe itself

is it can be adapted into other forms.

It's just bread.

So I'm going to make a hot I'm going to make one not a hot cross,

but I'm going to make the same mixture, which is it's basically a bread mix

with, with some mixed spice in it and some fruit and a little bit of sugar.

And it so it rises in the same way as bread does.

So it's not a cake as such.

So it's a mixed spice in the sauce.

Mixed by spicy would put in a cake.

I'm not talking about the sort of spice you would put in a curry.

I'm talking about other spice.

It would put in a in like a, a cake, cinnamon, cinnamon

and a bit of nutmeg and, but a ginger maybe.

I think a bit of ginger goes in there as well.

And, and that will go in there with some fruit,

some dried fruits and currants and raisins, not too many.

And you just cook it like bread, but it's sort of more like a sweet.

Yeah. Flavour.

And I

won't put a big cross on that on the top.

There's no need to do that, but it's the same mixture.

But we can cut it and slice it like normal bread.

So make it into a large loaf.

You will bake a loaf.

I was going to do it this morning, Mr.

Duncan, but we needed some normal bread, so I ran out of time.

That's all right.

Don't worry about that. And Mr.

Steve, it doesn't really, to be honest, when you think about all the other things

happening in the world.

And I think it matters that much.

what a very pertinent point that

religion is a separate thing

or should be a separate thing to belief in a creator.

And that really I think what Lewis is saying is that I

don't want to put words into Lewis's math, but I think he's saying that, you know,

there could be a creator, but religion is manmade

and that they are two separate things, I think, which is

which is the perspective of my father, because my father was in the Navy.

Okay.

So he travelled all over the world.

So he was what you would call a man of the world.

So he saw many different cultures all over the world.

So I think that helped him to gain the perspective

of, you know, what life's really about.

Because if you only stay in your own country or your own village

with some people never leave the village they're born in,

then you can't possibly get a picture of

or get

an opinion of what other people believe.

And I think once you do, you begin to realise that everybody believes

so many different things,

like my father did.

You know, you went to visit it all cultures

saw all cultures, all religions, all everything.

And I think you something

my father instilled in me was that,

there isn't one right way.

The can't be.

Because if everyone believes different things, then you would be

extremely arrogant if you were to believe that yours was right.

Yeah. Anyway, but we won't go into that.

But I think that's what your, your, your father's experience is would

it would have been something that would shape his view of the world.

Yes. It but that is what learning is.

Learning is things going into here and sometimes you keep them and use them

and sometimes you forget about them pretty quickly and that is it.

That is what learning is all about.

Learning is about shaping your own existence.

And that quite often

means that you will take things

from from from around you and use them in some way.

They form a basis of your own personality.

Hey, I suppose that's the most basic way of looking at it.

Another thing I've realised is your father was in the forces and so was my dad.

So my dad was in the army.

So isn't that interesting?

I think that's quite interesting.

We were talking about the other day how, how we have a lot of things in common.

You, I and that's another one we have in common is that your father

was in the Navy and my father was was serving in the Army as well.

So that that's very strange.

In fact, my dad this is interesting.

I've never mentioned this before.

My dad wanted me

to join the army.

Now, think about that for a moment.

Me in the Army.

I know, because when I met you, you.

What did you race?

Eight stone?

I was very skinny, very thin.

I, I think actually, if I tried to join the army

when I was younger, I don't think I would have passed the medical exam.

I think they would have just told me to go away, do something else,

try to try to find something else to do with your life.

You are not an army type of man,

to be honest.

I find that quite interesting.

But that is this, isn't it?

There were many ways of learning things

around you and this leads me to my question.

Steve, today is an interesting question, right?

Not that one.

That's the later that one.

How do you learn?

How do you learn?

And I've never looked at this before, so you would imagine, Steve,

that I would have done this before in the past, but I've never actually

directly approached this subject.

So how do you learn it? Generally speaking?

Now, I know in the past growing up I would often read

encyclopaedias, books, things like that.

So that's where I got a lot of my knowledge and ability from

and I suppose some of it, some of it I got from school.

But as we will be talking about later,

that is not always the case.

So how do you learn?

Mr. Steve

There are many things I imagine are a person who is always interested

in things.

You like to gather information and find out new things.

So how do you normally learn something new?

If you approach something

you've never done before, how would you normally do it?

Well, you see, in the old days, and I say the old days, pre-internet,

I, I'd go to a library and look at a book on a subject

if I wanted to learn about it.

But now we can just hop on to the internet currently and,

I must admit, YouTube is a very

well, it's a good source of

information, but you have to be very aware that it might not always be accurate.

But if you want to do things, for example,

I wanted to drain a radio.

I wanted to do something.

What was what is a drain to write now that said no?

When I was doing my repairing the wall outside

the house and I wanted to learn

how to mix the correct

way, to mix mortar and concrete, I just went on to YouTube

and there were all these videos there

telling me how to do it, and if I want to do anything

now, that's my first place I go now to find information.

Wikipedia, which I know these sources aren't always 100% accurate,

but as long as you cross-reference it with other sources,

you can pretty much soon find out what's true and what isn't.

Yeah, I think that's interesting, actually,

because things that are practical. So.

So what you're talking about there.

All right, I'll things that are practical, a practical thing that you have to do

quite often with your hands, maybe you want to build something

or maybe you want to repair something.

So you have to find out how to do it.

So from that point of view, it is more practical how to do something

and you are right, Steve YouTube is a pretty great place.

If you want to come in, learn something, maybe English, maybe you are

to my English right now and you are learning

how to listen and understand so you can learn very easily on YouTube.

And there are so many resources, so many ways of learning.

So I think that's that's a that's a that's a good one.

One of the things I always regret,

I wish I had been born a little bit later.

So instead of 1965,

I would have loved to have been born

maybe in the late 1970s.

And then then I could have enjoyed slightly more

the technology that came along later, because I always felt in my life,

I always felt as I was waiting

for these things to be developed.

Does that sound weird?

Does that sound strange?

I always had in my mind things I wanted to do.

I wanted to create things I was always interested in photography.

I always thought that filming would be great because my uncle

had had a Sydney camera and he would always film things.

So that got me very interested in that.

The only problem was none of that technology existed,

so I always felt as if, as if

I wish I'd been born a little bit later, maybe ten or 15 years later.

And then in my younger years, I could have used those things

to, to, to help myself to to be more creative.

But instead what I had to do was wait

until I was in my late thirties

and or early forties before I could begin to learn

how to do it, because before then there was no technology.

I had to wait for that technology to be developed.

Point of view.

You could have done something else in the meantime,

but yes.

Yeah, you could have done something else in the.

You can't wish Mr.

Duncan that you would have been born in different time.

Well, it's it's the feeling is just that waiting.

I was always aware that there were things I wanted to do,

but there was no there was no physical way of doing it.

So music always interested me filming

and photography always interested me.

But but back then

the equipment was was rare and also incredibly expensive.

But of course nowadays you can, you can have a phone or maybe a camera.

Many things now are not that expensive and it's much easier.

And of course we have this wonderful thing called the Internet, which didn't exist

before the mid-nineties.

And so I had to wait and be patient.

And now

made up for it now. Mr.

Duncan I think so.

I think you've made up for it now.

But you do like your technology, though?

I do.

I love technology very much, whereas I'm not a fan.

So really, you know, I could have been

I could have been brought up in the 1950s really out of being quite happy.

You would have, although you can't wish, you know, you were born in another time.

You have to make the most of

the most of the time, if only because that's all you've got.

Rosie says, I've noticed you now sit in a comfortable chair.

Yes, I've been in this comfortable chair for a few weeks now

because, well, you know, because I'm always active outside doing things.

So I don't really want to be standing up for an hour and a half. No.

During the live stream, Mr.

Duncan, it stands up all the time.

Now. He's got his death. New desk.

I always stand.

He's standing all the time, which is very healthy.

He used to sit all the time and now he stands all the time during the day.

I have to explain. I don't like sitting.

I'm not a big fan of sitting down, but but normally, if I'm working

in front of the desk, I'm normally editing and that takes a very long time.

But recently, well, about about well, almost a year ago

I bought a new desk that I can I can raise and lower.

So most of the time now, even if I'm editing

or working here at the desk, I will stand.

So I spend most of my time actually standing.

Here's an interesting question, Steve.

What was the most recent thing you learned?

right.

I well, the thing is, I'm always I'm reading

I read the news a lot, so I'm always learning something.

You mean, do you mean something specific?

Anything.

something I've learned.

Just.

Just maybe a piece of information or maybe a thing you didn't know, and now you do.

For example, this morning, you were interested in finding out what would work.

yes, that's. It's. There we go.

So now it was this morning.

Even this morning you were learning something new

because we were curious to find out what woodworm actually is. Yes.

I remember growing up, everyone had woodworm

in their furniture, little things growing.

And they would they would eat literally eat the wood.

Well, my grandparents are the same.

They're furniture all had holes in it. Yes.

And you were always

worried about my parents, Always worried about taking a bit of furniture in

that would have woodworm because it would spread

maybe to the floorboards and other places of the house.

And I was curious because woodworm was mentioned

in an old programme that we saw was made in the 1960s, a comedy programme,

and they were talking about woodworm in there

and this comedy programme that suddenly I suddenly struck me

that you don't really hear of woodworm anymore.

Nobody mentions it.

We don't get woodworm in furniture anymore.

And I was curious to know why we don't any where I've discovered it was because

central heating basically.

Well the thing is we didn't I didn't even know what woodworm was.

So it turns out it's a type of beetle.

It's the larvae of a beetle

and the larvae which,

which you would get in in wood that was, you know, trees.

Naturally.

That's part of the process of a of, of the

the wood being recycled some would be.

But of course houses used to be very damp, they didn't have central heating.

But since we've all a lot of places now have central heating,

then the air is very dry, the wood, the furniture is dry,

and that the Beatles can't survive in that.

It's very strange, isn't the larvae? I shouldn't say beetles.

They're larvae. Yes.

So the larvae is is the small grub.

Quite often people refer to it as a grub.

It is.

It is what happens before the animal emerges and becomes the actual adult.

I was just interested.

I was curious to know why we don't have woodworm any more.

Yes, it's I've never heard of any one that has it.

It does seem like something from from the past that you never hear any more.

But I'm sure it still exists.

And certain countries. Maybe.

Maybe. Yes.

If you live in a damp, if you live near the tropics or

tropical areas or like Malaysia for example,

just be a random country off the top of my head.

It's damp, it's warm.

I would imagine if your house is

it's not air conditioned or something, then you might get woodworm.

But but yeah, my grandparents, I mean, I always remember my parents

talking about woodwork

and they've got woodworm and I used to look at their furniture

and what holes in it, just literally the holes

where the little grubs had actually eaten the wood.

I'm trying to think of what the most recent thing I learned

because I'm always learning things every day, especially when we are talking

about technology, because this this thing you are looking at now,

it might look very simple, but it's incredibly technical.

There is a whole study here full of all sorts of equipment

and all of it I have to maintain by myself.

And as you know, technology is always updated.

There is always something new coming along.

So I have to learn things almost

every day, almost every hour.

Yeah.

And you actually the problem I find today is that

there's too much information coming at you.

Ooh, you can learn.

I get to the point where I'm.

You can literally never take yourself away from the internet

or the mobile phone there is or if you are the sort of person

who likes to learn about the world and about things yet actually becomes

I find it becomes stressful

after a while because I go from one news story to the next,

and then that will trigger something for me

to go and somewhere else to go and look at something else.

And you just got this this.

I mean, you've you've mentioned this before,

and I think it can become a problem, but you can't sort of switch off.

You almost become

addicted to watching things and learning about things on the Internet.

So and I'm trying to recognise

now when I know I've overdone it,

I start to feel a bit of stress coming on. Yes.

Why am I obviously my brain is getting too much information coming at it.

I don't think you're alone with that feeling.

I think a lot of people do complain that there is too much to absorb,

and I feel like that sometimes because I have to do all of this by myself.

So everything you see, I'm the only person that works and does all of this.

It's all created by me.

So everything you see, if it's if it's if it appears in my video, anything nearby.

And if I appear on a video or life,

everything involved has been created by me.

I have to do all the work and that includes the technical side.

And sometimes I find it hard to keep up

with all of the developments especially over the past

few months, because now we have artificial intelligence coming in

to all of the the different types of technology.

If you blink now,

if you blink for 3 seconds or whatever now, then

the world will pass you by. Yes.

And I mean you're very good at this. Mr.

Duncan, keeping

keeping up to date

with new technology about what's going on

in the world of technology, mobile phones, things like that.

And I think if it wasn't for work for me,

then I don't think I'd have had a mobile phone.

No, Well, at least not a modern one.

I probably wouldn't have bothered with the Internet or the I would have been.

I'm always very slow to adopt new technology.

You're very quick to adopt because you like it.

It's something you're interested in. Yeah.

And somebody else mentioned earlier, I think it was Catarina.

I can't remember now about in the car.

Yes, it was Catarina about

too much technology in the car can be very distracting and confusing.

And I agree with you there.

Well, one of the frustrations you have now is when you get into the car,

there are so many things you have to do before you can even drive away.

You just get into the car, turn the key into gear.

Off you go.

But now you have to you have to turn you have to press a button

for for the for the dashboard to come on.

And then you have to you have to adjust settings

that you might like and then you have to plug your phone in

and then wait for that to connect and then set your satnav.

And that takes a while and then it might go wrong.

And then if you're trying to do it, when you're moving along, it's distracting.

It drives you crazy, it drives you crazy.

Yeah, everything's become

more complicated because we were promised that technology

would make our lives simpler, but it's had the exact opposite effect.

So I agree.

But, you know, that's that's my mode for the day.

If you are lucky enough to be interested in technology

and things like this, because I love it, I love anything that's electric,

something that blinks or something that carries out a certain task.

Camera's machine, things, computers.

I even managed eventually to build my own computer,

and I never thought I would ever be able to do that.

So I had to learn how to do that, and I built my own computer.

In fact, it is the computer

that is sending this stream to you now.

And so I felt very pleased about that, to be honest.

So it is possible to learn.

And the other thing I wanted to mention, Steve

age our

age, yes, age is quite often used

as a barrier

when.

We are talking about learning now, I believe, because we are not young Mr.

Steve and myself.

We are not young.

Speak for yourself yet

we are still able to learn new things.

It might become a little bit a little more stressful sometimes doing it

as you get older, but you're never too old.

You are never too old to learn new things.

And we have somebody, of course,

from France who who is, let's say,

a mature age called Lewis,

who is he is always learning something new and he's very keen to learn.

And that's what I want to be as I get older.

I always want to be willing

to keep up to date with what's going on in the world. Yes.

And not not, not just stop

and then just sort of live in the past

and then keep moaning about what's going on.

Because, I mean, air is here

to stay.

So I've got to at least know what that is about.

And and how it might be able to say, help me.

It's certainly helping you already.

And in the production of your videos.

Yes, it speeds up.

It doesn't replace it doesn't replace me.

I still have to be involved.

But the way in which I can do things now has has sped up.

So it's not it's not taking my place

because I still have to be there doing the work.

But the processes are much and simpler and faster.

Yes. And much faster, Much faster.

And this is the thing.

And if companies don't keep up to date with, they will

they will become less efficient because this is all about efficiency.

The reason business will want to take on AI

is to increase their productivity

in their efficiency in order for them to become more competitive. Yes.

And any business that doesn't do this

well will cease to exist because their profits will be less.

And in certain fields, not not in all fields, obviously, but

but in most fields of business,

then companies will have to take this on board.

Otherwise they'll they'll just they'll just fail to compete.

People will always need to learn things.

Machines.

Now, I think this is interesting because I don't think machines will

ever take over, but what I think is processes

and things that people have to do will become easier.

So you will always need a human being somewhere involved

in that particular thing.

It doesn't necessarily mean the human being will be taken away, removed.

What it means is you have a person

and that person will be able to do things quicker, easier

or of course there will be more options to do things as well.

So I'm not afraid of machines, to be honest.

I have such a fear because I think there is always a use.

And of course AI has been around for many,

many years, not just last year,

maybe the last 50 or 60 years. Yes.

So in a less advanced form, Yes.

In various forms, allowing people to do things or

process things or appear

to have some sort of intelligence.

But in fact, it's all human beings that are doing that.

They are telling the machine to do that or how to do it.

I remember back in the 1970s when when a computer was playing

chess, I mean, you could have call that artificial intelligence.

Exactly. At the time. And that's since the seventies.

That's obviously just become more sophisticated, as everything does.

are embracing technology and but we have to do it.

Yes, I think it is really about not having a choice.

And then you adapt human beings are very good

at adapting, just like everything in nature.

And we of course are part of nature.

So people, people can always adapt.

It might not happen straight away and it might happen over generations.

So maybe you you won't be the person who will

take the step forward, but maybe you will think about

taking the step forward and then other people who come afterwards

will be the ones that actually make the change.

So I think he makes a good point.

It's always possible.

I mean, new tech has its benefits.

Yes, we moan about it, but in a car and some of this new tech might, well,

save your life.

And that's very true.

I mean, with my car, my car's about six years old now.

Five, six years old.

But it's got this anti braking technology in it.

I don't have to set it.

It's there.

But, you know, on

a few occasions and in fact, it happened the other day, Mr.

Duncan,

suddenly I was distracted by something

and the car in front must have braked

or I thought it was going to turn and it didn't.

And all of a sudden I felt my seatbelt tighten up and the car beeping at me.

And and it's and it was it was breaking.

It was it

thought I was going

to crash into the car in front because the car in front did something.

And I might have been perhaps too close.

But I mean, you imagine that in a much higher speed

that was just in the town and.

Blimey. Yes.

So yet technology can very much save your life, particularly in cars.

The technology has got very, very good in fact there now.

In fact people

are now having fun.

Some naughty people on the road are having fun with people

that drive modern cars, particularly Teslas.

They are deliberately doing things to make them brake.

you you can do that.

You can drive in a certain way. Apparently.

Now that will sort of almost make

make modern cars like Tesla's, for example.

You have lots and lots of technology.

If you sort of drive at them, they they will react. Yes.

And apparently the so also people are actually sort of

doing it on purpose to make to make the car do these things.

Well, of course, we have driverless cars now.

I realise in certain areas,

I think in the USA, in certain areas they have driverless cars.

Now I think this is a type of trial that is taking place

and I know in China as well, they are really speeding ahead

with driverless technology with with cars.

It's incredible.

So all of that is still moving forward quite quickly.

I did you see what happened in America?

Some I think it was.

Was it

San Francisco or some of the I can't remember where it was, but

they tried to introduce driverless cars and the local people attacked this

and burnt it still. Yes.

Did they was this something to do with them?

Worried about the cars taking over the world?

I don't know what it was, but there was this taxi

company introduced driverless cars.

Yeah, in the city.

I don't know which city it was.

And some of the locals, because they were so afraid of this

or didn't want it, they they attacked it and set it on fire.

If it sounds like almost something out of a film.

Yes, they probably thought it was sent by the devil or something.

It is the devil's car.

It did seem a little extreme, although, of course they.

Yeah, haven't perfected this technology yet.

Interesting.

But yeah, they they literally attacked this car and

and it's it like it was like it was from another planet

there is it, there is a genuine fear and we laugh about this,

but there is a genuine fear of technology and there are people who are afraid.

So I remember in this country during the COVID outbreak,

there were all sorts of crazy ideas going around

about certain types of technology that might be involved,

and they were attacking certain things around them.

They were setting fire to, these telephone masts

that were that were sending out 5G signals

because they believed that that had something to do with it.

They thought of something to do with. Yes.

Okay.

They didn't they there are people who who are really afraid of technology.

They fear technology greatly.

So these are not Luddites.

These are not people refusing to accept modern things.

They just have a complete fear of it

and don't want it, you know?

Yes. Yeah.

I mean, there are, there's a big disparity now in the,

in levels of education, even in this country

where

people just don't have a grasp of, of certain basic things.

But I don't know why that is.

I think there's so much to learn now, particularly at school with children.

I mean, syllabuses.

When we were growing were very, very simple. Yes.

So when we talk about syllabus, we're talking about a section

of learning normally concerning a particular subject.

So but this is interesting what you've just said, that because

teaching in school and learning in school

is often seen as the most crucial thing in your life.

But one thing I learned, Steve, is after I left school,

I realised there was still a lot of life.

It's still a lot of things I didn't really know and understand,

and it was the experience that came after that

that gave me the biggest education.

And it's not just myself saying that a lot of people do

say that they they learnt more

after they left school

than, than when they were actually at school.

And another thing to mention is more people

now are educating their kids at home because they don't

trust the education systems in their country.

I know it's very big in the USA.

A lot of people now are homeschooling their kids for that reason.

Yes, since the pandemic people have sort of got used to

or they might not even be homeschooling them at all.

They've just decided they're not going to bother sending them to school at all.

And that's very bad.

It's very bad. And it it's okay.

I think it's okay if the parents decide to to homeschool the child.

I don't think there's any problem with that because I think it is

becoming more and more normal for parents to do that.

However, I think maybe

just neglecting your child.

Well, that's

that's a whole different thing, isn't it, really, when you think about it,

That's probably why kids can't read

or adult or or clean their teeth.

I know that's we live in dangerous times.

Says or can't remember your name.

Now they've been suggesting that I should be drinking vodka as well.

Well, how do you know there isn't vodka in here?

That would be Lena, is it Lena?

is it Lena?

I'm not, is it?

But it is interesting how you learn things

even when you're not in a learning environment.

So I these days I learn things all the time.

There's always something that pops up

from the internet or maybe something I hear, or

even just something you see around you in nature.

You might see an unusual moment of time

occur between two animals, maybe

a kind of interaction between animals.

And you think, that that's unusual.

That's very strange.

There was a very unusual interaction between two whales that I saw.

Is this the other day?

I think it was two.

It was it was a blue whales.

I don't know.

yes. Look, you said no use.

You told me, Steve.

You told me that there were humpback whales.

Humpback.

That's it.

There were humpback whales and they were gay.

They were humpback whales.

And. And this, this, these naturalists, these.

Be careful what you're saying now.

I'm just saying these sort of naturalists have been following this

this this group of humpback whales for many, many years.

you know what naturalists are like?

They always wanted they were going to film animals copulating.

Yeah, that's their ultimate aim. Faster.

And if they can get a shot of two animals copulating there,

I think they know that that's what they want to show is isn't it?

And they've been following this group of whales for years

and they've never seen them having sex.

So they finally got a picture of these two whales having sex.

And you'll never guess it out.

They were both male. Yes.

And so they were rather shocked not only to discover

this particular behaviour in, whales, and they don't know why

they were, but but you know.

Well, what made me laugh had been following them for years. And

and then they found two gay whales.

It was quite it was hilarious.

But it just happened in nature, you see.

So when we talk about gay whales, we're not talking about the country.

We're not saying everyone in Wales is gay.

W h a l e we mean the big whales.

Well, as you said, Mr.

Duncan,

they are called humpback whales, and the word hump is not in there.

It's by by any accident.

They certainly seem to like humping, let's just say.

Yes, But if you look at humpback whales, there was an article

I read only a couple of days ago.

It's very interesting, but it happens.

Monkeys, monkeys quite often will will indulge

in the love that dare not speak its name.

It does happen from time to time anyway.

10 minutes to go.

So I would say that learning is something we never stop doing

and that is one of the reasons why I love doing this here for you.

Because I learn from you

and you learn from myself

also sometimes, Steve, as well.

We learn from each other,

sometimes have a little bit of competition between us, isn't there?

With the learning?

I sometimes I sometimes think, you know,

particularly with news articles and things,

because you're obviously reading the news and I am.

And then we, you know, I disappear upstairs for a couple of hours

and you're in here, I go to work and then

I'll suddenly mention a news story and you say, yes, I saw that one.

Yeah.

And vice versa, because there's so much to learn all the time

about what's going on in the world. It's.

It's you just you can't keep up to date with everything.

It just would be impossible.

Don't you find that one of the things I've noticed, too, is people

always like to compete, but between groups

or individuals as to what they know.

So the worst thing you can do, Steve, is join

a group of people who have an interest in something.

And then when you join immediately, they will try to

they will try to work out.

They will look at you and try to work out what you actually know

about that particular thing, How does he know?

And then you always get some people who will show off

with their knowledge because they they have to say that

I'm the

one who who knows the most in this group.

There's something interesting, Mr.

Duncan, we've noticed this when we are in groups of people with groups of people.

Now, people fact check you.

So you might say something, you might see, you might give some information

to somebody.

And instead of accepting what you said, then actually go on their phone

right in front of you and check that what you've said is right.

This has happened to me many times.

We've been in company with other people.

Yes. I've said something

as a as a fact.

And then the person like, well, look at that phone

and check to check that what you said is right fact checking.

Yeah.

I mean, do you get that viewers, where people

are fact checking you right in front of you on their phones?

I started to think that it was only me this was happening to.

I think I think people just don't trust me.

I know.

I mean, they might do it later, but to do it right in front of you

is rather rude.

and, but of course, there are

some people that want to know more than you, and they don't like it.

If you know something that they don't know.

I'm talking about knowledge and learning.

There is a certain type of person that

rather than accept what you say, they don't like the fact

that you know something that they don't. Yes.

Because they think that they will know

and they get quite upset if you know something that they don't.

So they will often check.

And of course, you know what they say, knowledge is power.

And it is even in small situations with small groups of people,

there is always one person in that group

who might appear more knowledgeable than all the rest, and they normally

are the one that they are normally the person

who trying to get the power in that group.

So. So yes, I think I think knowledge is often seen as a type of power.

So that is why many people go to university

and they study and they get fancy names or

or letters after their name, like Mr.

Steve does seem.

Mr. Stevens has letters after his name.

I've got a few.

Yes. Are

yeah, they did say yeah.

I mean, I read something the other day by somebody

a quite famous

sort of investor

shall we say, quite well known in the field of

sort of investing in portfolios and all that sort of thing.

And he said that to 99% of all degrees now

are still useless in the modern world

and that he said he, would never take anybody on board

from his on his company who'd got certain degrees

because they were pretty much a waste of time.

And and he said that university and school

it really it's all about teaching you how to learn.

You really learn when you start going to the real world. Yes.

And that is very true.

Yes, that's true.

I mean, obviously certain things have you want to become a doctor?

You know you don't to be picking that up as you go along.

You want to

you ought to pretty much know if you go to a doctor,

you want them to have some letters after their name.

Okay, Yes, for a lawyer.

But people expect that in that situation,

if you are cutting the person open and taking their heart out,

you want to know that that person knows how to do it.

But there are many they call them junk degrees

because they are worthless.

So that person will go to university.

Humanities is a good one.

Social studies is another.

I think humanities art

maybe to a degree,

as it were, if you excuse the pun,

but did you know the most valuable,

the most valuable degree you can have?

And here is a great bit of advice for those out there

who aren't sure what they want to study.

Engineering is the one

apparently engineering a degree

in engineering or skill in engineering apparently is the most powerful

of all the degrees you can have because it allows you

to move into big industries, very big industries.

They are always looking for fresh brains

that are interested in engineering, and the reason is because they always

want to have a fresh outlook

or a fresh way of looking at things.

So they always want people who have engineering degrees

and it can move you into all sorts of fields.

Yeah, of course, weaponry,

weapon development

needs, engineering.

People who have have graduated

from university with engineering degree.

So apparently that's the one if you want the most valuable of all the degrees

engineering, the one apparently

where it is.

Yes, you're right. Engineering.

Beatrice is saying that her family are always fact

checking on Google of what she's saying.

It must be very difficult these days to be because knowledge is now.

Knowledge used to be if you were to teach

university or something

like that, you are like a God because you know

you built all this knowledge up over all these years.

But now you can just find out this knowledge

in seconds by just Googling virtually anything.

I mean, I don't think you could find out from Google how to do heart transplant.

No, But, you know, there are certain things.

You know, probably I mean, for all I know, you can if you Google

how to do a heart transplant, it may even beyond that.

I don't know.

I don't think people are trying it, though, are they?

But I think they're not going into the kitchen.

They're not they're not getting someone to lie on the table

and then start performing open heart surgery on them.

So I don't think that's actually happening.

But generally speaking, I think I think knowledge

is a very strange thing nowadays because we don't need to learn.

It's almost the opposite.

I think people are becoming

more stupid because

knowledge or information

is so available, so you don't need to remember it.

All you need is your phone.

So if you need to know something, you just get the information straight away.

It doesn't mean that you are learning that thing.

It just at that moment you have that particular information,

whereas in the

past you had to learn it, you had to remember it,

you couldn't an encyclopaedia

or a large, thick book around with you all the time.

But nowadays, of course, the world.

Is it your fingertip up.

It's an impressive there

when you talk to somebody and they know they know about a subject.

There's only

so much you can learn from going on the internet.

That's true.

And I think there'll always be a place

for for lecturers and and things like that.

But yes, knowledge learning sets aside.

It just just keeps your brain active, doesn't it?

Learning something new, particularly as I'm getting to that point in my life

when I might be thinking of retiring from work.

You can't, you know, I don't want to just stop and do nothing.

I've got to do something

that keeps my brain active, that keeps me,

you know, stops my brain deteriorating. Yes.

Well that that's that's something that should always be there

to a certain degree or a certain amount

that you are never too old to learn.

I would like to leave today with something positive.

You say positive so we can take something positive away from that,

which is you're never too old to learn.

There is no point in your life where you should sit down and say, That's enough.

I, I can't learn new in this world.

There is always something.

There is always an opportunity somewhere.

Quite often you have to look for it.

It doesn't

and say Hello, I'm your new opportunity.

Sometimes you have to search for it or find it.

You have to look.

And that is part of the fun.

Part of the fun is finding out what interests you, what what,

what makes you excited what gets you out of bed in the morning

and makes you feel excited to face the day, that sort of thing.

So one of the things I love doing is this.

So this always makes me excited

and playing around with all the technology involved as well.

So you are never to

to learn new things that.

Can you believe it?
