hmm just a very gentle reminder that the  clocks have gone forward here in the uk

for those who are wondering what  is going on yes the clocks have  

changed here in the uk so for those who  are wondering what is going on i am not on  

it's a different time it is now 2 p.m  or should i say 4 minutes past 2 p.m  

here in the birthplace of the english  language which just happens to be england

did you remember i did remember i i  remembered this morning when i woke up  

and i wasn't sure what time it was but  now i do it is four five should i say  

five minutes past two o'clock it is a sunday  afternoon and yes we are all here together again  

it might be a different time where you are  so thank you very much for checking the  

new time difference and this happens every  single year in fact it happens twice a year  

in spring we put the clocks forward by one hour  and just as winter approaches we put the clock  

back one hour so yes i know it is  very confusing it's confusing for me  

as well to be honest for those wondering who  i am oh by the way my name is mr duncan i talk  

about the english language i've been doing it  for many years this year 15 15 years on youtube

maybe i need my head testing maybe there  is something wrong with my brain but i have  

been doing this for nearly 15 years i know you  don't even get that for murder you really don't  

so today yes we have some things going on so  first of all can i just explain very quickly  

that the clocks have gone forward one hour from  gmt to bst for those wondering what that means  

gmt means greenwich mean time so that is  the standard time that we normally follow  

however during the summer time we have british  summer time or some people call it daylight  

saving time so british summer time is what we are  now following as far as the clock is concerned

every year this causes a lot of chaos and  confusion for many people around the world  

because of course here we do it but also some  other countries as well including the united  

states so other countries also change their clocks  however not everyone does it so you can see why  

it might cause a little bit of confusion it's a  windy day by the way here have a look outside wow  

we have a very breezy day here in england at the  moment and you can see the wind is blowing and  

also you can see that already we have some lovely  flowers coming out we have the forsythia can you  

see the yellow flower that particular flower  is called a forsythia it is a type of bush  

and normally at the start of spring that  particular bush will will come out and reveal  

its beautiful yellow flowers so that is one of  the things you can see there also you can see  

some cherry blossom on the tree just behind the  foresight here and and if you look very closely  

at this at the side of the screen at the bottom  right of the screen you will be able to see  

some of the rhododendron which is starting to  come out into bud so there are some buds already  

on the rhododendrons and it is a windy  day it is very windy here in fact

so here we are all together again it's nice to  see you to see you very very gladly to be honest  

and as i said earlier yes the time  might seem different today because  

as i mentioned at the start of the  show the clocks have gone forward

oh my microphone is closed how long  has my microphone been closed for  

has my microphone been closed i don't  know what's happening today i don't  

know why my microphone was closed is it  is it working now can you hear me now

this is going well shall i start this  again i know what i'm going to do i'm

it's really weird i don't know what's going  on today it feels very strange it feels very  

straight how long was my microphone turned  off how long what three minutes four minutes

i can't believe it i really can't believe it  

how did that happen i don't normally make  a mistake with my microphone but today i  

don't know everything is is a little bit of  a i suppose the word i might use is fiasco  

oh that's a good word we will look at that  a little bit later on so you might describe  

today's live stream as a little bit of a fiasco  we have mr steve coming up later on i'm now having  

a hot sweaty moment because i've just realized  that i didn't have my microphone open i'm very  

sorry about that hello mohsen guess what you  were first on today's live chat oh well done

i think my button has a problem how strange i  think my little button has a problem it's not my  

fault apparently it looks like i have a technical  problem with my with my microphone oh interesting  

so it's not my fault it's not me not making  the sound work yes that's interesting ah

oh hello tomek nice to see you here today yes  there there are some things that sometimes happen  

with my equipment and one of the things  is you can lose the audio let me just

one on one yes that's interesting i think it might  be my fault um very interesting also very annoying  

because anyone watching this for the first time is  going to wonder why this guy is so unprofessional  

coming up today we have mr steve we also have the  sentence game coming later on i know not everyone  

likes the sentence game but it is fun if you are  learning some new words and expressions also today  

we will be going out into the garden watching mr  steve use his axe that coming up later on as well  

and today because because i was reading the  the news yesterday i was looking at some of the  

internet news stories as i do  sometimes at the weekend and i noticed  

that a company that does cosmetic surgery  and by that i mean hair replacement

because as you know mr steve and myself we  are losing our hair that is the reason why  

i wear my hat to cover up my big shiny globe but  yesterday a cosmetic company who actually helped  

people to regrow their hair using surgery they  decided to make a list of the sexiest bald men  

in the world do you know who was number one i will  tell you later on also we will be looking at some  

interesting words as well after mr steve joins  us today i thought we would have a look at some  

words that we use quite often in english but maybe  they are words that you've never heard before

yes i i went to bed very late last night that  is another reason why my brain is not working  

properly today that is another reason why  you are right you might have a very good  

point there tomek i think so so that might be the  reason why my life subscribers have gone up by  

one oh good that's nice that's nice to know  maybe i shouldn't be drawing attention to that  

today maybe i shouldn't so today it's a weird  day it's a strange day the clocks have gone  

forward i'm not sure if it's morning night or  whatever it's a bit like going on an airplane  

and you get jet lag that's what it feels like  today and also yes it's my fault because i went  

to bed very late last night i was watching a  movie with mr steve a terrible movie it was  

the most boring movie i've ever watched but mr  steve wanted to watch it so i sat there with him  

last night watching this movie and it was really  really boring we might talk about that later on

anarchy also hates the change in the time i  know every year people have the same debate  

people talk about whether or not to stop doing  it do we really need to keep changing the clocks  

every year because all it does is cause confusion  some people end up getting out of bed too late  

maybe they miss appointments or  maybe they get somewhere too early  

or maybe they get out of bed too early because  of the change in the time but yes i think it's  

a very confusing thing in every year it happens  when the clocks go back and also forward like  

today so today the clocks have gone forward  by one hour i can't believe that i've spent so  

much time explaining that but every year it does  cause a lot of confusion i can tell you right now

i'm looking at some very funny pictures on  my screen by the way so if i seem distracted  

i apologize mr steve will be with us a little  later after we have seen an excerpt from one  

of my full english lessons which reminds me i  almost forgot it reminds me that there are new  

full english lessons every wednesday so every  wednesday there is a new full english lesson  

and last week we had full english number  43 next wednesday there will be a new full  

english lesson again and yes we will be looking at  some very interesting subjects and topics as well  

next week next wednesday there will be a new full  english lesson yeah are you excited i hope so

you have stopped changing the clocks apparently  in brazil it is not done anymore i think that's a  

brilliant idea i do wish that we would stop doing  it here to be honest just just make your mind up  

do you want to be gmt or bst does it really matter  as long as the sun is shining and we can all go  

outside that's all we need to do mr steve will be  here as i mentioned and yes we are going to have  

a look at one of my full english lessons  this is taken from full english number 22

i don't know about you but so far today's  live stream has been a little bit of a fiasco  

do you ever find yourself feeling outraged by  something you have seen or heard when this happens  

a person might say that they feel outraged by  it the emotion they feel is outrage the thing  

they feel outraged by is outrageous these days  people seem to become outraged by many things  

trivial moments of time are blown out of  proportion by generating outrage among people  

did you hear the outrageous comment that  politician made yesterday it's an outrage mr  

duncan is talking about outrage which i think is  outrageous the word outrage refers to the feeling  

of anger caused by something that appears  offensive rude unfair or upsetting you feel

dear mr duncan was it really necessary for you  to start your lesson off by shouting loudly  

as it made me fall off the toilet  and hit my head on the wash basin  

yes that's right i watch you whilst sitting on  a toilet i find it helps to move things along  

a bit please don't do it again yours  annoyed and slightly injured mr lomax

we live in an age where trends and  fashions come and go at a very fast pace  

today's new fad very quickly ends  up being yesterday's dumb thing  

something new soon becomes old hat and stale this  seems to happen more and more these days whether  

it's music trends or fashion ideas or the latest  piece of high tech such as an updated mobile phone  

or computer console like the tide  the trends come in and go out  

a short-lived fashion can be described as being  a flash in the pan this expression clearly shows  

the existence of something that became immensely  popular albeit for a short time it was just a  

flash in the pan it was short-lived in a  figurative sense it is here today and gone

tomorrow

here we go again another breakfast with  mr slurpee i really want to tell him how  

annoying his noisy eating is and look at that  porridge that's not how you make porridge  

what on earth is he wearing there a wolverine  t-shirt for goodness sake grow up man you  

are 50 years old i really want to tell him how  annoying he is but it will only hurt his feelings  

look at him filling his smug face with milky  porridge and he never stops going on about english  

is there a problem mr duncan for crying out  loud do you have to eat your porridge like that  

it's so annoying and that's not even how you  make porridge it's too weak you always add  

too much milk and what's with the t-shirt it's a  comic book character you are not a child anymore  

for goodness sake grow up you are 50 years old  

start acting like an adult you are so  immature and childish it's not just one thing  

it's everything about you and another thing  you never stop talking about english all  

day you go on and on about english this in  english that i really can't take it anymore

you want to hurt me go right ahead  if it makes you feel any better

you pointing at me it's rude to point  well we're just we're just highlighting  

the fact that you have arrived you see  and some people of course they like to

click i see on mr steve's nose why is it  because it's big notice how i've got a big nose  

it's just just you can just see it that's  all interestingly enough i used to have a  

i used to have a deaf friend okay a friend  who was deaf uh and um he used american sign  

language because there's a difference between  american and british sign language and the  

the death symbol for a british person was  that because indicating a big nose yes that i  

thought that was quite interesting i'm surprised  they didn't i'm surprised they didn't do this  

which means you know the teeth are all all crooked  what apparently is that i'm amazed i don't know if  

i don't know if it was specifically  british or or just european people but  

yes i thought that was quite interesting okay  hello everyone lots of people saying hello to  

me we had somebody from bodrum in turkey watching  very nice cezanne hello sazam watching in turkey  

well we of course have been to bodrum or very  close to it when we went to turkey not very far  

away not very far away the same coast when we  went uh well we've been several times twice so  

it was uh it's good to to have some have somebody  watching us who was from very close to where we  

where we went to i'm sure we went to bodrum beach  can i just say that i am really sick and tired  

of the clocks changing can we just  stop doing it because it causes so  

much confusion and chaos and this morning  when i woke up because i went to bed late  

which of course made it one hour later than it  should have been because the clocks went forward  

so not only did we go to bed late we i also ended  up waking up this morning feeling very tired  

and i also lost one hour of sleep as well all  because of the stupid clocks well uh people have  

been commenting on on that i've noticed a lot  of comments apparently in brazil and argentina  

they stopped changing the clocks uh i  don't know when sounds like it was recently

and i wish we'd stop doing it here because  it does get confusing and i always find that  

there's one clock in your house that you forget  to change and in this case it was the house phone  

and i use the house phone upstairs to look at  what time it is because it's right in front of me  

the time is very clearly displayed and of course  i was thinking i had two hours before i was on  

with mr duncan's live stream and of course  i suddenly looked at my phone and realized  

i'd only got one hour yes this is it and  i wanted to go into town to get a battery  

for some thing new that i've purchased okay and to  send a birthday card to a friend of mine okay then  

uh and uh so i had to rush the point is i had  to rush and i i always find as well mr duncan  

i was trying to work out how much what time  i would have woken up had the clocks not  

changed okay and i you always have to every time  this happens you oh do i take an hour off do i  

add an hour on you're trying to work things  out in your head you never seem to remember  

every time it changes whether it goes forward  or back well spring forward yes but i mean  

you always have to work out what time it is  it's it always always confuses me every time  

but you're right there is always one  clock in the house that you forget  

it's always one clock and it in quite often  it is the clock that you look at the most

it's very strange that isn't it so we are here  together again we are going in the garden in a  

few minutes yesterday mr steve was was waving his  chopper all over the garden he was chopping up  

some wood and we have lots of firewood because a  few weeks well maybe two or three weeks ago we had  

two of our trees chopped down and also and also  sorry they were they were hedged part of a hedge  

and they died yes well they were conifers  conifers anyway i'm getting very confused now  

that's easy i think i might just go back to bed  to be honest oh it's fine carry on mr duncan i was  

talking for five minutes at the start of today's  live stream and i my microphone wasn't working i  

don't know what was going on it's just i'm sure  that people will forgive you i might come back  

later and do it again do you forgive mr duncan i  mean he has to do everything here he's got so many  

instruments in front of instruments well what  would you call them what would you call this  

equipment equipment instruments uh we've got  we've got two screens we've got the live chat  

showing we can see what's coming up before you've  got buttons to press phones you've got microphone  

you've got a desk with levers on that you've  got to adjust the sound you've got a lot to do  

yeah you are using some very interesting  words what would you call it controls yes or  

faders faders that's right faders so there is a  lot of technology all around me it is sad to cut  

trees down victoria but they were two of them had  died yes and you two they were dead they just died  

so uh i thought no they've got to come out because  they look bad i hate cutting trees down i really  

hate doing it we used to when we lived in  wolverhampton one of our neighbors had the  

most glorious tree and every summer it would come  out and it would have these lovely green leaves  

it would be very lush and green and then one year  they went out into the garden and they chopped the  

thing down and i was really upset i was almost in  tears watching this poor tree be hacked and i read  

because science is always progressing  of course the understanding of trees  

and apparently they they now think or somebody  thinks or a few people i don't know i read in a  

scientific paper that trees can communicate with  with each other those are large distances you  

talked about this through the roots somehow or  maybe through chemicals they give off sorry and  

uh you know if another tree is being harmed nearby  you can detect that other trees can know that this  

is happening i don't know whether they know in a  conscious way but they know it's happening because  

they react so it's quite horrible to think that  you could be you could be cutting a branch off  

your tree just merrily just sort of trimming your  hedges and they're all sort of screaming inside

i'm feeling the same way at the moment

i'm screaming inside yes but for for many  different reasons many different reasons indeed

see my equipment that's true bella says it's  sad to cut trees down it is but the trouble is  

in the uk we've got most of us have relatively  small gardens and what people do is that they  

put trees in which are inappropriate for the  garden and it's all right when they're young  

but then they they don't look after them and  things something like a lay land eye okay uh you  

know we'll grow to about 200 foot if you do you  realize we have this exact conversation two weeks  

ago right this is not the repeat by the way of of  a previous live stream all of these things you've  

talked about we've literally talked necessarily  i know but you you we can repeat things you know  

different people are watching anyway in a couple  of moments we are going into the garden because  

yesterday steve was busy with his axe he was he  was cutting up the wood because we are going to  

have some firewood we are going to store it  in the garden and then hopefully next year  

there will be some lovely firewood for us that's  interesting the word axe okay because ask ask  

i want to ask you a question okay okay in some  dialects uh in english uh ask and sound like  

acts yeah i want to ask you something yeah  depending on your accent yes uh so yes  

axe you can sound like ask if you have a certain  accent you you want to ask someone a question  

yeah some people do say that there are some  cultures some dialects where in english where  

ask and acts sound the same what what cultures are  you talking about i don't know but i've i've heard  

it's i've heard people say to me you know i'd like  to ask you something and i'm not sure what the  

accent is but are you sure they just don't want  to give you an axe i've got to be careful what i  

say because if i say something if i if i pinpoint  that down to a certain culture or group of people  

somebody might accuse me of being racist oh i see  i've got to be careful what i say i think steve  

wanted to say black pardon is that what you wanted  to say i'm not able to say anything i don't i  

don't know exactly well which race you're talking  about race it doesn't matter mr duncan lets

anyone would think tommy  could ask me that question  

i asked what question doesn't matter uh do  you need to get a permit from a local council  

it says t you know you don't have to say all these  things no one's forcing you to say these things  

you do actually uh if you've got certain types  of trees if you've got for example an oak tree  

then you cannot chop down an oak tree  even if it's bigger than your garden

unless you get permission to do it it would have  to be there are certain trees that are coming to  

have preservation notices on them certain uh oak  is one of them uh you certainly can't just go and  

chop down an oak tree in your garden well you get  permission if a tree is over a certain age as well  

it can have a preservation order so certain  types of tree if it's very old so sometimes  

you can find maybe a tree that is maybe three four  even 500 years old and and quite often they are  

they have a preservation order so it  means you can't harm them in any way  

but in your garden if you had a 50 year old oak  tree and a 50 year old conifer like a les landai  

you could chop the leyland eye down no one would  care but you wouldn't be allowed to chop the oak  

tree down because that that particular i want to  say breed of tree but that's not correct breed  

that particular species what's the word  i'm looking for well i think you can't  

say species a tree is breed is for  for dogs and cats isn't it animals

uh so yes uh because we had one at home mum and  dad had one there unless it was going to cause  

you can you could take off certain branches yeah  but you could be reported and fine so yes you're  

right tomic anyway steve we've got to have  a break because we are going into the garden  

we were talking about chopping wood well  now guess what we are going to go outside  

this is something we recorded yesterday it is  mr steve waving his giant axe all over the place  

and also somewhere in there you might see  me as well and then we will be back live

but this is no ordinary garden perhaps  you've heard of the garden of eden well this  

is the garden of stephen and there he is mr  steve at the moment is chopping some logs

like that

i must be honest with you it's not as easy  as it looks ow i think steve got me then

oh i must say he's very good at it so mr steve  over the past couple of days has been chopping  

up logs in the garden for next year so we are  going to store the logs outside undercover and  

then next year we will have lots of lovely logs  to put on the fire to keep us warm so over the  

past couple of weeks we've had quite a few trees  chopped down and we have lots and lots of firewood  

so that is what mr steve is doing right now  he's chopping up the logs he's cutting them up

it's very hard work i have to be honest with you  

it does seem very strange to see mr steve doing  something so manly it's a very manly thing

there's one thing i've noticed mr steve seems to  really enjoy swinging this around look at this  

look at it it's a very good way mr duncan  yes of taking out your frustrations  

yes so this is mr steve's axe we were talking  about this a few days ago weren't we so this  

is the axe that mr steve has been waiting  for it's a special type of axe isn't it yes  

it's a splitting axe so this particular  type of axe is used for splitting wood  

so anything so you won't use this for  chopping down a tree you you use this to split  

the wood so mr steve will hold this  high above his head and he will split  

the pieces of wood let me demonstrate mr duncan  okay mr steve is going to show us we've been  

watching steve doing this but now we're going to  get a get a complete demonstration of mr steve's

method of splitting the logs  here's a big one that's a big one

very good one

so

well that's pretty good i must admit he makes  it look very easy don't you think but i can tell  

you now it is not easy now apparently one of the  things you have to do is you have to let the axe  

do the chopping so what you are really doing is  lifting the axe and using the weight of the ax  

and the momentum and weight of the axe to actually  make the wood split we'll have we'll have one more

ah

calm down steve calm down calm down okay  take it down take it down look at this

i absolutely love this this is the most amazing  piece of kit that i've ever seen it reminds me  

of that famous movie called the shining where  jack nicholson is trying to smash the door down  

because he's gone a little bit stir crazy  locked up in that big empty hotel here's johnny

by the way if there are any kids watching  

don't play with axes all right don't  play with them they're not toys

i don't know what steve is doing there no because  you need the protective equipment that's all right  

i just i just want to have a little chop i've  got mr steves put these on first i know you've  

got glasses on i've got mr steve's chopper in my  hand and now i'm going to cut some of his wood

it sounds painful

this will be fun okay then here we go

i'm going to try and do it  myself put these on okay

okay i've never done this before so this  is my first time doing this this is for the  

insurance so if if the insurance company  is watching this is what happened right  

so now as i understand it you have to lift it up  like this and then just let the natural weight  

of the ax fall down let's see okay so  i need to hit it on the end here we go

i like i i like a nice log did you ever log  you had a log earlier didn't you mr duncan

a different type of log okay uh yes that's a big  pile of wood and it goes back it's a meter deep  

so we have a lot of wood i just hope we don't fall  out with any of the neighbors and somebody decides  

to put a match on it because that will create a  very big fire and of course one of the things you  

have to remember about wood if you want to burn  it it has to be very dry true so in a few moments  

we are going to show you a little device that  mr steve bought however right now right now it  

is three o'clock and you know what that means yes  it's time once more for those flags of the world

angola yes to the list because someone asked last  week they said mr duncan can you please put angola  

on the list so yes i did that so there is there  is angola so if you see your flag is not there  

tell mr duncan and he will add it on i will add it  on a few questions about the chopping okay palmyra  

says what tree is it well they're all conifers  yes um types of types of evergreen yes that's it  

it's a softwood tree so there's lots of debate  about whether you should burn softwood people in  

this country a bit snobbish about burning logs  they are i mean you ought to go on the internet  

and read what if you've got a log burner what what  log should you burn and oh it's got to be hardwood  

three-year seasoned oak or something like that  that's been left for years but of course the the  

thing that some people point out is that what what  do scandinavians burn on their fires and obviously  

it's probably mostly conifers uh the the thing is  you can burn anything as long as it's dry enough  

as long as it's dry enough you can burn pretty  much anything is what i seem to have picked up  

from the internet yes and the thing is if you have  logs that you are going to burn on your fire you  

have to make sure that they are dry that's what  i just said so mr steve yes has bought a little  

device was all excited this morning mr duncan why  because i bought this device that measures the  

moisture content of logs so was it delivered  this morning yes oh it came today uh good  

old amazon i ordered it last night and it came  this morning so so let's have a look get it out  

this is it mr duncan i was so excited it wasn't  very expensive at all because obviously because  

those logs were free i don't want to spend too  much on equipment because otherwise there's no  

point having them for free should i switch  it on show us the bloody [ __ ] that's what  

it looks like yes i mean it looks expensive  but it wasn't at all i'm going to switch it  

on it's going to make some beeping noises oh i i  like the name of the company it is brennan stall  

there we go it's saying zero so you put it up  against your now ideally you want the moisture  

content apparently of your logs to be 20 or lower  okay because if it's too high it's smoky and you  

get set in your chimney you can get a chimney  fire there's nothing worse than a soggy log  

so here's an old log that's uh that we've had  for well no this was one that we had delivered  

so it's been dried out to supposedly less  than 20 percent good if i put this on here  

like that see this is amazing this one is only 10  

this has a moisture content of 10 moisture  content of 10 which is very very dry very  

dry and it's ideal so that's one that we had  specially now this is one that i cut yesterday  

so it should be higher than that it should  have more moisture so this is from the garden  

this is from the garden this is one of ours  and look at that that one is well you see

19.8 so just under twenty percent yes so  actually according to the rules i can burn this  

the rules of wood but fifteen percent would  be ideal so if we leave that i think cause  

apparently soft wood like kind of has  dries out a lot quicker than hardwoods  

so like oak so we can burn that i reckon this  year instead of having to leave it two years  

so there we go nice little device  now you could i wonder what you if  

mr duncan do you think you've got any moisture  should i measure the moisture content of your oven  

i like the way steve cuts his own words off in a  sentence when he's talking he interrupts himself  

should i hold your hand up you can do it you  can do it on my on my face or neck shall i yes  

all right should we see what uh whether mr duncan  has any moisture yes in his body i am very moist  

in certain places but but let's just try my  neck what do you think do you think mr duncan's  

moisture content will be higher or lower than the  log am i soggy are you soggy do you think it's 20  

do you think it's 50 percent does anyone care  naught does anyone care shall we measure the  

moisture content of mr duncan okay there we go  now i tried this early it won't give you a shock

the moisture content of the logs and when it's  down to about 12 or 15 percent we can burn them

i get excited about these silly things that  was only 18 pounds that's great so about 20  

20 uh euros you would think it would be a lot more  expensive than that but it wouldn't and it would  

be a very good investment for the future made in  germany yes it got uh 1 500 top five star reviews  

so i thought that's the one so for those who are  interested in measuring the moisture of their  

logs it is called a brennan stool there's lots of  them a brit and schweinsteiger i wouldn't give it  

i would just say i would just call it a moisture  measurer a damp detector something like that yeah  

but there's lots of different makes because i  thought you didn't want to advertise makes of  

products mr duncan look i don't think anyone is  rushing out to buy no no one is rushing out to buy  

one of these well um valentina says you're ready  to burn because your moisture content is below 20  

i think that's hilarious i do think there's much  calorific value in you mr dumpster would you keep  

me warm well uh if we were if we were stuck in the  arctic and mr steve had to eat me you you wouldn't  

last very long there isn't much meat on me uh yes  bella bella says that i should have been shirtless  

uh when i was chopping the logs well i don't  want to inflict that kind of horror on you all

and giovanni made a good point that it's good  to have eye protection when you're chopping logs  

yes because a friend of hers lost an eye yes  through a wood splinter oh this is it i know  

and uh but i also wear headphones yes not  headphones ear defenders the same ones that i use  

when i'm cutting the grass because when you  clonk that down when you're chopping the wood  

there's a very loud sound and apparently  if you do a lot of it it damages your ears  

i've never seen anyone chopping logs  with ear defenders on but i was yesterday

all the list so i thought today we would play  a game we are going to now play spot the baldy

oh steve's face then i wish you could have  seen steve's face you see i i don't know what  

mr duncan has prepared am i on there mr duncan  you are oh no no you're not well you're on here  

but you're not you're not on there so we are  going to play we're going to do this quickly  

so we are going to spot the baldy so what  i'm going to do i'm going to show you the  

the bald heads of five famous people and what  you have to do is guess who they are so first  

of all here we go i will show you the the the the  domes first egghead so there they are we have five

the first one there's a sort of a lump on one side  yes some people don't look very good when they're

but i still i still fell for the charm i  i i think i had more than that actually

well maybe maybe not when he's in a film yeah oh  i see what are you suggesting are you suggesting  

that george clooney might actually be bald i've  noticed these are all white heads by the way  

well yeah you want to accuse us of being racist  well the the problem is if if if a black person  

shaves all their hair off they just look  incredibly cool and amazing so that i am a  

bit jealous ah if you have dark skin you can you  can be bald and you look you look fantastic yes it  

doesn't really it doesn't show up as much whereas  if you've got a white if you've got white skin and  

you're bald it obviously is more prominent yes  anyway number three number three we've also got

steve is sneezing i will sneeze around this  time i think maybe you're allergic to wood

but he doesn't care if people know that he  he wears one it's quite strange i couldn't do  

that you see i've always wanted to wear a wig  and i think mr steve kind of wants to as well  

but you know i think victoria got this right  just before we put it on really yes and we  

have to make we have to make a little sort of  correction we're not saying that george clooney  

is bald no uh we were joking so just in case we  get sued in no way are we suggesting that george  

clooney is bald and wears a wig if georgia  cover it up if george clooney's lawyers  

just happen to be watching no no i can safely say  that george clooney has lovely thick lustrous hair  

yes there so yes nice picture of john travolta  says beatrice yes well there aren't many bad  

pictures of john travolta rather because he is  one of the world's handsomest men i would say  

so yes that well that's why i'm surprised prince  william was voted the sexiest bald guy because  

i think there are there are sexier there are  much more sexy men yes so victoria was the only

keeping my hair the same length which was fairly  sort of long and then eventually i just thought  

sod this just shave it off that's it and  then you don't have to worry every time  

there's a wind blowing is it going to expose  a bald patch i think for a lot of people going  

going bald is very traumatic for a man yes for  most men in fact you know it took me years to  

to uh yeah anyway let's not go into that  now i feel like i'm at the psychiatrist  

the trauma i went through anyway let's go on to  the sentence game is it words connected with being  

bald no okay we have random words today but that's  that's okay steve we we like to have these little  

in-depth conversations so they're using minoxidil  but yeah okay well i tried that and it didn't work  

but i think you need to start it early i started  it too late so good luck i hope it works uh  

no my hair wasn't blonde it was like dark brown

hair in fact it was so thick that the when  i used to go to the barbers when i was young  

uh my mother used to say that he couldn't  get the comb through it but not anymore no  

now it's just a quick spit and polish i was hoping  i mean you'd think they'd come up with a cue of  

a baldness wouldn't you buy now i know i mean i  mean but there are but there are many things they  

can't cure even now you know there are many things  i think baldness is pretty low down on the list  

of priorities well for things that need curing  well not by cosmetics companies i'll tell you if  

they are putting a lot of research into it  because whoever comes up with the cure for that  

that will be a company to invest in yes well  yes it's like it's like the pill that makes you  

live forever by you know buy a thousand pounds  worth of shares in a company that comes up you  

need to be in the no of course anyway right  sorry 20 minutes left yes ma c is going bye-bye  

yes i'm not surprised i think everyone's going i  think minoxidil can slow it down but it doesn't  

stop it all together uh and when i mean 30  years ago when it was first available um  

it was about 30 years ago it was very  very expensive now it's quite cheap so  

it's worth having a go because it might work  right it's cheap because it doesn't work  

i think it does work st i remember  when we first met you said you said  

could you suggest something for my hair  loss and i said a plastic bag they put it in

anyway i've got no room to talk damage says he's  bored i'm losing my hair so max says he's bald but  

whether we can believe that of course is another  thing so we can we can we can say the word baldi  

richard you say baldi i can say baldy slap head  steve can say baldy we we can insult bald people  

because we're losing our hair it's a bit like  it's a bit like the n word we can say the b word  

so bald baldy so so if you've got hair you can't  say baldy you're not allowed to only bald people  

can say bald baldy and slap head richard says  minoxidil works i think it well it does work  

for some people i think so it didn't work for  me and it was very expensive 30 years ago very  

expensive i couldn't afford it i i think i used  it for two months didn't see any result and i was  

nearly bankrupt yes great that explains a lot yes  we save a lot in shampoo we do right anyway faster  

mr dun come on you should be getting on with the  sentence game you just keep jabbering away i'm

so so i think you've got to have that tablet that  magic pill will be the pill that lets you live  

maybe for a hundred or two hundred years but also  it will keep your hair at the same time you know  

what really annoys me mr duncan what annoys you  an ugly man with hair okay when they're older  

oh okay yes i suppose really because you just  think it's wasted on you yes i want that hair  

so if you see a man who you consider to be  unattractive an unattractive man you think  

it's unfair because he he has this lovely thick  hair somebody or an old somebody who's sort of 80  

80 or 90 yeah and they've got a full head of hair  i mean they don't need it no they don't need it  

you know they shouldn't be going bald i should  still i'm only joking i'm joking uh there is a guy  

that lives around here is about i think he's about  80 yes and he's got the most amazing thick head of  

hair it's it's gray but it's just incredible it's  like it's like he's taken the hair from two other  

people and transplanted it onto his head it's just  it's just this thick or of course it might be a  

wig see he might be wearing a wig and fooling  us all so yeah the thing is though of course  

men who go bald they're virile they've got lots  of male testosterone coursing through their veins  

i mean imagine i wouldn't be able to chop  logs mr duncan if i had a full head of hair  

because i wouldn't have enough male hormones the  aggressive nature that's required and the sheer

and some people put the e at the end of the  singular as well so some people spell potato

have the plural so the plural does have an e at  the end not just an s yeah you have to put an e  

and the s that's a common mistake even with  people who who use english as their first language

looking for a cure for baldness that's it maybe  there should be a cure for having hair ah so maybe  

the hair on your head shouldn't be there so maybe  maybe we're right maybe we are the ones that are  

the right ones well i think from from a genetic  point of view evolutionary point it was just  

it was just a joke i think because obviously  our bodies have become more and more hairless  

haven't they i think as as we've developed you  know in terms of over over thousands hundreds of  

thousands of years okay primitive man had a lot of  hair so originally we were very hairy all over oh  

some people like that and the hair has got  less and less so i think if you're bald  

it means you're more advanced genetically  okay i think we we are the future people  

because you know in in 100 000 years time all  humans will be completely hairless is that why  

aliens from outer space are always bald exactly  they're more advanced yes not only physically  

but mentally as well yes but their heads are  normally much larger and they sort of throb  

that's true so yeah so let's not worry uh  jordae and other people can we have another set  

more advanced genetically okay evolutionary terms  steve here is the next sentence game okay i like  

the way steve seems to forget that we're playing  the sentence game but we are we are playing the  

sentence game right now here's another one  you're something of something have given me  

something something so maybe if something  bad happens in your life something that  

causes you some upset maybe a person  will try to give you some sort of help  

maybe they will say things to you to make you feel  better you're something of something have given me  

something something so a person is doing something  and you are also getting something from it  

can i make a suggestion as well i've just thought  of something mr duncan okay if you are maybe  

young and going bald

may i suggest that all the money that you would  have put into or spent having your hair cut permed  

how much would you spend a month on having your  hair cut and seen to maybe 20 pounds a month maybe  

12 times a year i suppose it depends where you go  so why don't you put that 20 pounds into a fund  

put it on the stock market into a balanced fund  20 pounds a month and then in 30 or 40 years time  

see what that's worth and then if there's a cure  for boldness it will surely be very expensive  

and the money that you have had in your  bald fund uh will pay for a new head of  

hair what about that would be very satisfying  you could say well look i put 20 pounds a month  

into this investment fund and 30 years  later i've got 50 000 pounds or whatever  

i wonder how much it would be 20  i'd have to work that out 20 percent  

uh average four or five percent a year uh  compounded over 30 years and how much you'd have

240 pounds a year i would tell you that  i bet you'd have i bet you'd have 20 000  

pounds i bet you would you could put that into  a little tracker a tracker fund that's it put  

it away forget about it you'll have 20 000  pounds in 30 years time something like that  

yes does it also work with teeth can you  do the same thing with teeth so all of the  

money you would spend cleaning your teeth  so you just wait for them all to fall out  

and then you can all the money you've saved you  can buy some false teeth and just put them in  

there you can have the last laugh as baldi's if  i thought about that when i was 25 but you didn't  

i would have said to myself you know if i was  clever or if somebody had been clever and said  

it to me how much money do you spend a month  on having your hair done 20 pounds a month put  

that into an investment fund on the stock market  and then in 30 years time you'd be able to laugh  

at everybody because you'll have thousands of  pounds that they didn't have that they've spent  

on having their hair done yes that's it why  are you telling us the same thing again you've  

just told us this i know why you you're just  repeating it i'm giving people consolation  

and comfort well look we're on live streams  and i'm bald doesn't make any difference yes

great comfort so words of condolence maybe  if something bad happens or sad happens  

a person will give you support quite often  they will say things to you to make you feel  

better to give you some words of encouragement  condolence the words or your words of condolence  

have given me great comfort often you use that  word in respect of somebody that you know who's  

a relative has died so you will say or  you know i'm sending you my condolences  

so that means your heartfelt sincere wishes  yes uh and that you are expressing your  

um feelings with them yes at their loss you're  giving them support as well so so the words of  

condolence are normally words that are said  to help the person get through that difficult  

situation usually is associated with death right  isn't it yes if you've lost a friend or a family  

member quite often someone will say i wish to  give you my condolences so you are expressing  

your sorrow or your sadness yes and you want  to give some support to the person uh valentin  

has come up with a ten letter word that also  fits in place of condolence yes compassion oh  

compassion yes that's very good compassion yeah  is another word that we can use you are showing  

care and understanding you are giving or  showing compassion i like that one which is  

very similar to condolence yes very similar we  can sometimes use those as synonyms definitely

i'm going to sit out the next hour just to see  what happens even though you're not it was okay  

okay uh it was okay but it was a bit predictable  but pedro that was the last four passengers don't  

watch it it's all right okay let me just talk  you've been talking i'm i'm putting my side now  

you've had your side i'm having my side this is  my say on on the terrible film that is passengers  

steve thinks i'm shouting if you've got nothing  better to do and you like science fiction  

if you want if you've watched everything on  netflix and that might be the last film that's on  

there that you haven't seen still don't watch it  a lot of plot holes it's a it's a boring tedious  

and it was okay it's a very tedious film well it  has this it has one of the stupidest endings ever  

i i would say i would give it three out of five  i would give it zero no it wasn't that bad it was  

terrible i i think also it's it was sending out a  very bad message to the treatment of of women by  

men as well when you think about it if you've seen  the film it does actually yes so if you want to  

trick a woman deceive her into wanting to be  intimate with you then just do what that guy did  

in passengers it's it's it's it's actually  a bit creepy that's uh that is that uh  

yes could be seen as a very misogynist  film yes well and also abusive film  

just yes it's just not a very nice can you think  about it yes but then if you were in his situation  

would you do the same well and and if it was a  woman who was in that situation would she do that  

to a man i mean it's all about  loneliness yes we're not going to  

we're not going to okay steve because i  would imagine no one has seen the film  

because it it did very badly at the box office and  and the critics hated it and so did i it's it's  

very tedious jennifer lawrence was she jennifer  lawrence and chris pratt or as i like to call him

see this for me is chris pratt that that's that's  chris pratt a piece of wood on screen hello my  

name is chris pratt and i always play the romantic  lead but i am basically just a block of wood yeah  

she was very good jennifer lawrence was quite  good he was he was a bit wooden jennifer lawrence  

has been in many things yes i thought she was  very good in it her acting was very good but

misogynist jimmy if you are a misogynist it  means that you don't like women yes or you're

iranian cinema i don't know that interesting um  anyway we are playing the sentence game and it is  

four minutes past i don't know what counterfactual  means i would think it would mean untrue ah  

and true yes something that a person is trying  to get people to believe but it might go against  

the thing that is actually true so  something that is counterfactual  

is something that that is the opposite of fact so  it is something that a person is trying to to say  

is true but it isn't or maybe an action might be  described as counter well we use the word counter  

to mean opposite opposite way around the opposite  way around the opposite effect so something that  

maybe if you are doing something that  doesn't allow you to get your work done
