I can't stand the bloke.

He's... he's is a crafty guy.

He's like a very sinister clown.

Put it this way, if I had a friend like that,

he wouldn't be a friend.

Get him out!

I could never vote conservative  while he was prime minister.

His hair's a mess, he doesn't even  look presentable and professional.

It's the end for Boris!

Hello, welcome to Easy English.

Boris Johnson is the leader  of the Conservative Party

and is also the current UK prime minister.

Recently, Boris Johnson has been  headline news all across the world,

so it makes sense to ask the British people;

what do they think about Boris Johnson?

Disclaimer.

These interviews are going to be  very representative of Brighton,

a Green (party) led council.

Although I expect most of the  answers to be very one sided,

I'd like to hear if there are any positives

to having Boris Johnson as the UK leader.

What is your general opinion on Boris?

Boris Johnson is a chancer,

who's only ever been interested  in his own personal advancement,

as evidenced by when he  had two versions of Brexit;

yes/no and he chose yes.

Solely because, he thought that would  enhance his own personal ambition.

I don't know much about politics, but... - Yeah.

I definitely don't like him.

My feelings on Boris is  that he's... he's a bad man.

Yeah? - This is... and I've always felt like that.

Oh really? - I don't really  trust politicians, full stop.

I think he doesn't do the country any good

in the way it's projected throughout the world.

I believe he's... like something out of this...

a politician out of the 18th century that er...

the elite matters, but nobody else.

And er... he's a bit of a  Billy Bunter type leader,

which, I don't think the rest  of the world takes seriously.

I've got them all now whenever a  conservative comes on, I think;

Oh my God, there we go again, another lie,

even if they're not telling me a  lie and that's because of BoJo.

'Cos he's constantly lied.

Get him out! - You're not a fan at all, then?

I didn't mind him in the  beginning, he was quite fun.

He was quite funny. - I was going to say,

there was an element of...  - Charisma around there.

And I thought, oh, he we go, something different.

In fact, I liked him as the mayor of London,

I didn't... I haven't always hated him.

But I really, really do not like him now,

and I want him to go because  I think he's very harmful.

Yes, he does a few good things,

but I'm sure many others would do the same.

Let's start just generally speaking,  what are your thoughts on Boris?

Well, before he became prime  minister, he was a unelected,

opportunistic, lying, philandering buffoon.

And then people voted for him  and he became an elected, lying,

opportunistic, philandering buffoon.

But, I don't like him.

He's spent the last five years or so,

flying by the seat of his pants,

using his charm to get out of every situation

that he creates for himself.

And it's not going to last,  he'll be gone by Friday.

And how about you? What  are your thoughts on Boris?

So, I don't really have any confidence in him

as a leader of our country.

I don't trust the man, I  don't trust a word, he says.

I look at someone like  Jacinda Ardern in New Zealand,

and I have the greatest respect  for her as a prime minister.

I think that the way she  handled lockdown in New Zealand,

the way she speaks, the way she presents herself

is just very professional.

Very, very... I would put  my faith and trust in her

and feel that she's doing the best for the nation.

Whereas, I feel that BoJo just does what suits him

and he doesn't seem to put a  lot of thought into his actions.

He just seems to change like the wind and...

is quite shambolic, really,  with his decisions and policies,

'Cos I know that... obviously  I'm interviewing in Brighton,

so I'm only, probably, gonna get one answer.

So I'd like to try and have some sort  of devil's advocate role in this.

And I just want to see if there  is any positivity that came out...

comes out of him being in charge.

Oh being in charge.

I mean, there are some  positive attributes to Boris

in that he can be very entertaining.

But then you don't want an  entertainer as your prime minister.

No. - Boris Johnson in charge is  only a one way street to doom,

despondency, despair and collapse.

OK.

Is there a positive? Like, let's  say; you may not agree with Brexit,

or we agree with it. But has he handled it well?

Has he delivered anything?

I think that he just blusted  his way through Brexit.

I don't think he had any direction.

His main purpose was to leave  the EU and think about it later.

That's my view. - Yeah.

Let's try and like, make a positive comment.

Is there anything that you'd say he's done.

Like, with the COVID pandemic.

Forgetting the parties and all this,

the way that he's sort of, helped  guide the UK through the pandemic.

Is that... would you say  he's done that quite well?

or is (there) anything he's managed quite well?

I don't think he's managed it well at all.

He's taken all the glory that  the health service have put in.

And the scientists. - And the scientists.

And it's as if, you know; ''oh, look  what I did, I saved the whole country''.

But, he's... he's lying again.

He's grabbing somebody else's credit again.

Is there a positive side to him at all?

Like maybe, has he handled  something well, do you think?

Even if you've not agreed with, say, Brexit.

I don't see anything positive in him,

but I can understand how he's...

He's quite manipulative, he's  good at manipulating people.

Yeah, is that a key... - But that... that...

I wouldn't say that is a  good character trait, myself.

Yeah, I don't think a  manipulative world leader is...

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, he's... he's a sociopath. - Right.

A very clever one.

But then, do you need to be a bit of  a sociopath to be a prime minister,

do you think?

Possibly, but I think you've got to...

you've got to have control over  that sort of thing. - Right.

I think erm... no, you can't  let... being a prime minister,

I think you can't be egocentric all the time.

I mean, surely the idea is that you er...

that you're there to serve the country.

Is there something which you  could say that he's done...

handled quite well? Or, is there certain things

that you think he's actually quite  good as a leader of a country?

Unfortunately, I didn't want Brexit.

So, you know, he probably delivered  Brexit, but I didn't want it anyway.

So... - But maybe, you think he did it quite well,

if you would have gone...

I don't actually because he ended  up lying about that as well.

You know, but at least he delivered  at it, but he lied about it.

He lied about what people could expect from it.

And people in business have  suffered an enormous amount from it.

Yeah. - I don't know of  anybody yet, who's benefited.

But you know, I'm willing to hear the  success stories because of Brexit.

That's nice. - He's delivered it, whether or not.

I don't think it's a plus.

OK, so let's think of a plus.

I like the idea of levelling up north/south.

I really like that idea, because  I'm not from the south, myself.

However, I love it down here and  I wouldn't go back up north again.

But it's a great idea to try  and level up those two areas,

but it's inevitable, as a result of that,

that people around here are going to think; whey!

Where's all our money going? You  know, why's it going all up north?

What are your sort of, opinions on, there's like,

word that, maybe his time is up?

Is this a... is this a positive thing right now?

Do we need to be leaderless?

Well, yeah... - We've been leaderless...  - For the last, how many...

Throughout COVID, I feel that  we've been completely leaderless.

We haven't had a leader, that's the trouble.

We had a blustering fool.

If he goes, if he stays, is there a positive?

Do we have something to look forward to?

That's the difficulty. - Who comes in?

Who!?

Who now?

I mean, I haven't got a clue.

I haven't got a clue, 'cos I  don't want any of his fogeys.

And then you think, what about  some of the previous lot,

the ones that stood against him? - Yeah.

The previous health secretary, but God,

what a mess he made of the  National Health Service.

So, you know, I haven't got a clue.

You need somebody else.

I don't know enough about Liz Truss,

erm... I don't know enough  about any of them, really.

Who knows, but maybe anyone is  better than him, would you say?

Or are we counting our chickens?

No, I do think there must be better than him.

There must be better than him,

because integrity and not  lying is extremely important.

Otherwise, you lose all respect for anything

that anybody expects you to do.

He's had his day with me, I have no  respect for him, at all, anymore.
