and the result is very close.

Maybe one group

got slightly more votes than the other.

We can say that was too close for comfort.

The losing team is sad,

but the winning team is also a little concerned

because they almost lost.

It was too close for comfort.

Maybe if a person gets very near to you like this,

you might feel threatened and uncomfortable.

We can say that that person is too close for comfort.

So as you can see,

we can use that phrase in many situations,

both figuratively and in the real world.
