So we've got 13 years so far at the maximum 13.

Well, 13 is quite a long time, I suppose.

my life streams started much later in 2016, in July.

And at first, even on the live streams, Mr.

Steve wasn't with me.

So it was quite a long time before Steve started joining in.

In fact, it was Christmas, I think it was Christmas 2000,

and it might have been 2006 when you started.

I was one of the first people to start doing regular

live streams as an English teacher before that, there weren't

many people doing live streams because it still was new technology.

Even in 2016, it was pretty new.

So I was one of the first people to do that and I'm still doing it now.

All those years later. However,

it is also fair to say that way back in 2006

and here is a brief introduction to what we're doing today,

way back in 2006,

I was

doing lots of things and that is what we are going to show a little bit later on.

So to give you an idea of the sort of things we are going to show later

on, here is a quick excerpt of some of the things

I've done over the years.

But this is actually the same thing, the same prop that I used all those years ago.

When I started doing this and this is one of the things I'm sure

a lot of people remember if you were watching my early videos.

So I was receiving my best Teacher

in the World award, even though I've never actually got one in real life.

When you think about well, it doesn't matter you know some people have been watching for two years

Duncan all that time again, because, of course, you're all very well from whenever you start watching,

even if it's one month ago, who's been watching you

the least amount of time, There's another question.

So we've got Vytas, who started 17 years ago, who probably when you first joined,

that's going to be difficult to beat, but who has been watching for the shortest time?

Yeah. So have you just been watching for a day?

Is this your first time to watching any of Mr.

Maybe you've been watching for 20 minutes. Yes.

So who's been on the least amount of time?

And we're not talking about people who change their names and come back on to somebody else.

That doesn't count

before anybody gets clever.

Yes, we've got two years.

So we know that.

Of course, all of these all these things can't be proved.

So I'll just take your word for it.

But I did start making my YouTube

lessons way back in 2006

whilst I was still living in China.

So that's how far back it goes.

And it wasn't me that actually created the YouTube channel originally.

Not a lot of people know this.

You see, it was actually my friend at that time in China

and he suggested YouTube to me.

So he showed me the page and he helped me

to create my my YouTube channel.

And I always remember that the first name of my channel was Duncan in China.

So that was what most people knew me as

with my YouTube channel.

Then of course, many years later I changed the name to speak English with Mr.

Duncan.

And then later I changed it to English Addict

because I wanted it to fit with our live streams.

So over 17 years,

and I have to say that is a long time to do something, isn't it really?

When you think about it?

It's a very long time, isn't it, Steve?

It feels like an evolve. Yes.

I mean, some people haven't been alive for 17 years.

Who's watching who, who, who's what.

So we want to know.

We find out who's been watching the longest, which is VHS.

We want to know who's been watching for the shortest time.

We also want to know who is the youngest person watching.

Is there anybody watching who is, say, six years old, who wasn't even alive when Mr.

Duncan first started putting his videos on to make me make me feel old?

They're not really supposed to technically, they're not supposed to be watching this.

But but I know lots of younger people do watch.

And of course, we mustn't forget the other end of the spectrum,

I like although I know I'm watched everywhere

in very unusual places, even prison as well

if they locked them inside a large cell with a huge TV screen

and they play my my English lessons to them

for hours and hours without stopping, they don't even allow them to go to sleep.

Right here where we live, we are going to get

giga Internet,

which means a thousand megabyte connection

and also around about 60,

60 megabytes upload speed, which means that we will be able

to broadcast our live streams in even

better quality than we are now.

So I'm really looking forward to that.

They're still putting the cables into the village and it might take a while, but apparently

we've been told early next year, spring 2024,

we are going to get ultra fast broadband right here.

Cable in our tiny little village.

Yes, it's interesting.

People might find this interesting. They might not,

because obviously the signal goes has been there.

The traditional way is the old copper wires under the ground or over the top,

and they're going to replace all that.

You can only get to a certain speed, can't you, with copper wires.

It's not. It's not very reliable either.

And it's all being replaced with cable, fibre optic cable.

I've forgotten the point, but I was going to say now is the.

And, but they're doing it over the whole of the country

gradually, but they are giving priority.

because it's easier to put it into a village because they can just put poles up.

So it has to be going out at a very fast speed

as well as coming from here to the Internet and then off to everybody else who's watching them.

The upload, then that's it. And no, no upload.

Yes, upload is me broadcasting sending.

Yeah. And download is coming back.

So most people worry about the download speed.

That to them is the most important.

But for me doing a live stream, the upload is important and at the moment we only get six

six. What,

six megabytes right of upload speed which is.

What per hour.

No. Yeah. Yeah.

Well most people know that this, that it's six again

from six to what

again.

From 6 to 6. Are you.

So is that ten times the speed. Yes.

Well it will be about ten times the speed so it's pretty good.

But the telephone poles don't blow over very often.

The only time that that might be a problem is if a tree falls

and breaks the cable, in which case it's easy to fix because they don't have to dig up the streets to do it.

We only have a certain amount of time in this world.

The word mortal comes from the Latin word mortals,

which literally means to die.

You see this word used in mortuary?

A place where dead bodies are kept.

Mortality.

The event of death or death on a large scale.

One of the most confusing parts of expressing numbers

is when we are mentioning a date that includes

a day of the week, month and year.

In written English, we tend to put an emphasis on the day, followed by the month.

For example, the 12th of August occurring

this year would be written like this.

All like this.

It would be spoken as the 12th of August 2010.

We can also write it like this.

The day.

Then the month. Then the year.

12th of the eighth.

2010.

In some other countries, the order is different.

The month comes first, then the day and finally the year.

So it would read like this.

There is a phrase in English.

A walk down memory lane.

This phrase means that you are spending some time

thinking or talking about past events.

We spent the whole afternoon down

memory lane talking about our school days.

You might invite a person to take a stroll down memory lane.

This means that you want to talk to them about their past.

Sometimes it is nice to take a walk down memory lane.

The action of fondly

remembering past events can be described as being nostalgia.

Pick a nostalgic moment.

You are being nostalgic about something you long for.

That's time to return the way something was done in the past,

or an attitude towards something which no longer exists.

You reflect over days gone by.

Nostalgia is the noun that names this action

items that you bought or were given to you many years ago.

Can help you remember a past event,

a souvenir you bought during a past holiday or a present

given to you on your wedding day can help to keep that time fresh in the memory.

We can describe these items as memorabilia.

It would be fair to say

that we all go through times when things seem bad.

People can sometimes let you down.

They have the ability to say things that make you unhappy.

Events and circumstances may come along and destroy your plans for the future.

A little trip down memory lane there

with lots of old video clips

going right back to 2006.

I can't believe I've been doing that for such a long time now.

So many memories and so many more.

So many more memories that I could have showed as well.

I have to say, I was getting a little bit emotional there.

I left the way I looked.

Way back in 2006.

So those those clips you saw at the very beginning were

were the first things that I ever recorded

when when I started playing around with my camera.

So the camera back then was a very basic camera.

It was very good at taking photographs, but the video quality was awful.

I think it was around 17 frames per second

and the actual resolution was really, really low.

I think it was about 240 PPI.

And when you think nowadays

the average resolution is 2160 PPI,

that is an amazing difference.

That's like going a postage stamp

to a huge Billboard poster.

So it is amazing.

That's why when you say things, you say that I say things that people stop watching.

Well, this is relevant, you say, because it relates to how things have changed over the years.

I love I love looking at old YouTube videos because it's amazing.

Look at how different everything was.

The picture was square.

The resolution was awful.

You only had 10 minutes to actually make your video in.

So So there were lots of different rules and regulations.

Very different.

By the way, YouTube was so different in 2006.

Some people might say it was better back then.

Some people say that it's better now.

I suppose it depends how old you are.

But it is amazing that there are people who don't even remember.

And this is the thing that always shocks me. Steve.

There are people who don't remember.

YouTube in its early days.

It's like a it's like something they just hear about.

are you happy with the present?

well, I certainly enjoyed my time in China and I enjoyed

finding out that there are new ways of sharing my interest in English.

So I suppose those two things did come together.

And it is interesting how they both also created what we're doing now.

So from that point in time to this right now,

it's all been a slow progression.

Sometimes go up,

it quite often go down as well.

But there you go.

That as they say, is life.

You have savoury, you have sweet, and then you have the pancake as well.

And it's absolutely delicious.
