Oh, you definitely hear some tuts,

think is the biggest 'not to do' in the UK?

As a native Brit, give me one of  the 'dont's' of British culture.

You must never stand (to)  the left of an escalator,

especially when in the London Underground.

특히 런던 지하철에서는 에스컬레이터 왼쪽에 절대 서 있으면 안 됩니다.

Yeah, everyone hates it when you do that,

so never, never do that.

절대, 절대 하지마.

So the first thing that comes into my mind is

그래서 내 마음에 가장 먼저 떠오르는 것은

don't jump forward in a queue. - Right, okay.

대기열에서 앞으로 건너뛰지 말라는 것입니다. - 알았어.

Queue in a nice, neat order.

멋지고 깔끔한 순서로 줄을 서십시오.

Don't jump the queue.

대기열을 건너 뛰지 마십시오.

Okay, never say 'pants' instead of 'trousers',

알겠습니다. '바지' 대신 '바지'라고 말하지 마세요.

'cos that's just wrong.

그건 잘못된 얘기니까요.

It's trousers. Pants are a different thing.

바지입니다. 바지는 다른 것입니다.

Okay, so then, what are  pants? - Pants are underwear.

좋아요, 그럼 바지가 뭐죠? - 바지는 속옷입니다.

I discovered here, queues.

여기서 대기열을 발견했습니다.

You know, we don't queue elsewhere in the world,

우리는 세계 어느 곳에서도 줄을 서지 않기

so that was a good thing.

And then there was the  off-licence closing at 11pm.

Well, when you sort of, you get in someone's way,

or you get to a door at about the same time,

then we always say sorry automatically,

when actually most of the time,

it's not your place to say sorry. - Right.

It could be them, but you say it automatically,

it's a reflex response.

I think that's one of our  automatic cultural ways in the UK.

Yep, so would your answer sort of be;

don't be afraid to say sorry too  often, or something like this?

A cultural 'don't'...

문화적인 '하지 마세요'... '

You can word it in another way  so that you can say 'do this'.

이렇게 하세요'라고 말할 수 있도록 다른 방식으로 표현할 수 있습니다.

Okay, so some something, I think  that we do a lot in our culture

알겠습니다. 우리 문화에서 많이 하는 것이

is apologise frequently.

자주 사과하는 것이라고 생각합니다.

Probably quite meaningless sometimes,

때로는 의미가 없을 수도

but sometimes it's an apology  for inconveniencing someone else.

있지만 때로는 다른 사람에게 불편을 끼친 것에 대한 사과일 수도 있습니다.

So; ''I'm really sorry I've  just inconvenienced you''.

그래서; ''불편을 끼쳐드려 정말 죄송합니다' '.

''Oh, I'm so sorry. Oh, I'm so sorry''.

''아, 정말 미안해. 아, 미안해''.

And we end up running around  apologising to everyone,

그리고 우리는 결국 모든 사람에게 사과하며 돌아다니게 됩니다

probably not really meaning it.

And so then, what... what is it that your kind of,

let's say you're... you're speaking to me

and I'm like, a non-native Brit.

Are you telling me; don't be  afraid if I apologise to you,

Oh yeah, you can over apologise,  all you want to us Brits,

because I think we probably love it.

So if you're... if you're standing,

you have to stand on the  right and if you're walking,

you walk on the left.

Obviously, it's very busy in London.

I don't know how many people live there,

'Argy-bargy' is British slang for a quarrel,

Well, that would be to go back to the queue

and wait half an hour. - But  would you sort of, reprimanded,

if you were to do it, d'you think?

Yeah! - Would you really?  - Yeah. - I always kind of,

consider... - I do, if people jump the queue.

That's quite direct, because us Brits typically,

are quite passive aggressive, right? - True.

That's true, yeah. - In my  mind, you'd hear a few tuts.

Oh, you'd definitely hear some tuts.

And then, someone would have  the confidence to say something.

There's a term; 'that's pants', right?

And people are not saying that's like, 'trousers'.

'That's pants', which kind of, would mean like...

It's rubbish.

I don't quite know why. - No.

Why pants are like, equivalent to...

British humour, I think.

It's just like pants; toilet humour.

that's the... - But would you say that?

Is that something that people could say,

if they came into Britain and  like, something was rubbish?

Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Like;  'that's pants'. - Yeah, probably.

응. - 응. - 응. - 좋다; '바지'입니다. - 그래, 아마도.

I don't say it, but...

말하지는 않지만...

I probably would, why not?

Do you think there are no...

that the rules kind of, change in London,

같은 규칙이 런던에서 바뀌는 것이 없다고 생각하시나요

the sort of cultural, unwritten  laws of British culture?

Well, if you... if you think  London, Paris, New York, etc.,

글쎄요... 런던, 파리, 뉴욕 등을 생각한다면

people walk fast, speak fast, have  no time to say hello or goodbye,

사람들은 빨리 걷고, 빨리 말하고, 인사나 작별 인사,

thank you, etc., to an extent. - Yeah.

감사 인사 등을 할 시간이 없습니다. - 응.

So, it's... it's the price  of, in quotes, ''progress'',

or is the sweet taste or accurate  rather taste of capitalism.

But let's say that, you've called up a lift

But it's not generally, you're apologising,

or they're apologising, really? - No, in fact,

it comes out of you without you  realising that you've said it.

No, I'd just say that ultimately,  it's a reflex of politeness.

Aren't people in Britain insincere then,

if they're just constantly  walking around saying sorry?

That's a good question.

Maybe Brits are a little insincere, who knows?

I think it's just erm... yeah,

it's just a cultural, politeness thing.

We sometimes, can be overly polite.

Someone could bump into me and I would apologise.

I was gonna ask... - It's one  of those things, isn't it?

I run around, apologising for things all the time,

I wouldn't say shout, I wouldn't say you know,

But, without a doubt, they'd  say something passive like;

Yes. - And then, so then, what are your...

예. - 그럼, 그럼, 당신은... 바 같은

what is your thought on things  like the bar and specifically,

I'm always thinking of the London Underground.

The London Underground. Well  yeah, queuing's not really

even though there'll be one  in two minutes. - Exactly.

Yeah. - And so, on the sort of...

if there was like, a list of cultural rules,

Pretty high up, I mean it's the  first thing that came to mind.

So it's right up there for me. - Brilliant.
